Jesus Calling: April 18

Peace is My continual gift to you. It flows abundantly from My throne of grace. Just as the Israelites could not store up manna for the future but had to gather it daily, so it is with My Peace. The day-by-day collecting of manna kept My people aware of their dependence on Me. Similarly, I give you sufficient Peace for the present, when you come to me by prayer and petition with thanksgiving. If I gave you permanent Peace, independent of My Presence, you might fall into the trap of self-sufficiency. May that never be!
I have designed you to need Me moment by moment. As your awareness of your neediness increases, so does your realization of My abundant sufficiency. I can meet every one of your needs without draining My resources at all. Approach My throne of grace with bold confidence, receiving My Peace with a thankful heart.

Exodus 16:14-20
English Standard Version (ESV)

14 And when the dew had gone up, there was on the face of the wilderness a fine, flake-like thing, fine as frost on the ground. 15 When the people of Israel saw it, they said to one another, “What is it?” For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, “It is the bread that the Lord has given you to eat. 16 This is what the Lord has commanded: ‘Gather of it, each one of you, as much as he can eat. You shall each take an omer, according to the number of the persons that each of you has in his tent.’” 17 And the people of Israel did so. They gathered, some more, some less. 18 But when they measured it with an omer, whoever gathered much had nothing left over, and whoever gathered little had no lack. Each of them gathered as much as he could eat. 19 And Moses said to them, “Let no one leave any of it over till the morning.” 20 But they did not listen to Moses. Some left part of it till the morning, and it bred worms and stank. And Moses was angry with them.

Philippians 4:6-7, 19
ESV

do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
19 And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

Hebrews 4:16
ESV

16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

My Prayer
Lord, I come to you for answers in my life. Instead of worrying, I look to you. Thank you for the peace that you give so freely. Thank you for providing for my needs. Provide for everyone's needs. Help me to know this.

  1. Again, a timely Word, though it was 3 years ago! Thank you, for taking the time to type out these verses and share your heart. I have a prayer request for a test I have on Friday. This writing about Peace will help me stay my mind on God's Word instead of fear of the unknown. And I know whoever reads this will be praying with me during the prep that leads up to it. Thank you!

  2. Peace can be with you today, because He is taking care of your needs today. And then tomorrow, we can rest in His peace again. Seems simple! Promise made and a promise kept by our Lord each day, hour, or minute! Our goal is to stop and remind ourselves of His promise and/or to stop and pray until we feel His peace during whatever trial comes along in the hours ahead... today.

Wouldn't it be grand if we truly believed and lived this way each day? Godspeed and Peace be with you today and always! Amen.

There is no question, we need to protect the physically weak and the elderly. Let us do so in new ways, but allow low risk employees back to full-time work soon. In Jesus name. Amen.

    3. So much appreciate the spirit of your heart, MadFox. While so many people want to get back to doing the things they like to do, your concern for those with greater needs makes your prayer more in the spirit to which we are called to pray. If we pray for others as you have suggested, we are likely to find our own needs met in the process. God be with you.

    4. Thanks Bob. Just before going to bed, in my prayer time last night, I realize how blessed I am. While my children fear me going on volunteer runs to provide sewn materials for our church's efforts to make n95 mask covers that meet medical guidelines, I try to persuade them that this too shall pass. And while I'm 61, with no underlying health conditions, I'm just not going to live in fear and I also won't live cavalierly either with regard to masks, gloves etc.

However, there is no question the biggest problem now is the aftermath of unemployment, broken dreams of biz owners, and the taste of authoritarianism that some governors and mayor's are exhibiting. Thus in my mind, our prayers need to be to find a drug that absolutely eradicates the virus and then a recognition that we need to re-engage our economy. And, China's leaders should absolutely be held accountable for their pride and inaction to tell the world.

    11. Self sufficiency… in a world that judges you based on how self sufficient one is, how much wealth, prestige etc have you obtained?… All chasing after being better than their neighbor rather than living for the LORD, and relying solely on HIM . Of course we have to have some degree of self sufficiency in order to obtain a job , home, raise a family etc but none of those, without CHRIST at the center of all efforts and actions proceeding the procurement of such things are possible and even once achieved or obtained we must still keep our beloved Savior at the forefront of our minds with continued prayers for guidance, repentance if necessary, and especially thanksgiving, for nothing is achieved through just ourselves, for the LORD & HIS FATHER, our FATHER, are always working in our lives! Hallelujah.
I praise YOU LORD for another day, and for my beautiful children, my loved ones, family, brothers and sisters in Christ, my beloved E, and his family, I continue to lift him up to YOU dear LORD, help bring him rest and solace in this most difficult time, keep him close to YOU LORD, as I know he seeks to be close to YOU, please also provide solace for his family
I also lift my daughter up to YOU LORD, as she struggles to find her way, she too loves YOU LORD (hallelujah!!!🙏❤️) and seeks YOUR council, lead her LORD in the direction YOU have willed for her, help her to find a position that provides her not only a living wage but also one where she can shine, using her many skills and talents. I thank YOU LORD for my life and all YOU have blessed me with, help me to stay on the straight and narrow path dear LORD, as I only want to serve YOU, alert me of any hidden sins so I may repent and turn away from them, I praise YOU for continuing to remove these worldly chains link by link. I give myself to YOU today and always, surrendering my life and will to YOU. I love YOU YAWEH & YESHUA, with every part of my being.
Please protect the innocent ones in these wars, please protect the innocent children that are being treated like property, LORD lead me to do YOUR Will, I ask all of this through YOUR precious son, our savior, YESHUA,

  9. Heavenly Father, Thank You for another day of dependence on You and not that of self-sufficiency. I need You every hour, please grant me peace into my soul that passes all worldly understanding and make me a light for others to see Your strength, in Jesus name.

We are blessed to have Peace as God’s continual gift to us. His gift of peace to us is free, but sometimes we struggle to feel it. This world can’t give us peace, but the Lord Himself establishes peace with Himself through the death of His Son Jesus. For those who are in Christ find peace reigning with one another because of their mutual relationship to God through Christ. When we accept His peace, it stands guard and keeps worry from corroding our hearts and unworthy thoughts from tearing up our minds. This is the kind of peace we should really desire, a peace that deals with the past and a peace that governs the present.
In John 14:27, Jesus said “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you, not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled nor let it be fearful..” Jesus gives believers an inner peace that is unlike anything that the world can offer. With this peace, our hearts cannot be troubled, but it will be at rest. The Son of God said we could have His peace. He said this as He approached the saddest day in all history and the most tragic event ever, through the suffering and death on the cross for us! He had peace enduring suffering for us and left that peace with us!
We can have this peace only if we have accepted peace with God that comes through Jesus Christ (Romans 5:1). And this is possible only because Christ, as the Prince of peace, has established peace through His own death on the cross.

Dear Father, Thank You for Your gift of peace. Help us to reflect, and discover Your best for us because we have that divine potential. We thank You for the spirit of that joyful resurrection morning that still lingers within us. May we continue to celebrate the Savior and find more purpose, Joy, direction and the Peace that He left with us, because we’re in need of His peace and truth to soothe our hearts and spirits at a time like this. We ask this on Jesus name.

Peace be unto you today and always!

    2. Thank you for your encouragement dear sister! Taking this with me: When we accept His peace, it stands guard and keeps worry from corroding our hearts and unworthy thoughts from tearing up our minds. The peace which transcends all understanding is our most cherished possession. We must guard it above all other things. As long as we stay in the Lord's presence and peace, even the greatest hardship will not be greater that our Lord's power. We will overcome with His Help. Trusting in His promises and resting in His peace.
Such a beautiful statement Bob. I will open the doors of my heart to His peace. I must empty all the unnecessary chaff and open my heart to all the blessings and treasures He bestows on me, those things that never fade away.

    3. Ditto, LJ, my tiny business is sinking fast. Today's reading about receiving only the manna I need for today, means I have to step out in faith believing in God's infinite resources for tomorrow. Although I know this should not be so challenging for me, if I am to be truthful about what God sees in my heart, then I have to admit that this is a challenge for me. Thank You God, that today, in You, I have enough. Help me meet the challenge of letting You take care of my tomorrows, reminded "Each of them gathered as much as he could eat that day." 19 And Moses said to them, “Let everyone eat all they gathered before the morning.”  Show trust in the Lord's infinite supply day by day. My 3 year old had Leukemia and was going for a spinal tap, a good friend told me to read that scripture and that peace is what I needed and yearned for. From that day on, I went to Bible Study and studied His Word. That was 23 years ago and His Word and His Promises are true. We will go through trials and turmoil in this world but God turns it all around for the good. Romans 8:28 “We are in this world but not of it” John 17:16

    1. Thanks for your story, Imac. If ever there was a time I was most shaken in my faith, it was when our oldest daughter was very sick. I drove home from the hospital wondering if I could ever serve a God who let something happen to our child. Upon reaching home, we received a phone call from a member of the church. She said she had heard our daughter had been hospitalized. She shared a time her child was in a similar condition and she reassured us our daughter was going to be fine (and she was). An angel is a messenger from God to share something God wants us to know. That parishioner served as an angel that day with a message I needed so to hear.

  16. EASTER SATURDAY

(Mark 16:9-15) The women are telling us they saw Jesus alive. Two of our friends of Emmaus tell us about encountering Jesus on their return home. This is all too good to be true. I am afraid to believe it because I don't want to have my hopes dashed again. I am protecting my heart because it got hurt so badly seeing Him crucified. I want to believe but I am afraid. The disciples and I are together to comfort each other and all of a sudden He appears to us. I have to admit I am a bit frightened by supernatural experiences but there He is right in front of me. He looks at me in love. "Let your heart believe and trust, do not be afraid. Stop trying to understand everything, just accept the unexplainable and proceed in trust. I have called you to go into the world and proclaim the good news to the whole of creation." My heart is working on this and I am willing to trust. May the Spirit help me so to do.

In this incident with the disciples, there is the constant struggle we all face to mesh our mind and our heart. I pick that up in many of the daily posts. The JC readings call us out into the deep and doubts come in our thinking. Will it work, I ask. At one very crucial time in my life I asked that question of God. He responded, "Try Me." I gulped and proceed to do just that. What a glorious experience I had that became an opportunity to proclaim in both action and deed, the love of God for all. When it was done, the Lord said to me, "I never want you to question again if My way will work." Humbly I responded, "Yes Lord."

Be willing to go to wherever He calls you to be. It may make no sense but He has a plan in mind. Practice regularly what the JC readings admonish you to do, for they take you out of your mind and into your heart where the action is. God be with you. With love, Bob

  17. Third time's the charm.

The world and its failings are often the driver of our human existence and path... the current pandemic illustrates this in real terms of pain and suffering. But, with God holding our hand, we can be spectators daily of how He and we, as His instruments of love, can literally change the world. With God all things are possible, thus the pandemic, of man's doing and failings, is now a path for God to show His love and a way to heal through His people of faith. I'm confident a solution to return to normal is in our future. May we be messengers of that healing and live confidently in that reality.

    2. well it still didn't post as a reply to your post which was my intent. Agree with your narrative from the 1st century applying 20 later! we are the instruments of Jesus' plan for the world, and this pandemic is a time for Christians to show it!

    3. Your words, MadFox, still ring true. With God all things are possible. Even now with the threat of new strains, and some problems with the vaccines, I am so hopeful, having had both my shots. I have had the pleasure of seeing old friends, who also had both their shots. It felt so normal and we were blessed by God's faithfulness. Amen We are the messengers sent out to spread God's healing, love and comfort everyday.

Thank You God for calling me into Your Private Dressing Room, the only place where I can change. Alone with You, You heard my need. I listened with close attention as You taught me how to discern the difference between Voices of Conviction and voices of condemnation by considering in which direction the voice is goading me. All voices either lead me toward You or away from You. Thank You for Your Private Tutoring Session, during which I learned that the purpose of the voice of condemnation (including guilt, fear, unforgiveness, negativity, comparison, etc)  is to push me away from Your Presence, which is The Only Source of my Victory.

Conversely, the purpose  of the Voice of Conviction (Freedom to follow the leading of God's Spirit, Steadfastness, Forgiveness, Positivity, Gratitude, etc.) is to allow me and others to more deeply press into The Face of Christ. Please help me to only use my voice for Conviction, for allowing myself and others Freedom to follow the leading of God's Holy Spirit, for Steadfastness, for Forgiveness, for Positivity, and for Gratitude. In Jesus Name. I ask. I seek. I knock. I praise. I thank. Amen.

    1. Well said dear sister! Let us discern between the voices that threaten to separate us from our great God, and the voice that draws us near to Him. Be still and know that I am God. He is above all things and His small sweet voice is the only one we should seek and listen carefully too. He never promised we wouldn't suffer but He did promise He would never leave us through our trials and problems. I'm gonna follow after righteousness and spirit and His lead above all.

But may the God of all grace,
who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus,
after you have suffered a while,
perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.

I'm contemplating the idea that conviction can sound like condemnation as I listened to people I love debate facts, theory, policy and practice surrounding Covid. Never in my 65+ years have I been challenged to "knowing" how to handle choices like those of late. Help me Jesus, please. Show me the clarity I long for. Cast away the devil who looks to drive wedges in my most precious relationships. Thank you Jesus!

  19. THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER

Traditionally known as such because historically, the Church has designated the seven Sundays leading up to Pentecost, Eastertide. Are you still smelling the lilies?

Today I have been asked to preach at a retirement center (no, it is not online). I will use the traditional passage for the 3rd Sunday of Easter, Luke 24:26-48. It is the conclusion to what happened on the first Easter. Much as in John, Jesus appeared to the disciples as they were gathered. In order to convince them of His resurrection, He gave them the opportunity to see and touch the wounds He received in His crucifixion. Luke even tells us Jesus ate in the presence of His disciples to convince them they were experiencing His resurrected body and not an apparition.

Have you ever wished you could have the experience the disciples had? That you could actually validate this whole story so you could know it is true? In difficult times, that easily can be our tendency out of our frail human nature. Well, He did it for His disciples and they went on to tell us what they witnessed so we could know it is all true. And whenever we are willing to trust it to be true and step out in faith to live by it, then each time we will get to touch His wounds and see Him alive and well, not with the eyes in our head, but with the eyes of the heart. We can validate all that we read in the scriptures by trusting and obeying, then and only then we will know beyond a shadow of a doubt it is all true. We, then, are called to go forth and be witnesses to what we have experienced of God.

Have a blessed worship this 3rd Sunday of Easter. God be with you. With love, Bob

    2. I have so often wished I could have had the experiences that the disciples had. I have also wished I could have been among the people who heard Jesus preach. His sermons must have ignited their hearts with love for Him. I wish I could have walked with Him and seen His beautiful face, and gazed into His eyes that I am sure reflect Heaven. Amen I can see Him alive with the eyes of my heart. Sometimes when I'm lying in bed, I ask Him to let me see Him in my dreams. I imagine Him walking to me on a beach with just the two of us there. Or walking down a forest path and seeing Him sitting looking at the water and I go to sit with Him, but I can never see His face clearly. Guess I will just have to wait till that glorious day when I can look upon His Face.

    3. Jeanne, I do believe that He comes to us in our dreams. He has come to me in mine. If you ask Him to come into your dreams and you are sincere, He will. Also, ask Him to help you remember it when you wake up. Pray without ceasing. He always answers. God bless you.

  23. Good Morning, JC Family. It is a beautiful, clear skied, sunny morning and I am thankful: for the rest I received, the blessings you provide in your posts and the Truth of Your Word that is at our finger tips, in our minds, hearts and present for the asking.
Waking early, praying in the Spirit for all of my loved ones, for myself to 'step up' and trust with all of my heart. I come to this site and read the many scriptures, teachings, reminders, prayers. It is calm, quiet and peaceful.
Picturing the blessed body of Believers as they hear your words this morning, Bob. Picturing you, Jeanne, in the after-glow of your Dear Daughter in Love's birthday party. How blessed she is to have you in her life - all of your offspring are! I pray with you for their increased hunger for His Word in their lives - just as I pray for all of mine. Hearing my youngest Grandson's words yesterday when he came running in our house, "I've missed you SO much!" We just saw them Wed night but they hadn't been to our house for a week. Precious Littles who love so freely. Praying for my youngest son's continued healing; the things he's learned through this past surgery, the wisdom he is receiving from God. He may not realize it, but he is teaching me by his example. When we are meek to receive, there are truths all around us to glean.
Enjoy this day, in His Peace - receive it as the gift it is. Praying for all of my 'peeps,' their daunting issues that only God can relieve them of. Let me be Your Light today, Lord. Order my steps in Your Word; keep me calm and steady and productive in that Peace. Bless my DH for all of his goodness with health, continued steadiness and bless our MadFox as he grows stronger every day and knows from whence that strength comes.
Enjoy this day that we have been given - don't 'think' it away by focusing on tomorrow.
Love and Blessings to each and every one of you.

Continuing to hold dear Chuck in my prayers. I know God continues to heal him from within. You are learning from him as he learns from you. Amen: When we are meek to receive, there are truths all around us to glean!
Praying for all of you and your DH and Dottie, and our MadFox and Jan and JJ and Maplewood and Brie and Janet and BFF and LCA and Terri and Kathy and Choose Joy, and Min Ahadi and Bob and Audra and her husband and Sassy Mom and Mark and Rose her family and all of my family who need healing right now. Again, for me, morning reflection and prayer, I feel God's presence more. ?? NOT that He isn't with me throughout the day, He is, the morning stillness with him is just so much more intimate. So glad you had that this morning! Thank you for your insight and reflection, dear Norah! Blessings to you and your family as well as all of our JC family and, yes, continued strength for our MadFox, and guidance and direction for Janet! Love you all and appreciate each and every one of you!

  25. Dear friends, I thought I had posted a request, but I don’t see it. I love the message....do not be anxious about anything, but in prayer and supplication make your requests known to God....Once again, I ask for prayers for my 43 year old daughter who was diagnosed with advanced colon cancer last summer. She has been taking chemo ever since and it has been very effective. On April 22, the Mayo tumor review board that consists of many specialists will meet to decide if she can have further treatment such as surgery/radiation etc. She very much wants the cancer to be GONE, ERADICATED from her body, and wants them to be very aggressive in her treatment. Will you please pray for the Holy Spirit’s guidance for each one of the doctors to come up with the very best plan for her total healing? And for peace and thanksgiving for her family as we wait. We are so grateful for her healing so far....and know that nothing is too difficult for God. With a grateful heart, Thanks so much!

  34. So I’m here again, needing prayers for my son. He was released after a week of being in the phych ward. My oldest daughter, his sister, is the only family he really has to stay with. 1 week is not enough to get the help he really needs.
So if you can please pray the new dr he is going to gives hm the help he needs, or finds him a group home for him.
He needs a structural environment with lots of support but doesn’t need to be locked away.
So I’m come to you tonight to ask for him to get the help he needs.
I’m also asking for myself so I can have some mental peace. I can’t handle him and it makes me feel like a failure as a mom cause I can’t help him.
I get so frustrated with him cause if he would just listen to me he would be ok.
    Mainly with taking his meds.
I want to thank you in advance and for all previous prayers as this is mot the first time asking for my son, Robbie to get help.
I hope you all have a blessed day.

  36. Thank you so much for your prayers. I had misunderstood about Jessie's appointment yesterday. Her boyfriend was telling me she might have to have the surgery and then he said to pray it all goes well. He told me she needed prayers yesterday. But I found out she just had an ultrasound of her ovaries. When I asked how it went, he said: "Only Time will Tell". We will just keep praying that the cyst is benign and small and will disappear with God's healing power. May He bring her back to perfect health.
I don't take God's peace for granted and I do guard it. So many things, responsibilities and people try to take my peace away. But God's peace is not dependent on circumstances and it is constant and sure. As the devotion says: Peace is My continual gift to you. It flows abundantly from My throne of grace.
But God wants us to come to Him to receive His peace every day. It is always there and available. We must just stay in His presence to receive it.

Romans 15:13 - Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

Jeremiah 29:11 - For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

  39. Sharing In Touch daily devotion.

    Psalm 139:7-10
Do you ever find yourself asking the question, “Lord, where are You?” Today’s reading is your reminder that God is near, even when His presence is difficult to perceive—and even when you’re completely unaware of Him.
David reflects, “Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?” (v. 7). In asking these questions, David communicates that no matter where we might go, the Lord is right there with us. What a comfort to realize we are never beyond the reach of a God who is full of lovingkindness, mercy, and comfort.
In fact, our heavenly Father is and has been with believers every single day. We walk in the presence of the living God, whose Spirit lives in us (John 14:16-17). No matter what season of life you are in—no matter how long, short, painful, or easy it might be—God wants you to know you are never alone. What’s more, He wants you to remember that the darkness is not dark to Him (Psalm 139:12). He knows what is up ahead and will be with you as you face it.
Our faithful and omnipresent God is a friend who sticks closer than a brother (Proverbs 18:24). He will never leave or forsake you—on this day or any other. Thank You Jesus.

      Psalm 139:7-10
Where can I go from Your Spirit?
Or where can I flee from Your presence?
      If I ascend into heaven, You are there;
If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there.
If I take the wings of the morning,
And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
Even there Your hand shall lead me,
And Your right hand shall hold me.

      John 14:16-17
And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.

      Psalm 139:12
Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You,
 But the night shines as the day;
The darkness and the light are both alike to You.

      Proverbs 18:24
A man who has friends must himself be friendly,
But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

  42. Today's devotion ends with: Approach My throne of grace with bold confidence, receiving My Peace with a thankful heart. We know where our peace comes from. It comes from Him Who Made Heaven and Earth. His power is above all things and all circumstances. He asks us to bring Him our Burdens. We can give Him everything so we can walk with a lighter load, and serve Him better. Driving to Brooklyn this morning. I'm seeing my eye doctor because my right eye is getting much weaker. God knows all about it and I'm trusting Him to make all things right. I'm thankful and glad I can stay another night with my mom, sister and her good husband. Rest assured that wherever we go, God's Peace goes with us. Have a blessed day in His presence. Remember to remain in it and really rest in Him. Place every worry or concern at the Throne of Grace and Leave it There.

    John 14:27
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

    Jeremiah 17:7-8
Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.

I am in the eye doctor’s office sitting in the examination chair waiting. Jesus is right here with me and I am not afraid. He knows why my right eye doesn’t see right now. So He will make it better. I’m going right to my mom’s afterwards. We are all in the Best of Hands! Let us wait on the Lord together with faith that all will be well. Soon And Very Soon.

  43. Thank you Lord for this day. You tell us to be thankful in everything, so I am thankful for the news we got yesterday about my husband’s aneurysm and the possible need for surgery as it has grown. Lord it scares him and me. It eats at him every time he gets in the car for work. He travels so much and in the back of his mind, he worries that it will
rupture while he’s driving. Lord we’ve know about the aneurysm for a couple of years now, and the doctors have watched it. We’ve known that the day might come where surgery was necessary. Please help us both to continue to thank you as scripture says to be thankful in everything. Please grant us peace as we wait for the next dr appt in a little over a week.

  46. Wonderful and needed Scriptures today, worth repeating:
Philippians 4:6-7: Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the PEACE of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
19: And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
No matter what we're going through, we are assured of His Peace.
