Jesus Calling: October 13

Take time to be still in My Presence. The more hassled you feel, the more you need this sacred space of communion with Me. Breathe slowly and deeply. Relax in My holy Presence while My Face shines upon you.  This is how you receive My Peace, which I always proffer to you.
Imagine the pain I feel when My children tie themselves up in anxious knots, ignoring My gift of Peace. I died a criminal's death to secure this blessing for you. Receive it gratefully; hide it in your heart. My Peace is an inner treasure, growing within you as you trust in Me. Therefore, circumstances cannot touch it. Be still, enjoying Peace in My Presence.

Psalm 46:10
English Standard Version

“Be still, and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!”

Numbers 6:25-26
English Standard Version

25 the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;
26 the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.

Was cooking late last night and He was with me as I told him how happy I was that He was keeping me company and guiding my hand and choosing teh ingredients for Lamb Stew. I hardly ever look at recipes I just tune into Him and He directs me. I'm a good cook in Him. The cookies I throw together with His help are called God cookies. My Bible Group loves them. God is good.

  4. I have read from a person who raises sheep that sheep will only lie down and be at peace when they feel absolutely secure. They gain that sense of security out of their dependence on a loving and caring shepherd. As David wrote in Psalm 23, “He makes me lie down in green pastures.” In these early morning hours, I have gotten up (physically) to lie down (spiritually). A favorite expression of mine comes from Julian of Norwich, “All is well. It always has been, it always will be. All is well!” Peace to you, my brothers and sisters in Christ.

    5. Thank you Brie, this song holds a vivid memory in my mind of God's promises and provisions. Around 20 years ago my husband when leaving for work discovered his car had been stolen during the night. We called the police as they were coming we realized our 15 year old daughter was missing also. Even though I was upset and frantically calling her friends I kept singing "it is well, with my soul, it is well, it is well with my soul". The police officers must of thought I was crazy. But they didn't know my heavenly Daddy was already working it out! I could stand in my kitchen cradling a cup of coffee singing to my Lord knowing he knew all of this before the plot had been played out here on earth. My trust was in HIM. I'm now raising 2 of that daughters children and continue to remind myself, "It is well, with my soul". My flesh hates the fact that she is addicted and living on the streets. I know that he is only a cry away for both her and I. My job is to do what God has called me to do and that is to raise these children and be a willing vessel.

  13. I had to look up proffer and found this, "If you say you "proffered" something to a friend, it suggests a spirit of generosity and it signals that your friend was welcome to accept or reject it as he saw fit."
This is actually a bit troubling for me as I have to consider if I am not receiving all the Peace He wants to give then am I rejecting what He is offering and promising? But at the same time, I am comforted with the statement of peace being an inner treasure GROWING within. Praying for His voice of transformation and sanctification to continue to proffer and prosper us as He sees fit. And as Jesus prayed, "Father, glorify us so that we may glorify you".

  14. THOUGHTS ON INTIMACY WITH OUR LORD

The JC reading for today calls us to the stillness He desires us to sit in with Him for only when we are still, both outwardly and inwardly, can we listen attentively to what He has to say. With that being said, let's move to the next step in the Divine Office, the First Reading.

It is amazing (but hardly so) that my devotional this AM was all about listening to God's word to us. The First Reading is always a passage of scripture, God speaking to us. And what is it that He has to say to us? The scriptures were inspired by the Holy Spirit for God to tell us of 'the true story of His incredible love for us. No other storyteller, however gifted, can paint for us the full, living portrait of who we are and have been, and who we are becoming. Let us listen attentively, lest we forget and try to remake ourselves according to some other image.' (from the devotional I use, the Magnificat). As a minister, I have been asked many times by people to provide a scripture that would give them a 'quick fix' to a particular issue with which they were struggling. I was always reluctant to do so because that reduces scripture to a set of rules, which was what the religious leaders of Jesus day had turned the scriptures into. Random grasping for verses to meet particular needs will not enable us to discover the true point of it all, that we are loved eternally, unconditionally, and uncontainably by God. When we embrace that as the point of all of scripture, the answers to specific questions will become obvious.

So as you become still for the First Reading (of scripture), 'Come in; bow and bend low; kneel before the God who loves you' (adapted from Psalm 95:6). Be prepared to hear of His love for you and then listen to how He loves you through the First Reading for the day.

We will spend a few days on this step.

Be blessed this day in every breath you take, dear JC family. God be with you. With love, Bob

  15. Good morning JC family! I felt led to share with you about the thoughts I had meditating on Psalm 106 yesterday, thanks to Bob's wonderful teachings.

God is not a human, thankfully, he shows patience, kindness, love, compassion towards His people. As we can see in this psalm and in the history of the Israelite people, God heard their cries of distress and saved them, they praised him, came back to him, but then started again to make choices contrary to him that led them back into situations of distress. It is clear there, and still today, that the human being, since the fall, tend to wander. We can be so easily wandering in the world, being seduced by its ways, slipping on an increasingly slippery path if we do not brake. But only we can brake, he won't force us to do so. That is why, in order to avoid wandering and slipping, we must remember God's words, and also what he has done for us. To do so produces thankfulness, gratefulness, worship and Praise to Him. If we are too hurried in our time with Him as Bob said yesterday, we do not let the spirit speak to us. In reading His word, we must not say to ourselves "Oh I already know this, oh I've already read that...". (Too often I'm guilty of that). You don't say that in some other areas of life, "Oh I've already done/seen/eaten this/already done this or that so I don't have to do it anymore." Instead, you probably want/need to do it again. Because of our tendancy to wander, we constantly need to be reminded of His words. We need to go back to His presence and remember who He is and who(se) we are and everything that comes from it. He must be our number one priority, because this is what He created us for, this first nature that was ours before the fall, and which we only find again through our relationship with Him by taking this path, His path to eternal life. This is why He wants us to be born again: again as in the time of Adam and Eve, before the fall, which was God's original plan for His creation.

I wish you all a blessed and wonderful day dear JC family. Praying for you all.

    Blessings from France

    3. Thank you (!!!), Mon Ami, for sharing. You heightened my anticipation of your sharing yesterday and I went looking for it this AM. And here it is. So well said and so true. Have fallen into the same trap of hearing a familiar passage and having my brain go, 'I know what that says' which closes my mind and thus my heart to hearing the Spirit. There was a cereal manufacturer in America that advertised their basic cereal of corn flakes with this line, 'Taste it again for the first time'. When I come to a familiar passage of scripture, I remind my self to read it again as if for the first time. God be with you.

    5. You fed me very well dear BFF and your words were so true. They made me think about how we must take our time to savor the time with Him and allow His Spirit to speak to us in quiet groanings. He is blessed we are spending precious time to get to know Him better. And in doing so we are seeing ourselves through His eyes. Let us always remember we are of great worth to our Father and beloved. Brothers and Sisters, Put your heads up high today and walk in the Spirit. We are the children of the Most High and loved beyond human understanding. He longs for us to come to Him out of sincere love, with hungry hearts yearning to be filled by Him so we can begin to realize the fullness of His love which is far beyond human measure.

From Numbers 6:25 the Lord make His Face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; 26 the Lord lift up His Countenance upon you and give you His Peace.

BEACH DEVOTION THE PLEASURE AND PEACE IN HIS PRESENCE
FROM 1 JOHN 2:  We have received God's Holy Spirit. He lives within us, in our heart. He teaches us what is right. He teaches us all things. He is truth. And He said, we MUST live in our Lord Jesus Christ. We must always keep ourself comnected to Him.

Sometimes God's Holy Spirit is like a beach thunderstorm, powerfully drenching us. Sometimes It is like a warming beach sunray for our body, or a cooling ocean wave washing over our feet. Whatever form His Holy Spirit takes, stop! Hit the brakes! Take the time to connect to His Powerful Moment meant to direct our mind, heart and purpose toward His Kingdom. Whenever we read or hear His Word and believe deeper in Him, we are sealed in the anointing of God's Holy Spirit.  Meanwhile, back at the beachhouse, His Presence is also with us in the more mundane and simple moments so we can enjoy the peace and pleasure of His Holy Spirit's Presence everywhere, anytime, even now, even us.

    Dear Heavenly Father God,
Would You teach us to accept Your proffer and dwell in the Peace of Your Presence in our everyday, ordinary moments just as in Your more powerful moments? In Jesus' Name, I ask. I seek. I knock. I thank. Amen.

    5. Well said Brie! The Spirit is always there for us and we will miss His gentle instruction and guidance if we get distracted by the world's trappings today. Let us put the brakes on more often and be still to what our indwelling Spirit is trying to teach us today. Nothing is more important. We must welcome the Lord and the Spirit into every part of our ordinary day.
Amen Bob, We are truly made complete and lifted to a higher level when we are in tune to the Spirit's power working hard inside us. Let us not be in any hurry today and make time to be with the Lord and to open our hearts to His Spirit's instruction, guidance and wisdom. God fill us and molds us as we remain still and ready to receive all that He proffers today.

    5. PSALM 46:  God is our refuge and strength, a tested help in all times. 2 And so we need to trust Him, even if the world blows up and the mountains crumble into the sea. 3 Let the oceans roar and foam; let the mountains tremble! 4 THERE IS ALWAYS A RIVER  OF JOY FLOWING THROUGH THE CITY OF OUR GOD —the sacred home of the God above all gods. 5 God Himself is living in that city; therefore it continually stands rock steady, despite the turmoil everywhere. He will hasten His help. 6 The nations rant and rave in anger—but when God Speaks, the earth melts in submission and kingdoms totter into ruin. 7 The Heavenly Commander over Armies of Angels, Who is above all other commanders and armies, is here among us. He, the God of Jacob, has come to rescue us. 8 Come, see the glorious things that our God does, how He brings submission upon the world 9 and causes wars to end throughout the earth, breaking and burning every weapon. 10 “Stand silent! Know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation in the world!” 11 The Heavenly Commander of the Heavenly Armies of Angels is here among us! He is here helping us. The God of Jacob, has come to rescue us. Amen. Thank You Jesus!

    7. Thanks, Janet. My thoughts were that that would be my quiet time, when I am the only person in the world with our Lord. And I have learned when the time is completed, He will send me to where there are people; for example, to this blog where I become one with all of you. God be with you.

Good point Bob. He is happy to have you to Himself but then guides you to be an extension of His love and light to others, especially our family here. We are all so blessed to have each other and all be of one accord.

  19. One of the intimacy devo brother Bob posted was about singing. There have been many times that I've been awakened with a worship song already forming in my head. I can't explain it. It's never any song I heard recently that I recorded in my thoughts. Infact, it's songs from way in the past. Here's one I woke up singing this morning by Michael W. Smith:
Above all powers, above all kings,
Above all nature, and all created things, above all wisdom and all the ways of man, you were here before the world began

Above all kingdoms, above all thrones, above all wonders the world has ever known. Above all wealth and treasures of the earth. There's no way to measure what You're worth

    Crucified, laid behind a stone,
    You lived to die
    Rejected and alone
Like a rose, trampled on the ground
    You took the fall,
    And thought of me
    Above all
Like a rose, trampled on the ground
    You took the fall
    And thought of me,
    Above all

    1. #METOO, Jan. My first waking thought, before the consciousness coffee provides, is always a WORSHIP song, sometimes just a few lines or the chorus or the melody, but always a song. This morning it was "Into The Sea" by Tasha Layton!

  20. I have, 'It is Well," in my mind, humming, thanking God, thanks to Brie and Bob. I woke early with a heavy heart, thinking of the two young ones who married just 3 or so weeks ago. The bride developed a fever and has had it for days now. She tested negative for COVID, but the Dr. wants to do blood work. Please keep them in your prayers. I am praying for a woman I don't even know other than through a friend of mine, who lost her husband suddenly. My friend is having a "long goodbye," as her husband with dementia slowly disappears. But, she said she would take that any day over a sudden loss and the inability to say all of the things that need to be said.
When I wake up with a heavy heart, I pray in the Spirit, for I know that God knows their need. I have no reason to feel sad, other than memories of my dear friend passing this time 2 years ago. Then I realized the blessing that she is awaiting the Return and not in the Nursing Home she was in, isolated and feeling alone.
The sky is bright this morning with the Sun and my eyes are turned upon Jesus (another favorite song).
Bless you, dear JC Family, for all of your prayers of rejoicing, comfort and reminders that we are not alone and He has gone before us. Father, I thank you for guiding me this day and that I will humbly follow. Let my words be Your Word and let me bring peace and comfort to the people I talk with today. Keep my priorities Yours and let me set aside my fears and concerns. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray.

    4. Just think, Norah, if God had not given you such a beautiful, loving heart, it would never get heavy. You could wake up in the morning and go your own way without a thought to anyone else. The price we pay for choosing love is at times to have a 'heavy heart'. It is worth it is it not? No, I will not pray for it to go away for if it did, so would the love that causes it in the first place. I would never wish that for you. God be with you.

    5. May God comfort your beautiful and caring heart. Praying that the young bride will recover completely with God's healing power. Praying also for the woman who lost her husband suddenly and also for your friend whose husband has alzheimers. I believe you told me about one of your cases where a mother lost a daughter. I pray for her comfort too. God knows when you wake up with a heavy heart.
Beautiful thought Bob that we shouldn't pray never to have a heavy heart because the pain in our heart especially when we have lost a loved one or we're concerned about a dear one is because of the love we feel. What a blessing to know our Lord really understands and He's always there to say. Don't worry dear One, I am here.

  21. Most Gracious and Loving Father, Thank You for this cold rainy day. The grass, land, crops, plants and the dry areas are being watered. All because of Your magnificent glory! As I stare through the windows and see, hear the rain drops, I can’t help but be amazed of the POWER that YOU are! I’m so blessed to see and hear Your loving kindness and faithfulness this morning. Calm my mind like Jesus calmed the storming sea, as I gaze at the beauty of your Holiness. I acknowledge my racing thoughts and ask the Holy Spirit to rule over each of them and help my mind be still and rest in Your Loving Presence. I offer my prayer to You in the name of Jesus my Lord. Amen.

This morning’s devotion encourages us to be still in the Presence of the Lord. Why, because it is at this time of quite communion that we must quiet ourselves to hear what the Spirit has to say to us in His still, small voice, those words that we so frequently miss out on, rushing through our days. Let’s image seeing God high and lifted up (Isaiah 6:1) as we stand/kneel down and bow, picturing ourselves in the heavenly throne, rejoicing with the angels and saint singing “Holy, Holy, Holy” and just be still in His Presence. This allow the peace of God to rule in and through our hearts and minds, submitting all we are to Him, and allowing His stillness to refresh the depths of our souls.

Dear Loving Father, Thank You for mercy seat and the grace through Christ Jesus that makes all things sufficient for us. May we enjoy peace in Your Loving Presence and count our many blessings, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

    Blessings and Peace.

  25. Thank You God and JC Family. According to Dr Jones, Larry's surgery "went well" I know it was because of your prayers to a Good God Almighty. While Larry was in surgery, I was able to go to a Mass nearby at the same Church with the parishioners who prayed me through Radiation Treatments. This was an unplanned bonus.
Our daughter was also there bringing her ER/CathLab/RR Nursing experiences. She was a tremendous help to both of us; may she, and all of our JC Family's children, always receive showers and showers of God's choicest blessings. As I stared at her, applying yesterday's lesson was hard...Enjoy My good gifts, but do not cling to them. Turn your attention to the Giver of all good things, and rest in the knowledge that you are complete in Me... I knew I had to do this, but it was still hard. I believe I failed; O well, maybe next year I presume I will have grown into yesterday's devotion.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. (Romans 15:13). For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. (Romans 8:6).

Truths of who we are: I am a daughter (son for you) of The Most High God. I am loved redeemed and renewed. I am chosen, blameless and holy. I was bought at a great price. God knows me thoroughly and yet loves me completely. He has plans for my future that include hope, not harm, blessing, not banishment. I belong to Him! When we listen to His word, it takes root in our minds. This allows it to eradicate any untrue destructive thought patterns. We say NO and DO NOT TAKE ANY OF the enemy's garbage! We take it captive and cast it OUT! John 8:47a tells us "He who belongs to God hears what God says" I declare that you, Keith, are a son of The Most High God and on a Great Journey!!! 33. I was going to request prayers yesterday as my VERY pregnant daughter, Paula (40 weeks), had her doctor appointment and NOTHING was happening. This is their first baby and she is praying for a natural birth without any inducing. The midwife, Claire, and her favorite midwife, was there for her appointment yesterday asking Paula if she's felt any additional pressure or had lost her mucus plug. Paula, very matter of fact-like, answered back, "Nope. Feel exactly the same." Paula told me they'd let her go to next Friday before putting a monitor on her to be sure the baby was doing okay but then at the end of 41 weeks going into 42 they'd induce. I could hear the angst in her voice. This kid of mine is SO prepared for this baby, hoping and praying for it to happen naturally (she & Ben are super-grounded in their faith!) Well...
I got a call at 5:09 this morning from Paula..."Mom, I've been up since 3a.m. and having contractions. Went to the bathroom and saw what must be the plug. Have been laboring in bed while Ben was still sound asleep. At 4:45 I finally woke Ben and he jumped out of Bed saying "okay, I'm ready, do we need to go!". LOL. So, JC family, while I was going to reach out for prayers to our JC fam yesterday for things to get going, the day got away from me...looks like God heard my prayer and we have a baby coming today! If you could join me in prayers for Paula, Baby Bolton (they don't know gender), Ben and her doula and midwife, I'd be so grateful. Thank you all!

They only allow you to labor at home that long after the water's broken. Please pray for consistent, narrowing contractions with progression and for strength and endurance for this marathon she's in. She's so hoping for no drugs or intervention with this delivery. Thank you, one and all! So grateful!

    2. Thank you so much, Brie. I didn't think anyone would be on the site so late. so grateful. I wish I could take on the contractions for her for awhile so she could nap and re-energize. I know all of our JC mommas can understand this.

    4. Rest assured, NJS. Someone is always praying in this JC Warrior's Prayer Room, whether they post or not. At times when we are not visibly in here, we are still praying for all who enter, and/or request prayers.
Lastly, many have "Notify me" checked, so real time requests are seen and prayed for.
I can relate to Paula in that our dreams for a natural Lamaze Style Birth were dashed at 2:18 AM. Yet, a beautiful baby girl came into this world another way, and 44 years later she is still beautiful inside and out. My Mom told me, all is well that ends well. I am praying for parents, grandparents and baby as I sing of the Goodness of God. May His Blessings and Favors completely surround this family. I ask. I seek. I knock. I praise. I thank. I yield. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

  42. Please pray for my sister Janet and her husband David. They are so sad and lost, because their good dog died. He was such a beloved family member! Janet has her own medical problems and this is just one more thing to deal with. He was her companion for the hours when she was alone. I reminded her God is her companion always. David loved his dog so much too. God bless them both, and guide and comfort them. Please keep my sister in Christ, Patricia in your prayers. She lost her son and has so much sorrow and pain because of her physical problems. God is the peace when we must cope with loss and so many other difficulties. May He shower Janet, David, and Patricia with comfort and peace. Let them feel His love surround them like a soft warm blanket and may the road ahead be flooded with His brilliant light so their broken hearts will heal. Thank You Jesus.
Romans 12:15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.
Let us do our best to lift those who are broken hearted and depressed. We are their light. We are God's beacons, as Christ is our Light in this world. He lights even the darkest wilderness.

  44. Prompted to share Michael Youssef daily devotion. As a sojourner in the City of Man, make sure that your allegiance to the City of God is undivided and uncompromised. Make sure that as you live in the City of Man, you maintain your wholehearted fidelity to the City of God. In these days, when many who profess to be Christians are selling out and compromising with the culture, we must stand with Joshua, who said, "But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD" (Joshua 24:15).

God has strategically placed you in your neighborhood, your workplace, or your campus so that you can be an ambassador for the City of God, even though you now live in the City of Man. God does not call us to run from the City of Man or to hide in a bunker to wait out the apocalypse. God has called us to stand in the thick of the fray, to plant our feet at the bloody crossroads of history, and to proclaim the Good News to a dying world.

God calls us to invite others—before it's too late!—to come to the City of God. We cannot invite others to follow Jesus if we are living as they do. If our lives reflect anxiety and fear instead of confidence and faith, what "good news" do we offer the world?

Prayer: Father, give me an undivided heart that longs for Your presence. As I take joy in You, may others see Your goodness and find salvation. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Here are the lyrics to the song City of God.

Awake from your slumber! Arise from your sleep!
A new day is dawning for all those who weep.
The people in darkness have seen a great light.
The Lord of our longing has conquered the night.

Let us build the city of God.
May our tears be turned into dancing!
For the Lord, our light and our love,
has turned the night into day!

We are sons of the morning; we are daughters of day.
The One who has loved us has brightened our way.
The Lord of all kindness has called us to be
a light for his people to set their hearts free.

Let us build the city of God.
May our tears be turned into dancing!
For the Lord, our light and our love,
has turned the night into day!

God is light; in him there is no darkness.
Let us walk in his light, his children, one and all.
O comfort my people; make gentle your words.
Proclaim to my city the day of her birth.

Let us build the city of God.
May our tears be turned into dancing!
For the Lord, our light and our love,
has turned the night into day!

O city of gladness, now lift up your voice.
Proclaim the good tidings that all may rejoice!

Let us build the city of God.
May our tears be turned into dancing!
For the Lord, our light and our love,
has turned the night into day!

  50. Thank you for all the prayers and support. The doc couldn’t do the extraction today so I need to go back in a couple weeks. However, I wanted to let you know that the Lord placed a beautiful Christian man in charge of my extraction! He was so reassuring and we talked about his mission work as a dentist and of course, our faith. Amen πŸ™
