Jesus Calling: February 27

Keep your eyes on Me! Waves of adversity are washing over you, and you feel tempted to give up. As your circumstances consume more and more of your attention, you are losing sight of Me. Yet I am with you always, holding you by your right hand. I am fully aware of your situation, and I will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able to bear.
Your gravest danger is worrying about tomorrow. If you try to carry tomorrow's burdens today, you will stagger under the load and eventually fall flat. You must discipline yourself to live within the boundaries of today. It is in the present moment that I walk close to you, helping you carry your burdens. Keep your focus on My Presence in the present.

Psalm 73:23

English Standard Version

Nevertheless, I am continually with you;
    you hold my right hand.

1 Corinthians 10:13

English Standard Version

No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

God is always there. Even in the midst of temptations, He is there providing a way out. We need to surrender to the Lord in adversity because our struggles are not a surprise to Him. Stay surrendered to the Lord today and let Him take care of the future.

My Prayer
Lord, help me to keep my eyes on You. Lord, you have created all so understanding me and my challenges and adversities is something You can handle. Help me to trust this. Lord, you know my tendency. It is to stay busy and active, to the point that I just don't think about the trials or difficulties. But maybe that is a good thing for it keeps me not thinking about those trials. Just keep me focused on eternal things.

  1. "You must discipline yourself to live within the boundaries of today." Difficult enough to do, yet I consistently analyze days, weeks and months ahead. No doubt, fearing that I will not be in control of future events.

Father, I know You desire us to focus on today and that is my goal. But help me to be attentive to obvious future events so that a plan to deal with them is accomplished with a spiritual mindset and within Your will. Thank you for holding my right hand. In Jesus' name, Amen.

  3. My devotional time this AM was about living life simply having but one aim, to be near the Lord our God in all circumstances. Quote from the devotional: "It is better to want little than to have too much." For me, many of the opportunities to be anxious stem from too much complexity with which I have allowed in my life. The more simple my life is, the less there is to worry about. Interesting thought in this devotional, sometimes our efforts to "get God" through over indulgence in religious activities can also draw us away from simply loving God. (I have tossed that one in for whatever it is worth to you.) God be with you.

      I've been running in circles
      Jumping the hurdles
Getting caught in that rush of doing so much
      I'm feeling kinda worn out
      All this checking the boxes
      Trying to be flawless
Has me spinning my head, catching my breath
      Too afraid to slow down
I tell myself to keep this up
That God wants more than just my love
      But I've been complicating things
It's just like me to overthink
Gotta keep it real simple, keep it real simple
Bring everything right back to ground zero
'Cause it all comes down to this

      Rescues hearts and changes lives
Love is all we need to make things right
Gotta keep it real simple, oh
      It's really so simple, oh-ooh-oh-oh-oh-ohh
Gotta keep it real simple, keep it real simple
Bring everything right back to ground zero

Today's reading reminds me what I need to stay focused on and if I do, then there will be no need to feel anxious about what is to come. I love that he holds my hand through the day. I find comfort knowing his will is full of life and love. I love that he cares about me so much that he will always provide. He's with me always. We are blessed for such a gift.

  6. Reading about those of us who "look to the future", "store up for future struggles or hardships" "miss the presence of today"....I think of a talk by Francis Chan on The Lords Prayer. Jesus talks about "our daily bread" not bread beyond today. Not stock piling bread for the future out of fear. What God provides today is sufficient. Tomorrow we will be provided with "daily bread" and each day. Lord Jesus, give us the wisdom to rely on faith and trust that Your bread/blessings for TODAY IS sufficient. Amen.

  8. Several years ago I was dealing with a very aggressive cancer and had to have chemo once a week on Wednesdays. The chemo had caused sores in my mouth, nausea, my skin to peel off my hands and feet and several other side effects. My daughter who lived out of town would call me everyday. One Monday she called me and I told her I could not go on, I had 15 more treatments left and was going to quit. She kindly reminded me of the Israelites (as Bob says) in Exodus, where God provided Manna from heaven and told them to gather enough for that day. She told me not to worry about that coming Wednesday, but instead each day focus on what I needed from him for just that day and to set my sight on Him in that day and not the coming days. God was faithful to me each day as I looked straight into his face and not on the weeks ahead. I made it through and thankfully He met me everyday in my desert. Thank you Lord.

    5. Thanks PeasForChickens. Your post brings me back two years ago when I was going through very tough radiation. Stripping down to nothing and lying there on a cold hard slab, feeling totally alone in an empty room, except for the "machines" and in tears.
I imagined this to be what death must feel like. I did not have this site but a kind soul crocheted me a cross and another, made me a corded rosary. I was able to put them in my socks to feel God's presence.
Thankful to God that DH drove me 110 miles RT everyday for almost 2 months, when I could not drive myself. Somehow, I was able to make it through when I wanted to give up and quit. God is so good, so good to us. Thanks Be To God, in Jesus' Name. Amen

  9. Good Morning JC Family,
I have read daily and as always, your prayers are mine. Such wonderful news about Lisa, Sassy Mom! What true grit! Continued prayers for her. I asked for prayers for my friend who was diagnosed with breast cancer and it is completely gone! The day they told her, they also said that they had found lymphoma. Of course, it sent her in a spin. I talked to her a few days ago and they are so minimal, that they aren't even treating her! They will watch her every 3 months. Praise and Glory to God! (her last words to me were, "Go get that mammogram!" Sigh.
Today my Best Man leaves for his adventure of a lifetime. I miss him already but cannot help but be excited for him and proud of him for pursuing a dream. The last month has reminded me of getting our kids ready for church camp...he is like a kid and his eyes are sparkling with excitement. Please pray with me for his safety, a smooth trip, and no issues! Remind him, Father, to get up on that long plane ride and move. I know You will protect him, my son and daughter in love.
And You will protect me and help me grow while he is gone. I have such excitement to see his face when he returns home to a new kitchen, orderly home and a wife who has more confidence b/c I am being forced to walk out on my believing and mean it when I say, "I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me."
"You must discipline yourself to live within the boundaries of today. It is in the present moment that I walk close to you, helping you carry your burdens. Keep your focus on My Presence in the present." I see so much discipline in so many of you on here. I yearn for that. Why is it that I could reign myself in, do what is needed and not even think about the discomfort of not serving myself, if it benefited anyone else, but I don't do it for myself? That's my million $ question. Maplewood, your words yesterday were so powerful. PeasForChickens - your story left me amazed last year and had the same effect today.
Lord, give me the strength and discipline to love myself enough to do what is best. Encourage me to get outside of this selfish mindset that if it doesn't feel good, or if it's outside my comfort zone, I'm just not doing it. Look what Your Son did for each of us so that we may have a more abundant life. I thank You for instilling in me the DESIRE to be my best for You.
Love and Blessings to each of you. Praying without ceasing for each of you and your requests. And I will send my dear Hub off without selfish tears and only joy for him and his adventure.

  13. LUKE 9:22-25

Friends, in today’s Gospel, the Lord lays out the conditions for discipleship. He makes this demand: “For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.”

Notice that this is not simply a question of accepting suffering that happens to befall one. This is not simply a Stoic resignation.

Jesus is telling us actively to take up our crosses, to seek them out, to carry them as he willingly carried his. What Jesus did on the cross was to bear the burden of the world’s sin. He bore others’ burdens in love. And this is what we must do: actively, proactively seeking out ways to lighten other people’s loads.

Reflect: In what ways can you go out of your way this Lent to choose one person in your life and lighten his or her load?

    1. Thank you for your post, Suzanne R. The post from yesterday, Ash Wednesday, initially bothered me for it challenged us to do more than just work on the soul but to be proactive in living out the spirit of the Lenten season. But the longer I thought about it and in reading your post for today, the Spirit is affirming to me what you are saying. Though I will be stepping out of the gospel readings for the day as you are, I will be reading through Matthew 8-13 to observe Jesus being just that, proactive in fulfilling God's will for His life. So thank you for bothering me; it was a good bother. God be with you!

    2. LOL. Glad I could be a bother. Hahahahaha

  14. "Create within me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me." (Psalm 51:10), the goal of the Lenten season.

So often people understand a clean heart as one that does not do dirty (immoral) things. But what I have grown to understand is that a pure heart is one that has but one desire, to love God. An impure heart is one that has many loves (attachments) leading to all types of behavior. It is said Saint Francis of Assisi took a vow of poverty but it wasn't for the purpose of being without anything, rather it was to have but one thing, God. That would be a pure/clean heart. My objective this Lenten season is to desire a pure heart as Jesus had which brought blessing to all. So I prayed this morning for a pure heart. The answer I received was, "Follow me." So I have begun a reading of Matthew 8-13 to follow Jesus and observe a heart that is pure in action. I will be sharing in this blog during the Lenten season the experience I have in following Jesus. (I "love" the Lenten season, it brings me closer to the Lover of my soul.)

Be blessed this day, sisters and brothers in Christ. (In accordance with our JC reading above, I only pray for your blessing today. If/When tomorrow comes, I will ask the same then.) With love, Bob

Heavenly Father, look upon us and hear our prayer during this holy Season of Lent. By the good works You inspire, help us to discipline our body and be renewed in Spirit.
Without You, we can do nothing. By Your Spirit help us to know what is right and to be eager in doing Your will. Help us to live by Your commandment of love and send Your Spirit to make us strong in faith and active in good works. During this Lenten Season, nourish us with Your Word of life and make us one with You in love and prayer. Open our hearts to Your love and prepare us for the coming feast of the Resurrection.
I ask this through our Lord Jesus, Your Son who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever.

Wishing you all a blessed and fruitful day.

Jesus was "in it to win it" the entire day yesterday with my brother and the paperwork signing, and with me. I am exhausted and will provide more detail about God's Goodness and Mercy that got us through. But for now, I wanted our early risers to have a glimpse of this Victory step.
BOB: Thanks so much for the racehorse and pony story and visual. With it in mind, I clip clopped through the day with the ease and gait of a pony and it helped the situation tremendously; it actually allowed me to sense His presence throughout.
Like Norah, I read and reread all of our JC Warriors' prayers throughout the day. Yes, thank God, my brother is a Man Of God, and I am so thankful his brain didn't erase that.
I sang and hummed Norah's post, I Don't Know About Tomorrow (because we don't have to since we know Someone Who Does) and I Am A Child Of God, thanks to Audra's post. All of your prayers, posts, visuals, and songs provided a Holy Comforter around us that we could feel, more than thanks can thank!

  23. Yesterday I was thanking my future Son in Love for all the many ways he has brought joy and strength to the relationship with my daughter. I reminded him that they are so blessed by God who loves them unconditionally. He said he just keeps trying to keep God happy. I reminded him that it is really easy to keep God happy... Just thank Him for EVERYthing, the good, the bad and the ugly, and trust in Him to make all things new. I continue to pray that he and my daughter come to know their need for salvation through Jesus Christ as a joy, not a burden. Thank you Father for blessing them with so much as they navigate the purchase of their new home and plan for a beautiful wedding when it is safe in their minds to gather in a big way in celebration with all families and friends. I trust your perfect timing!

Today's devtotion reminds us that God is with us always, holding our rigbt hands, and He is fully aware of our situation. He will increase our bearability!
    Dear Special Angels.
Keith was temporarily accepted into a Senior Living Center where he receives Physical Therapy 3 to 4 times each week. His Physical Therapist is fantastic! And so is the entire staff (except for Karen the naysayer)
Thanks be to God, Keith's muscle strength is stronger in his lower body than it was when he arrived.
We were able to extend Keith's stay through February 28. After which, the permanent resident is scheduled to move in and the Center will have reached its limit of 15 residents,so there will be no more room in the inn for Keith, unless God says otherwise!
It was a Miracle Door Opening God who made room in the firstplace, for Keith to reside there temporarily during February.
After visiting several places, we chose this one, but were told, Sorry Charlie, no room in the inn. The 15th and final resident is scheduled to arrive Feb 1.
On my way out to see Facility # 5, the owner of our first choice facility called to say that the permanent resident who was supposed to check in on February 1, didn't. Therefore they had room during February for a temporary stay.
During tbaf times, true friends, J &K, called to say we were welcome to use their condo on the beach for a few days. Praise the Lord for this gift.. And the beach filled up the holes and restored my parched and weary soul.
So I will leave March 1 and beyond in His Hands, while praying for Miracles to The One Who Opens Doors no one can close.THY WILL BE DONE!
Putting my hand in The Hand of The Man Who stilled the waters...
Much Love and Many Prayers for you and your dear ones,

Your prayers greatly helped me activate today's devotion enabling me to Keep My Eyes on Jesus. Even when waves of adversity were trying to wash over me, I could sense His holding me by my right hand. Even when I had to take anti iodine reaction meds all throughout the night before. Even when the computers were down at the Imaging Center before I arrived, but working when I got there! Even when the Technician had to stick, poke and prod several times before a vein could be accessed. Even when the CT machine reminded me of the radiation machine.
Even then, I called on His Name, and thought of you praying.
All went well! Thanks be to God for your prayers, in Jesus' Name. AMEN!

Coming against the enemy to Squash, Mash, and TRASH the enemies schemes and plans. It is Written and I Decree and Declare that NO WEAPON FORMED AGAINST Gabrielle and the family will prosper! I am calling the Warring and Ministering Angels down, storming the gates of hell, trusting in God's promises and His VICTORY over darkness. I thank You, Lord for a quick BREAKTHROUGH for Gabrielle, Your Divine Intervention and Restoration of Health. In Jesus Name, Who empathizes with their pain and offers them comfort and hope, AMEN and AMEN

    5. Added your dear daughter Gabrielle to my prayer list. God is so much greater than her rare disorder. He understands it completely. May He enlighten the doctors to the right treatment to bring her back to good health and make sure she will be seen very soon. Thank You Jesus! We're trusting in You.
