Jesus Calling: January 24

My Peace is the treasure of treasures: the pearl of great price. It is an exquisitely costly gift, both for the Giver and the receiver. I purchased this Peace for you with My blood. You receive this gift by trusting Me in the midst of life's storms. If you have the world's peace--everything going your way--you don't seek My unfathomable Peace. Thank Me when things do not go your way, because spiritual blessings come wrapped in trials. Adverse circumstances are normal in a fallen world. Expect them each day. Rejoice in the face of hardship, for I have overcome the world.
Matthew 13:46
New King James Version
...who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it.

James 1:2
English Standard Version
Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds...

John 16:33
English Standard Version
I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.

My Prayer
Your word says in Romans that there is peace in Christ. This peace was not cheap. It came at a great price; the death of Jesus on the cross for each of us. Lord, too often the peace I seek in life is not your peace. I seek peace from my own decision making. Help me to know what it means to have my peace be in You. Lord, deepen me in Your Word each day so that your Words are in my life.

Help me Lord to be thankful for even the tough times or the hard times. Lord, it happens every day to me. There are expectations I have often of other people and how they are to act toward me and so there are unmet expectations. Those are trials for me. There are challenges with my job and getting work done or not getting work done because there is so much work to do. Those are trials. There are employees that do not do a level of work needed. Those are trials. Lord, I find that many of those trials right now are unmet expectations. Teach me Lord if what I want is out of line and perhaps not really waiting on You for patience. Like my children not being assertive in their future goals but instead it often seems they are content to just watch another television show or be entertained one more time. My son wants to quit soccer when soccer is a trial to him. He isn't getting the feedback that he used to get. I suppose I have these expectations and they are not getting met, but I suppose I am also concerned that they are making unwise decisions.

Lord, I do think of my mom and the trial she is going through of getting a cancer diagnosis for the 3rd time now in the last 10 years and contemplating surgery for a 3rd time and whether it is worth it to go through that again, given the last surgery had such a difficult and long-lasting recovery. That is definitely a trial.

But, Lord, throughout all these events, we can count these as joy? Throughout all these events our eyes need to be centered on You realizing that Peace is not found simply in getting all of our messes fixed. But Peace is something you purchased for us. True peace is bigger than all of these trials. It is knowing that I will always be in Your presence and eternity with You is always in the cards and I never have to question my eternal outcome. Lord, help me to be defined by that sort of peace and not simply the unrest that occurs with these momentary events. Granted, Lord, you care for these events and I thank you for caring, but help me walk through them, realizing you are by side and you will do as you desire. And through that I can have peace.

  1. WOW! I needed this. I am currently in college. I'm so close to graduation, but things aren't working out according to my plans. My mother wants me to drop a class because she feels like I'm putting too much on myself. But I'm operating out of what I want. I want to graduate in 2018... given I graduated high school in 2008. It's been taking me ten years to figure out my major and finally get to where I am now with God and in life. I want God to help me graduate on time, but with the way things may work out... I might not graduate until spring 2019. I don't want to. I'm not sure if the enemy is at work trying to stop my goals, or if I am operating from selfish ways- all while asking God to bless my plans and give me peace in direction. It's my senior year, so I'm trying to finish strong, but is this God's plan or mine? I'm facing adversity after adversity, and I figured it's because I'm getting close to the finish line. I needed to read your prayer. Jesus Calling is always on time and aligned with what I'm going through. Thank You!

  3. James 1:2 "Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds..." As we have discussed for weeks, to trust God in the midst of our trials is challenging enough! But now we're told to add joy? Father, Son, and Spirit hold my hand until I find peace in any circumstance. May I trust you completely. Amen.

    8. Thanks for asking WWJD?, Audra. Idaho, Alaskim,
I believe Jesus has expectations for me to do my best to know, love, follow and serve Him, yet He seems to allow for human error. When I fall/fail, we talk. His part of the conversation is loving and kind. He picks me up, dusts me off and gets me back in the race, forgiven, renewed, and re-guided. John 15:15 says He still calls me "friend" (rather than calling me a big disappointment, lowlife, etc!) PLUS He Promises to be with me ALWAYS! so I hope that includes when I disappoint Him.
I have never read in the bible where Jesus lowered His Standards, His Commandments nor His Promises nor the amount of Love He gives. I am banking on His everlasting Grace and Mercy to bring me through it all!
Inquiring minds would like to hear from the rest of our JC Family...

    9. This is an old song my mom used to sing to me. Now that she is in Heaven, I imagine Jesus singing it.
      I'll be loving you Always
With a love that's true Always
      When the things you've planned
      Need a helping hand
      I will understand Always
      Always,
      Always
Days may not be fair Always
That's when I'll be there Always
      Not for just an hour
      Not for just a day
      Not for just a year
      But Always,
      Remember Always!

    11. John S, Audra, Brie, I too want to be closer and to know this purpose in my daily life to know Him and to make him known to others. I struggle with the employee, work, friends and family expectations. Audra I think people will always disappoint us, but I also believe that we as humans always strive to meet the expectations set before us, so no need to lower them. Set expectations high, but be willing to give grace when thos high expectations arent met. Prayers for us all as we navigate knowing Him more and seeking and finding and executing his will for each of us.
I started a notebook last week for this blog. Each person has their own page and I write down each of your requests and praises so I remember what I'm praying for each day. Love each of you and am so thankful for vfc this JC family. Blessings, Mindy

    12. Avoid disappointments? Not sure avoiding them is possible.
Many times I experience disappointments when things go HIS WAY, instead of my way.
According to today's JC Devotion: Rather than avoidance, I am to practice: Thank ME when things do not go your way, because spiritual blessings come wrapped in trials. Adverse (disappointing) circumstances are normal in a fallen world. Expect them each day. Rejoice in the face of hardship (disappointments), for I have overcome the world.
Easier copied and pasted than done!

    13. Thank you for engaging with your thoughts. I am certain Jesus Would not lower His standards, we have books in the bible that tell all the ways he never did. I did some couples counseling work with an exercise that we did called the expectation conversation. We made lists of what we had a "right" to expect of each other. Made for revealing ways that we were disappointing each other. I don't want to disappoint God, others or myself. I love the idea of the journal, so far my ways to keep you all in my prayers is from memory.

    14. Love to you, dear Brie. We will always have disappointments and hardships but we will also always have our Lord by our side to lead us through. It is His desire to give us the good and allow the bad. He needs to see we are standing strong through the storms that often threaten to sweep us away. So blessed that He is our very present stronghold in all times of trouble. He is just a whisper away. You are such a sweet sister. I cherish you as I pray for you.

  4. Here is what I have found in life personally. It is a journey. Being a father of high school and college kids has given me a perspective on my own life. Early on in life and early in our faith walk because we are not developed and our faith is young we get rocked pretty easily by the waves of the sea and the trials of life. The trials never end. What changes is our faith and our trust and our relationship with the Lord. I find that as my maturity in life and in the Lord grows little by little the power of the waves of the sea have less damaging effect and I'm able to see through the storm and find that peace that God promises is always there for me. I have mentors in my life that are 10 and even 20 years ahead of me and they talk about even the next level so when I look at my children myself and the men that have gone before me I see the progression of our faith and I see where that Joy that is unspeakable and available can be a reality. That's my two cents.

Praying for each of us to find Peace in the love that God has granted us moment by moment. God is truly LOVE!

Bringing peace as discussed would have yielded better outcomes. Through the years, it's clear that Jesus has created the model, whether rich or poor, sick or well... LOVE all and bring PEACE into all you do. He shed His blood in a final act of peace and love. May my 2nd half or third or quarter of life focus on Him. 9. Thanking You for this beautiful day You've made and ushered me into. May I look all around me and receive the many gifts that You placed in it for me and be grateful. THANK YOU FATHER!

As we walk with the Lord in the Light of His word, trusting in Him and not leaning on our own understanding, but allowing His peace to take over, we can trust that He will take us from: hurt to health, stagnation to success, poverty to prosperity, lack to abundance, wounds to wisdom and pain to purpose (and the list goes on), in Jesus name.

God has a plan for us, and our bible tells us in Jeremiah 29:11, that it is good. The other good news is, because God has a plan for us, even bad news fits within His vision! LOL! yes, ain't that something?
The AWESOME Majesty of this SUPREME HOLY Creator that we serve, is beyond human comprehension. Nevertheless, even through the impossible, we need to let go and trust Him, the God of ALL possibilities!
He replenishes bigger and greater after every storm. Our faith in God causes us to believe this, no matter what!
Then we take courage in His Peace that transcends all our understanding. His peace that is PERMANENT and SECURED! NOT the peace of the world gives us which is fleeting and always changing with circumstances, the one that is built on weak foundation of compromise, and the peace that gives no thought to the root of the problems!
This Peace we are talking about, is the PEACE of God that is built on the sure foundation of HIS WORD! God's Peace is ours!
In Christ, we are offered peace with God because we who "once were Far off" (Eph. 2:13), have been reconciled to God through Christ's death and resurrection!

It's Friday, and as Norah always remembers:

  10. (Coming off of a very blessed quiet time this AM, the challenge now is to keep this post contained. God help me so to do. Here goes.)

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity (Day Seven). Scripture Lesson for the week Acts 27:18-28:10. Today's verse, 28:3-6: Paul had gathered a bundle of brushwood and was putting it on the fire, when a viper, driven out by the heat, fastened itself on his hand. When the natives saw the creature hanging from his hand, they said to one another, 'This man must be a murderer; though he has escaped from the sea, justice has not allowed him to live.' He, however, shook off the creature into the fire and suffered no harm. They were expecting him to swell up or drop dead, but after they had waited a long time and saw that nothing unusual had happened to him, they changed their minds and began to say that he was a god.

Bad things are not suppose to happen to good people, right? So why does poor Paul have to experience a shipwreck which lands him on a remote island and then is bit by a viper (where is the love of God for Paul)? Because God so loved the people of Malta, a people who were yet to hear of His saving grace in Jesus Christ, He put His faithful servant through these traumatic experiences to set up the witness of faith. And it happened because through it all, the people of Malta had their hearts and minds opened to the good news they would now hear from Paul (who remained true to his calling in spite of the circumstances). They would embrace it and believe, adding them to the family of God and the delight of all heaven. When God chose Abraham and ultimately, the nation of Israel, it was so He could reveal His love to and through them so all the world would ultimately believe. In Jesus Christ, both Jew and non Jew, a.k.a., the Church, are chosen to be the ones through whom God now makes His witness to the world of His love for it. Each of our circumstances and situations are a part of that witness being made, just as Paul's were as we have read in the book of Acts. As the Serenity Prayer starts out, "Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change..." If there be any truth for us in Paul's experience, is it that the 'things that cannot be changed' are because God is making a witness unto His saving love through what we are called to endure? For anyone who has signed on to the faith so life would get easier, the point has been missed. It is through challenges, difficulties, and even sufferings that God makes His witness to the world. Being one in Christ, the unity of the Church, contains many challenges, difficulties, and sufferings...but it is His prayer for us (John 17:21). We need each other (and have each other). Together, we are empowered to do as the Father's wills us to do, to be the ones through whom God can let the world know how much He loves everyone. God be with you.

    2. Wonderful Bob! God often uses our suffering to show others the strength of our faith so they will open their hardened hearts to the Lord. God uses us as His instruments of love and peace. 12. JOINING INTO WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY 2021
Day 7, Growing in Unity: “I am the vine, you are the branches” (John 15:5a)
    Scripture
    1 Corinthians 1:10-13; 3:21-23, Is Christ divided?
John 17:20-23, As you and I are one
    Meditation
On the eve of his death, Jesus prayed for the unity of those the Father gave him: “that they may all be one... so that the world may believe.” Joined to him, as a branch is to the vine, we share the same sap that circulates among us and vitalizes us.

Each tradition seeks to lead us to the heart of our faith: communion with God, through Christ, in the Spirit. The more we live this communion, the more we are connected to other Christians and to all of humanity. Paul warns us against an atti- tude that had already threatened the unity of the first Christians: absolutizing one’s own tradition to the detriment of the unity of the body of Christ. Differences then be- come divisive instead of mutually enrich- ing. Paul had a very broad vision: “All are yours, and you are of Christ, and Christ is of God.” (1 Corinthians 3:22-23)

Christ’s will commits us to a path of unity and reconciliation. It also commits us to unite our prayer to his: “that they may all be one... so that the world may believe.” (John 17:21)

    Prayer
Holy Spirit, vivifying fire and gentle breath, come and abide in us. Renew in us the passion for unity so that we may live in awareness of the bond that unites us in you. May all who have put on Christ at their Baptism unite and bear witness together to the hope that sustains them. Amen,

Day 8, Reconciling with all of creation: “So that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete” (John 15:11)
    Scripture
Colossians 1:15-20, In him all things hold together
Mark 4:30-32, As small as a mustard seed
    Meditation
The hymn to Christ in the epistle to the Colossians invites us to sing the praise of God’s salvation, which encompasses the entire universe. Through the crucified and risen Christ, a path of reconciliation has been opened up; creation too is destined for a future of life and peace.

With the eyes of faith, we see that the kingdom of God is a reality that is very close but still very small, hardly visible – like a mustard seed. However, it is grow- ing. Even in the distress of our world the Spirit of the Risen One is at work. He en- courages us to become involved – with all people of good will – in tirelessly seeking justice and peace, and ensuring the earth is once again a home for all creatures.

We participate in the work of the Spirit so that creation in all its fullness may con- tinue to praise God. When nature suffers, when human beings are crushed, the Spirit of the risen Christ – far from allowing us to lose heart – invites us to become part of his work of healing.

The newness of life that Christ brings, however hidden, is a light of hope for many. It is a wellspring of reconciliation for the whole of creation and contains a joy that comes from beyond ourselves: “so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete.” (John 15:11)

    Prayer
Thrice-holy God, we thank you for having created and loved us. We thank you for your presence in us and in creation. May we learn to look upon the world as you look upon it, with love. In the hope of this vision, may we be able to work for a world where justice and peace flourish, for the glory of your name. Amen.

  15. Amen Janet. Joining in your beautiful prayer!
We must stay tuned in to the Holy Spirit’s gentle nudging, and not allow ourselves to be led by our emotions or the need to please other people.
Pleasing God should be our greatest aim.
We must all pray His Spirit will guide President Biden to lead our Nation into peace, pure love, healing, renewal and restoration. And may God’s Spirit guide His people to treat others with the same love, mercy and kindness, that we receive from Him.
Thank you Father for helping us to be more receptive to Your voice and Will. Thank you for Your unchanging and unconditional love. Amen.

  16. “Peace is the treasure of treasures.” It sure is!
Loving Father, Thank You for purchasing this Peace for me, not as the world gives, but as You gave! Thank You Father, that no one outside of You, is equipped to handle my issues. Thank You that Your Peace allows me to find courage, hope, and strength in You and Your Word. Turning the eyes of my heart to Jesus (as in Helen Lemmel’s classic hymn), contains an exciting truth and an unshakable peace that is available to me. In Phil 4: 6-7, Paul admonishes believers to: “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the PEACE of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
Thank You Lord for Your unshakable Peace because there has never been a time or event when You have felt disturbed. Your Peace is sure and immovable.
King David wrote Psalm 91 at one of the most difficult times in his life. How did he find the strength to pen this at a time when Saul was trying to kill him? He knew You Lord, to be his refuge and fortress, and he had this divine, unshakable peace in him and knew it was Your responsibility, so he allowed You to protect him.
Like King David, I too seek that same unshakable Peace, that is a Fruit of Oneness with You. Thank You for blessings my life with Your gift of Salvation. Thank You for Jesus, the Holy Spirit and for being Lord of my life.

“The LORD lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.” Num. 6:26

Peace I leave with you; My [perfect] peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be afraid. [Let My perfect peace calm you in every circumstance and give you courage and strength for every challenge.] John 14:27.

May the songs, praise and worship today, fill your hearts with His Love and Peace.

  20. So many of our friends and dear ones are going through hard times right now. Praying they will stand strong and know their help comes from the Lord. Take your heavy burdens to the Lord and leave them there. Lighten your load because He is Almighty. I have done this so many times and each time He has safely brought me through. Sometimes things didn't go as I had hoped but I emerged strong, renewed and hopeful because I stand on Christ, the Rock that never moves. I know He is holding my tomorrows so I will not worry about them. I had the sweetest moment tonight right after my family had eaten, I gave baby Nathaniel his bottle and he looked into my eyes with those beautiful trusting eyes. It blessed my heart. What great joy is found in those simple ordinary blessings. Thank You Jesus. I am thankful to be a big part of my son's family. They need me to watch the kids early so I'm going to catch up on some sweet sleep. Rest well dear Family and have a wonderful new day in His presence. Looking forward to more victories from our faithful God. And even in the valley times, He is right by our sides. I loved this from today's devotion:

  26. "spiritual blessings come wrapped in trials."
Wow! Amen! What a wonderful way to look at trials.
Reminds me of gift wrap. The wrap needs to be gotten through to get to the gift; which is always of far greater value than the wrapping. The Spiritual Gift is of far greater even eternal value than the trial, which as Paul says is momentary.
2 Corinthians 4:17 " This light, temporary nature of our suffering is producing for us an everlasting weight of glory, far beyond any comparison."
The trial like the wrapping paper disguises, the gift. We can't actually see what awaits until we get through the trial/wrapping. But when we get through it, we receive the gift of the giver.
James 1:17 " Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow".

of healing and restoration and I thank You for the miracles you still perform today. Pour out the power of Christ to bring about healing and restoration over Butterfly Love and Audra's daughter. Let Your guardian angels carefully watch over them now.

And my Papa, American needs prayer like never before. Anarchy is raising its ugly head in our towns and cities. Defunding our police and first responders seems to be a popular thing. This puts innocent citizens and our first responders at grave risk of harm. Rather than crime being punished, it is ignored. Lawlessness has gained a foothold and the very existence of our nation is a stake. But know, the greatest power on earth is the power of prayer!. And praying the WORD is the most high prayer. So I declare: "When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him," (Isaiah 59:19). Thank you, Papa, that You will proctect us from satans lies. We believe Your Words:
Ye are of God little children and have overcome them for greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world. 1 John 4:4
Our God is above all. This world is fallen but our He is Supreme and we shall overcome. He fights our battles. The devil tries to trip us when we are vulnerable but God is our strength and He is mighty to save. He is our refuge, our strong tower, our shield, our Rock, our Almighty King.
Amen: The greatest power on earth is the power of prayer!
Let us continue to pray without ceasing, read His Word every day and stand together on the Rock that never crumbles. Hallelujah!

  32. Took this sentence from today's devotion: Thank Me when things do not go your way, because spiritual blessings come wrapped in trials.
God wants us to be blessed and healthy and happy because we belong to Him and we are dearly loved. He doesn't give us illnesses but sometimes He allows them for His purposes. The thief comes to destroy and kill but we know that Jesus came that we might have life and have it more abundantly. And we also know that God is so much greater than he that is in the world and also greater than our infirmities, situations and problems! I have been thanking God that I'm healthy and strong and He and I are working together to heal my cancer. He is already healing me. He is able to do Anything and I am in Him and He is in me. Such a blessing and a comfort. Let us not get discouraged when things are not as we wish they were. God is just perfecting us through our trials. He's testing us as we trust in Him and in His Words and promises. I'm in the Word and wearing my Armor and He's standing by my side. I'm resting in His Mighty Hands. It doesn't get any better than that. I have my MRI today. God helped me yesterday. As I was praying, His Spirit really nudged me to call the doctor that had closed up the hole in my heart in 12/2/20 and find out if the the mesh closure device would be affected by the MRI. I immediately called and got his secretary who took down all the information and said she would give it to my doctor. Two minutes later the phone rang. It was from the Imaging department coordinator about my MRI tomorrow. He said he needed an Op. Report from my ASD closure procedure to find out if my closure mesh device was compatible to their MRI machine. Wow!!!! I thanked God for being so alert. I simply called back the secretary and gave her the Fax number and she promised to fax the report right away. This is how God is looking out for me and leading me step by step. He knew I would need that report so He told me to call them and alert them that I'm getting an MRI. Such a blessing to see the Lord's promises in action. Hallelujah!

    Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
    And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.

    Proverbs 4:20-22
    My son, give attention to my words;
Incline your ear to my sayings.
    Do not let them depart from your eyes;
    Keep them in the midst of your heart;
For they are life to those who find them,
And health to all their flesh.

    2 Corinthians 1:20
For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.

The lady that I care for named Norma has cancer. She has terminal cancer and she has had it for almost 3 years now. I've been working for her now for a little over a year and she has had multiple miraculous healing in that time. She had to stop chemo back in July/August because she was rushed to the hospital with pneumonia and then almost died from an obstruction in her bowels. The LORD brought her back. He is so amazing!!! She had made the decision to not take chemo anymore because of all the side effects that has happened to her body in all that time. She would have had to continue taking it for the rest of her life. She is stronger and healthier now than I have ever seen her. The power of prayer and God's grace and love are so important. We must never give up or give in. For fans of “A Shepherd Looks At Psalm 23” - THE BUMMER LAMB
Every once in a while, an ewe will give birth to a lamb and reject it. There are many reasons she may do this. Most often, they are the smallest lambs in a group of triplets, though sometimes their mother may have died or otherwise not be able to feed the lamb.
These little lambs will hang their heads so low that it looks like something is wrong with its neck. These lambs are called “bummer lambs.” Unless the shepherd intervenes, that lamb will die. So, do you know what the shepherd does?
He takes that rejected little one into his home, hand-feeds it and keeps it warm by the fire. He will wrap it up with blankets and hold it to his chest so the bummer can hear his heartbeat. Once the lamb is strong enough, the shepherd will place it back in the field with the rest of the flock.
But that sheep never forgets how the shepherd cared for him. When the shepherd calls for the flock, guess who runs to him first? That is right, the bummer sheep. It knows his voice intimately.
It is not that the bummer lamb is loved more, it just knows intimately the one who loves it and has experienced that love one on one.
Some of us may have been bummer lambs, rejected and broken. But the good Shepherd cares for us.

Also, please pray for my dear friend, Martha. We've been friends since 1974. She has a blood clot and tomorrow goes to see a Vascular Surgeon. Please pay that he sees what she needs.
    So tired.
Love and Prayers for all of you 'night owls,' who may still be up!

  47. Please say a prayer for my cousin Joe who just received a colon cancer diagnosis. They will be doing a CT scan and MRI to find out the stage he is in. The cancer was discovered by a colonoscopy. His dad passed away with colon cancer as well. I pray in the powerful Name of Jesus that when they run the other tests that there will be a miracle and he will be cancer free! Please keep his wife, kids and other family in your prayers as they all travel this journey together! Thanks everyone! ❤️🙏

  53. Calling all Prayer Warriors to cover little Eli with prayers. He’s being rushed to the ER because he’s in terrible pain and can’t keep anything down even his meds. Thank You dear Father God for removing his pain, destroying his tumor, and finding a doctor that You have equipped to turn this 8 yr old’s condition around to good. Heal him and give him and his family peace of mind and comfort, and miraculously return him to perfect health in the Name of Christ Jesus. Amen.

    Matthew 11:28-30
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light
