Jesus Calling: February 2

I am renewing your mind. When your thoughts flow freely, they tend to move toward problems. Your focus gets snagged on a given problem, circling round and round it in attempts to gain mastery. Your energy is drained away from other matters through this negative focus. Worst of all, you lose sight of Me.
     A renewed mind is Presence-focused. Train your mind to seek Me in every moment, every situation. Sometimes you can find Me in your surroundings: a lifting birdsong, a loved one's smile, golden sunlight. At other times, you must draw inward to find Me. I am always present in your spirit. Seek My Face, speak to Me, and I will light up your mind.
Romans 12:2
English Standard Version
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Psalm 105:4
English Standard Version
Seek the LORD and his strength;
seek his presence continually!

My Prayer
Lord, I want my mind to be renewed. Thank you for changing me and changing my focus. Thank you for making my thoughts new and different. Continue to free me from my problems and distract me from them. They are there. And if nothing can be done about them at any moment, then I don't need to turn my focus to them. I know that me and my family members have a tendency to let problems begin to snare them and control them and they obsess with them. But, Lord, let us turn our focus on You and realize that You want us to not be anxious about our problems. Lord, I present them to You and pray that we would be drawn to You and understand that Your peace will pass all understanding.

Lord, remind me of Your presence. Remind me that You are in my surroundings. I can see You in nature, in other people. Keep my focus on You throughout the day. I don't want to wallow back and forth, but always be present on that High Road of faith.

Give me strength to be bold in my conversations, always looking for an opportunity to speak of You and share You with others.

Lord, the way of the world is not what I want to be about. Lord, train up me and train up churches and the people in them to seek You daily. Deepen all of our walks with You and make us Your ambassadors, always eager to speak of Your name.

  1. The truth of this devo today is frustrating, because it is completely accurate of my weak prayer life. While praying, I start with a focus on God but within a very short time, I pivot into longer term problems that will have no immediate solutions. Father, Son, Spirit, help me to focus on You and the issues of today ONLY! Thank you and Amen.

  2. Bob - how did your procedure go? Have prayed for you throughout the day. Spent the evening with Son #1 - the one who thinks he doesn't believe. Yet he spent he whole evening asking his Dad if he was blessed. To me, that is a son who cares. So very thankful for our life of almost 45 yrs. What joy. I, too (MadFox), ask for FOCUS.

    3. Thank you, Norah and MadFox and all of you for your loving concern. Procedure went well and served its purpose. Had a blessed moment as the nurse was getting me ready. Being that my anxiety was next to nothing because of prayer and resting in the Lord, I was able to engage her in good conversation while she was going about her duties on me. In the process of the conversation, she shared with me that her husband though retired still likes to practice his trade of home construction but needs to drive 35 miles a day through rush hour to get to and from work. My wife and I have a dear friend who takes care of and has done much work on our home and he is in desperate need to find good help in his work. So we exchanged phone numbers and I enabled the two to be in touch with one another. What a blessing to be used in the context of a waiting room with needles being stuck into you to be of service to others. Thanks be to God.

  3. Today's reading speaks to us all of a deficiency within our souls. We live in a day and age of too much activity in our lives causing our minds to be zooming all over the place. So when we come into the presence of God we need to settle our minds down. Suggestions to help y'all with this is to sit quietly for several minutes and concentrate on your breathing. Breathe God in, exhale all that other stuff out and repeat. You may want to use a favorite verse of scripture in doing this. For example, (breathing in) The Lord is my shepherd; (exhaling) I shall not want and repeat. This can help your focus. When you are ready, move on to your meditation and prayers. Your mind is likely to still wander and when it does, bring yourself back gently with your breathing again. Developing this focus on God is a process and it needs to be practiced over and over and over until through repetition, our focus improves bit by bit each day. (You can also use this practice throughout the day as needed.) Take heart, when the day comes when we are with God forever and ever, His love for us and His beloved presence will consume us entirely and we will be focused on Him alone and we will never want to think of anything else ever again. Thanks be to God!

What a wonderful reminder that Jesus is always with us, clearing our minds of the enemies favorites; worry, panic , anxiety brings us a spiritual peace that is a gift from our Lord. Opening our minds to seeing Gods glory in all our surroundings seems to be difficult during trials but the reward is nothing short of a heavenly experience. There is always hope even in the saddest moments , trust in Jesus. Remember Matthew 8:23 -27, and have faith.....

  9. I had to hop back on here and was so thankful to hear how well everything went for you, Bob! Loved the focus tips too. Will put that into practice. I find myself checking on he people in our little community, for the healing and comfort that works when we are praying for others and ourselves. What a blessing. To the woman (Anonymous) who is expecting a baby - you will be in my specific prayers. I just read about a woman who had twins and they tried to get her to abort one because he wasn't growing "right." She wouldn't. At birth, one weighed 7 lbs and the other 2! One stayed in the NICU for 10 days, the other for 29. She showed a photo of the twins, now 2 years old. You can't tell which one was the 'little' one at birth. They are both perfect. Our God is an awesome God! And thank you "Trusting the Lord" for your kind reminder. I can be SO patient with everyone else and just beat the heck out of myself at times - ha ha, really! Listened to Eye of the Storm - great song. Keep enjoying your Saturday, saints! :)

  11. Praise God from whom all blessings flow, praise Him all creatures here below. I thank You this morning dear Lord, for another blessed day full of Your blessings. Thank You for Your love so great that You sent Your Son Jesus, my Saviour into the world to die for me. Take all the best moments of my days. For You alone oh Lord are 'Majestic in Holiness and Awesome in Glory' (Exo.15:11).
    Thank You for Your goodness and mercy.

    Our adversary who is the devil, tries to mess with our minds. It is his favorite first attempt to distract and disarm believers and most times it works. So what do we do to defeat this devil? We ask God to guard and direct our minds, help us to recognize the source and self-defeating thoughts and replace them with a God focused mindset. Romans 5:1 tells us that "Through faith in Christ Jesus, we are at peace with God".

    May the Lord protect our minds, help us to recognize the enemy, work to keep our minds focused on Him, seek His face, speak to Him and rest in the truth that we are accepted in Christ Jesus.

    On this Sunday, may we worship the Lord in Spirit and in trurh.
    Praying for the needs and concerns of all. Stay blessed.

  12. This day, February 2nd, is the 40th day after Jesus was born and an event occurred for Jesus which is recorded in Luke 2:22-38 (yes, I know Luke 2 has been packed up and stored away until next December but you may want "unpack" it and dwell in the incident without the glitter of the season.). On this day, the 40th day after birth, the law of Moses required that "every firstborn male shall be designated as holy to the Lord". Mary and Joseph in all their love and devotion to the Lord fulfilled faithfully what the Lord had commanded be done. They took it seriously because they took God seriously for in fulfilling the law's requirements God was glorified and they would find great blessing.

    This is Sunday and some of you will be attending churches where this event will be the focus of the worship experience with much high liturgy. It is celebrating the Lord coming into His temple as stated in Malachi 3:1 but even more importantly, as He has come into you when you were baptized, for you are now His temple (I Corinthians 6:19). Others of you will be attending churches whose leadership has been led to provide a different focus for today. It doesn't matter which is the case. What is most important is the posture you take in attending worship today, the posture Mary and Joseph took as they fulfilled the law's requirements. They did so out of love for their Lord and God (and love of their new born son) for this brings Him glory and they will find great blessing when God is most glorified. If you attend a church that will focus on the Presentation of the Lord, allow the liturgy to draw you into the event and be blessed in it. If it is not focused on in your church, you may want to sit with the passage in Luke and allow the Holy Spirit to draw you into the significance of the event. For me, I was blessed by spending time contemplating the painting "The Presentation of Christ in the Temple" by Fra Angelico (can be easily found doing an image search). Though this may be considered a lesser holy day (lesser than Christmas, Easter, or Pentecost), is there really any such thing as "lesser" when it comes to our Lord? May you be blessed in worship today, JC Family, just as Mary and Joseph were when they entered the temple filled with love and devotion for the Lord. God be with you.

    Sometimes I foolishly allow human emotions to blind my vision, when my focal point should always be Jesus. I get wrapped up in the moment and let go of His Hand. Out of love for the Lord, I must do my best to empty myself of the chaff so He can fill me with those things that will never fade away.
    Suzanne, What a blessing that moment must have been! I cherish the time with my two little Grandsons. They're only 2 but wise beyond their years. I sure do understand dear CO. 17. “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans 12:2.

    Loving Father, We give thanks for the gift of another blessed day. Thank You for guiding each of us down the path to renewing our minds in Your presence and through Your Word, so that we might experience a greater measure of this abundant life in You. You have given us minds that are the gateway to our emotions, our decisions, and perspectives. The human mind is a vehicle in which thoughts and ideas turn into emotions, actions and beliefs.
    We gives thanks to You because Your incredible love for us, has given us the Holy Spirit and Your Word. As we read the Word, listen to it, obey it, memorize it, and meditated on it, the Holy Spirit uses that to renew us and conform us to the image of Christ Jesus. As Romans 12:1-2 puts it, when we are renewed, we are also indeed transformed and when transformed, our whole lives proves that Your will is perfect, acceptable, and holy.
    You have given us the ability to renew our minds to the truth and how You see and feel about us and the truth of who we really are. May we set our minds on the Spirit and begin to experience life in our thoughts, because our way of thinking will be transformed from negative and destructive thoughts and actions, to the positive and be responsive to Your countless love and grace. Help us to be blind to the world around us, all the assumptions we live with, all the lies we tend to believe, but rather focus on the renewing of our minds and watch it change our entire days for the better as we walk with You. You are the God who authored the Word we read and meditate on. May we always receive it’s revelation as it stands out to us, and allow it to change the way we feel, think and act. The Apostle Paul tells us that by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, we can “Be renewed in the spirit of our mind.” The secret to this is to, pick up our Bibles and read with the mindset to hear and do what it says, and rest in the truth that we are accepted in Christ Jesus. Father, we thank You, that through faith in Christ, we are at peace with You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

    “Those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.” Romans 8:5-6.

    Blessings and Peace.

    "Father, I know You love me, and I am Your child. I am troubled and don't understand how any good can come from this situation. Still I am trusting You, and know this circumstance has a purpose. Please help me to find the good in what I see as bad. In my unrighteousness let me see the work of Your Grace. In my problems let me see the strength of Your Power. In my disappointments let me see presence of Your Comfort. In my failures let me see the Grace of Your Love. In my confusion let me see the certainty of Your Will."

  19. As always reading today's devotion and posts along with posts from previous years my heart is rejuvenated and I'm reminded to focus on his presence in me and around me. Some days it's much easier to do this because my focus is not where it should be. I have to remember my Joy isn't based on a easy day it's based on who I belong to. Renewing our minds and choosing to be aware of his presence takes an investment. What we invest our time and attention on shows where our priority lies. Lord forgive me for days when my focus is on my situations and what is happening in our world rather than looking up and having my focus be on you the only one who has the answers and the ability to work through every situation. Lord you are God alone, you are the only one who is worthy of praise.

  25. Jeanne, call me cautious or someone now dealing with enough drug and supplement side effects that I am trying hard to eliminate some so as to figure out fatigue. slight balance issues upon standing, trouble with recall/slow thinking, etc.

    I know magnesium can negatively impact some drug effectiveness AND personally, I would not just add it to someone's daily intake without asking the doctor. Yes it can help arythmia but I take it to counteract the chemo drugs apparently somehow reduce it in the blood. While it's available OTC I'd still call the doc office and talk to the RN about if it's okay to add. Sorry but I'm a minimalist to boot on ALL drugs, thus it also pains me (mentally) after decades of taking zero that I have so many now each day. Godspeed. Just a pharmaceuticals minimus patient's 2 cents! Amen.

    1. Thank you dear MadFox. Rick woke up today not feeling good. Worst than yesterday. I told him to call the doctor. He said No because he was already scheduled for the procedure on Friday. I suggested he take a magnesium. I always take one at night to sleep with an Evening Primrose oil. He took one and now he said he is starting to feel better. But I will tell him to ask his doctor what he thinks about adding it to his daily meds. I hate to take meds, even pain killers but I do take a lot of vitamins which my GP carefully monitors. Thanks for praying for my DH. I’ve been praying with my sister and Mom. God hears our prayers and knows we’re trusting in Him. Praying for you dear MadFox and our dear Butterfly love, Margi, Jenna, Brie and Keith, Ellen, and all our JC Family and their loved ones. God is greater than anything we face. So we wait on the Lord. 2. Keeping you, Jeanne, your DH, Mad 🦊 and all our JC readers in my prayers. Thank you Lord for guidance on vitamins and medications to live better health through chemistry. Seeking the balance of all things inside and out that keep me focused on you. Last night I had an awakening of how I act with stress and uncomfortable situations. I behave like a nervous wreck flitting about looking for something to DO to distract me into some comfort zone or please others. It took a dying man, my BIL, to remind me to sit my self down and just be still. Help me Jesus, to be still and know that you are God. Be that human BEing, not a human DOing.

    2. Don't you love when that happens?! When I pause in my day and happen to be outdoors or a window is open and I hear the melodic tennis match of birds singing to each other, it brings me such joy. It always amazes me that even when the skies are densely covered in clouds, the birds still sing! What a great reminder to find joy in our storms, right?! Hope you all have a blessed and joy-filled day! Praying healing blessings for all who need healing. In Jesus' great name, amen!

  29. Good morning everyone! ☀️I would like to ask everyone to please pray for my daughter Tori. She was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis when she was 14. She has had most of her colon removed and had a colostomy at one time but had it reversed. She still has to have Entyvio infusions every six weeks. She has been in and out of hospitals since she was diagnosed. She’s had 3 major surgeries, several blood transfusions, iron infusions and been stuck so many times like a pin cushion. It breaks my heart knowing all that she has endured. In the past couple of months she’s had a very bad case of what we think is tonsillitis but she’s scheduled for an ENT appointment on Friday to find that out. It’s possibly a side effect of the Entyvio. She has been tested for everything and all negative thank God for that! However, when she is sick she has weakness, fatigue and weight loss. She dehydrates quickly too and sometimes we have to take her for IV fluids. Right now she’s fighting a fever but is saying hydrated and eating. Her throat still looks bad but besides that and the fever everything is good. A healthy weight for her is 101 but right now she’s 91 lbs. She gets very self-conscious about it too. She’s such a beautiful spirit and soul. I know she belongs to Jesus and He loves her more than me. She is such a trooper and I have seen her change like a butterfly through all of her pain. She’s always been sweet, dedicated, determined and full of life. I hate to see her practically bed ridden. Please pray for her JC family. Pray that God will supernaturally heal her or give her amazing strength to go through this. Sometimes she gets ahead of herself and overloads her life because she wants it to be full. I feel like she pushes herself too hard not considering her condition cannot handle work, college and social life overload. She’s 20 now but still my baby and I am honored to take care of her as much as I hate to see her go through this. Thank-you everyone for lifting her up. Her name is Tori Faith even her name has been part of a grand plan I think. ♥️

You are a good and loving Mother and the best Caregiver she could have. May God strengthen you both in body, mind and spirit and heal her throat and her colitis and give her an appetite and a body that will cooperate so she can gain weight and be relieved of her pain and be brought back to perfect health. With God all things are possible and in that truth we stand together and pray.
      Thank You Father for lifting up your beloved daughter Tori high above her sickness and misery, and heal her young body and remove her infirmities and strengthen her and her good Mom in every way and renew and refresh them and return them to good health, comfort and peace of mind in the Name of Christ Jesus we pray. 38. Psalm 105:4
    Seek the LORD and his strength;
    seek his presence continually!
    I love this verse so much. When I am weak, I am strong in the Lord. I want to stay in His presence where I receive so much peace, understanding and comfort. Even when the path ahead is unknown, He holds me still and assures me. I'm not fearful of the future because I know I'm always in His loving care. We couldn't ask for anything better than to be in His Hands. Tomorrow's infusion is the last one! Hallelujah. He brought me through my treatments and told me everything would be alright. He is so much greater than my cancer. And I believe Him. It's better to trust in God than man.
    If any of you are walking through a wilderness right now, or you're at a crossroad and you don't know which way to turn. Or you feel like you're sinking further down and need a lifeline, seek the Lord with a sincere heart of faith and He will be found. He is always there waiting for us to come to Him, all those who labor and are heavy laden. He is the Only One Who can give us rest. He asks us to bring our burdens to Him. He wants us to walk with a lighter load so we can serve Him better. His will is for us to be healed of our infirmities. He only wants His children to be blessed, happy and prosperous. He wants to provide our needs so we don't have to struggle to survive. So we must come to our good and loving Father, and tell Him what we really need even though He already knows. He loves a trusting heart and also a heart of gratitude.

    Psalm 31:19 Oh, how great is Your goodness,
    Which You have laid up for those who fear You,
    Which You have prepared for those who trust in You
    In the presence of the sons of men!

    Matthew 7:7-8 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
    For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

    Psalm 40:17 But I am poor and needy;
    Yet the Lord thinks upon me.
    You are my help and my deliverer;
    Do not delay, O my God.

    Psalm 37:4 Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

    Matthew 6:32-33 For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

    1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

I prayed so much and a few weeks before her scheduled surgery (feb 9) I found a scoliosis center in California that might be able to help us non surgically. We will be traveling to California this Sunday (Feb 5) and starting her treatments on Monday (Feb 6). Please, please please keep us in prayer that these treatments will be the answer because I feel that God is leading us there. I found Jesus Calling by Sarah Young in my mom's closet right before the new years and I felt like it was meant for me because It came to me at the perfect time. 43. Good morning all! Still waiting to hear results from the scholarship competition weekend. 2 will be awarded out of around 80 kids. It was a wonderful weekend and our son felt confirmation that this is the right college for him. He was welcomed by current students. Professors recognized him as a visitor. So please keep praying! We will know by Friday.

    Now more importantly. Life is funny how good and bad happen concurrently, isn’t it? My best friend of 42 years…her husband (we’re all in our 40s) was diagnosed yesterday with a brain tumor. They went to the ER after he experienced stroke-like symptoms. We need to pray the tumor is not what it looks like on imaging (a glioblastoma) but pray somehow, when doctors operate tomorrow, that they will be stunned to find it does not look like cancer. The surgeon said of course pathology is the final say, but once they lay eyes on the tumor, they will be certain what they are looking at. It is a golfball sized growth in his frontal lobe. They have 3 kids: 16, 13 and turning 8 this weekend. So please pray for B. His brain tumor surgery will likely be around noon tomorrow (central time).

    This is life I guess. The highs and the lows. It feels like whiplash sometimes. Meanwhile, praise the Lord for his faithfulness through all generations.

    And to keep them alive in famine.
    Our soul waits for the Lord;

  50. When we are physically tired our minds are tired too. We forget God is with us to lead us through whatever we must accomplish. He sure helped me cook and clean yesterday. I’m ready for my family’s visits today and tomorrow. I come to the Lord to be replenished in every way. When I notice my emotions are leading me rather than my Spirit, I run to Him. Just speaking His Name brings me back into His presence. The hardest task is easy when He is beside me helping me. Thank You Father for nudging me to receive the peace and guidance you offer especially when I’m weary, and when my mind is not following you but following the world, thank You for renewing my mind and putting me right back on track! You are such a good and caring Father. Lead me, Lord through this day. Your compassion and faithfulness are new every morning. I’m blessed.

    Lamentations 3:22-24
    Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed,
    Because His compassions fail not.
    They are new every morning;
    Great is Your faithfulness.
    “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
    “Therefore I hope in Him!”

  51. But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord. (2 Corinthians 3:18). Now may the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the patience of Christ. (2 Thessalonians 3:5).

    1. So rend your heart and not your garments; return to the LORD your God, for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and of great kindness; and He relents from doing harm. (Joel 2:13). And the LORD shall be king over all the earth. In that day it shall be--"The LORD is One", and His name One. (Zechariah 14:9).

  52. I AM being transformed by the renewing of my mind. Jesus is always present in my spirit. I Seek His Face, and He speaks to Me, and He lights up my mind and my life...
    JUST FOR TODAY, I will be happy and I will act happy. I will choose to dwell on thoughts that INSPIRE me. When my mind fills with clouds, I will chase them away and fill it up with sunshine. In Jesus' Name. AMEN!

  54. Inspired by many of your posts yesterday, I decided to retire my old journal and start a new one while on my hike. Both journals have bible verses on each page. As I paused on a small boulder near some massive pine trees, I wrote a final note in my old journal, even though there were a few pages left. I wrote about how thankful I was for the journey thus far, and how it's time to continue that journey, but with greater faith and trust (a renewing of the mind in many ways.)
    As I finished writing in the old journal, I noticed the verse at the bottom of the page was Isaiah 40:31, which is the EXACT same verse on the cover of my NEW journal! I was thinking, "okay Lord, I get it, time to mount up on those wings, trusting you will provide the wind beneath them to sustain me, strengthen me, direct me, and uphold me, in trust and faith in your awesomeness, your promises and your steadfast love!" Amen.

    Also, a thank you for your prayers as my wife and daughter received somme encouraging news yesterday at their visits.
    I'm off to ortho today and ask for your prayers for that as well.

    May your day be filled with the peace of Christ.
    Shalom!

      Yes! Now is the time for all of us to let HIM raise us up on those eagle wings, trusting Him to provide the wind beneath them which sustains us, strengthens us, directs us, and upholds us in trust and faith in His awesomeness, His promises and His steadfast love!
      JUST FOR TODAY I will happily watch a bird in flight!
      In Jesus' Name. Amen.

  55. Praying for your appointment to go well because Jesus will be guiding it to good. May God heal you and your wife and daughter in all ways and strengthen you. You are all in my prayers. Loved that the same verse was on the front of your new journal! A favorite of mine too! That was a Godwink. Be blessed!
