Jesus Calling: April 25

Make Me your focal point as you move through this day. Just as a spinning ballerina must keep returning her eyes to a given point to maintain her balance, so you must keep returning your focus to Me. Circumstances are in flux, and the world seems to be whirling around you. The only way to keep your balance is to fix your eyes on Me, the One who never changes. If you gaze too long at your circumstances, you will become dizzy and confused. Look to Me, refreshing yourself in My Presence, and your steps will be steady and sure.

Hebrews 12:2
English Standard Version

looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

Psalm 102:27
English Standard Version

But You are the same,
And Your years will not come to an end.

My Prayer
Lord, hear my prayer. Listen to my words of groaning. I need you every moment. I need you to work in my life and in the lives of my family members. You are the worker of all things good in our lives. I cannot will them to act, but you Lord, can stir in them a desire to glorify you through their words and deeds.

Lord, I am living my life the best I know how; trying to be sensitive to you, but as my children are now out of our home, they are not near to my guidance when they were young and reaching up their hands to mine, crying out for help. It is hard as a parent to transition to them being on their own, but I want to trust You for their lives continually. Help them to remember only the good of my parenting and to make you their focal point throughout each day. Show them the unrest and dissatisfaction when they seek help from places outside of You.

    1. Well - 2 out of 3 are following the Lord. My oldest 2 are committed followers. My daughter is married now to a wonderful Christian man. My oldest is active in BSF and men’s bible studies as well. My youngest is 17 and needs the Lord. He beats to his own drum so we keep praying Ezekiel 36:26 for him. Thanks for asking.

    2. I wondered too Chris. Thank you for updating. You've proven Our Lord to be faithful in bringing your 2 children around. The 3rd will follow suit Chris. With a prayer warrior for a father this one doesn't stand a chance! I will pray that He continues to strengthen your resolve as you wait. You will be blessed for your strong faith.

    4. Thank you Chris Payton, for today’s prayer, though written a few years ago, it is my prayer today and each day for my 4 grown kids and now for my 8 grandkids. I echo your prayers : may the “Lord, stir in them a desire to glorify you through their words and deeds” and “ trust You for their lives continually” Amen ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ May our Lord continue to bless you and your family and all those who follow this blog. 6. Dear LORD, please hear my cry and plea for YOUR comfort for my beloved E’s family as they move through the next 2 days and beyond as they mourn the loss of their loved one, Who so LOVED YOU. LORD YOUR living word states that “your years will not come to an end” but our loved one is gone, so I know, based on YOUR word and promises that the loved one we lost here on earth is Most certainly with YOU, for his years have not come to an end but rather has moved on to be with YOU in order to fulfill YOUR Will for him๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ’ž so please fill the minds and hearts of all those that were closest to him to know our loved one is only not seen here in this worldly realm but is in fact in an even more glorious place: heaven, with YOU, where he no longer suffers and can be called upon through YOU, for he is at YOUR side. I lift my beloved E & his family Up to YOU today and forevermore. Bless E’s family with YOUR HOLY SPIRIT, so they too are as close to YOU as humanly possible while still in this world. LORD pour YOUR love upon them all and help them always remember YOUR promises: we will see our loved one again๐Ÿ™
In YOUR son’s name JESUS CHRIST I PRAY

  3. I loved today's devotion, especially the dancer analogy which I can relate to from past years. So true. I also loved hearing an update on your family (thank you for asking "One")! All 5 of mine are grown but when I looked up Ezekiel 36:26, it gave me a new prayer for my own offspring. My sister goes to BSF in OH! I will have to look into that again...it keeps coming to mind for me. Thank you for this blog. Every now and then I hit a day where there isn't one and I miss it; it's my favorite. Your honesty and pureness of heart in your prayers encourages me to dig a little deeper in my own life. Though I turned my heart to the Lord over 50 years ago, I still have days that I walk as a new-born babe in the Word; forgetting to put His Word first. "Madison," it encouraged me to hear a young person's perspective. God Bless all of you, Peyton Family and those reading this site. Today is a new, fresh 24 hours that we can commit to Him. God Bless!!

  6. I too have a huge challenge of keeping my eyes on the Lord throughout the day. I get so busy with my business of life I end up getting to the end of the day and ask myself Why didn't I take a time out here and there to honor or even acknowledge God. If I'm with Believers we talk about God or we pray together over lunch or if there's a specific reason to pray but it's the keeping my eyes on him that is such an ongoing challenge. I know that I know that I know that God will give me peace when I turn to him but when I get caught up in that hectic day which seems to be almost every day I simply forget.

  9. Hi there ... I appreciate your blog spot. However, I've just noticed a typo in the last sentence of the prayer: 'the' should be 'they'. And the Bible reference in Sarah's book is Psalm 102:27, not v.17.
Also, may I suggest that Sarah's other Bible reference, 1 John 3:19-20 be included? Thank you and God bless.

    1. Thank you. I changed the Psalm reference and the correction in my prayer. My book doesn't have I John 3:19-20 as a reference. Do you have a later edition maybe?

    2. With all due respect let's try to stay focused on the message. The typos or not what should I have stood out the most and taking up any part of the conversation. Maybe it would help if you would pray before your reading asking the the Lord to allow the holy Spirit to have control over your mind so that you may discern what is intended, and receive the message that is intended, rebuking all distractions and negative influences.

  10. Lord thank you for this JC community. I'm sure paytonfamily Chris had no idea what glorious plan you had when he started this blog. I had never been on a blog sight until I found this. I believe it was when my daughter was in the trauma ICU unit and I would go up to talk to doctors or to see her. Even though most of the time she was intubated and sedated. That was a very long month and I needed to draw all the strength from the Lord that I could. That was 21 months ago, the day I called 911 and put my grandchildren in my car as they took my daughter to the hospital. Like paytonfamily I had no idea what glorious plan God had. In writing glorious I hesitate because I know Gods plans are perfect, but it has been a very emotional, and physically draining and rewarding 21 months. Having the children with us has given them a chance to grow up loved and learning about God. We had no idea what their lives were really like and I'm so thankful for their safety and healing from so much as my granddaughter says "trauma". I'm so thankful for this blog and the sincere prayers from everyone who is drawn here. The Lord just put it on my heart to petition all of us to commit to pray for the paytonfamilies youngest son and for divine wisdom as they parent him. Please pray for him daily and share in the excitement and joy as God works in his life. I've learned if a thought comes to you and it's not something your flesh would do on it's own and it's not contrary to the word of God, It's probably the Holy Spirit speaking into you. It's sure not the enemy if it glorifies God and furthers his kingdom. So, please join me in a commitment to lift this young man up so he can become who God has called him to be. Praying for all the needs of the JC family and for all of us to walk today as thou Jesus was walking with us, because he is. Your sister in Christ, TERRI

  11. I agree we all need to pray for the youngest Peyton. I have shared here a few times. I lost my 22 year old daughter on December 30, 2017. It feels like yesterday. I am grateful she knew Christ and is with Him today. Her journey was not easy. I continue to ask for prayer. I also lost my job yesterday. I prayed for an hour before the meeting....I felt the angels with me. I know God has a plan. The unknown is hard as a single parent. I pray that I can take this time to truly mourn the death of my daughter and prepare myself for God's plan. I will be praying for this blog and all who share. God bless you all. TL

    2. Dear TL, so sorry for the loss of your precious daughter and now your job. I lost my job this Mar after 15 years of service. I believe God is asking me to rest a bit and it is quite difficult as my routine is so foreign now. Today's devo is spot on. I just speak the name of Jesus when I feel absolutely lost and out of control. Then He centers me once again. I pray you will take the time to process the grief and sweet memories of your girl, trusting God will provide and protect you as you journey. I guess it's just so counterintuitive for us to believe God loves us so much He would carve out specific time for us to grieve and process. Let's trust together that He has and that His future grace is just around the corner in regards to our new jobs. God bless. Colorado JC Friend

  12. I ca relate most to your youngest son. Sometimes folks are given a roadmap of life, IE genetics that predisposition them to certain elements of certain journeys. Everyone's journey is different and everyone's cross is different, and the one that is characteristic of your son seems to be one that I personally have dealt with. Today is day 16 for me I am in celebrate recovery and doing well and will obtain a 30-day chip in a couple weeks right at my 34th birthday. The struggle is real but Jesus Christ is the answer!

Watching Fox & Friends for today's date and they're talking about how the Trump Administration is dealing with this issue. I am also on my way to the VA as this is where I am doing a 30-day outpatient session. Even though it's only 30 days I plan on going indefinitely and expect that they'll eventually hire me because of my never-ending presence there LOL.

  15. Reading JC tonight in my late evening prayer time and I literally chuckled aloud! "Circumstances are in flux, and the world seems to be whirling around you." Yes, covid19 and the quaratine is dizzying, indeed!

"The only way to keep your balance is to fix your eyes on Me" Yes, our eyes are looking to you Jesus! As we have been saying for weeks, the daily devo fits the current pandemic situation and creates an opportunity to see God's hand working in the chaos. Praying, still, for a rapid resolution that isn't expected, but shows God's hand at work... perhaps it will be that millions have already had it and so the death rate becomes similar to the flu. In Him, Amen.

    1. First, I must thank Chris Payton for starting this wonderful blog and giving me my JC Family. I have read it for years but only just recently joined it on my computer. Sarah's devo and all of your comments are such a blessing, comfort and refreshment to my soul. MadFox, I was thinking the same thing when I read those words. As if they were written for this challenging time. We are reading the book of Esther in our Bible Group. I'm having a hard time leading it in this lockdown but we are all reading on and doing the best we can. Through the book of Esther, God's invisible Hand guides everything according to His Will and His Plan. Well I see His invisible Hand right now, guiding the way people are changing within. They are becoming courageous to save others, and generous in their lovingkindness towards one another, and thankfully, so many are now looking up from where their help cometh. I don't know how things will go but I trust God already knows, and His end with be the best for all of us. Although we are all losing loved ones, we must be comforted that they are in a better place, and we must wait patiently on the Lord.

  16. I wonder sometimes if a lot of us maybe have had the covid-19. I remember my daughter, my grandsons, and I had this terrible cough/congestion back in December having breathing issues running humidifier 24/7. It was a scary dizzy feeling mainly more concerned for our little Jairo. By the grace of God, we survived and healed. Our stay in place order has helped; we have been still, praying more, and resting in Jesus. Our city is talking about opening up and I feel dizzy, afraid. Jesus I trust in you; help me to stay focused in you. Thank you Lord for holding my hand and guiding me.

    1. You do know us...as we honestly share thoughts and prayers in a non-judgemental atmosphere. FYI, many use pseudonyms/pen names. this allows one to be more transparent and honest with regards to family or work situations to share lessons learned without creating potential problems. In my case, I've openly discussed addiction issues which would be inappropriate should persons then be able to discover their names/situations.

All that to say, when we are "home", I will have many JC friends who know me as Madfox... and my family and friends, will know how the pen name came about and be shocked at all my friends here!

    4. Sweet sweet JJ.... and our sweet Norah. too! she has had that adjective as well from me, although we all know many sweet ladies posting here. Love the hearts of many who post often... too many to mention.

I do put thought into what I write here and often edit it first and often, on a notepad app (lost several long posts with accidental back buttons etc.). in Hamlet, Shakespeare said it best... "Brevity is the soul of wit." In my jobs/career, I've had to write many emails, letters, and proposals, it is clear that you can write or say too much and lose people's interest, so yes, my goal is to edit to as few words as possible always.

However, this is NOT criticism of any that post here. My opinion is to what I post. many here post prayers and scripture that are much longer, the writing of a verbal prayer is our only option here and thus can be long. Also, our brother Bob is providing context to a "lesson" and so again, it may be longer out of necessity. Remember a no judgment zone here and I love the Spirit of Christ shown here daily. Until we meet on that great day, with agape love in Christ, Madfox. ❤️๐Ÿ™

  20. SATURDAY OF THE SECOND WEEK OF EASTER

(John 6:16-21) After the feeding of the 5000 and the need to get away from the crowd, Jesus retreated to be alone as He often did when a great feat of divine power had taken place. Before He left us, He asked us to go across the sea to Capernaum and He would meet us there. As the sun was setting, we boarded the boats and began to cross the Sea of Galilee. A sudden storm came up making it difficult on us to the point of concern the winds may capsize our boat. As our fears increased, all of a sudden we looked outside the boat and we saw something on the water. In all our experience of fishing, we had never seen anything like this before. Now we had something more of which to be afraid. "What is this?" As this figure drew closer (and our fears were ever increasing), it spoke to us, "I AM. Do not be afraid." It's Jesus...and...and...He is walking on the water...??? We wanted Him to get into the boat but there was no need because, unbeknownst to us, we had reached the shore. As if the feeding of the 5000 was not enough to put us in a total state of wonder, now this experience in the storm. I have included this incident in my gospel in an effort to help you believe Jesus was and is God-With-Us and of His being omnipotent as only God can be. Yet another occurrence that cannot be explained by the head but can be believed in the heart.

Our JC reading for today uses an excellent analogy to challenge us to stay focused on our Lord. In so doing, we gain confidence in His omnipotence in all circumstances. This story of Jesus walking on the water is included by Matthew, Mark, and John for the same reason. This really happened to the disciples and they told this story because they wanted us to believe in His omnipotence over all. I must confess the many times I have hit crisis, fears filled my thinking as if He had never done anything for me of anyone for that matter. The apostle Paul admonished the believers at Philippi (4:6), to not be anxious about anything but to pray with thanksgiving which serves the purpose of remembering all that our Lord has done in the past. Since He is unchanging, He will do as He has done and will always be doing to the end of the ages. He is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Let us keep focus so we may gain confidence from His all powerful nature.

God be with you! With love, Bob

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

Heavenly Father, Thank You for being my Shepherd. I refresh myself in Your Presence, as I keep my eyes fixed on You and make You are my focal point today. I surrender all to You, take over my plans and grant me rest, in Jesus name. Amen.

    Blessings and Peace to all.

    2. As always, thanks for your posts, Maplewood, NJ. In a culture where cowboys and cattle are dominate, we have lost understanding of the relationship between sheep and their shepherd. Years ago, W. Phillip Keller wrote a book entitled, 'A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23'. It is a most insightful look at the relationship between a shepherd and the sheep under his care. Keller points out how each verse contains strong imagery about proper treatment of sheep which reflects our Lord's care of us. Keller takes Psalm 23 to a whole new level of appreciating Jesus as the Good Shepherd.

    3. Thanks Bob, I just ordered a copy of that book. We lease land to a guy that has cows here and they definitely know him and run to him when they see his truck drive up, almost stampeding when they hear him rattle the food bucket. Before it gets cold, he has already sent the provisions ahead of the cold that they cannot see, in order to to keep them well nourished, regardless of the grass situation that they can now see. Things that make me go HMMMMM! and think of the bible verse: I know Mine and Mine know Me!
Just like the cattle farmer, so has God gone ahead of us to keep us well cared for, regardless of the pandemic that our limited eyes are now seeing. God's Love and Favor are being prayed for all of you!

  28. I'm catching up on posts, though I am current on praying. Really bad storm on Friday night knocked out our internet service all day Saturday. I am able to get back online and I'm reading now.
Ellen, I am prayerfully thankful to read ... amazed at her scan results. They think it was the chemo but we know it IS God! I prayed JJs prayer for her and imagined her standing before the board in divine health! That’s what they saw!...
I am now praying that on her next visit, they will say "What Tumor?"
Norah, I'm thankful about Jesus' Victory for your Best Man.
Jeanne, I'm thankful about Jesus' Victory with your visit to Grand Littles and Family.
I am thanking God for all other Victories in Jesus' Name. Through all of our major situations and circumstances, our God is Majorest!
I am still reading my printed copy of JJ's prayer everyday. This coming Wednesday, my brother will get his first injection of Eligard. 100% Efficacy with minor or No side effects is our prayer. Thanks Be to God for all of His gifts to us, gifts so undeserved, yet gifts He gave to prove His Love. Thank God for His Gift to us of your prayers. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
    Good God Almighty
    I hope You'll find me
Praising Your Name no matter what comes

So I keep praising Your Name at the top of my lungs...

  38. From yesterday's devotion and test:
    Brie April 24, 2022 at 8:35 PM
When you respond to the circumstances of your life with affirmations of trust, you actively participate in the process... Today Keith's wifi went out. Wifi connects his heart's pacemaker to a device that sends realtime electronic readings to his Dr's office. I called his wifi service provider. No service person could come out until Thursday (today is Sunday) Rather than plan this out alone on my own, as I have so often done in the past, instead, I re-read today's reading over and over until I mustered up enough trust to get into God's Word, praying to Him for help rather than my traditional, alone on my own routine.
When I rose from my heartfelt prayer laying it all in His Hands, reassuring myself You Are Not Alone, the wifi service was restored. Thank you Jesus for TESTing me on today's devotion, to make sure I really got it, and so I could share Your Victory in my TESTimony. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

  49. Worth Sharing Michael Youssef Daily Devotions

We all can remember our school days when we were faced with exams. We spent all day in school—and still we panicked when it came to test time. Of course, we know that these exams and tests were for our benefit. They measured our growth, highlighted our strengths and weaknesses, and guided us toward the future. We face tests and exams on a spiritual level, too—but these tests are indicators of our eternal future.

We must examine ourselves with the guidance of the Holy Spirit and always be ready to be tested. Throughout 2 Corinthians, the apostle Paul wrote what God taught him that gave him power to live positively in Christ in the midst of fear, trepidation, imprisonment, and flogging. In his conclusion to this letter, he says, "Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves" (2 Corinthians 13:5).

The Corinthians of old fell into the trap that some of our modern educators have fallen into today. If students are not keeping up and succeeding in school, some believe that the standards must be too high—so they lower the standards.

Worse than the education system is evidence that this is happening in the churches of Jesus Christ, too. People don't want to believe that Jesus is the only way to heaven and eternal life. Some churches are saying, Let's water down the Truth and not talk about the crucifixion or the resurrection. We don't want to offend people—they are the most important part of the church. Instead, we'll talk about relationships and good communication.

The apostle Paul would tell us that this type of compromise leads only to frustration and disappointment. He is telling us that to have the peace and assurance of our salvation, we must believe the Word of God.

Prayer: God, help me to see where I have lowered standards in my own life. Forgive me for compromising and grant me steadfast faith for Your glory and my good. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

    8. Prayers for you, Jan! I too have approached the Throne many times for insight and healing of various health issues. Re: constant shoulder pain, recently, the Lord finally asked me how long was I going to keep carrying the burdens that I should be turning over to him. I now have measurably less pain as I surrender more and more each day. Thank you Jesus!
I pray for answers and insight for you in dealing with your health issues. In Jesus name ♥️✝️๐Ÿ™

  56. I'm off to see my good mom! Still rejoicing about dear Norah's DH. Our God is so merciful and kind. He answers our prayers and heals our weaknesses as we trust in Him. May God bless your days and lift you in every way. Let's keep our Focus on Him Who leads our paths and brings us all joy, peace, hope and love.

    Psalm 31:3
    For You are my rock and my fortress;
    Therefore, for Your name’s sake,
    Lead me and guide me.

    Romans 15:13
Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

    2. Thanks dear Websister! Your prayers helped. Had a good day with my mom and she even ate pretty well. I caught her smiling quite a few times too. Praying with you for our dear Jan that God is restoring her and she is feeling better. Thank You Jesus.
