Jesus Calling: March 4

Refuse to worry! In this world there will always be something enticing you to worry. That is the nature of a fallen, fractured planet: Things are not as they should be. So the temptation to be anxious is constantly with you, trying to worm its way into your mind. The best defense is continual communication with Me, richly seasoned with thanksgiving. Awareness of My Presence fills your mind with Light and Peace, leaving no room for fear. This awareness lifts you up above your circumstances, enabling you to see problems from My perspective. Live close to Me! Together we can keep the wolves of worry at bay.
Luke 12:25-26
English Standard Version
And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? If then you are not able to do as small a thing as that, why are you anxious about the rest?

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
English Standard Version
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Once again, I am reminded of my dependence on the Lord. That walking and talking daily with Him is what will keep me on the right track and keep me in balance. Worry adds nothing to life. Instead rejoice.

My Prayer

Lift me up, Lord, to Your Level, so that I see my situations and problems from Your perspective. I can realize Lord that You are in control. You see the whole picture. Keep me away from worry and instead help me to do the opposite and rejoice in each day. Turn my concern and worry to prayer where I depend on Your strength and let You take care of my circumstances. My goal is to be thankful.

It seems amazing that I live in society with many comforts, and yet worry and anxiety remain present. Give me peace Lord even as there are situations in my life that are broken, relationships that aren't working out to my design, challenges, fatigue even after a good night's sleep, a mounting list of to-do's, through all of these, help me to rest and embrace the will of God in my life. Keep me centered on Your Gospel and how you have rescued me from judgment, sealing me in Christ.

  1. Heavenly Father, thank you, for all of Your mighty blessings. I thank you for keeping my brother in Christ, healthy and whole. Able to deliver his Wife's memorial service on Wed. Thank you, Jesus, for going before us in all ways; that we be not anxious and that we pray without ceasing. Answer my prayers, Father, for my daughter's new love. Let it be Godly; let it be whole. Heal my sister-in-law of her physical issue on Tuesday - don't let my husband be caught in a difficult situation with his sister; be there with him. Bless my children in every circumstance and keep my little granddaughter safe in AL. Wake me up early, singing your praises and counting my blessings, which are SO plentiful. I ask all of this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen. Heading to bed, my Team, with a somewhat heavy, tired heart as we have tried to comfort our brother in Christ at the loss of his wife of 50 years. She & I had 'issues' over the years, but we always knew the One thing we had in common and celebrated that. I look in the mirror and I see an old lady and wonder when that happened. I have a wedding to celebrate in June and I'm really trying to get in the Celebration mode. Give me that strength, Father.

    2. Rebecca, sorry to hear about your situation. I could not tell if you have nearby family, need to buy or rent a car, if you work or not, and thus can afford to rent a place to stay. If you've been attending a church, I would make your first stop with the pastor or staff and ask for assistance in your move, etc.

Father be with Rebecca today and guide her to the right people who can best help with her many decisions today and in the coming weeks. Amen.

    3. Rebecca, May God bless you on this journey, that you feel Gods presence with you every step of the way. God is pleased that your first comments are: "....heavenly father first of all I give you thanks for everything the trails that are going on in my life..." gratitude is so important , even among trials. Continue to look toward the light in this current darkness. Amen.

Norah, a heavy heart is so normal right now. So glad you are lifting it to God. Waking early to talk with our Lord is such a good remedy. I definitely relate to seeing an old lady in the mirror. It's like it happened over night. It's hard in our society but we're all beautiful children of God. Praying you get rest and renewal

  6. Through faith and trust in God, our father, we have no reason for worry or fear. As we walk with Jesus, his hand is always on us and will always protect us from the evil ways of this world and flesh. We simply need to always maintain our faith and trust in Him and be obedient to his commands and direction. When we do this, we will be amazed at how our life will be. Being reborn through Christ our savior is the one and only true answer to finding hope; peace and love in todays world. Thank You Lord for all your blessings and the opportunity to continually walk in your presence.

  9. Dear Father, Thank You for Your mercy anew this morning and Your grace that I dont deserve, but yet You’ve given me. There have been times when I didn’t acknowledge the blessings that You poured out for me each day. I got caught up in my pain, In the busyness of my work day etc..and many times, I forgot to stop to thank you for all that is good in my life and all that You allowed me to pass through. That is all behind me, because I will strive to press to the finish line and give You thanks everyday. I render all Thanks and Praise to You and ask Your Spirit continue to fill me with gratitude all the days of my life. My blessings are many and my heart is filled with gratefulness for the gift of living, for the ability to be loved by You, and for the opportunity to see the everyday wonders of Your creation, for sleep and rest, for a mind that thinks and a body that feels. I thank you for the things that seem challenging, difficult or unfair. When my heart feels empty in moments of brokenness and pain, may I look up with an outstretched arm and rejoice knowing that you are as near to me as my next breath and that in the midst of it all, I am growing and learning. The silence of my soul thank you most of all for your unconditional and eternal love.

Worrying puts our focus in the wrong direction, but when we turn our eyes and focus on God, we remember his unconditional love for us, and we begin to understand that we truly have nothing to fear. God has a wonderful plan for our lives, and part of that plan includes taking good care of us (Jer. 29:11). During the storms and difficult times, when all seems hopeless, when it seems like God doesn't care, we must get a grip and put our trust in the Lord and focus on his Kingdom. Worrying will not help you solve a problem nor will it bring about a possible solution, so why waste should we waste our time and energy to worry? Matt 6:26-tells us to: “Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is throw into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith”? We are urged in 1 Peter 5:7 to: “Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you”. If God provides for birds, He will surely provide for those He made in His own image and most importantly, God especially provide for those He bought with the blood of His Son! This is certainly a blessed assurance here and I can’t help but sing it and proclaim Hallelujah to the King!

Dear Heavenly Father, we are casting it all at the foot of the cross and leaving it right there in Your capable hands. No matter what it is, how painful it may be, how broken, how lost, how disappointed, how weak, how long the wait for answer prayers seems, we lay it all there and say, take control. We surrender all to You and trust You. We are in a Holy season of joy and peace, we will not allow the devil to steal that away from us. May every dead area of our lives resurrect in the name of Jesus! Why? Because as we are in the season of celebrating the RISEN KING, we remind the devil of WHOSE we are and fear not! This is our time and our season, we declare, it, believe it and receive it in Jesus name!

JC family, REJOICE, do not worry, but trust your heavenly Father who cares for you! Stay blessed.

  13. "Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me." (Psalm 51:10)

(Matthew 8:18-22) The people gathering around us continues to grow in great numbers, so much so that Jesus is unable to do what the Father has sent Him to do, to preach the Kingdom of God. So Jesus tells us to gather our belongings and get in the boat because we are going to go over to the other side of the Sea of Galilee. As people see us getting ready to depart, several individuals come up to Jesus to try to prevent Him from leaving. They also make comments to Him about wanting to be His dedicated follower and how as soon as they take care of some other matters, they will faithfully follow Him. Jesus realizes that His healing has created some superficial responses to Him. He does not criticize those who have made the statements but He does give them something to think about. To the one who proclaimed willingness to be a dedicated follower, Jesus made clear the challenging nature of being a disciple. To the one who was hesitating about following Him and giving a good rational for doing so, Jesus responded by saying that following Him was a matter that took single mindedness without delay. I was impressed with the manner in which Jesus handled the hoopla that was occurring around Him and these responses He made to those getting caught up in the hype. He saw the people for who they were in the moment, He did not discourage them, but He gave them something to think about as they considered all that they had seen and heard. He gave me something to think about as well."

As I pray for a clean heart and a new and right spirit within me this Lenten season, this passage challenges me to realize what I am asking for and to be willing to receive that which will enable that to occur and to do so without hesitation. I can start with today's JC reading and what it calls me to be. It is simple enough and yet it challenges me as well to discipline my mind to "refuse to worry". Easier said then done but as doable as I will want to be...and it is the path to a clean heart and a new and right spirit within me.

Thanks for listening, brothers and sisters in Christ. You help me see more clearly what the Spirit is saying to me in my time with Him. God be with you this day. With love, Bob

    6. The reading mentions thankfulness as a defense against worry. Instead of praying for a new heart and right spirit (Old Covenant concerns), we can rejoice and be thankful that God already gave us new hearts and right spirits -- permanently (New Covenant realities). From the moment He saved us, our hearts and spirits are as clean and close to Him as they will ever be. With this understanding, we can be thankful and then pray for our MINDS to be renewed. That's where the work needs to take place.

You are a Teacher. You are a Pastor. When I read what "unknown" wrote, I thought to myself, why haven't I said this to him before? And then you responded with it meeting a need for you. Your sharings are SO WORTH sharing and your knowledge and wisdom are so appreciated. When I read your words, I find it hard to believe you were every in a 'struggling' place. Yet, aren't we all at times? It is your humility, your experiences (many, painful) that give you the ability to share from the heart and thus connect with all of us - bring us back to the Word. Anytime we can do that based on, 'real life' experience, seems so much more powerful, because we've 'been there.' Anyway, it has been on my heart to share this with you and 'Unknown' just unleashed my words! God Bless you and MadFox, too (I'll write about YOUR words, soon - they have meant so much).

    2. Sweet, sweet Norah! Your professional role spills into kindness here as well. As discussed previously, by bloggers being anonymous yet sincere, and with a spirit of helping others, this blog has grown far beyond Chris Payton's initial intentions. Bob as a retired pastor and a man with a humble spirit (not all pastors have this gift) brings much insight and wisdom.

However, my contributions are simply sharing "lessons learned" as an agnostic turned Christian. Having NOT grown up exposed to a faith community, I chose (really, God's grace) to learn about faith as opposed to growing up infused with religion (not necessarily faith). Each brings to a group like this, some unique and beneficial perspective.

      Delete
    3. You both have such a great combination of humility and grace which is extended to those of us on this page. MadFox, you explain the difference between faith and religion so well. Religion is man-made; Faith is God-given. Humility is required in Faith, both to learn and grown and to share, honestly.
      So blessed.

Also continue to pray for my mom Jody as shes finally decided what to sell. Prayers as hubby and I contemplate purchasing one of her properties, and for discernment for our finances and helping her move and downsize. Also for direction for where she will move to. Lots of intricacies, but I need to be reminded to give them to God and then be silent and listen, and as today's devotion says"dont worry!" Prayers for each of you that have been requested. 23. “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline” 2 Timothy 1:7.

Loving Father, Thank You for the dawn of a new day. Your mercy is new every morning, great is Your faithfulness. Thank You for giving us strength to not be washed away by the floods of worry and anxiety, but rather maintain our hope and trust in You.
No matter what we encounter in life, may the grace that You have given us, release the power in us to never lose our faith in You. Grant us a strong will spirit that will overcome every and all fear, worry, and anxiety, because whatever we face will allow You to mold and shape us. You are our Peace, our Security, our Banner, our Healer, and our Provider. Help us to remember that the dark moments of our life will last only so long as is necessary for You to accomplish Your purpose in us (1 Sam 30:1-6). You know the Christian life is not easy, but as children, blessed and highly favored by a Sovereign God, we are never victims of our circumstances (Hosea 3:4-5). The One who endured the cross lives in us! So again, no matter what bumps, quick turns, detours, up hills, or down valleys we are in, we thank You for sending Your Holy spirit to indwell in and help us to endure as well! In Jesus’ name.

“The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds” 2 Corinthians 10:4.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” Philippians 4:6-7.

    Blessings and Peace.

    4. You gave me one my favorite verses Philippians 4:6-7 and I had a chance to be tested by God today.
Was on my feet most of the day preparing a nice dinner for my son's family for tonight. Then around 4:30 I went for a walk.
I just did too much fast walking outside and then my grandson wanted to play a game. I ran around a lot with my grandson back and forth from our kitchen down a long hallway to the front door of our apartment for about a half hour straight. He was having a ball but I started to feel lightheaded and whoozy. That never happened before. I thought I was going to pass out because my vision was blurry. I was afraid but I remember God was with me so I was peaceful. I sat in a rocking chair and told them I felt like I was going to faint, and my son and husband came to my aid. They said I should lie down but I was concerned I would fall if I got up. I prayed and God said "Don't worry, you'll be alright". So I got up and let them walk me to the bed. I was unsteady and didn't even know if I would make it. My pulse which is usually between 60 and 70 was up to 130. I just lay there and prayed. Eventually it came back down to 74 and then 61. Thank you for your prayers and God's faithfulness. I am blessed and blessed I remain. Driving to Brooklyn to spend the weekend with my Mom in the morning. So I probably won't have time to read or post but I will be praying for all of you.

Whether you post or quietly petition our fathers heavenly thrown for answered prayers YOU ARE AN IMPORTANT PART OF THIS ANOINTED BODY OF BELIEVERS. 26. Today's devotion about "Refuse to worry! In this world there will always be something enticing you to worry." reminds me of something I was sent a few years ago: I was sent the word, WORRIES! written in red on an otherwise blank sheet of paper. My task was to cut out and cut up the word WORRIES! and then turn those same letters into the WORD, WORSHIP!
I keep and go back to that visual transformation of turning worries into WORSHIP as a reminder, whenever satan entices me to let it worm its way into my mind and my heart with its worries.
Being in WORSHIP mode, richly seasoned with THANKSGIVING, is being in continual communication with Jesus. Whenever Present Awareness of His Presence is filling up our mind with His Light and His Peace, there is no room left for satan, nor its worms.
Praise and Worship Blessings to you, dear JC Family in Jesus Name. Amen.

  31. I just wanted to share an update and praise report with all of you, JC Family. You may remember that my middle son totaled his car when he hit a snow storm while driving home from Missouri a few weeks ago. Thankfully, with all of your prayers, he wasn't hurt. Not a scratch. Praise the Lord! I owe it all to God for watching over my son's trip. I'm so grateful to all of you for your traveling mercy prayers. God is good!

Well, we've been actively shopping for a replacement vehicle with the necessary features that my son needs for his physical disabilities. Again, thank you all for your prayers. God did not disappoint. He provides for what we need, and, indeed, He did just that in a huge way. Today, my son purchased his new vehicle with all the extra safety features that he needs and then some. Not only that, but he qualified for a very low rate on his loan. The dealer even went so far as to deliver the vehicle to his home. All in all, I'm so proud of my son for putting in the work to research what car was best for him. It took patience and effort. A teachable moment for sure. Rejoicing in the Lord for this blessing. We may not know the whys of why things happen the way that they do, but we can be thankful and grateful in ALL circumstances. This is one mom who's doing the happy dance tonight. When we have faith, all things are possible through Christ Jesus! Amen

Sending love and prayers for all of you. God hears our prayers and is faithful to see them through.

    Blessings from California

I have read Jesus Calling for several years now and Sarah Young’s words are truly inspired and inspiring. What strikes me is all of the love, support, and encouragement I read from this group of strangers towards their fellow man. I don’t often post, but I enjoy keeping up with everyone. As I read through the comments, it is common for tears to well up in this old man’s eyes and prayers to be uttered. Thanks to everyone for helping to create an environment that is free from the noise of the world. It is easy to see the fingerprints of God all over this group. We will walk with each other, we will walk side by side
We will work with each other, we will work side by side

    4. Your prayers helped Phil a Shia dear family because God heard them and our prayers. Thank you so much. His will be done.
Our good God in His mercy lifted him up out of his pain and misery and brought him Home. My husband has a broken heart but he knows Phil was done with his suffering in this world. He was ready to go. He had enough pain and it was hurting Sarah and his family to see him suffer. I’m sure they are all relieved that Phil has been released and he’s now in a
perfect peace and a sweet rest that we can only imagine. May God wrap those left behind in His love and comfort, and guide them through their next chapter. Phil is where he should be and he will realize God’s promises.

Romans 8:18 — For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

    6. Dear Jeanne - I'm praying for Phil's family and your dear Rick. Romans 8 says it all and I am thankful that all who love him know they will see him again - whole, healthy, blessed in that new body.

  53. Thank You Lord for the choice; worry or walk by faith. There's no room for both so I reject demonic worry, instead I am determined to walk by faith in You and let You take care of my circumstances. Those who leave everything in God's Hands will eventually see God's Hand in everything.

    2. You're right. Worry steals our joy and is not God's plan at all, it's opposite. It's demonic. I've never thought of it that way, but it is. Asking for His help to release these preoccupations and live the way He designed me to, rejoicing and thanking Him 🙌 what a beautiful Father we have. We can do all things (rejoice, be glad, live without worry, trust Him) through Christ who strengthens us.

  55. My sons are homeschooled. In their science book, they learned recently about the intricate design about some of the rockets that have gone into space. The scientist that was in charge of overseeing the design spoke about how much thought and planning that went into every detail of the rocket. He said that if this much detail was designed into this one human creation, imagine how much intricate design and care went into designing the whole universe by our perfect Creator from the farthest galaxy beyond our sight or reach to the infintessimal molecular proteins dividing our cells with accurate precision also beyond our sight and out of our control. God is in control, He's got you in His hands relentlessly loving you more than anyone can measure. My oldest says 'more than all the atoms in the universe!' <3 My youngest says 'absolute' the highest point it can go. I hope you all are lifted in spirit by His love and are treading over worry like the enemy that it is.

    1. Oh, I loved reading this, free as can B! I just read it to my little 8 yr old Grandson and he so enjoyed it. How old are your two? Our 8 yr old granddaughter (next door) is home schooled and it's amazing the amount she learns...and God is always in the mix! LOVE THAT! <3
