Jesus Calling: February 11

My Peace is like a shaft of golden Light shining on you continuously. During days of bright sunshine, it may blend in with your surroundings. On darker days, My Peace stands out in sharp contrast to your circumstances. See times of darkness as opportunities for My light to shine in transcendent splendor. I am training you to practice Peace that overpowers darkness. Collaborate with Me in this training. Do not grow weary and lose heart.

In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
(John 1:4-5 ESV)

Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.
(Hebrews 12:3 ESV)

My Prayer
Lord, I want to daily consider You in all my circumstances. And I want to remember You and remember what You did for me in dying for Me. I don't want a moment to go by that I don't think of this. Let this transform my thinking. Renew my mind daily Lord.

Help me in my circumstances. I pray that I would walk in Your Peace. Whatever the circumstances I can trust You to help and to guide me. Help our family to be marked by Peace.

Train up my children and my wife in godly behavior and I pray that they would look to You each day. Help them to be bold in their spheres of influence and to readily speak of You. May it be the same in my life.

Help my children to have strong relationships, to have good friends. Bring people into their lives that will challenge them spiritually. I pray the same for my wife. I pray that You would enlarge her friendships and bring people into her life that will encourage her in her faith.

Help me as a father to be encouraging to my children. Help me to be vocal in the right ways and to model good behavior. Help me to not be so tough with them. I need Your help God. I am weak and make bad decisions each day. I want to honor You and have that Peace throughout circumstances of my families life.

Lord, we are wanting to place our dependence on You for all things. Our finances are in your control.

I pray for the church and that we as a people and as Your body would reflect You daily. I pray that our leaders would think about the Body that we have at our church and the type of people that are there, their lifestyles and how we as a congregation can best encourage people. Lord, there are a lot of great things we can do as a Body, but what are you leading our church to be? Show us Lord. Inspire us and then help our leaders to be obedient. I pray that You would send out workers to Your harvest. Send me Lord. Send me. Help me to be bold. Help me to stand out. Help me to give people an apt word. Lord, don't let me be comfortable in my life. I want to shine your truth.

How would I speak to someone in an elevator? How would I speak to someone walking on the street? I pass people all the time. I am near these people at work, but I don't mention You. Why? Because I fear rejection and I'm concerned I will look crazy. Why do I fear what people think of me? These people are potentially lost and rather than bringing you up, I stay comfortable. Make me bold Lord in every place, in every part of my life.

  3. Testimony: I am going through a difficult and dark season in my life. Yesterday I got in a dispute with my wife which resulted in my leaving the house for a while despite it being almost time for evening church. On top of this, work seemed to be short staffed and there existed a chance I'd have to go in on my day off and miss church.

While I was out of the house I received a call from work indicating a member had not shown up. At this point I knew I'd have to go in so I angrily stopped home, quickly dressed into uniform, and headed that way.

On the drive there I began to complain to God and then felt it was so futile to do so when He is the very God Who allowed these circumstances to transpire. I was very angry, bitter, and resentful.

When I arrived to work, that member who was earlier MIA was there and no one had informed me. I quickly barked out some commands for the shift, left, reconciled with my wife, and made it tp church on time.

In hindsight I knew that God knew and had granted my desire to be in His presence, and I apologized to Him also.

    God cares about us.

  8. Once again, this devotional hits home- literally. I am on vacation in Delray Beach, FL and went to see the sunrise on this last day before we head back to Houston this evening. As the sun rose, shafts of golden light showed through the clouds. In all His splendor, He painted a picture with magnificent colors and shapes like no other can. Indeed He was there.
Today I pray for peace for you all. I thank Him for his guidance so that we can practice peace that overpowers darkness.

  11. "I am training you to practice peace that overpowers darkness." He is training us and the training is ongoing. In the same way physical training occurs over a period of time, so, too, does spiritual training which is of far greater importance. As we engage in the fellowship we are blessed with in this blog, as we encourage one another, as we pray for each other according to scripture and the reading that amplifies the same, the training is taking place, He is making us better for His glory. Let us not resist the training, especially if it gets more demanding, for in it God so loves the world. With love, Bob

  13. On this cool rainy day here in the North east, I count my many blessings knowing that I am alive and in my sound mind to even experience the rainfall. To that and many, many more reasons, Father I am grateful and thankful to be in Your Presence today.

The Peace of God that surpasses all our understanding is what the Father wants for each of His children. His perfect Peace, not ours and not the world’s. This Peace our father wants us to have is the calmness and harmony of our mind, body and spirit that replaces all earthly circumstances. When we are seeking Him, our days become peace and joy filled no matter what circumstances we find ourselves in. This Peace takes over the darkness and allow us to see His light! When we submit and trust the commandments of God and Christ Jesus, we enter into a tranquil state of appreciation and faith, knowing that we have His peace. Prov. 3:5 tells us to: “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding”. To appreciate God, is to live in His peace because He is inherently peaceful. The closer we are to the Father, the more of His peace we experience.

Father, help us through the power of Your Holy Spirit to continue to grow in knowledge of the wisdom and prosperity of Your love for us so that our minds and spirit can develop a restful faith of Your grace and power. We trust that You will make all things work together for our good so that Your purpose for our lives be achieved. Psalm 33:11 “But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations”.

As believers we are full of the Spirit of the living God, who makes us more than conquerors, therefore, we should plan ahead to stay peaceful during our trials.
God’s Peace is for us, take hold of it!

Stay in His Peace and remain blessed.

Medication and injections from Ortho Dr. weren't helping. I had MRI, surgery was scheduled. During church one Sunday morning, Pastor commented, many of us don't go to the Great Physician for healing, and announced plans for anointing service. I was anointed! Disappointed I wasn't healed instantly. PTL! I was healed 3 months later. This happened 20 years ago. I continue to seek wisdom and pray "not my will but Thine be done". Thanks JC Family for continued prayers.

  19. JC Prayer Warriors. I continue to have minimal issues and feel the power is real with so many praying for me and sharing kind words of love. As Norah knows from experience with her husband, strong drugs also take a toll on many "good" aspects of your body. A minor infection had to be treated with a "horse pill" size antibiotic, IV lines can have issues, some predictable side effects have finally showed up as I come to.....DRUM ROLL... the last day of IV chemo!! It is today Thursday Feb 11th, 2021. 4 cycles of 4 weeks! Hard to believe, will be finished with "induction" with a few more days of oral chemo and steroids next Tuesday.

I baked a bunch of blueberry muffins and assorted others for the medical team to celebrate the milestone. As I will now stop all chemo in the 30 day run-up to the stem cell transplant. Therefore tomorrow is my last day to see the infusion nurses until a few months after the transplant.

Thank you so much for the kind words and the humbling prayers for this fellow traveler. The real test will be all the tests in early March and so please do pray that those all turn out to be as good as the blood if not better!!
In agape, with true appreciation. Your brother in Christ.

p.s. Brie if my comments, saying private messaging in a blog/forum was helpful, etc. please know it's just an opinion, but perhaps poorly expressed. My apologies if that was the case.

  20. 2 years and a MM diagnosis later, I build on this comment by specifically praying that a "shaft of golden light" envelope and beam peace into each member of my family. For the greatest challenge emotionally for me is the fear and lack of peace that my illness has thrust upon each of them, but mostly, of course, my wife. She is incredibly strong but we all need His peace. Praying that we get as close to that peace as humanly possible.

Father, also place the Son-beam of peace on all needing your grace today. And if possible change the course of our nation, eliminate the political bloodsport of this time in history. Be with all those mentioned here today in need of your love and peace. In Your name, Amen.

  23. Good Morning, my incredible JC Warriors & Family. Wanted to share what happened yesterday regarding my sister, Sue and her ex, Dennis saying goodbye to their/our sweet Jess. Jessie's body was brought to a local funeral home in Spokane (*Mindy-I thank you for your offer to help. I shared your note and the other's prayers with my sister. So touched by your willingness to help. Fortunately, they were able to get all Jess's things donated to a local mission and food pantry.) So, the funeral director at the FH let Sue and Dennis know that Jess's body could be viewed by them if they wanted to. Sue needed to have that time with Jess. Here is what she said of their time together:
"We just visited with Jess and had a good chat. We let her know she is now in charge of looking out for all of us. We shared your messages of love. She looked like she did when she'd fall asleep on my couch. We told her she will always be with each of us. I'm so glad we were able to be with her to say goodbye."
The following is a sure sign from God and Jess. Upon leaving the funeral home, Sue and Dennis were behind a SUV with the license plate of "JESS". No joke. I wish I could share the picture. Absolutely incredible and SO GOD!!! It gave them and us such peace....that golden chord, if you will!
As I told you all before, we will all (21 of us) be making the journey to Pelican Lake at the end of July, Jess's favorite place, and spreading her ashes on her 7/24 birthday, God willing.

I shared your wonderful, heartfelt prayers with my sister and my family. Reading them not only brought me tremendous comfort but Sue and the family felt it too. You are all such an unexpected blessing that happened to me last January. Grateful and humbled. Love and peace to you all.

  25. Amen, Madfox praying that all around you see the Spirit of the living God shinning from you. That they as well as you find confident comfort in Romans 8:28.
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
You my brother in Christ have been called for his purpose. You are walking out his purpose each day. As hard as it is part of this purpose is the sickness in your body and all that comes with it. You are walking a rocky road that is treacherous at times, but never forgot the same power that raised Christ from the grave is alive in you! You are a living testimony of His faithfulness! You are not alone for He is closer than a friend! Greater is he who is in you than who is in the world!
These are all truths that we must stand on. Trusting because we have the greatest reassurance that He holds us in his hands.

  26. MadFox. I read your post about an hour ago and got waylaid responding. In the meantime, others have said many of the things I was going to say, which is great. I just want to add a couple things. I am now really intrigued by the"shaft of golden light" around believers. I think many you have met during this journey have somehow seen it, which has enabled you to be such a great witness to God's love. Also, when I read your post about concern for your family and that your journey has been thrust upon them, it took me back to last summer when I was in my brother's hospital room with his son and we were discussing bringing him home for hospice. This meant we had to figure out how to care for him while both still having full time jobs. My brother looked at us and said he couldn't ask us to do that. He felt that guilt and concern. But without a missing a beat, both my nephew and I said "you're not asking us. We're just doing it. You are not going to be alone." I'm sure your family is having the same reaction. It just that you are the one who is used to being the provider and the strong one. God bless.

  27. MadFox, catching up, I assume your diagnosis is multiple myeloma? My mom has this and went through a transplant last summer. She is now in remission! I want to share a prayer I shared with her for the stem cells.
We come before you today, humbled by your great gift of life.  In your infinite love, you planted within us these tiny cells that have the power to heal and renew.  For giving scientists, physicians, and nurses the knowledge to use these cells for our well-being, we give you thanks.  For having brought us to this special day, we give you thanks.

Today, we ask a special blessing on madfox as he receives these life-giving cells.  Let him trust not only in their power to heal, but in Your invitation to new life and new birth.  Grant him patience and hope as he waits for the restoration of body, mind, and spirit.

And now, send your spirit upon these cells, blessing them with your love and healing power.

    Amen

    [Verse 1]
Create in me a heart that's clean
And for the thoughts inside, oh God, please forgive me
Search me and make me new
I don't want a thing separating me and You

    [Chorus]
I want more of You and less of me
More of You and less of me
Jesus, I just wanna be like You
I wanna be like You, yeah

    [Verse 2]
Set me on the righteous path
And if I get lost, loving mercy lead me back (Oh)
All my life set on this truth
You say blessed are the pure at heart, for they will see You

    [Chorus]
And I want more of You and less of me
More of You and less of me
Jesus, I just wanna be like You (Woah)
I want more of You and less of me
More of You and less of me
Jesus, I just wanna be like You
I wanna be like You, God

    [Interlude]
Oh, that's the cry of our heart
    Yes, that's our one desire
We wanna be like You, God
    Hey
    Oh, yes
    Oh, yes

    [Bridge]
Make my heart, make my hands
Pure and holy for Your glory
Make my heart, make my hands
Pure and holy for Your glory
Make my heart, make my hands
Pure and holy for Your glory
Oh, make my heart, make my hands
Pure and holy for Your glory
God, make my heart, make my hands
Pure and holy for Your glory
Make my heart, make my hands
Pure and holy for Your glory, yeah
Make my heart, make my hands
Pure and holy for Your glory

    [Chorus]
I want more of You and less of me
More of You and less of me
Jesus, I just wanna be like You (Everyday, every moment)
And I want more of You and less of me
More of You and less of me

  45. Dear Audra, Still praying for God's comfort to cover you and Marc. I know you must still miss Paul so very much. The golden light of God's peace shines more brightly in the darkness, especially in times of sorrow. It's unchanging and always available. We have all lost loved ones. My heart always goes out to Sassy Mom and Terri. God knows their broken hearts and how difficult it is to walk into your future without a beloved child. When one loses a dear spouse, it must be as if one half of his or her life is gone. But God can fill the painful hole in a grieving heart with His love and comfort. How blessed we are that our loving Father knows everything, especially when we need a Hug. He lets us know how dear we are to Him by showing us sweet special moments in our day like a beautiful sunset or a baby's smiling face. He covers us with His Peace so we know we are well taken care of. We see His love for us in the faithfulness He shows in our lives, and how He can turn our paths and circumstances around to good. He only wants us to be blessed in His love and peace because He cares about us. Seek Him in times of sorrow, loneliness, sickness, confusion, and depression because underneath even the most difficult circumstances is His Light and Peace. They never fade away or leave us. They are constant, soothing and comforting. As we stay in His presence and trust in His help, His Spirit guides us through the dark valleys and wilderness times. We're not alone because He promises that He will never leave or forsake us. We can rest in that truth and in His perfect Love.

    Psalm 139:13-16
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

    Psalm 34:18
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ.

  46. My dear sister Janet is flying back to Missouri this morning and we will miss her very much. She has been a dear companion to our Mom for three months, often putting our Mom's needs and wants before her own. I am in awe at how much she has accomplished in our Mom's house and in her life. Janet is a wonderful organizer and she has worked hard to get her financial records in order. God has been glorified by her good works and her selfless deeds. She also has been such a good friend and sister to me, and my prayer partner through my own trial. May God cover her and her family with traveling mercies and protection and lead them all to joy, peace and fulfillment. And Praise God! She has a new granddaughter, Daphne Eliana, so we ask God to bless, protect and strengthen this beautiful baby girl and her Mom, Dad and big brother, Trevor. 48. And the Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let him who hears say, "Come!" And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely. (Revelation 22:17). Grace, mercy, and peace will be with you from God the Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love. (2 John 1:3). Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. We love Him because He first loved us. (1 John 4:17-19). To those who have obtained like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ: Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. (2 Peter 1:1-4). "Awake, you who sleep, arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light." (Ephesians 5:14).

  49. "My Peace is like a shaft of golden Light shining on you continuously."
As MadFox has previously posted he often when praying visualizes loved ones protected in a beam of light.
I similarly, often visualize those I pray for lit up as in a beam of light shining down upon them as they're busy about their day. As they move about so the light moves with them.
Although we cannot actually see it, we, who are in Him are in 'His Light', which we walk in daily.
God's 'Light theme' continues in His Word
"Your word is a lamp for unto my feet, and a light unto my path." Psalm 119:105.
We need to be 'well lit' in this day and age, the only thing that banishes the darkness is Light. "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." (John 1:5)
I enjoy referring to various Bible versions when reading Scriptures; one of my favorites is the AMPC which fleshed out a fuller understanding.
The following two scriptures are from the AMPC:
John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you; My [own] peace I now give and bequeath to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. [Stop allowing yourselves to be agitated and disturbed; and do not permit yourselves to be fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled.]"
Colossians 3:15 " And let the peace (soul harmony which comes) from Christ rule (act as umpire continually) in your hearts [deciding and settling with finality all questions that arise in your minds, in that peaceful state] to which as [members of Christ’s] one body you were also called [to live]. And be thankful (appreciative), [giving praise to God always]."
May the Prince of Peace continually guide you and strengthen you in His Love Light; for His Glory, for your good and the good of those around you. Amen

  59. It’s a little crazy to think this was posted over ten years ago. I’m sure we can all think of how far we’ve come and how much things have changed in that time. Currently I’m awake at 5AM, after waking up with anxiety. This is always my go-to place when that happens. It’s been my go-to place since 2017, after my grandpa passed and my grief and anxiety became too much to bear. It still is too much at times. You’d think this devotional would grow a little tiresome, like I’d start remembering each one and it would become repetitive. But these devotions ALWAYS fit what I need to hear. Always. Maybe that’s a sign that I never really change. But I think it’s a sign of God working through it. I’ve never felt so understood or at peace or even like the Lord is talking to me through anything the way I do with this devotional. Thank you so much for sharing and giving us this companion on long nights.
    God Bless💙
