Jesus Calling: February 7

Come to Me for Rest and refreshment. The journey has been too much for you, and you are bone-weary. Do not be ashamed of your exhaustion. Instead, see it as an opportunity for Me to take charge of your life.

Remember that I can fit everything into a pattern for good, including the things you wish were different. Start with where you are at this point in time and space, accepting that this is where I intend you to be. You will get through today one step, one moment at a time. Your main responsibility is to remain attentive to Me, letting Me guide you through the many choices along your pathway.

This sounds like an easy assignment, but it is not. Your desire to live in My Presence goes against the grain of "the world, the flesh, and the devil." Much of your weariness results from your constant battle against these opponents. However, you are on the path of My choosing, so do not give up! Hope in Me, for you will again praise Me for the help of My Presence.

Romans 8:28

Amplified Bible (AMP)
We are assured and know that [God being a partner in their labor] all things work together and are [fitting into a plan] for good to and for those who love God and are called according to [His] design and purpose.

Psalm 42:11

New American Standard Bible (NASB)
Why are you in despair, O my soul?
And why have you become disturbed within me?
Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him,
The help of my countenance and my God.

My Prayer
I am tired. I don't feel right. I wake up in the morning, cloudy and just off. My head is spinning. I felt this way yesterday afternoon as well. Maybe it is still remnants of the illness. I'm not sure, but it doesn't feel right. Take charge Lord. Take charge of My life.

Lord, help me to be guided by You each step. I want to remain attentive to You. Guide me. Direct my paths and my time.

Forgive me for the way I choose things often that don't glorify You. I get impatient. I want rest and I want it in my way. I need Your strength.

I want to be bold. Help me look for ways to share You with others

Help me to Hope in God. And trust in His providence.

  3. Good sleep last night, quiet time this morning in His Word. Today will be better than yesterday (what a day) and I will better apply all He is teaching me. This weather has reflected my walk/thoughts of late. One day freezing, the next warm. Looking for that peaceful balance. The ability to 'just' walk with Him, knowing He has my back and freely giving without concern of receiving. When the pressure is on, GIVE. It takes the focus off of ME. Blessings and prayers to/for all of you, this day. "You will get through today one step, one moment at a time. Your main responsibility is to remain attentive to Me, letting Me guide you through the many choices along your pathway." My goal.

  5. Everytime I read the devotionals and more recently these prayers now that I discovered your blog, I feel like we're one the same page. I have ben feeling so drained lately. And reading these recent devitionals which have begun with something along the lines of "Come to me and I will give you rest" assures me that Jesus understands my human limitations and always provides for me whatever I need. Blessed day to you.

  8. Today's reading amplifies what I received in my devotional time. I share it with you for any way the Lord would like to use it in your life.

A devout believer in the late 1500's, Francis de Sales, had this experience. He was approached by an inquisitive person:

Person: Which would you prefer, to live in perfect health or to spend the rest of your life a paralytic on your bed? (and you would answer?)

de Sales: I would like neither the one nor the other. I am indifferent. In one thing or the other I wish only the good pleasure of God.

Person: But in health you could accomplish more good than if you were sick.

de Sales: I do not wish to choose the manner of serving my God; in health I shall serve Him by acting; in sickness I shall serve by suffering. It is for Him to choose what pleases Him best; either way I shall do His will and that is enough for me.

"...Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven..." The above story shows what that looks like.

Blessings on you, my brother/sister in Christ.

  11. The devotion today is a reminder to me that God sees and knows where we are in our journey on Earth, and He is continuing to stand with us and hold our hands. Thank you, God!

May I continue to be reminded to "Let go and let God" as far as every situation in my life's journey. As things get difficult, I sometimes find myself giving up instead of holding on. Jesus, I am gripping Your hand today instead of letting go. Thank you for your continued unconditional love and understanding. You have carried me through the darkest of times. May I continue to grow in faith and allow You to work even the seemingly terrible situations into an intricate design for good. You are the Most High, Jesus Christ! Thank you for caring so much about each one of us. Jesus, I trust in You.

May each one of us keep Jesus in the forefront of our minds and hearts today as we go through our daily lives making decisions along the way. If your day is packed with struggles, know Jesus is holding your hand; have faith He is weaving these struggles into a pattern for good. Prayers with and for ALL on here. CO

Also their other friend, Irene is getting a kidney transplant today. We pray for a miraculous healing for Helen and Janice, and that God guides Irene's doctor's hands perfectly and brings her back to perfect health. Thank you Father in the Name of Jesus for all these things.

  12. Today's JC reading reaffirmed the Lord's words to me in my time with Him this AM. The evil one tries to separate us from our Lord by questioning our love for Him by constantly pointing to the many ways we fall short. The reading I was given this morning came from Sirach 47:2-11 (my Protestant brothers/sisters are going to have to seek out as I did the Apocrypha to find that book. Don't worry, it is ok, Jesus was fully aware of and most likely read these books in His lifetime.) It is a summary of David in his life. It is a good summary because even though his spiritual resume certainly had some severe blotches on it, yet, as stated in vs. 8, "In all that he did he gave thanks to the Holy One, the Most High, proclaiming His glory; he sang praise with all his heart, and he loved his Maker." The passage concludes in vs 11, "The Lord took away his sins, and exalted his power forever; He gave him a covenant of kingship and a glorious throne in Israel. The world around us (and even the church sometimes) demands perfection and has little toleration for anything less; our Lord and our God shows mercy and lifts us up to try again. The story of David is a great example. He loved his Lord in his imperfect state and God's love for him remained constant. Brothers/sisters in Christ, let us flush all evil notions from our head and our heart with the truth of God's Word. Keep flushing as often as you need to. God be with you. With love, Bob

    4. Bob, this reminded me today of my vulnerability that opens door for the evil one:
"The evil one tries to separate us from our Lord by questioning our love for Him by constantly pointing to the many ways we fall short. "
Help me Jesus, slamming that door! I love you Jesus, I trust you Jesus, I thank you Jesus!

    5. David was a loyal follower of the Lord and adored Him above all. Yet he was driven by his human passions and was not always a good example to His people. But God was faithful to Him and brought him up out of many bad situations. Although he took his son from him because of his sin with Bethsheba. We learn that God is always giving us a second chance to make things right.
Amen Bob, Let us all flush out any evil thoughts, words and deeds and stay in His presence and peace. Our greatest goal is to please Him and lead others to Him.
Amen sweet Audra! I sure do trust you Jesus.

  13. A rainy morning here on the East coast, but I am thankful to You oh Lord for the rain and for yet another day to breathe and move. In all things I give You thanks.
Yesterday’s devotion reminded us to: “Come to Me and Rest”, today’s devotion is: “Come to Me for Rest and refreshment”.
I mentioned in yesterday’s devotion that it was perfect for me because of few challenges, concerns etc.. that seemed to loomed around me, but the beauty and gift of serving and trusting You Lord is unmatchable! I poured my heart out to You, but You already knew. Today, I am in a much better frame of mind then I was yesterday and it has NOTHING to do with any power or strength of mine, but ALL Yours! You know everything about me, whether I fall short of Your glory or not, You remain faithful. I thank You gracious Lord.
Whether the looming/concerns still hang around me or not, I know You Lord are with me and my family always. You have again reminded me to come to You, this time with “Refreshment”. Help me to stay in Your word and claim all Your promises for my life. Thank You!

When God says: “Come to Me for Rest and refreshment”, we should understand that God’s rest for us is spiritual. This rest God is talking about is not the rest from our daily work or physically exhausted when we have worked hard. It is a profound peace that He gives to those who love and obey Him regardless of circumstances. This rest is deep, It is peaceful existence that enhances and enriches our lives here on earth, and when over on earth, it continues in the hereafter. This is God’s promise to us! It permits us to be in a state of rest at all times, be it trials or joyful times because we are trusting in Him. We should seek this ‘rest and refreshment’ because the word of God is true, real and powerful as the scriptures describes it in Hebrews 4:12- “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart”. God’s word is not pretentious, it stands forever!
As we ponder on today’s devotion, let’s be encouraged to pursue God, truth and His word because this is the greatest reality in life. Let us not allow the struggles of life to deprive us of the rich knowledge of God. He understands our struggles, it doesn't matter what they are (this is why my today is better than yesterday. I found His rest in my spirit through His word). God doesn’t want us to allow the struggles of life to rob us of a greater glory of living with Him someday. When hopelessness and feelings of heaviness takes root, it’s easy to lose your balance, but when you hold on to the word of God, you win that battle and all others. He will never forsake the believer who puts his or her trust in the Him. This God that we serve, understands our struggles. He encourages us to come to Him in times of confusion and complexities of life. His compassion and grace will enable us to rise above the circumstances of life.

I encourage all of us to go to Him for this rest and refreshment. If you are feeling weary like I did yesterday, find time to rest, eat well and get alone with God in prayer and read His word. Ignoring, or denying the feelings of weariness and plowing forward can be disastrous. We must determine to never quit on God, because He will never quit on us. Don’t give up!

Remain Blessed and in His rest!

  15. I missed Bob's comments when he posted in 2019. I like the exchange. Of course, in our humanness we would choose health, but the choice is not ours. 16. I am heartbroken..I just sent this to my grandson and his wife .."It saddens my heart that marcelino has chosen the road of drug abuse. In my heart, I knew, with all the weight loss. And that's how it starts, one thinking that it can be controlled. You are not fooling your wife, your girls, your boss. They notice the changes in you and your personality. My heart goes out to you, Gabby, and your little girls. It is a life of tremendous sadness, loneliness, and hopelessness to everyone. Be strong Gabby for your girls; seek Jesus with all your heart; he is with you always. Do not let the evil one deceive you. He will want you to make wrong choices. As for you my dear grandson prepare yourself to lose everything: your family, your job, your self respect, your freedom, and God forbid, your life. We love you very much and are praying for all of you and we are here for you. My prayer, that the both of you seek Jesus with all your heart; he will never leave you or forsake you." Today's reading is for me; I am so grief stricken but I will not give up; I trust my Lord and Savior. I will carry this heavy cross and only by the grace of God. I also trust that my JC warriors will pray for my family and I thank you.

Appreciate every prayer tremendously and appreciate the time you took to post your thoughts prayers. I feel so very blessed to be part of this most-awesome group. Thank you, God, for directing me here last January when I couldn't get my kindle app that had my JC book on it to open. Wasn't letting the devil win that one and look what God did?! He brought me here!!!
Again, many, many thanks for your prayers now and in the days ahead.

We have decided that since Jess wasn't affiliated with any church in Spokane, we are going to take her ashes to a lake in Orr, MN called Pelican Lake. My parents used to take us there as kids and then we, as adults, began taking our families there as a kind of family reunion each year...to fish (catch & release) and fellowship. Jess had loved it so much telling her mom she was getting the latitude and longitude coordinates tattooed on the back of her neck. The specifics are on one particular dock that she would like to cast off of or just sit on. So, I think, God willing, we, 21 of us, will be making the trek to Pelican Lake the week of 7/17-7/24 since 7/24 is Jess's birthday. Her mom and sister, Julie will then scatter Jess's ashes on that dock. So beautiful, really, if this can all come together.

*On a sad note, in talking to Sue last night, she found out that she and Jess's dad, Dennis aren't going to be allowed to see Jess's body before cremation due to this blessed covid. My sister said she just wanted to kiss Jess's forehead one last time. Such heartbreak and loss.

So sorry your sister and Dennis won't be allowed to kiss Jess goodbye. That does sound like a beautiful last gift to her to spread her ashes on her Birthday in her favorite place. God comfort you all.

  24. Psalm 23:

THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD: “David thought about God, the God of Israel; as he thought about his relationship with God, he made the analogy of a shepherd and his sheep. God was like a shepherd to David, and David was like a sheep to God.” Like David, thank You Lord for being my real personal Shepherd.

I SHALL NOT WANT: For David, the fact of God’s shepherd-like care was the end of dissatisfied need.” Like David, I declare that ALL of my needs are supplied by You Lord, my Shepherd, and I desire not to want more than what You give me.

HE MAKES ME TO LIE DOWN IN GREEN PASTURES; HE LEADS ME BESIDE THE STILL WATERS: “The LORD as a shepherd knew how to make David rest when he needed it, just as a literal shepherd would care for his sheep.” Like David, I thank You Lord for sustaining me. I don’t always know what I need, but You do. Thank You for guiding me to green pastures. You know when Your sheep needs still waters. Thank You Father for this rich sense of comfort, care and rest.

HE RESTORES MY SOUL; HE LEADS ME IN THE PATHS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS FOR HIS NAME’S SAKE: David’s soul was restored by the figurative green pastures and still waters the shepherd brought him to.” The Shepherd guided David to what he needed, comfort and restored him into righteousness. Lord, as You did it for David Lord, I thank You for leading, restoring and guiding me into righteousness.

“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever.”

Lord, as You walked with David through the darkest valley, and was with him, comforting him with Your rod and staff from all danger and invited him to a rich table prepared for him in the presence of his enemies, I just know that You are doing the same for me and I say THANK YOU! Thank You for anointing my head with oil that it runs over, and assuring me of Your goodness and mercy all the days of my life, with a promise to dwell in Your house FOREVER! Thank You for a new day to enjoy and remember WHOSE I am. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

    Blessings and Peace.

  27. Hi everyone, I’ve been reading these daily to get me through a series of rough times post partum. Most recently I’ve been dealing with 24/7 derealization/depersonalization. Which if you don’t know or have experienced is an awful dissociative feeling that makes you feel like your world isn’t real and numb. It’s like I can’t reach my son and husband and sometimes they even look like strangers to me. I’m clinging to the word of God and especially today’s post. If I could ask for prayers from this group, I would be so grateful. I pray that god pulls me out of this soon and I’m not like this for a long period of time. I’m so desperate and am thankful for any support or words.

And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another helper, that He may abide with you forever. (John 14:16). And the LORD God said, "it is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him." (Genesis 2:18). But whoever has this world's goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? (1 John 3:17). For where two or three are gathered together in my name, I am there in the midst of them. (Matthew 18:20).

JC Warriors, a friend of mine from church has a cousin named Joseph that was in a tragect accident a few days ago. He is a truck driver and was working and had stopped off at a rest stop one night and got out of the truck to stretch his legs and was hit by a vehicle. He was unresponsive and has a broken neck, leg and hip issues and some other things wrong. It wasn't looking good at all on Sunday morning when she told us. By Sunday night at church, she had spoken with him because he woke up and even though he is in a lot of pain and has quite a bit of things going on physically with him, he told her that he knew that the Lord was using his suffering to hopefully and prayerfully bring his daughters to the Lord. He said that the glory of the Lord will shine through his tragedy because he trusts in Him and believes it in his heart. He was actually glad that the Lord was using him to do this and it kinda made my friend stop and think for a moment. How amazing is that? I told her that I thought that was wonderful and a pleasant reminder that the Lord uses us in different situations for different things all the time. We just have to be willing to see them and to be used by Him. Thank You Jesus for healing Joseph and for drawing his daughters to You. Praise the Lord always and bless Your holy name πŸ™ πŸ™Œ.

JUST FOR TODAY, I will gather the courage to do what is right in God's eyes and take the responsibility only for my own actions, freeing others up to have their own relationship with God as they understand God, by whatever name they call the Higher Power in which they believe.

When you said” freeing others up to have their own relationship with God as they understand God, by whatever name they call the Higher Power in which they believe. “ Could that mean it’s alright if we call our higher power Buddha or something other than the Father God of Jesus? Do you see why I’m confused?

  52. Sarah through her creative vision of scripture in Jesus Calling says: "Start with where you are at this point in time and space, accepting that this is where I intend you to be." I have a firm belief in God giving us "free will", yet at the same time, believe that God sees our heart, and more firmly grips our Hand so that we grow through the challenge ahead.

It certainly is how I have come to see my journey after 6+ decades, and in doing so, frees me to enjoy a much more stress-free path in the past few years of personal spiritual growth. It is NOT how I would have viewed truly tough challenges in the past. Agape and Godspeed. Amen.

  53. Amen and thank you, dear MadFox! God sees our hearts and understands every word written on them. He loves us so much that He guides us along our journeys and leads us through the valleys and the wilderness. Today will be a good day because we’re already seeking the Lord and trying to follow after Righteousness and the Spirit. He may allow us to go through some storms but rest assured He will take our hands and carry us through them. My mom and I talked a lot about Jesus yesterday. I told her I can’t do anything without Him and He knows it because when I’m faced with anything difficult, I call His Name and He is right there, ready to help, strengthen and guide me. I told my mom how important it is to say thank you to Him for our blessings and to each other for their acts of kindness and hard work. It blesses God to see our gratitude at work in our hearts. I’m grateful to belong to Him, and to feel His Peace and Love, and to receive His Grace, His undeserved Favor. He is everything to me and His joy sustains me. I rest in His presence because I know He’s my ever present Help. He is what completes me. My greatest and most beautiful part is the Christ in me, the Hope of Glory, His Unfading Light. What a blessing that we can feel His love and know in our hearts that He is always with us. Hallelujah!

    Isaiah 40:29
He gives power to the weak,
And to those who have no might He increases strength.

    Deuteronomy 31:8
And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.

  59. Thank you for your prayers today. My stomach healed; I got more rest and was able to eat some good food. We went to our little GS's basketball game and my Best Man took a spill trying to get in the car. Fell on his face, again. There were people there to help me get him up. His head was bleeding; he had a huge bump and his elbow and side/back hurt. I had already eaten and he wasn't hungry before the game, but he wanted me to drive through KFC for a chicken pot pie. I asked if he still wanted it and he did so we ran through there. Our son, next door, met us in the driveway and he helped me get him in. We got him settled, his head cleaned up; his knee cleaned up and I warmed up his food. Then we called our good Dr. who said that we didn't need to worry about the carotid surgery being effected and as long as I wake him up every two hours and he responds, I can take him into the office tomorrow and he'll decided whether or not x-rays are needed.
Of course, we had prayed immediately. Our little GS texted us to say that he, his brother and Daddy were praying right then. The youngest cried (our son told us later when he came over); he is our little tender-heart. But - 3 hours later, DH is doing well. He's sleeping in his recliner and I'm sleeping on the couch by him and have my alarm set for ever 2 hours. Thank You, Father for protecting my one, true love - again. Thank you, JC Family for your prayers. I'll put this up for tomorrow, too so that anyone who misses this post is sure to see the one in the morning. Love and God's Best to all of you. Tonight's events seem like the 'Rest of the Story,' to this mornings devotion.

    3. Heading to the sofa now. He's tucked into his recliner. My alarm goes off at 2:00 a.m. EST - not quite 2 hours. But, I'll be right there with him. <3

  60. I’m thankful you’re feeling better, dear Norah. Praying with my sisters and my brothers that with our Great Physician’s help your Best Man will recover quickly and completely without any lasting problems. God is faithful so we rest in Him.
Thanks for praying that my dear sister Janet receives God’s healing of her knees and traveling mercies on the 12th and God heals Norah’s DH and gets rid of my cough and Rick’s cough and heals all of you and your dear ones. Waiting on the Lord and Trusting in His promises. Thank You Father for this in the Name of Christ Jesus. Amen
