Jesus Calling: February 1

Follow Me one step at a time. That is all I require of you. In fact, that is the only way to move through this space/time world. You see huge mountains looming, and you start wondering how you're going to scale those heights. Meanwhile, because you're not looking where you're going, you stumble on the easy path where I am leading you now. As I help you get back on your feet, you tell Me how worried you are about the cliffs up ahead. But you don't know what will happen today, much less tomorrow. Our path may take an abrupt turn, leading you away from those mountains. There may be an easier way up the mountains than is visible from this distance. If I do lead you up the cliffs, I will equip you thoroughly for that strenuous climb. I will even give My angels charge over you, to preserve you in all your ways.
Keep your mind on the present journey, enjoying My Presence. Walk by faith, not by sight, trusting Me to open up the way before you.
Psalm 18:29
English Standard Version
For by you I can run against a troop,
and by my God I can leap over a wall.

Psalm 91:11-12
Amplified Version
For he will give His angels (especial) charge over you
to accompany and defend and preserve you in all your ways [of obedience and service].
They shall bear you up on their hands,
lest you dash your foot against a stone.

2 Corinthians 5:7
New King James Version
for we walk by faith, not by sight.

My Prayer
Lord, don't let me be far from you, but help me to concentrate and focus on You each step. Keep me under Your control. Lord, I want to be ready for what is before me and that means that instead of focusing on what is ahead, I focus on You. I keep my focus on the High Road and let you define my walk. Don't let me get bogged down in what I see, but rather focus on Faith and living and walking by faith, not by sight. Lord, I admit that is really hard. Sometimes I think it would be easier if I was blind, literally, because then I would be forced to be led. Yet, my guess is, I would still think I am in control. Yet this is the picture I want in my life, to be blind and led by You.

Don't let me get ahead of myself. I do need to think about the big picture in decisions and even child rearing, but help me to not be stressed by future events that are completely uncertain. I can trust You for those outcomes. I can trust You; no, really, I can do it. Don't let me get sidetracked from today that I miss opportunities you have given me to talk to people about You and remind them that You are all we need.

  1. Friday Feb.1 JC devo is probably one of the best written of the book - as it succinctly sums up our plight here on Earth every day. We see obstacles ahead and so we fear them... not TRUSTING Him to lead us around the problems or if we cannot turn from the tougher path, He will equip us to handle it. May I live as today's devotional suggests:
ONE STEP at a time by FAITH not sight! Amen.

    2. I am in agreement with you all, this is a very powerful devotion. What strikes me with it is I am put in my place, "You don't know what will happen today much less tomorrow." My only recourse is Mary's response to the angel (Luke 1:38), "I am a servant of the Lord. Let it be to me as you have said." And God was given the go ahead to use her to bring salvation to the world. May I do no less.

    3. A wonderful devotion and encouragement for our uncertain time right now. We have no idea how long this will go on, and now there are new strains spreading rapidly. We are not even sure how well the present vaccines will work against the new strains. But we do know that God is very well in this picture and as MadFox said: "He will equip us to handle it". I'm with you on taking it one step at a time by faith. Trusting in the Lord above all and I am not afraid. We must keep our focus on Him and boldly go forward, making the right decisions as His spirit leads us.

  2. This reminds me of a teaching I heard years ago re: God's Word being a lamp unto my feet. The woman teaching said she asked God, "Why don't you show me the whole path ahead of time, God?" He said, "Because it would stop you from walking - you wouldn't go!" So many comments and prayer requests from yesterday are on my heart. What a blessing this blog is. Please know that all of you are in my prayers. Bob, I'm believing for supernatural peace and success with your procedure. For healed hearts, answers and renewed strength. And, that today, I trust God to guide me - all of us - and keep us out of harm's way. God Bless!

I pray that all who struggle with each step, believe and know that their path, their story is written specifically for each one of us. AND most importantly we are accompanied by Jesus each and every step. May faith, trust, and confidence bless each and everyone of of us. Amen.

And yes, praying for Bob and the woman yesterday that is hurting so badly with the tragic loss of her son. Peace.

  3. After sharing a life struggle with a friend she said God only gives us the grace for one day. The same as he gave his people the manna for just one day, the day ahead of them. Not to be stored for tomorrow and as he promised, there would be another supply tomorrow.

This brought some comfort to me and helped me to trust that God will and does provide for our daily needs. At the end of each day, I can see that. It's the beginning of the day that my anxiety and fear looms. As was said in the comments above, one step at a time by faith not by sight.

God bless us all as we traverse the day ahead.

    1. Wonderful Julieanne! It is so true about the "daily manna" . In our humanness we seek to store for the future, to protect ourselves from future struggles and hardships. In the great Lords Prayer we ask....give us our DAILY bread.... not give us bread for the next 2 weeks. God provides daily bread. That is all we need. Our faith tells us that. If we don't believe that, then that is when our anxiety goes up. Thank you Jesus! Amen.

  4. I am expecting a baby in 9 weeks and we’ve had a few ups and downs and uncertainties in baby’s health including worst case scenario doctors who suggested termination without even having a diagnosis....and so far, God has proved them wrong that the medical stats they live and breathe by have no bearing on His will and design for this baby who does not seem to have the chromosomal abnormalities that they were so sure of. I feel God walking by my side through all of this, but have another ultrasound coming up in a few weeks, which right now is my “mountain” up ahead that I’m continually worrying about. Today’s devotion is exactly what I needed to keep my eyes on Him because he knew this surprise baby long before I ever did and will not fail us in bringing us through these next few weeks as we are God-willing blessed with another baby and follower for Christ.

  5. Dear Lord, I thank You for this new month I have started today.
Thank You Lord for the gift of life.
Thank You for ALL of my accomplishments and challenges over the last month.
Thank You Lord for the wisdom You gave me to overcome all the challenges.
Thank You for Your unconditional Love and abundant blessings.
Thank You for Your daily positive intervention in every area of my life.
Thank You for walking with me through this journey of life .
Thank You for family who nurture my becoming and for friends who love me by choice.
Thank You for one more day to love and one more to experience Your presence.

I pray Your favor over my life and that of my family and friends. I surrender all of my plans for this month into Your capable hand and say THANK YOU.

Following God is stepping out of our comfort zone and into His.Abram trusted God in the not knowing because He believed that God was with Him. It was called walking by faith, not by sight!
I believe when God urges us to follow Him one step at a time, He is telling us that each step of this step-by-step approach is made under the daylight of the present moment with Him.He promises us in Proverbs 4:12, that, "As you go, step by step I will open up the way before you".
When our steps are too heavy to take, God promises to thoroughly equip us by giving His angels charge over us, to preserve us in all our ways.(psalm 91:11).
Let's walk fear out of our lives, trust and follow God one step at a time.

Happy, blessed and fruitful New month (February)!

I have regained perspective this morning. I know from experience that I cannot keep up the pace of the last couple of weeks and as I looked forward I felt discouraged knowing that I cannot continue like this.

I remember His words to me a few weeks ago, "just hold my hand". But the last few days I have been looking at my internal gas gage as the warning light began to blink, "empty".

He will show the way and make the way and even if I stumble, I will remember He has my hand.

I also am asking for much needed prayers for my dear friend Margi, and her 20yr.old niece, Jenna. Margi has been in the hospital for over 3 weeks now, 1st for Covid, and also for a severe UTI, and now other concerns that they've since found. Her spirit is hanging in there one day at a time. As for her much loved niece, she has been diagnosed with colon cancer, and had surgery yesterday. As Can be expected, she has struggles with it as to why? and is in an angry stage with God. Margi was able to have a heart to heart talk with her which included her own question for Jenna from her own struggles: "Why allow spina bifida in a baby?" I thank all of you dear warriors in advance, and also lift Ellen's daughter up in prayer on her continued treatments.πŸ’ž

My child, I have a message for you today. Let me whisper it in your ear so any storm clouds that may arise will shine with glory, and the rough places you may have to walk will be made smooth. It is only four words, but let them sink into your inner being, and use them as a pillow to rest your weary head. “This is my doing.”

Have you ever realized that whatever concerns you concerns Me too? “For whoever touches you touches the apple of [my] eye” (Zech. 2:8). “You are precious and honored in my sight” (Isa. 43:4).

  50. Today's reading brings thoughts of 'Hinds Feet In High Places' Hannah Hurnard; and of Donkey saying "Are we nearly there yet?"
We're not there yet but it's not far and won't be long, although it's true to say Heaven is in our heart
    ( https://youtu.be/hm_rMTMQkj0?si=-9jdPyh_WAA7ngPi ).
But while we're still here there's some way to go yet:
    Higher Ground
1 I’m pressing on the upward way,
New heights I’m gaining ev'ry day:
Still praying as I’m onward bound,
"Lord, plant my feet on higher ground."

Refrain: Lord, lift me up, and let me stand
    By faith, on heaven’s tableland;
A higher plane than I have found,
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.

2 My heart has no desire to stay
    Where doubts arise and fears dismay;
Though some may dwell where these abound,
My prayer, my aim, is higher ground.

    [Refrain]

3 I want to live above the world,
    Though Satan’s darts at me are hurled;
For faith has caught a joyful sound,
The song of saints on higher ground.

    [Refrain]

4 I want to scale the utmost height,
    And catch a gleam of glory bright;
But still I’ll pray till heav’n I’ve found,
“Lord, lead me on to higher ground.”
    [Refrain]

  52. Good morning, Jesus Calling Family.
It has been a while since I commented even though I still read YOUR comments. As we enter the second month in this new year of 2024, I can only agree with the comments above, "for we walk by Faith and not by sight." 2 Cor 5:7. I entered in one of the scariest seasons of my life in June of 2023, with no knowledge of how I could possibly accomplish the assignment the Lord gave me. I am here to testify via praise report that GOD showed up and opened doors I could never imagine I could walk through, and connected me with people I could never imagine speaking to, and for the first time in my life, I completed my assignment and didn't quit when it got hard, and God rewarded my faith, as I walked in the direction he led me to go. I can truly say to those who try to convince me to doubt him, you can't make me doubt HIM because I know too much about HIM. Be encouraged today my sisters and brothers, whatever your mountain is, NOTHING IS BIGGER THAN OUR GOD, IF WE ARE WILLING TO BELIEVE IN FAITH, HE GOT US.
Have a beautiful blessed beyond measure Thursday,
    In His Love,
    God's Daughter.
