Jesus Calling: February 15

Come to Me with all your weaknesses: physical, emotional, and spiritual. Rest in the comfort of My Presence, remembering that nothing is impossible with Me.
Pry your mind away from your problems so you can focus your attention on Me. Recall that I am able to do immeasurably more than all you ask or imagine. Instead of trying to direct Me to do this and that, seek to attune yourself to what I am already doing.
When anxiety attempts to wedge its way into your thoughts, remind yourself that I am your Shepherd. The bottom line is that I am taking care of you; therefore, you needn't be afraid of anything. Rather than trying to maintain control over your life, abandon yourself to My will. Thought this may feel frightening--even dangerous, the safest place to be is in My will.

Luke 1:37
English Standard Version
For nothing will be impossible with God.

Ephesians 3:20-21
English Standard Version
Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

Psalm 23:1-4
English Standard Version
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

We often look at our needs or circumstances and think there is no hope. But, if we started with the Lord, then we would begin with a focus on Him and Him carrying us through life and therefore, our needs and circumstances wouldn't be insurmountable. And then they wouldn't be impossible. We get so wrapped in what we see and forget that God is there and He is working. Rather than trying to get Him to align Himself with us, we need to get ourselves aligned with Him.

We must never get His power and His power in us as we surrender to Him. Again, we want to Him to bless what we have versus seeing what we have as a blessing from Him. Do I start with me or do I start with Him? Let God be glorified and praised because God is at work and His power is working through me, so what seems unlikely is because I'm looking at it through my eyes instead of His.

Sheep just live and accept their lot. They don't want. Because they trust their shepherd and His provision. And He provides greenery, water, sustenance for life. He sets me on the right course. Trials will come, tough times will be there, but no need to fear, for He is with me, there to comfort me.

My Prayer
Lord, thank you for the reminder that You are there. Forgive me Lord for trying to determine my way. Help me instead to submit and surrender to You and accept what You provide. You are indeed able to do more than I can imagine. Thank you for being my shepherd.

  1. "Instead of trying to direct Me to do this and that, seek to attune yourself to what I am already doing......" In my humaness, I am always seking to control and fix a situation. Help me to TRUST and see that there is a plan already in place. It's the best plan. I just need ot be open and accepting. I am grateful!

    1. I still struggle with getting God to bless "my plans" rather than getting behind God and knowing that His plans for me are already blessed! Praying that I can continue to accept the story that has been written specifically for me! My gratefulness continues! Amen.

    2. Me too! I need this reminder every day as He brings me the people and circumstances to bring me closer to Him, not the ones that necessarily make my life easier or solve the problems I think I have. "His power is working through me, so what seems unlikely is because I'm looking at it through my eyes instead of His." Truth. -audra

    10. Thank you dear Sassy Mom, GTT, Mindy, Audra, Loveconquersall and Brie!! Rick was happily surprised by your Happy Birthday wishes. I read every one to him! He thought it was very nice of all of you to wish him a happy one!
I have such good news! When our son, his wife and little 2 year old Gabriel came over. my son Greg told me to take off his hoodie because he was hot. Underneath it was a tshirt that said "Best Brother". I was confused and then I looked at my dear sister in love and asked: "You're having another baby?" She said "Yes" in September! We were so surprised and so overjoyed! We are so blessed to have two more grandbabies on the way. Our youngest son and wife will be having their second son in April. What a wonderful Birthday present to my husband and a glorious gift to me! I just kept thanking God for another beautiful blessing!
Audra! You were right and God was so faithful! I got a call from my doctor's wife that he couldn't make our appointment which freed up so much time. Not only did my back feel better but everything got done and the cake came out really nice. We all ate too much and enjoyed ourselves.
Thanks Loveconquersall! You are so sweet to be concerned that I might do too much. I'm going to sleep early tonight.
Thanks Brie! Our day was certainly filled with God's blessings. I only had a few little things for Rick but he had a wonderful day and we shared a lot of family joy! God bless you all!

  2. Source, help me set aside everything I think I know about you, every thing I think I know about myself, everything I think I know about others. For a new experience with you Lord, a new experience with others, and a much needed new experience in my own recovery.
Pure love, i am frightened today, this child is hurting myself and i desire to hear your will, thy will be done. divorce me from all thoughts of self pity, dishonest and self seeking behaviours. I ask you remove them so I can help others, relax in the presence of the Holy spirit. I am a channel of your peace. my mind is going to fast, slow me down to this present moment. i surrender back to where I came from. giving my life and my will, my will being my thoughts and my life being my actions offer myself to thee, to do with and be with you. Amen

Help me walk in your righteousness to produce the fruit that will be harvested and will serve to glorify you more. Allow me to walk boldly following you as a committed servant. Humble me so that I recognize that I have no control over my life. And that my life is yours. Give me the wisdom and the discernment to recognize these things. 1. If you are feeling peace with your thoughts and actions, they are from God. Philippians 4:6-7 says " Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with Thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus."

  5. Loved that, Rebecca, "If you are feeling peace with your thoughts and actions, they are from God." Even though I got up early to spend time in God's Word, I find myself "wishing" I had more time. Some days are such whirlwinds of activity that I find myself needing more than an hour to bask in His peace and love. To breathe and get calm before the storm of the day starts again. I can take this Peace with me and I will. Let that be my Witness today, Father...in my job, for my family and as a way to measure my continual growth in Your Word. Don't let me REACT to people who don't know you or get sucked into trying to change their minds. Let me ACT on your Word. Let me rid myself of the "foolish games" that Bob commented on yesterday. (Lisa's comments from a year ago helped me so much!). Love to this community of believers, to the Peytons for starting it years ago and YOU, Father, for continuing your good work in each of us through your Son, Christ Jesus, who lives in each of us and is our example of how to live in this world. I ask for prayers for my husband today as he takes his sister to the Oncologist. Rough waters. Breathing in His peace ("the Lord is my Shepherd"), exhaling anxiety ("I shall not want."). I'm equipped for all this day brings.

  6. Your writing on, Francis de Sales (mid 1500s), was so interesting to me, Bob. There truly is "nothing new under the sun." We are all going through 'stuff' but as MadFox said, "We can figuratively be in the boat with Jesus and the fear will calm just as the wind did." Listening to the song you shared a couple of days ago, ABC. BEAUTIFUL. Thank you!

  7. My favorite part of this devotion: "Pry your mind away from your problems so you can focus your attention on Me."

Sometimes it's really easy for me just to ask God to do it and then forget that I have part in it as well. My prayers might be...God save me and take me away from all of this... but then I forget that it takes two and that I do have to do something along side of my faith. He is faithful and He also asks me to act as well in order to experience that amazing grade and peace.

    1. Thank you all for these morning treasures! Rebecca, thank you for reminding me that I can’t just sit back and do nothing! Well, I COULD, because God can do all things, but there are things I need to do-lessons to be learned, opportunities to be completely dependent on Him! Oh this is where I fall down a lot! When ai walk my Spiritual Journey backwards from this present place I see how in those times of doubt and fear and shame He worked all these things into good. He carried me! He carried me!
God blesses this mess every single day!!!❤️❤️❤️

  10. A few more details from the practice of Francis de Sales in his daily planning for holiness. (I offer these things to you only as suggestions in which you might find your own pattern in your relationship with our Lord.) de Sales morning prayer went as follows:

    >Invocation: the world and the demons that lurk within it are greater than our strength thus begin the day by admitting as such and seeking God's help. Helpful psalms, 129 and 143
    >Foresight: what is known for the day, pray about it; what is unknown or will be a surprise, affirm God's will taking place and be done.
    >Disposition: It is not about getting things accomplished, it is about accomplishing things with love. Set your disposition so whatever happens, you stay in love mode.
    >Resolution: Commit yourself to obedience which is to love, an act of worship. Psalm 62 and 99 may be helpful
    >Recommendation: Maintain the spirit of "thy will be done...' trusting that there is a loving control force over all things so when your path takes a turn from what you thought was a better direction, this is God at work on your behalf and unto His glory.

Again, just suggestions from a person who dearly loved our Lord. God be with you.

  12. Alive and well in Your Presence this day, I just want to say Thank You Father.
For this is the day You have made, I will rejoice and be glad in it. Thank You for the Spirit of love, peace and a sound mind today.

When I am weak, I am not alone. As I put my faith in God He turns my weakness into strength.
God is our strength in times of difficulty. This doesn't mean we will have an easy life. In fact, we are likely to face all kinds of opposition. Look at the story of David and King Saul. Saul has sent men to watch David's house in order to kill him, here David finds himself surrounded by enemies, but He knew he could not win this battle on his own. He needed the Lord's help and thereby cried out to the Lord in Psalm 59:1-9. David prays and has total confidence that the Lord can and will deliver him. He knew that God was his strength.
Whatever level the opposition appears, we must cry out to the Lord for His deliverance, help and intervention.

I know at times my faith has felt weak as I've wrestle with the Lord through my fears, confusion and weariness over life's issues. I despise being weak, but I know in the Spirit, I have found strength that has been sufficient and deeply satisfying.

If you are dealing with a sense of weakness of any kind, be encouraged and come to Christ honestly with all your fears and trust you are accepted and loved, receive His strength and bring glory to Him as you find joy in His strength.

Our Shepherd, thank You for all the possibilities we can find in our physical, emotional and spiritual weaknesses and thank You for doing immeasurable more than all we ask or imagine. Thank You for all You've already done, what You are doing and what You will do for us,to bring glory to Your Holy name.

Blessings, love and God's peace are yours this day!

  13. God Bless you all on this sunny but cold OH morning! Yesterday's devotion prepared me for the day, though I didn't get to post until bedtime. Don't let me get hung up in the process, Father. Lead me to be hard working, patient and give it all to you.
Prayers that the dust doesn't mess with my husband's lungs or mine or any of us working. Praying for sustained energy, strong bodies and renewed minds.
Praying for each and every person on this site - their cares, concerns, victories, needs. How fun that we can work and pray at the same time.

  23. Thank you Sassy Mom, GTT and Mindy!! Tomorrow is the big day, but we are also expecting a ton of snow. Hubby is about to call the Onc and see if he'll do a virtual appointment. Otherwise, we'll have to reschedule. Yesterday, after fellowship and before Coach's funeral, I ran to the store and loaded up. We'll have a party right here!
ALSO, yesterday, the ATM ate my bank card! It wouldn't register that I had put it in (kept saying, "Enter your card or scan the code). I called to report it lost or stolen and the call center was closed. Thankfully, I had another bank card (from a different bank) and I have been praying since that it is safe (checked my account - all still there). It must have been the cold. And, I have to say, the thought (Yes - God), said, "Is this really necessary? It's very cold and may mess the machine up." Listening better today!
I still got goose bumps when I read your post about the roses your son in law sent, Sassy Mom! "The bottom line is, I'm taking care of you..." Yes, Father, you are. And I'm confident you will keep my card safe too, in spite of me turning a deaf ear to your inspiration.

He is so faithful. He just fixed my Mom’s two stove burners. I cleaned her stove and the two right burners wouldn’t light. I tried 10 times and then I said out loud. I’m giving these to You Lord. Then I tried one, It lit. Then I tried the other, It lit. Thank You Jesus!!!!

  36. Happy and blessed Tuesday to all of you here in this wonderful JC blog. I have not posted in some time, but please know that my prayers for all of you continued daily. It's so good to read all of your posts from past and present. I have much to catch up on, but grateful for all of you and your beautiful words.

My youngest, Avery, is back home and taking a much-needed break from his studies to focus on his mental health. I'm so proud that he's making himself a priority and seeking help. Thanking God for His guidance in finding a good therapist. Now, we are trusting Him to guide us to a good doctor who can accurately diagnose his condition. Thank You, Jesus, for the blessings You continually rain down on me and my family, and I'm praying for those suffering through anxiety and depression. Help is only a prayer away.

My husband, Paul, and middle son, Mark have fully recovered from Covid. Thank You, Lord. Continued prayers for those who are ill or suffering through the effects of Covid whether it be physically, emotionally or financially. God is with you.

May you all feel His immeasurable love and peace today knowing that He has a plan in place and has already worked out every detail for our good and His glory. Amen!

I am grateful for medicine that has my ear wound infection in check, for the details surrounding BIL Paul's passing coming together, for the renewed connections hubby is experiencing with folks that loved his bro. And oh, for the Rams super bowl win that brought us some joy and release from the weeks of heaviness over our lives.

  39. Lord, I am trying to abide by your word and trust in you. I’m scared. I have a breast biopsy next week. As I read all of the February entries prior to my second mammogram, I felt like you were preparing me. I’ve failed miserably at being a good witness for you. Please help me know and believe and act like I know you are in control and can do anything. The logical side of me knows you are in control. The emotional side of me doesn’t act like it. Please let me represent you well during this time.

    4. SC Anon., Fear is understandable with a cancer diagnosis pending, you are entering a period of a lot of uncertainty. But He says, "Fear not, for I am with you always."

It can be at times a rough path emotionally and physically. It doesn't need to be spiritually. We KNOW eternity is eventually the dsstination. No doubt, you will pray and be prayed over during this time of ongoing treatments.

I've also gained strength in the following approach:
      1. Keep relying on your faith. He is holding your hand and listen for His voice.
      2. Trust your medical team and the advances in treatments and tech. But as Reagan said, "trust but verify." Nurses are your angels on earth. The docs and team essential but RNs will be your friends who help you through.
      3. Stay positive. It is a fact that positive patients have a significantly better response to treatment. Be the light in the room. Not always possible, so when you can't be, start over at step 1.

Godspeed, I and JC warriors are praying for spiritual and physical healing. In Him, Amen.

  42. So happy and thankful to be among the beloved flock of our Good Shepherd. So many people need prayers right now and God knows the trials they're facing. He is the God that sees and hears us. We can put our needs, wants, hopes, and dreams in His Hands. Nothing is too trivial or too big for Him to handle. He wants it all. Today is my good husband Rick's Birthday. Hope he enjoys every moment of his special day. I can make some special meals for him, or take him out for a bite to eat. God will guide me to make him smile. I found 2 nice photos of us from years ago and I printed them and put them in frames. I got him some chocolate and a shirt and sweater. He's a simple man and doesn't want gifts or a lot of attention on his Birthday. He knows we love him. May God heal his back and his hammer toes. I'm so glad his heart is in rhythm. More than anything, may God strengthen His faith and bless Him. Thank You Jesus!
I sure did love today's devotion and it spoke right to my heart. Wonderful verses too! I love Psalm 23 so much and I recite it often. And Luke 1:37 is another great one. Amen, Nothing is impossible with God. But Ephesians 3:20-21 is such a favorite of mine:
Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
    Good food indeed.
God can do even more than we ask and think because He knows us even better than we know ourselves. He hears our prayers and answers them according to His will, now ours. This we must accept because His Way is the right way. I'm continuing to rest in His loving care. All is well because He is right there beside me.
If anyone is worried about test results, or a difficult situation they face, put it all in the Hands of the Lord. Rest in Him. Believe Him when He says Be Not Afraid. His promises are reliable and His Words are truth, light and life that never ends. He equips us with all we need for those things that He puts before us. And when we are just too weak to accomplish what we need to, just call out to Him! Jesus, I need You.
He is our ever present strength and peace, and He is mighty to save and strong to carry us through any storm or situation. Nothing is impossible for Him. We are more than conquerors in Christ Jesus.
    Isaiah 26:3
You will keep him in perfect peace,
Whose mind is stayed on You,
    Because he trusts in You.
    Isaiah 41:10
    Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
    I will strengthen you,
    Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

  43. But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, with men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible. (Matthew 19:26). Jesus said unto him, if thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. (Mark 9:23). Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh; is there anything too hard for Me? (Jeremiah 32:27). I know that thou canst do everything, and that no thought can be withholden from Thee. (Job 42:2). Amen! " the safest place to be is in My will."
Lord God, plant me, keep me fully in Your will. I surrender to You all the circumstances of my life.

  50. I was reading all the beautiful Happy Birthday messages from last year for my good husband Rick. Thanks again! He turns 70 today and we are both grateful he is alive and his heart is in perfect rhythm and he’s in pretty good shape. Praying he will surrender his life to Jesus but since he goes to Church I know he is seeking Him. We must trust God to make all things right. We are enjoying our time together despite the cloudy skies and cool temperatures. God has been so good to us. Praying for so many people and God already knows who needs his healing and help. So we continue to trust in Him and wait on Him. Thank You Jesus.
As today’s devotion says: “Rest in the comfort of My Presence, remembering that nothing is impossible with Me”. Eli and his family really need our prayers. I know you’re praying for them. Thanks.
Enjoy your new day, dear ones. Know God is with you. He is our very present Help and the answer to our prayers and the solution to our problems. He can help us in all things if it is His Will.

    Psalm 27:14
    Wait on the Lord;
    Be of good courage,
    And He shall strengthen your heart;
Wait, I say, on the Lord!

    Matthew 19:26
But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

    Psalm 27:14
