Jesus Calling: April 21

Let Me control your mind. The mind is the most restless, unruly part of mankind. Long after you have learned the discipline of holding your tongue, your thoughts defy your will and set themselves up against Me. Man is the pinnacle of My creation, and the human mind is wondrously complex. I risked all by granting you freedom to think for yourself. This is god-like privilege, forever setting you apart from animals and robots. I made you in my image, precariously close to deity.
Though My blood has fully redeemed you, your mind is the last bastion of rebellion. Open yourself to My radiant Presence, letting My Light permeate your thinking. When My Spirit is controlling your mind, you are filled with Life and Peace.

Genesis 1:26-27
English Standard Version
26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
27 So God created man in his own image,
    in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.

Romans 8:6
English Standard Version
For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.

Verse Thoughts - When we have trusted in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, the Spirit of God comes to live inside of us. However, we are not yet with God in paradise, instead we still have our mortal body's, living on this earth and our flesh continues to seek to only satisfy itself. The natural conclusion of living a life set on the flesh is death. The mind set on the Spirit is life and peace. This is the deception of the flesh. The flesh thinks it is alive. The flesh thinks it is about life, but in reality there is no peace in that life. There is living and going through the motions and not really thinking beyond the grave or in the afterlife or in outcomes. The mind set on the flesh is death. The mind set on the Spirit is life and peace. The Spirit is there to take us through life, not help us or assist us, but take us through life.

My Prayer (2018) - Lord, I am exhausted as my mind dwells, stares, compares, competes, is in fear, is restless, is discouraged by what I see, goes from worry to worry to worry. Bring back the joy of my salvation. Your Spirit lives inside of me. Jesus, you told me that believing in You means that I can do even greater things than what you did. Forgive me God for getting my mind off of this track and instead staring at my world around me. Instead, I want to set my mind on the Spirit. I want to resolve to be conformed to the image of Your Son. Holy Spirit, I give you my mind. Take Control.

  1. Amen. How we make life so complicated...my prayer is to trust, believe, and to not falter. Thank you Father for allowing us to control our thoughts, but we MUST not let them control us. I trust You and rest in You.

    1. Amen! Another perfect reading for this new day, a chance to begin again as I let God control my mind in Spirit. The mind set on the flesh is death. The mind set on the Spirit is life and peace. The Spirit is there to take us through life, not help us or assist us, but take us through life. This is so true. Look at all the lost sheep cloaked in masks and gloves fearing death. Be smart people, but take heart! We are just passing thru and we want you to know the joy that awaits you because of Christ Jesus. Lord, open their hearts and minds to the truth as you have so lovingly done for me. Bless each and every one today!

    1. Amen dear MadFox. It's the only way to Peace and Life. Life that is eternal. True peace only comes from above and by following hard after righteousness. You will never feel peace if you are walking against God's laws. We know what is right and what is wrong. Let us do our best to please Him in all things and live as His Spirit guides us. We are all guilty of letting our mind wander off and letting go of His Hand. But we must consciously return to our first Love. He is the only one who can fill our hearts and minds with His peace.
Dear MadFox, You have been on my mind. How are you dear Brother? How are you feeling? Are you getting stronger? Praying always for your strength and healing.

  13. "This is god-like privilege, forever setting you apart from animals and robots. I made you in my image, precariously close to deity." This statement is not channeled information, but a product of the writer's mind. God made our SOULS, our core, in His image, NOT our egos or our thoughts! The whole point is to relinquish our ego states so that we may join our purified souls to Him, which at that point reflect His image.

  16. Heavenly Father, I no longer come to You through a veil of darkness but through Your son Jesus Christ, my Savior. I ask You to put a new song into my heart so that I can praise You throughout any battle I face and grant You all the glory. Thank You for risking it all to grant me freedom to not just think for myself, but freedom to declare the gospel of Jesus Christ. Thank You for Your pure Love, I pray in Jesus name.

The battlefield of the mind is one that we all suffers from. Letting God take over, is one of the best things we can ever do. However, we can only do this by striving to change the way we think and rely on God and His words. Our thoughts can be as powerful and have impact on our emotions. Sometimes we will have loving positive or true thoughts that will yield happy emotions and actions. Likewise, when our thoughts are negative, anxious or depressive, we tend to go into the don’t feel good mode, and our actions will reflect that. Proverbs 4:23 says: “Above all else guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” The “heart” includes the mind and all that proceeds from it. We make the mistake of trying to control our thoughts through our own strength, forgetting God’s reminder in the scriptures to bring all our weaknesses to Him, who gives grace abundantly, is more effective. 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 tells us: “My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.”
The mind battle is not a quick fix, we should understand that when a thought enters our mind, we should examine it based upon God’s Word and determine if we should continue down that path or reject the thought and replace it with another thought and stay away from forming negative in our thought lives. We can also try other exercises by keeping our eyes on Jesus as in thinking about God on His throne with Christ on his right and, how He divided the heavens and earth, how he placed each star, planet and all available to us in its exact place, how He created and divided everything on land and sea.
We should stay in God’s Word so that when sinful thoughts enters our mind, we are be able to recognize it and rely on the Word like Jesus did in the wilderness (Matthew 4) when He responded to each of Satan’s temptations with Scripture that applied to the direction He knew His mind should take instead of beginning down a contrary path. Jesus recited passage to combat all of Satan’s temptations and so can we.

Dear Father, Yes we need You to control our minds. Help us to start with placing our faith in Christ as Savior and live in dependence upon the Holy Spirit, through seeking His strength through prayer (Matthew 26:41). Help us to analyze and reject negative or sinful thoughts through Your Words so that the enemy will be defeated. You have given every believer the authority to use Your Word to pull down thoughts and ideas the enemy wants to use against You. Father, may we be reminded that You will bless those who seek to honor You with what matters most to You, who we are inside and not just what we appear to be to others. Thank You for making us in Your image and filling our lives with Purpose and Peace. With Your help Jesus, we can win the Battle in our mind, so thank You. In Jesus name we pray.

  17. Romans 8:6: "For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace." Given the current pandemic, and the media's constant drumbeat about death and fear, it is as true today that an effort to focus on the Spirit, will give one peace. For in the past few weeks, for so many, it is truly the first time that they have real fears about how our future will play out. In contrast, the hardships of the believers in the 1st century were still more challenging. Often, as with Peter and Paul, there were years of imprisonment, and eventually, a martyr's death.

We, American Christians, live in a time and place, where our faith can be lived in peace. Our challenges are few, materially or spiritually, compared to the lives of the Apostles or billions of our brothers and sisters (regardless of faith or nation) that live in dire circumstances across the globe. For the first time, for many Americans, they can empathize with many in the world. My meaning here, is that we, today, may not feel like we're in control of our life, career, or finances, like many Christians throughout history, and most of the globe, currently.

Fear not, our God is "the" mighty One. He will hold your hand and walk you through this valley, this steep path, as Sarah so often writes. While the current hysteria plays out, be the light of hope to your family, friends, and neighbors. Encourage them to gain peace through Christ. God may very well use you as the vehicle for good. Take on the role of an Apostle to all you connect to... spread the good news. He has Risen, He has redeemed us all, and He loves His children! Though their folly can lead to global pandemics, He is always here in Spirit and in His believers, to show a way to have "life with peace." Amen.

  18. Amen and Amen. As we walk though our day, we must keep our eyes and mind on the Lord. We must do our best to remain in His presence where we always find true peace and comfort. Let us channel the Spirit that works mightily within us. Let us do our best to please God above ourselves. Try to serve others and be selfless instead of selfish. See that the words of our mouth and the meditations of our heart are pleasing to Him. If we are concentrating on something that separates us from God, it's time to ask Him to create in us a new heart and renew a right spirit within us. Sometimes when I realize I'm concentrating on something so trivial and not of any value to God or something bitter or useless, I just say "Jesus" and His Name brings me back to Him. We are all human and prone to unconcious thoughts. They just pop into our head through the day. Like: Oh I really should clean my closets one of these days. Or, I wonder what I should make for dinner. Whatever the thoughts, this is part of being a human being with free will. God respects a free will. But if we are thinking about something that tears us away from Him, like concentrating on the news all day, feeding our mind with fearsome thoughts, doubts and worry, that is when we are really following the flesh and not the Spirit. We must let go of that because God doesn't give us the power of fear. If we truly trust Him to lead us through this darkness, our thoughts and actions must reflect that. So, Maplewood, your wonderful words inspire me always. We sure do need God to control our minds. And studying His Word, living in His presence and standing steadfast on our faith are how we do this. It is a constant challenge but God equips us to do it. Much love to all.

    1. I still need Him to control my mind. Got a bit depressed while I was packing for our trip to Boston Thursday to meet our newest grandson. I couldn't fit into any of my clothes because of the weight I have gained this year. I felt so bad and sad. I realized that I had let go of God's Hand. I wasn't thinking that He can help me lose the weight and I am thankful that my heart is still the same. I told God that I knew He understood exactly how I felt. I will still have a wonderful time meeting my baby grandson and seeing all three grandsons together for the first time. I am so thankful for that blessing.

  20. The battlefield of the mind is a real, war effort - especially during something like what we are all living. This morning, my mind was all over the details, concerns and planning of a funeral, on Friday, during a pandemic. It makes all of the others seem simple. The meeting with the Funeral Director and family was done on Zoom. Photos are being sent electronically. The private service will have camera capabilities for those who can't attend. And the graveside service, outdoors, will have enough room for people to distance themselves. I'm already thinking about no hugs, no arms around each other, masks. No little children, reminding us of the future. But, we know our spiritual future and for that I am so thankful.
Adult children so worried about their dad (esp) and me - our health and exposure to more people than we've been around in over a month. Hurt feelings from years and years ago that they are now finding they must let go of and simply serve.
So, I grabbed my mind and prayed for wisdom: in my words, my actions and my tone of voice. I know I have free will and God will not speak 'for me,' unless I am asking for His words, which I already have many times today.
Already, several issues have been resolved and my heart is lighter. I am so thankful for the Power He wrought in us. I thank each of you for your prayers yesterday and as we get through this time like none other we've lived through. God knows and He is holding our hands.

  23. TUESDAY IN THE SECOND WEEK OF EASTER

From now until Pentecost, looking back on some of the things Jesus said that could not be fully understood until the cross and the empty tomb were experienced.

(John 3:8-15) (John continues to reflect on this incident) The conversation with Nicodemus continued. Jesus left off with, "...So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit." Nicodemus does not understand at all what Jesus is talking about though he wished he could. Jesus questioned his inability to understand as a chosen leader in the faith. The problem everyone was having was that Jesus was speaking spiritually while both Nicodemus and ourselves were bound by earthly thinking. Now that I am able to look back on that conversation, I see what Jesus was talking about. He had descended from heaven to make plain the things of God. Those who rejected Him would, of course, be rejecting things about God of which He spoke. Those who drew close to Him would be hearing eternal truths that will find a home in their heart and lead to a life filled with the glories of eternity. Jesus then made a reference to the story of Moses lifting up the serpent in the wilderness (Numbers 21:1-9) and made reference for the necessity in like fashion for the Messiah to be lifted up which now I can clearly see was a reference to His death. As the people in the desert would look up to the serpent on the pole and escape death, so, too, if someone looks to Jesus as the crucified Messiah, they will live both now and forever more. Completely bewildering to us then; so much clearer now.

(My reflections) Our JC reading above began, 'Let me control your mind...' I look at Nicodemus, a man that had a heart toward God but a mind that had become controlled by religious order. As a result, the Spirit was stifled and he was missing essential truths about God. Religion is necessary to prevent false messiahs from rising within the believing community but it can limit the movement of the Spirit when it is used to control the people as had happened in Jesus' day. Three times Nicodemus shows up in John's gospel, the last one being to assist with the burial of Jesus. Because John gives him this attention in his gospel, I will dare say, the Spirit won over Nicodemus' heart and he broke out of the religious practices that controlled him, becoming a faithful follower of our resurrected Lord. The moral of this story, we need religious practice to keep our faith accountable but the Spirit must have the freedom to guide us to the glory of God. Our JC reading above is a most helpful guide in these matters.

God be with you. With love, Bob

Heavenly Father, Thank You for the dawn of a new day. I ask that the Holy Spirit produce the right kind of thinking in me by taking control of my thoughts. I’m aware and I know that You are too of the battle that goes on in my mind and I need Jesus’ help. I know that when the Holy Spirit controls my mind, the results are peaceful, joyful and enduring. I do not want to think thoughts that are self-serving and detrimental to others, but rather think about the good things that will produce encouraging words and great attitudes. It is impossible for me to be at peace when I’m at war with Your will for my life. While the battlefield of my mind is real, it is a fight that I have been empowered to win. Lord, please let Your Spirit instruct my spirit to fill my mind with Your thoughts, and teach me to obey Your will so that I can become more like Jesus. I pray this in His name, amen.

“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.” Philippians 4:8-9.

“For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.” 2 Corinthians 10:3-5.

    Blessings and Peace.

    1. Dear Maplewood, We all have to focus our mind and heart on those things that are true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable and worthy of praise. But our humanity causes us to be pulled off track sometimes. Amen you have empowered to with the battle in your mind. Because God is greater and you live for the spirit and not the flesh. I see your beautiful heart and read your spirit ordained words every day. Today I was so blessed because after cooking for a long time I finally got a chance to take some time to walk and pray and spend some sweet time with the Lord. I thanked Him for the sun lighting such a gray day and the two birds flying. I told Him it was so kind of him to put those birds in front of me so I could watch them sail through the sky together. I thanked Him for my strength. I could feel Him with me while I was walking and I felt very loved and cared for. May the Spirit take control of our thoughts and let our thoughts, words and deeds please Him.
"Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer." Psalm 19:14

  29. JC Warriors, please pray for me. I'm on hold with the unemployment office again. They keep giving me the run around with telling me to do one thing and then telling me not to. Then they haven't responded to any of my correspondence and it took me over a month to finally speak with someone last night and she told me that I had to re apply even though they told me not to do that. So I have been on the phone since they opened and finally got through to someone and she hung up on me so now I am going through the whole process again. This is starting to frustrate me. Please pray for me. Thank you all. God bless.

    1. Praying you get some resolve accomplished in this frustrating situation. It's trying to have something so important placed in the hands of someone else. I start to get overtaken with the "what ifs". Then I remind myself what if God steps in and pleads my case for me? What if God sweeps away the one thing that is stopping things from going in your favor? What if God removes the mountain with one breath? God often does step in and clears up the mess. Other times he lets us go through the whole process so we can grow and learn. My prayer for you is that he does all the above clears it up and teaches you at the same time.

    2. You must be so frustrated because you're trying so hard to do the right things to get your problem resolved and you keep finding obstacles in your way. God is guiding you. Do not lose heart. Keep fighting the good fight. I know you will get this problem solved.
Father, You can do all things. Please guide Janet and guide the office workers to put an end to this unemployment problem. We are praying that You tie up all the loose ends and bring about a resolution of dear Janet's frustrating problem. We are praying together in the powerful Name of the Risen Lord, Jesus Christ. We trust You and thank You for Your faithfulness.

  31. I agree on the Spirit... He is described as our Helper throughout the Bible. But,I will also give Chris the benefit of the doubt, I'm thinking in the posting and his angst...plus he said he was exhausted that his thinking was a bit diverted. My prayer is that Chris has seen and felt the Helper since that time. The Spirit within is so vital to our walk hand in hand with the Father. May all who believe truly experience the Spirit and see the miracle of having a part of God in each of us. Amen.

  32. An update. I am still tracking far ahead of normal on the typical MM recovery. Yesterday, I did have a 4 hour IV of some electrolytes as the food and supplements had not brought Magnesium levels to the min. normal level. Again, I'm convinced that God has me strongly by the hand and I'm where He needs me. Needing IVs requires me to interact with the medical team and some were in need of some MadFox good cheer! Also, some very sick patients, not sure how it impacts but at a minimum, I'm able to smile and say Hello. Today, am feeling great. Please pray for Norah's husband who is ahead of me on the journey with MM. They have mentored me and he is now facing some changes. Not my news to share, except that we can pray for good results!! Father cover Norah and her husband with your Light and hold their hands as they make decisions and here about their future with MM. In Him, Amen.

The doctor put him on a medicine for a week. May God continue to heal him and Allie, and take care of the baby inside. Also my other son Greg is not feeling well. But he thinks it's just a sinus infection. Praying they all feel better soon. So many people need prayers. May God in His mercy and compassion grant our prayers and heal the sick and restore all of us, our families, our dear ones and our dear JC Family to good health of body, mind and spirit.

  50. I echo the prayer, "don't let me grumble ..." It's such an easy trap, kind of a default setting in this world and one that must grieve the heart of Him who never grumbled and gave up EVERYTHING for my salvation and freedom. Lord, forgive me again ...I don't mean to grumble, open my eyes to the wonderful escape from this trap! The name JESUS. He grounds me and lights the way for gratefulness and thankfulness in ALL situations and His perfect love casts out all fear, a main reason we grumble.
Thank you Jesus for always making a way and Holy Spirit for your direction towards that way.

THE BARRACKS WHERE CORRIE TEN BOOM and her sister, Betsy, were kept in the Nazi concentration camp Ravensbruck were terribly overcrowded and flea-infested. They had been able to miraculously smuggle a Bible into the camp, and in that Bible they had read that in all things they were to give thanks and that God can use anything for good. Betsy decided that this meant thanking God for the fleas.”
“This was too much for Corrie, who said she could do no such thing. Betsy insisted, so Corrie gave in and prayed to God, thanking Him even for the fleas.”
“Over the next several months a wonderful, but curious, thing happened: They found that the guards never entered their barracks. This meant that the women were not assaulted. It also meant that they were able to do the unthinkable, which was to hold open Bible studies and prayer meetings in the heart of a Nazi concentration camp. Through this, countless numbers of women came to faith in Christ. Only at the end did they discover why the guards had left them alone and would not enter into their barracks: it was because of the fleas.”
“Give thanks to God for every good and perfect gift (James 1:17), but also thank Him for how He will use all things for good in the lives of those who trust Him (Romans 8:28).”
      In Jesus' Name. AMEN πŸ™
