Jesus Calling: April 22

Listen to Me continually. I have much to communicate to you, so many people and situations in need of prayer. I am training you to set your mind on Me more and more, tuning out distractions through the help of My Spirit.
Walk with Me in holy trust, responding to My initiatives rather than trying to make things fit your plans. I died to set you free, and that includes freedom from compulsive planning. When your mind spins with a multitude of thoughts, you cannot hear My voice. A mind preoccupied with planning pays homage to the idol of control. Turn from this idolatry back to Me. Listen to Me and live abundantly!

John 8:36
English Standard Version
So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

Proverbs 19:21
English Standard Version
Many are the plans in the mind of a man,
but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.

Verse Thoughts - It is apparent that man is constantly believing and thinking that he is in control of his outcomes and the matters of this world. Man wants to believe over and over that he can will God to change and that man's will and knowledge of events is the greatest. We want the easy path and we want worldly prosperity. We really want "my will be done." These are our plans. Although we may make many and varied plans, these plans will only come to fruition if they reflect our Creator's purpose: "it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand." This is such a hard truth because we think that we are the reasons we are such successful people with no wants or needs. We have become so good at making money and doing things in such a way that we have so few wants or needs. Generally, what upsets us is illness or disease. We have walked through life getting what we want, but then something happens that is an unknown and it sends us to God to ask for help. And yet, God wants to show us that asking Him for help is where we need to be all the time.

John 10:27
English Standard Version
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

My Prayer (2016)
Lord, teach me to listen more. I get so busy doing and going and doing, that I don't take the time to be quiet. I don't give you a chance to speak to me. Help me slow down and listen. I wonder if you are wanting to do things in my life, but I am to busy to listen?

    1. #METOO, Unknown. Major speed bumps for me were:
Walk with Me in holy trust, responding to My initiatives rather than trying to make ME fit MY Grand things into your miniscule plans, and,
A mind preoccupied with planning pays homage to the idol of control.
Reality Check: I can only turn on a light bulb; He can lft up an amazingly Great Ball of Sonshine 🌞. Everyday. The sun lives in the heavens where God placed it and moves out across the skies as radiant as a bridegroom going to his wedding, or as joyous as an athlete looking forward to a race! The sun crosses the heavens from end to end, everyday, exposing everything to its warmth. As Sassy Mom's DH says, God is truly in control and you just can't beat that! In all honesty, No, I can't beat that, so I pray His Holy Spirit helps me to stop trying to. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

Loved this devotion and it spoke to me. As I begin my trip to Boston I am not making any plans, but going with the flow in the presence of the Lord and in His peace. The Spirit will give me the words to speak. I know most of my family are not Believers so I will just let my light shine before them and do my best to be humble and peaceful. I will just love them with the love God has given me.

    5. Amen, Jeanne! I just returned from a similar family visit (no baby, but wedding planning). I take today's reading to heart. The trip went well, not without some tense conversations, but surrendering and listening and calling upon the holy spirit instead of imposing and telling helped keep a loving atmosphere. Leaving was hard as I wanted so much more depth but had to compete with the darn cell phone always in their hands. May the spirit of God rest upon them, and may they come to know Him. Traveling mercies to you! ♥️

  6. As I was reading todays JC entry, I was reminded of a time when I was at a retreat. I almost didn't go to this retreat as I had many things to get ready for work. I decided to go with the condition that I could have my own room so I could work on my computer in between speakers. As I was praying one morning I heard a voice say, "come walk with me!" Having not experienced this kind of thing, I kind of ignored it. Then 2 times more, I heard a voice saying, "Come walk with me!" I thought of the story of Eli and thought this must be the Lord. I said,'Okay Lord, I'll come walk with you". But what did that mean? The retreat was by a beautiful lake that was surrounded by a forest with pathways. I headed down to the lake and pictured the Lord and I walking around the lake only to find that the entry to the lake was closed. I thought perhaps the Lord wants me to walk with Him in the forest? As I began on this walk, it became very windy and cold and I without a jacket decided that I would go back to my room to warm up. That is when I picked up my Jesus Calling devotional and began readying April 22nd's entry. What's it say? Come walk with me in holy trust! I couldn't believe the words! I began weeping and felt God had answered how I should walk with Him. Not only that but I was convicted that it is not my plans that were important, but the Lords. Trusting is not always easy, but the Lord has pointed out as He promises to walk with me, that with Him in control, I am on the right path.

  12. God is just waiting for us to let go of everything, and come to Him in stillness and trust. When we pray, we speak to him, usually asking Him for His help and His healing. But when we shut all else out and sit with him, that is when He speaks to us. His words speak to our heart: I am your God, do not be afraid. Or, I understand what you're going through and I am here beside you. Our peace comes from knowing that He understands our deepest longings, insecurities and fears. We must surrender to His will if we are to remain in His peace. He is in charge. Today, I will try very hard to remain in His sweet Presence and incline my ear to His voice. My peace and strength is from the Lord. I look forward to seeing how my steps will be established.

    2. Brilimar, I'm sorry I didn't see this till now. But when I am very still and opening my heart to God, He tells me that He understands how I feel and asks me just to trust Him. I do not hear a loud voice, No. More like a tiny whisper. I hear Him in sweet stirrings inside me comforting my heart. When I say my steps are established, He puts the people who need me in front of me, and connects me to those who need the words that His Spirit guides me to say. We get up each morning, and after thanking God for the day, we plan what we will do and more often than not, God will guide someone to call out in need and change our plans. He did that today. I had a message from a Facebook friend who is a Pastor in Haiti. He needed to talk about his situation. We talked about our faith first and then he told me that his father had died leaving his mother to care for 9 children by herself. There was no food on their table and they were fasting and praying. I was messaging him for an hour. I told him God knew he was suffering and knew all his needs. God is a discerner of hearts and knows all about us. I comforted and encouraged him as best I could, and I said faith is active. No matter what the circumstances are, He must get up in gratitude for the new day, and do his best to search for God's light on his path and guiding hand. We all must look for his help in our day. His light and help are in the darkest and scariest day. He will send you people to lift and help too. This is how God changes the direction of our day to accomplish his will.

  13. OH MY GOD! Yesterday, I heard His Voice as I was clearing out my home and my life while trying to get something positive from this Pandemic Quarantine situation. I came across a beautiful Heirloom Book of instruction for sewing baby clothes. As I was leafing through its pages, The Voice continued to repeat the name, Joanie, Joanie, Joanie. Later that day, I was going to pick up curbside groceries near Joanie's house. Because The Voice was so strong, I put the book in my vehicle. Practicing Social Distance, I left the book at the foot of her driveway. Later that evening she and her husband called to ask me why I left that particular book. I told them about The Voice and they excitedly shared that their granddaughter had just called them to say she was going to have a baby! Joanie was elated that the book The Voice told me to leave would allow her to make beautiful items for her great grandbaby with all the time she now has while in quarantine! Then today, I read JC. Thank You Lord! I want and need your help to be still, know You Are God, and LISTEN for and listen to Your Voice! In Jesus' Name. Amen. Thank You for the time to do so and making all things work together for good, including this quarantine time.

Amen He sure does make all things work together for good at all times.

  15. WEDNESDAY OF THE SECOND WEEK OF EASTER

(John 3:16-21) As this conversation with Nicodemus is drawing to a close, Jesus summarized all that He had said with words that would resonate through the ages and all eternity. After making a reference to His death, 'so the Son of Man be lifted up' (vs. 15), He went on to say, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him may not perish but may have eternal life. Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through Him." These were words that none of us would comprehend until after His death on the cross. But after the cross, we realized the eternal significance of what He was saying.

For God - here comes the reason for the lifting up of the Son of Man (in vs. 15) and God chose to do it.
So loved - not just loved, sooooo loved, maxed out His love
The World - there is not a single person whom God does not love. Though there may be people we do not love and therefore we may have a tendency to think God is that way, God is not a human being. God loves everyone whether, in our estimation, they should be loved or not.
That He gave His only Son - Love at its maximum. More precious to us than our own life is our children's lives. It is the ultimate sacrifice of love. God has never asked His people to practice child sacrifice to prove their love for Him as some religions have done, yet He did that to prove His love for us.
So that everyone who believes - the ball is now in our court to respond to this act. To believe contains the connotation of embracing within the heart. We have a tendency to think believing is a head trip; quite to the contrary, it is a heart trip. That which is held dear in the heart is how one lives life
May not perish but may have eternal life - Too often people think eternal life is something to come in the future but if it is eternal, it has no beginning, it has no end. John in his gospel uses the term to signify 'life to the fullest lived in love of God'. It is the abundant life of John 10:10. It is and by believing we cease to choose the ways of narrow mindedness and a shuttered heart, the ways of sinful habits, and the ways of self-will. Instead, we now choose the way of love, the way of life without end. It is everything the JC readings call us to.
Vs. 17 goes on to make clear our God is not a retributive God who seeks vengeance for our sins; no, God is a redemptive God who so loves us, He wants to return us to Himself. But in order to redeem anything, a price needs to be paid. And He paid it in His own Son thus we ARE redeemed. Embrace your redemption, live in it, look forward to the time when it will be fulfilled in the Kingdom of God.

A suggested exercise: Pray through John 3:16-17 word by word as I broke it down above. Do not hurry this but repeat each phrase until you start feeling it within. One of the purposes of prayer is to seal to the heart a truth and of course, this is the greatest truth of all.

God be with you. With love, Bob

    2. Wonderful exercise Bob! Thank you so much. I choose the way of love, the way of life without end, the line that goes forever.

16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

When we communicate with You through prayer, You Work on our behalf. Thank You! Teach us to stay on the path of the 2-way conversation that will open up deeper relationship with You, mutual love, caring, respect, peace and joy! Most importantly, Thank You Father, for hearing our hearts more than our words! Thank You for the Holy Spirit that intercedes for us when we don’t know: What to pray, How to pray and We need to pray! May we enter into true and real honest communication with You each time we humble ourselves in prayer. Thank You for giving us HOPE! Thank You for Faith and pray-ers, Jeanne, Janet, Waiting, TJ, JE, JJ, Ellen, Audra, Jan Gridley, NJS, Grace Takes Time, Amanda, Tay and all others. You know how much reading and praying and listening to Christian Music while waiting helps to comfort my soul and helped steady me and my brother Keith. Thank You for Dr Alton who kindly and thoroughly explained my brother's test results and thank you that my heart could be at peace as I listened to how aggressive the cancer has become as his PSA went from 40 to 60 during the last two weeks. I know Your Thoughts and Your Ways are higher than ours, and that You know well the plans You Have. Not my plan, but Thy Plan Be Done. In one week, we will return for Keith's first injection. Please let it work to stop or reduce the spread with little or no side effects. O! For The Peace of a perfect trust, our Loving God in Thee. I ask. I seek. I knock. I praise. I thank. Thy Will Be Done In Jesus Name. Amen.

    3. Brie, God has you and your brother in His palm and with a perfect plan for healing and wholeness. He will be well. My brother in law had a similar PSA and this was completely turned around with a hormone treatment. I ask God for this as I ask God to guide the specialists at Mayo for my daughters tumor board review today. As JJ said in her beautiful prayer...May the doctors see them standing in divine health.

    4. Father, we need your help right now to stop the spread of Keith’s cancer. The test results were not what we were praying for but You already knew them. But we trust that You are mighty to save and we are gathered together asking You to destroy every cancer cell in his body. May he tolerate his first injection well and amaze the doctors with his improvement. We believe you are already healing him. Comfort and guide both Keith and our sweet sister Brie. Thank you in the powerful Name of Christ Jesus.

Additionally Dr Alton's provided us with direction, answers, and options. He listened, he observed, he heard us with much compassion. We now have next steps that were completely unknown to us 3 days ago. We are so blessed to have Him, Dr Alton, and all of you ❤ in our lives, praying us through. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

    9. At the end of March, Dr Alton has left the city and moved to Minnesota, which is totally out of reach for us. In his kindness he called to tell us ahead of time, and he took the time to call another urologist, to get Keith an appointment when the new Dr was not accepting new patient appointments for months into the future. Dr Alton said he did not want Keith to fall through the cracks since the timely injections were working and he would not be here when the next one was due in April this year. Please continue to keep Dr Alton, and the new Dr in your prayers, along with all Physicians and medical personnel. May they rise up to the level of God, transfusing us with knowledge, compassion and the goodness of God. In Jesus' Name. AMEN!

  23. Ephesians 2:10 “For we are His creation, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time so that we should walk in them.”

This morning, I give thanks to You oh Lord with a grateful heart and I give thanks to You the Holy One, because You’ve given Jesus Christ Your Son. I know that one of the most important lessons I can learn is how to listen to You, because listening to You is essential to walking with You. In this complex, hurried, busy world, there is nothing more urgent, nothing more necessary and nothing more rewarding than hearing what You have to say. I know You speak to me for my benefit and I ask that Holy Spirit help me to respond in total obedience for the sake of my eternal soul. This is my prayer in Jesus’ name. Amen.

We give thanks to God for speaking not only in general and absolute terms, but to each of us personally. He is our infinite God who is fully capable of communicating with all His children, in very personal manner, right where we are, in the midst of our circumstances and in explicit and direct terms. Everything in the Word of God applies to our lives in so many ways. All communication based on His Word carries truth that is meant for us.
He expects us to respond to His voice, heed His Word and act on it. God's desire for us to listen to Him, so we might live with great joy and strength. His Word is for our transformation, and listening/reading and applying it, spares us pain! (Psalm 81:1, Psalm 139:1-24, Ex. 31:18, Josh. 7:1-13 and James 5:15, 16).

Here Are Some Great Quotes regarding Walking With God:

    “I’m here, Let’s walk together.” – GOD
“Those who walk with God, always reach their destination.” ― HENRY FORD
“If I walk with the world, I can’t walk with God.” DWIGHT L. MOODY
“God’s mighty power comes when God’s people learn to walk with God.” JACK HYLES
“Walking with God doesn’t lead to God’s favor; God’s favor leads to walking with God.” — TULLIAN TCHIVIDJIAN
“Smart men walked on the moon, daring men walked on the ocean floor, but wise men walk with God.” LEONARD RAVENHILL

    Blessings and Peace.

  28. I received a text earlier today from a friend. This is what it said:
I heard the spirit say "pray for Keith right now that he may hear something profound."
So today I have had my antenna up more than usual.

After I read the text, I prayed that as much as I love His voice, all I need is a continued growth in the awareness of His love for me. With that being said, I have noticed that God often speaks in unexpected ways and at unexpected times. Whatever He wants to say, whether simple or profound, subtle or loud, I welcome. Also any means He wants to speak, in my heart, in my ears, in my head, through nature, or through a person, is welcome.

Yesterday on the local news, I saw a picture of cherry trees at the St. Paul Como Park Conservatory. The cherry blossoms were blooming beautifully as the warm weather is bringing the leaves to Minnesota early this year. As I was getting ready for bed I also noticed a profound thankfulness beginning to bloom in my heart for His love for me as begin to get in touch with it more as He continues His perfect work in me.

Any that are inclined to join my friend in prayer are welcome. Also, the timing has not been right to share the exciting news I spoke of in January. I have not forgotten to share, its just the time to share has not come.

Blessings and profound peace (even in the midst of worry) to you all.

    SUDDENLY CAME!
I Decree and Declare that it is your turn, JCFAMILY, to SUDDENLY receive DIVINE intervention and provision in areas that you waited for so long. GOD WILL SHOW UP in your life. I thank you Father God, that you are the same God yesterday, today and forever. I thank you Father, that no matter what this JCFAMILY'S situations may look like, no matter how impossible they may seem, You are the God whom nothing is impossible. Father, no matter what stands against this Nation, the Nations
of this world or what stands against the precious souls of this JCFAMILY, You
are the Avenger! I ask for retroactively restoring to them what rightfully belongs to them in Jesus' name. I ask for Freedom, Soundness, Wholeness. I ask for restoration of Joy, Peace, Health and Healing. Father God, You are the Waymaker and Jesus' name is above EVERY name. You have given us Authority and I thank you that Authority lives in each of us. I thank you that the resurrection power that's is on the inside of each one of us is destroying everything that was designed
against each one of our bodies and our families. When the enemy comes in, You, Heavenly Father, have already set up their defeat. I Decree and Declare wholeness to each one this hour and in this time. In Jesus' name, Lord of lords, and King of kings, I pray and believe, AMEN and AMEN. JJ

However, she is eating some now on her own and has gained weight. Please pray for her she is really downcast and distraught about this news. Pray God’s peace over her and continued strength for her journey. She was crying last night and I could just sense her complete weariness with this disease. It breaks my heart that I cannot fix this. Pray for me and her dad as we try to comfort her that the Holy Spirit will guide us in all of our words to her. Thank-you all! ♥️💔🙏

  34. John 8:36 "So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed."
Amen! God is dealing with the planning: a lifetime of working things out on advance both professionally and personally, to ensure success and to make contingencies where things could go wrong. I no longer have that compulsion. My days mostly now are "Ok, Lord, over to You, guide my day for your purposes, Your will, not mine be done." Some spontaneity has resulted, culminating in an hour of witnessing to a couple at the beach, who's lives I sensed the Holy Spirit was working in.
However I still have the "If Only's". Which I have to guard against when my mind is in neutral and it plays out various scenarios. This is a form of 'wishful planning'. Having lived in many countries, one in particular keeps resurfacing in the thoughts of my wife and I and we kept saying "If only we could go back". ( We know the Lord is sending several couples as missionaries there). Thankfully we both agreed to 'let it go'. The moment we did I felt instant relief and peace. Thank You Lord.
So now, as they come to mind I'm intent on letting go of the "If Only's"; they're not just a mind merry-go-round trap but a robber of peace too. 'So Lord Jesus, help me, please set me free of the "If Only's", and I shall be free indeed. Amen.

    1. Test in Him who loves you and your DH. Take it day by day in God’s presence and peace. I have been lifting you both in prayer and I believe all will be well because God is in charge. He stands by His Word and His promises are reliable.

      Psalm 9:9-10
“The LORD is a stronghold for the oppressed,
a stronghold in times of trouble.
And those who know your name put their trust in you,
for you, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek you.”

      Psalm 18:6
      “In my distress I called upon the LORD;
to my God I cried for help.
From his temple he heard my voice,
and my cry to him reached his ears

  40. The last couple of sentences in today's verse thoughts is so true, "Generally, what upsets us is illness or disease. We have walked through life getting what we want, but then something happens that is an unknown and it sends us to God to ask for help. And yet, God wants to show us that asking Him for help is where we need to be ALL THE TIME."
I had my almost 4 yr old granddaughter, Rooney, this weekend (it was so awesome!) and we had some great conversations about God and Jesus and that "we can talk to God about ANYTHING, Roo!" It was a great reminder for me as well. Oh, to hear it like a child hears it and takes it in...so needed and so great! I needed it as much as she did.

May you all have a blessed Monday as we go about our day talking to God throughout it. In Jesus' name, amen.

    2. How sweet, NJS. Thanks for sharing!
Sometimes I feel transferring God to our grands, may be one of The Purposes He Gives Us.
When we are gone from this world, it can be one of the memories they un-tuck from their memory banks. As you already know, With His Help, ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE!
Love ❤️ you and praying for you and yours everyday.
      In Jesus ' Name. AMEN!

  41. My heart is full today. My second son travelled here for the weekend, a long road trip. Five of us have birthdays in March/April so I quickly pulled together a ‘birthday bash’ for the family last evening. I kept the meal menu simple but fussed a bit more over desserts. Our church also had a potluck dinner after service yesterday so I was feeling a bit stressed on Saturday. I gave it all to the Lord and the preparations came together so well with some unexpected but very much appreciated surprises like a gift of a box of baklava from a customer of my husband. I brought half to the potluck and saved half back for our family celebration as I know my 11 year old granddaughter loves it.
I was able to delegate tasks, giving my 8 and 11 year old grandchildren free rein to decorate two cakes, one vanilla and one chocolate. They enjoyed themselves so much doing this it made my heart sing. As we ate the children joined in conversation with the adults and suggested conversation games that we all enjoyed playing with them. Three of my four sons were there and two of my five grandchildren. The others live too far away for an impromptu weekend visit.
The hugs received when family left will be treasured, especially the big ones from the grandchildren. Cherishing these special times as I learn to trust Him more each day.
Continued prayer for Norah and her DH, anonymous and her DH as they await the appointment, Brie and the house and flea situation and all the other requests that have been brought and very thankful for all the answers He has provided.

    2. GOD INCIDENTAL for the flea situation, Websister:
While reading the above posts today, I fled across a song post. As God always does, He pre-op'd me yesterday for today!
The first line of the song I re-read today said. , Just as I am without one plea. And of course I sang, 🎶 Just as I am without one FLEA! 🎶
      Amen.

    3. Dear Websister, What a glorious Family Birthday Bash you had! So many sweet memories especially of your grandchildren decorating the cakes and hugging you. And that Baklava was an answer to your prayer for both the potluck dinner and the gathering! God provides all our needs! Sounds like you cooked a lovely dinner and baked some good desserts. Get some rest now, Sis! Praying with you and for you!
Dear Brie, I’m praying your test results will be very good and of course that that the fleas are gone from your house for rent.
Praying for Norah’s DH and Anonymous’s DH. And for Sandy and Mike. Thank You Father for answering all our prayers, healing our infirmities and our dear ones and guiding our steps in Jesus’ Name. Amen

  42. I am with u too ! I have severe scoliosis, recent fusion with metal in my back, more vertebrae‘s to go, so much nerve pain so much every pain! Been up and down the whole realm of pain, meds versus natural versus everything! I had to get off the pain meds after 15 years sadly. Struggling there is help out there through the Lord Jesus Christ, and believe me if you need those meds, the Lord will find a way for you to get them, because that had always happen for me! Until I had to find another way too
Wherever you’re at with your pain, the Lord will provide. Great to our Lord, and no other Lord resources will appear, and if they don’t still pray in God will find the way I promise through God as best as I can.
Human Pain sucks. But when we needed the most when we need the most relief it will present itself.

  44. May God help both of you with your severe pain. He knows exactly what you need. I have a friend Patricia who has constant pain and just passes out from it. May God relieve you all of your pain and guide you to the help you need to get rest for your body, mind and spirit. Thank You Jesus.

  45. Just received an update from Eli’s mom. He is getting chemo and the anti nausea meds are not working. He’s very sick and now he’s losing his hearing and he may not get it back. Thank you for your powerful prayers. God can do all things and we are trusting Him to make a way.
Father God, Thank You for helping good little Eli and easing his nausea and misery. Thank You for taking away all the bad effects of his treatments, and bring him back to good health and comfort. Restore his hearing and his joy, and destroy every bad cell and replace it with healthy tissue. Prepare a bright future for him and grant him life and peace so he can proclaim your good deeds. We ask this in the powerful Name of Christ Jesus. Amen.

    John 14:13-14
And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.
