Jesus Calling: April 8

    I AM WITH YOU AND FOR YOU, your constant Companion and Provider.  The question is whether you are with Me and for Me.  Though I never leave you, you can essentially “leave” Me by ignoring Me: thinking or acting as if I am not with you.  When you feel distance in our relationship, you know where the problem lies.  My Love for you is constant; I am the same yesterday today, and forever.  It is you who changes like shifting sand, letting circumstances toss you this way and that.
    When you feel far from Me, whisper My Name.  This simple act, done in childlike faith, opens your heart to My Presence.  Speak to Me in love-tones; prepare to receive My Love, which flows eternally from the cross.  I am delighted when you open yourself to My loving Presence.
Genesis 28:15
English Standard Version
Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land. For I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”

Romans 8:31
English Standard Version
What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

Hebrews 13:8
English Standard Version
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

My Prayer
Lord, it is sad to see people in our world ignore you, thinking and acting like you are not there. I'm saddened when I do this at times. I have opportunities to speak of You in my life and sometimes I don't, out of fear for my own well-being, out of not wanting to stand out, out of not wanting to be different from others. Yet, no matter how I respond, you always remain faithful to me. Lord, help me to simply call on You each day. You are the same yesterday and today and forever. And you always have my back. Thank you for never leaving me. Forgive me for leaving you, at times.

  6. I love how God is not a passive aggressive God. He speaks truth about our relationship and then puts the responsibility on us to be in relationship with Him. I love those direct words to keep reminding me that God is wanting to be known and is much more than I think we have downsized Him to be. I want to keep God alive and powerful through me as I depend on Him!!!

  7. JC Family, I ask for your prayers for my husband. I had to call 911 last night - he got sick and was very disoriented. He has pneumonia, this time in the L lung. He is in a room now and I will keep you posted. Perfect verse: "What then shall we say to these things? "If God is for us, who can be against us?" Ro. 8:31.

  16. Loving Father, Thank You for being with me and for me. I am with You and for You as well and if there’s anything within me or outside of me that is contrary to that, please search me and draw me nearer. You are the Sustainer and Restorer of all things and that includes the things that I can see, those things I don’t see and of course all the things I can’t even imagine. Thank You for a new day to go back in the times leading to my Savior’s sacrifice and exalt Your Holy name!

    Holy Week Treasure Map (Wednesday)The Son of God was betrayed by Judas, Mary perfumed Jesus in prep for what was to come (not understanding what she was doing).

    It was on this day that Judas Iscariot conspired to betray Jesus. The traitor has turned against his friend. What Judas did was absolutely wrong, but before we go pointing finger at him, lets study the scriptures, because when we do, we will begin to identify with him through our own sin, deceit and betrayal. We don’t know Judas’ issues, but we do know that he allowed Satan into his mind to satisfy what was going on inside of it. The end result was taking his own life. , Our own willingness to walk in disobedience and allow the weaknesses of our mind and heart to entertain negative thoughts and emotions, makes us just as susceptible as Judas’ betrayal of Jesus. We could learn a valuable lesson here and strive to lead a godly life free from love of money (Hebrews 13:5).

    As believers, we have a responsibility to learn from this very tragic lesson of Judas Iscariot and be on a vigilant alert over our own souls in order to make sure we don’t fall into the very same traps that brought him down. We should guard ourselves against any false comfort. Yes, we’ve all sinned, whatever we’re guilty of and whatever our shortcomings are, we should be like Paul, repent (1 Timothy 1:13-17) and have our story end well!

    On this same Wednesday, Jesus asked the Pharisees according to Matthew 22:41-42:“What do you think about the Christ”? He directs that same question to us today! What and how we think about Jesus impacts absolutely every aspect of our lives. God awaits for the response to the Invitation! Have you received it?

    Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your gift of forgiveness. As we have been forgiven, may we extend forgiveness to others who have hurt and/or betrayed us. Teach us to “let the peace that comes from Christ rule in our hearts.” (Col. 3:15) and please keep us steadfast even in our fear and uncertainty, so that we may follow where Jesus has led the way. May we not fall in the traps of Satan, but stand up for You in the truth that we know. Thank You for always loving us. Thank You for being the same yesterday, today and forever, in Jesus’ name we pray.

    Blessings and Peace to All!

  17. Another devotion that could have been written regarding today's situation. I so enjoyed reading yesterday's posts but had no time to write. Work is non-stop - so much fear. Lord, let me be Your Light to them.
    In the midst of all of the work, we received a call that my husband's sister was taken to the hospital with pneumonia. Then I read that this time last year it was him, we were praying for during his 2nd bout with pneumonia! His sister just wants to go home. Please pray for her peace with me.
    Thank you for all of the wonderful posts yesterday. Between calls, I would hop over to my other computer and read and be filled with renewed hope and wisdom - such as the 80+ year old man's encouragement to not try to swim against the current! And your Holy Week sharing, Bob - what a blessing. All of you mean so much and you are in my prayers. I will again, read throughout the day as I remember, if God be for us, who can be against us? No one! Nothing!

  19. Thank you so much Maplewood for filling my spirit today. Amen. We are all sinners and have many shortcomings. Each day we must choose to please Him instead of ourselves. If we belong to Christ we must reflect that through our words, thoughts, and actions. We must rid our hearts and minds of the human emotions that drag us away from Him, so his peace can rule in our hearts. Let us choose to obey and follow hard after righteousness. Forgive those who have wronged us, cast anger, envy, greed and pride away, and come to his throne in true holiness. This is a time of reflection, repentence and renewal. Especially now when we need God's saving power to cleanse the world of this virus, protect those who serve us, heal those who are suffering and comfort those in mourning, pray without ceasing.

  20. WEDNESDAY OF HOLY WEEK

    "Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me." (Psalm 51:10)

    (Looking into the mirror for signs of Judas.)

    (Matthew 26:14-25) "I am really getting tired of waiting for Jesus to go into action. I can only take so much of this showing love to broken people. He needs to get on with it. I wonder if I could force His hand? If I could put Him in a position where He has to begin the revolution to rid Jerusalem of the Romans. Yes, that might work. If I could tip the religious leaders about His whereabouts, they could send some soldiers and guards to arrest Him and He then will have to fight. Further, I could use a little extra cash flow. I have some habits that I like to indulge secretly but they require money. So, if I can get some cash for this, all the better. I will sneak off when no one is looking and look for an opportunity to talk with the religious leaders. I do and they are willing to pay me 30 pieces of silver to betray Him. This is going better than I could have imagined, the revolution will get started and I am getting rich. The best part is I have done this all so well no one will know. So I take the money and work my way back into the company of Jesus and the disciples all the while trying to come up with a way that they can come after Jesus. I know what I will do. Whenever we have observed the Passover in previous years, Jesus always likes to go to this garden called Gethsemane to reflect and pray on the whole experience of Passover. It will be no different this time plus it is dark at that time which should be to our advantage when confronted by those sent out to arrest Him. So I will get word to the religious leaders about this so they can plan accordingly. This is all working out so perfectly and secretly. But then comes the Passover meal and in the midst of it, Jesus says, "One of you will betray me." I look at the others, everyone is looking into themselves wondering if they are the one He is talking about. No one suspects me but how does He know that a betrayal is in the works? I will keep a low profile so as to not tip my hand. He goes on to respond to the question of who by saying, "It is the one who has dipped his hand in the bowl of haroseth with me." My eyes dart back and forth at the others. Did anyone see me dip in the same bowl as Jesus? Does He know it is me? How could He know, I did everything so secretly? It is not possible for Him to know for I was alone the whole time in the dark of night. Yet He does know something. I'll ask Him in a sly way to see if He knows it is me. "Surely not I, Rabbi?" He looks into my eyes where nothing can be hidden. He peers into my soul and sees my evil intentions. Quietly and yet still tenderly He says to me, "You have said so." He knows. I need to leave before He tells the others it is me. I flee the room with a sick feeling inside of me. But I must betray Him for the sake of the revolution... and my pocketbook.

    As is portrayed in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3), people who sin go to great lengths to hide it. Is it any different for any of us. We hide what we do or we rationalize what we do for good. Both are forms of hiding from reality. Judas does both so well, he even convinces himself he is safe. Does anyone see in them self any shades of Judas? I do and it is painful to admit. There is but one recourse: Lord, have mercy; Christ have mercy; Lord, have mercy. The good news is He does.

    Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me. Cleanse me from the shades of Judas that exist within me. Only You can do this, only You can take all my sinful intentions and rid me of them. Lord, have mercy. Amen

There is a store near me that when you place an online order, you go to their parking lot, call them and they will bring your items right to the car, saving you from the potential of picking up the virus in their store. The person that greeted me at the car, wore gloves, a hood, and a clear plastic face shield. This shield “of protection “ made me think of the song , Thou O Lord are a Shield About Me. 23. EASTER THURSDAY

    ROAD TO EMMAUS (Luke 24:13-35)

    Fr Sebastian White reports in his editorial in the Magnificat that of all the sites in scripture, the hardest site to pin down is Emmaus. There are six good suggestions but none are conclusive. Fr. White goes on to share the words of Pope Benedict XVI, “ our difficulty in discovering the historical location of Emmaus may actually be a providential invitation to realize its deeper significance: namely, that Emmaus actually represents every place. The road that leads there is the road every Christian, every person, takes. The risen Jesus makes Himself our traveling companion as we go on our way, to rekindle the warmth of faith and hope in our hearts and to break the bread of eternal life.”

    Pope Benedict XVI goes on to say, “ ‘We were hoping’, this verb in the past tense tells all, we believed, we followed, we hoped. But now everything is over. Even Jesus of Nazareth, who had shown Himself in His words and actions to be a powerful prophet, has failed, and we are left disappointed. It seems that the hope of faith has failed. Faith itself enters a crisis because of negative experiences that make us feel abandoned and betrayed even by the Lord.”

    We have all felt this at some time or another but if we would think back on those times, were they not due to our having God all figured out on what God was doing as the two disciples on the road to Emmaus had done? Let us seek the Spirit’s warming of our hearts by letting the scriptures speak to us rather than telling the scriptures what we want them to say. Let us always seek our Lord in the spirit of praise and thanksgiving that is the true worship Jesus was speaking of in John 4. In worship, let us receive the Eucharist where we ultimately enter into intimacy with Him. Yes, Benedict XVI has spoken well, we all walk the road Emmaus, the walk of faith.

    And what became of those two unnamed disciples? That is for each of us to discover as our journey continues. Word of caution, don’t travel alone; that’s why we are here. God be with us. With love, Bob

  25. JC friends: My wife arrived just after lunch and actually it was about as sweet a reunion as we have ever had. Emotional in that I've done really incredibly well and also that 2 weeks earlier we had the slight possibility that it could be a final embrace. It was as Norah's described "glistening" in the eyes as we engaged in a warm exaggerated hug upon meeting. Felt similar to my Navy days after being gone for 6 months overseas. It was good to be a "couple" in the same geography again.

    I read Bob's thoughts about Emmaus and believe that the road is truly the road we're on, or any road we take with another to spread the word of God. My wife and I went thru a discharge meeting with her to take over at home. If one has no one to care for them the next 2 weeks post transplant, more than likely you'd have stayed another 10-14 days in the hospital, as MM transplant patients are still very immunocompromised. We live several hours drive time from Emory and so of course we chatted nearly the entire drive home. I now have had my decision to marry her crystallized into how much we have been and are a team in our past life, with family, and the new future altered goals for each other and Christ that we now need to embrace. To Bob's theme, together, she and I are on the Road to Emmaus, and that's for however long we can be the team He desires and needs us to be.

    Update. I was in the hospital exactly 2 weeks, almost to the minute. The first 7 days were rather uneventful but the next 7 were a rollercoaster of adjustments to meds and dealing with nausea and gastro issues that for me were not too bad but for most is a cycle of pain that you wish could be over. My Day 12 and 13 blood work data showed that engraftment had occurred and it was amazing how fast you then recover and can really feel like "you're back" to a new normal.

    From Madfox's entire family, who are aware of my musings here, a heartfelt thank you again for your prayers and too kind words. I'm just a guy who has finally realized all I need to do is extend my arm and grip The Almighty's right hand. Let Him lead and then I must be the Light in every room with positivity and a faith that none cannot see.  Godspeed, Amen.

  27. Thank you all for your prayers, support and encouragment. I have such good news to share. Yesterday my third grandson was born. My daughter in love had a smooth delivery, thank God, of a large (8 pounds, 5 ounces) healthy, perfect and beautiful baby boy. His name is Lucas Alexander and we are just thrilled. May God always bless and guide him even though he is not getting baptized. I continue to pray that someday Lucas, his big brother and Mom and Dad will all come to Christ. I am so thankful for One More Blessing. God has been so very good to me and my dear family. Rejoice with me and be glad in this new day.

I was so busy today in the kitchen and had my family over for dinner and I had to pick my daughter in love and Gabriel up (Not the one that just gave birth) because my son Greg got very sick after having the Johnson and Johnson vaccine. He had the chills, fever, headache and muscle aches. My dear Mayra and little Gabriel made homemade pizzas with me and we had a nice dinner which Greg will eat for lunch tomorrow. Then I gave Gabriel a bath and put his pajamas on and drove them home. I saw Greg and he didn't look good but I pray he will be better tomorrow. Thank you so much for your prayers especially for Lucas and his family's salvation. I love you all. Don't have time to read everything and I'm going to Brooklyn in the morning to visit my Mom for the weekend. I just made two frittatas to bring. But I am blessed by this sweet little baby so much. Amen dear JJ! What a gift he is to ALL!!!! Your post blessed my heart and dear sisters and brothers, all of your posts and prayers mean so much to me. Thank you! I'll be praying for you all.

  28. My Companion and my Father, Thank You for the gift of another day, Your loving kindness and tender mercy already bestowed upon me even before I opened my eyes this morning. You sent your Son on this earth to die on that cross for all of my sins. Even before I knew You, You knew me and You loved me. And on that cross, Jesus died for my sins. On the third day, You raised him from the dead. He is my Lord and my Savior and I thank You Father, that all my sins are forgiven, past, present, and future. Thank You for first loving me the way You do, I love You right back and give You all the praise and thanks for Jesus my Savior. Amen.

    For some people, the Holy Spirit seems difficult to understand or know personally, but the truth is, if we are paying attention, we will realize that He is all around us as our constant companion. We are to visualize the Holy Spirit the same way we visualize Jesus. God is the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and all three are of the same essence.
    When Jesus was preparing to leave His disciples on His way to the cross, He reassured them and comforted them by saying, “I will come to you” (John 14:18), “And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby), that He may remain with you forever” (John 14:16).
    In a nutshell He was saying, I will never leave You without help, and because the Holy Spirit is our constant companion, we are never alone in this life even when we sometimes feel alone and lacking meaning in our lives.
    Having the Father, Son and Holy Spirit as our companion, fills every crevice of our being and add meaning to every blessed day. Whenever we feel empty and alone, let’s remember that God fills the aching vacuum with His majestic Power. When the burden is heavy, He is there to lean on. He is closer than we know. Our security is in His promise, not only to His disciples, but to all of God’s children! This same Spirit is our Encourager and He is the same kind as the First, meaning Jesus was the First and He will lead us into all truth about God.
    We do not see God with our physical eyesight, but with the eyes of faith, for "we walk by faith, not by sight" (2 Corinthians 5:6-7). The Apostle Paul said those who have the Spirit living in their lives also have Christ living within them (In Romans 8:10). As we pray to God on a daily basis and spend time drinking in of His Word, our faith strengthens and allows us to overcome our own carnal nature. Jesus's death bought freedom for everyone who believes. He freed us from sin and condemnation, from the evil powers of the ages and from the same mentality of the many Jews Paul preached to. When we picture Jesus with us, we are holding on to biblical truth and our sanctified imagination becomes far more in touch with reality than our often preoccupied minds. Therefore, we should never cease to praise God for the One who is our Helper and Companion!

    Loving Father, Thank You that Your love for us is so vast that we cannot fully fathom its extent (Ephesians 3:14-19). Thank You that Your love is constant, unchanging and eternal.
    We praise You for Your consistency and thank You that even though we are so incapable of being consistently loving and righteous, You remain the same yesterday, today and forever. Everything that would condemn us before You, was placed upon Jesus on that old rugged cross. Please forgive us for all of our inconsistencies, and help us through the power of Your Holy Spirit to know that because Your love for us is so great and powerful, it convicts us of our righteousness in Christ Jesus. Thank You that we are totally and completely righteous in Your sight, not by our works, but by the shed blood of Jesus on Calvary Cross! You are always loving Father, and for that we give You thanks in the name of Jesus. Amen.

    Blessings and Peace.

And the day will come when we will be with Him face to face, fully renewed by His Glory, as it was His perfect plan from the beginning, to live with us just as He lived with Adam and Eve before the fall.

  30. Last year, the slippery slope of losing touch with our Father lead me down to a terrible place. But with His merciful grace he pulled me out and back into his loving arms. To be honest, not keeping God at my side is the most dangerous I can do to my soul. I really am dependent on Him in all His power. Amd I'm grateful every single day that he used that terrible time as a way to teach me that fact. I didn't deserve His grace or His mercy, yet here we are. In all my weakness, HE made me strong. 2. Welcome back Tay. Sometimes God allows us to absolutely fall to the lowest possible place because He wants us to lose everything so we will gain HIM. Unfortunately for many people, being in the lowest place is the only way they can seek Him because all else is lost. God allowed David to backslide to the point of almost losing his faith and when he had lost everything and his city was burned down and his two wives were taken away, and even his own men were against him, he finally turned back to the Lord for strength and guidance. We often fall off the right road and sometimes walk quite a distance on the wrong road before turning back or looking up.
      So happy and thankful that our good and loving Father brought you back, even if you had to experience that terrible place to get to where you are now with us, dear sister. Halleluia!

I didn’t want her to hurt her bad knees so I carried it to the car and then on the long ride fo my Mom’s my right shoulder blade really hurt. When we got to my Mom’s Janet asked if I could carry her bag out of the car into the house and up the big flight of stairs to her room. I said okay and did my best. I asked her how many bodies were in the bag because it was so heavy. Anyway, that pain is in my shoulder blade and I’m praying it will feel better. Must drive back home at 10. Rick and I are going to Boston for our grandson’s 1st Birthday on Saturday morning. Then driving back home Sunday. I’m supposed to drive back to Brooklyn on Sunday so I can take Janet for her second knee injections on Monday. God is my strength and my song. Praying the injections help her more than the first ones. My Mom is doing well except that she insisted on eating my eggplant parm even though we said it was well over a week old. She is the most stubborn person I know. No wonder she’s always in the bathroom. But for the grace of God..🙏

This promise was made to Jacob who really wasnt the most upright person in the Bible, he had made several mistakes ....but God...But God didnt give up on him ! God looks at our hearts amen God saw beyond his flesh and into something within his heart: a contrite, broken spirit. God knew that something in Jacob's heart was willing to be changed. That is exactly what God is looking for in us. He looks for a broken, contrite heart that he can work on. I had shivers when I read this

  39. This devotion really hit home, especially this:
    My Love for you is constant; I am the same yesterday today, and forever. It is you who changes like shifting sand, letting circumstances toss you this way and that.
    I want to be like Paul, content in all circumstances, putting the Lord first no matter what is going on in my day. I do whisper His Holy Name often in my day just to bring Him to the forefront of my mind. Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, I trust in You.
    I have seen His faithfulness so often in my life so I will just keep thanking Him and praising Him. May He heal all of your weaknesses, whether they be in your mind, body or spirit. He knows what area of your life needs His healing and molding. Rejoice in Him always and meditate on only those things that draw you closer to Him and that please Him.

    Philippians 4:4-9
    Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!
    Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.
    Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
    Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.

    Traveling back and forth to Boston today to celebrate our dear grandson's 2nd Birthday. Lucas is such a cute and happy boy, and his big brother Leo who is almost 4 is adorable too. I pray that their family someday accepts Jesus as their Savior and that someday my daughter in law will want a relationship with me. She did hug me the last time when we were leaving and that is an answer to my prayer. I know my son Dylan loves me and he must see the Christ in me even though he claims not to believe anymore. All of this is in God's Hands. So I will continue to rest in the peace and joy in believing. Be blessed that we serve a Risen Lord! May God give you all traveling mercies, peace, healing, protection, joy, love, and a strength of faith that never wavers, even when the ground below you is shaking. Much love dear JC Family!

  44. JC Warriors, I went to the funeral of the lady's husband (Jim) that I'm caring for, yesterday. It was a celebration of life funeral and it was the best funeral I've ever been to. I know that sounds crazy but I was so filled with joy and the "believing" that heaven is rejoicing as we are mourning. It's hard to explain but it was a wonderful experience. While we miss those loved ones that aren't here with us anymore, they are home now and at perfect peace. God bless 🙏.

    1. Thanks Janet! I really do understand and I am happy my cousin is Home now and there is no more pain. His family felt the same way but they miss him as we all will. We know our joy will be complete when we're called Home and we will be with Jesus and understand everything by and by.

  46. I need prayer today in a special way. I am always giving, doing and praying for others. I am drained and I feel used. I am not bitter I am broken. Broken from people who continually take advantage of my love and don’t reciprocate. Please pray for me to have discipline, discernment and assertiveness of when to help and when to back off. Right now my need is to go away like Jesus did alone to pray. It’s like the song “It’s me it’s me oh Lord standing in the need of prayer”
    1 Not my brother, not my sister, but it's me, O Lord,
    Standin' in the need of prayer;
    Not my brother, not my sister, but it's me, O Lord,
    Standin' in the need of prayer.
    Refrain:
    It's me, it's me, O Lord,
    Standin' in the need of prayer;
    It's me, it's me, O Lord,
    Standin' in the need of prayer.
    2 Not the preacher, not the deacon, but it's me, O Lord,
    Standin' in the need of prayer;
    Not the preacher, not the deacon, but it's me, O Lord,
    Standin' in the need of prayer. [Refrain]
    3 Not my father, not my mother, but it's me, O Lord,
    Standin' in the need of prayer;
    Not my father, not my mother, but it's me, O Lord,
    Standin' in the need of prayer. [Refrain]
    4 Not the stranger, not my neighbor, but it's me, O Lord,
    Standin' in the need of prayer;
    Not the stranger, not my neighbor, but it's me, O Lord,
    Standin' in the need of prayer.

    🙏 🙏Please help me Jesus… in Your Powerful Name I pray amen 🙏

    5. God has blessed me with an empathetic heart for helping others. Sometimes, however, I overstep those bounds. I pray for discernment in hearing His voice. “For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.”
      ‭‭Galatians‬ ‭1‬:‭10‬ ‭ESV‬‬

    6. Good questions there about who we are serving, and why.
      Jesus gave unconditionally, and not one of us is perfect like HE. You can't earn your way to Heaven with works. Just do our best to love others as Jesus did. ✌️🙏✝️

    7. Dear Anonymous, Praying for God to make a Way for you to get the rest you need and to feel like you are serving Him instead of other people who seem to be taking advantage of your beautiful and generous heart. Remember God doesn't want us to get weary from well doing. He wants us to stop and know that He is God, the One who restores and refreshes us. I have felt the same way as you. Because I bake Birthday cakes for so many people and try to make their lives better but because I'm up late doing things for others, sometimes I burn my candle on both ends. And then I get tired and cranky. I want to be well rested and a blessing to God and to others. God knows how I feel and how you feel. He is the One that can make things right for you. You need to be taken care of in the same way you take care of others. Audra, that is great advice. We must just love others as Jesus did, but we must make sure we don't get too weary because we can't serve Jesus well when we're exhausted. On that note, I'm going to sleep. Rest well, dear ones. God is on the Night Watch.
