Jesus Calling: August 21

Wait with Me for a while. I have much to tell you. You are walking along the path I have chosen for you. It is both a privileged and a perilous way: experiencing My glorious Presence and heralding that reality to others. Sometimes you feel presumptuous to be carrying out such an assignment.
     Do not worry about what other people think of you. The work I am doing in you is hidden at first. But eventually blossoms will burst forth, and abundant fruit will be borne. Stay on the path of Life with Me. Trust Me wholeheartedly, letting My Spirit fill you with Joy and Peace.

I Kings 8:23
English Standard Version

And said, “O Lord, God of Israel, there is no God like you, in heaven above or on earth beneath, keeping covenant and showing steadfast love to your servants who walk before you with all their heart;

Galatians 5:22-23

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

  1. Today’s thought brings to mind that Jesus is the Chief Shepherd and we are the sheep of His pasture. He looks out for our well being, He leads us in a direction that is perfect, and He is motivated by unconditional love for us. To follow without veering off the path will bring peace, joy and all the fruit of the Spirit. The slightest deviation jeopardizes everything. All that we truly desire is found in staying behind Jesus and following His lead. May my heart be consumed with desire to follow.

    3. Amen Bob! Thank you for your encouragement and instruction.
      Dear Lord, Help me to stay close to you today and follow hard after righteousness and the Spirit. Let my eyes and feet remain focused on you and the path you are leading me on. Your will be done, not mine. Amen.

    4. Rereading this two years later with your replies, ‘the path I have chosen’ caught my attention. If He has chosen it, what does it matter how easy or difficult it is? He has chosen it and He will be glorified to the degree I am willing to accept it. No other path will be good for me. If I should find His path difficult, any other path will create far more difficulty in my life. Thank you, Lord, for the path you have chosen for me. On it, I am truly blessed and fulfilled.

So, I am asking for prayer for us and especially my husband and kids. Thank you! And ladyly, my 24 year old has a drug addition and I know that the Lord can do all things and with you all praying!

      I was not going toutility that my son is addicredited to drugs butility it is the truth and he needs prayer and I trust you not to judge. Thank you and bless you all

    7. Amen, Bob. Thanking the Lord for the path He has chosen just for me. It can't be anyone else's journey because He custom made it for me. Where He leads, I will follow. How blessed are we? God be with you.

      You have a room full of Prayer Warriors praying for you and yours in a judgement free zone. Prayer and encouragement to draw near to God, rather that drift away from God is what we do; since none of us are qualified to judge, we steer clear of that lane.

    9. Amen Bob and Brie! Our Father has chosen paths for us and He never promised our paths would be easy. We’ve all had obstacles in our way and dark storms threatening our peace and health. My friend Carmel just had her leg amputated because of a circulation problem. I was talking to her the other day. I said we can never go back but we can go forward holding His Hand. He will make a way for her and be her strength. Another good phrase I remember is: Bloom where you’re planted, and I’ll add: in His presence. But if anyone is in a bad place of abuse or sin, remember this: God does not want you to be hurt or abused or driven off the path of righteousness. He only wants you to be blessed and prosper: Nothing has to be if it can be changed, with His Help.
      Dear Fay, I would never judge you about your son. My 2 cousins were drug addicts and one died from it and one died from cancer when he was clean and he had found Jesus. Praying now for you and your husband in all things and that he will draw closer to Jesus and to you. It must be hard for him to see you suffering but he is also seeing your faith is your foundation. Your son also has his reasons to escape and sadly is hurting himself in the process. I pray someone he trusts can guide him to the help he needs even if he may be in denial. May God make all things right in your life and give you and your family peace and renewal at this hard time dear Sister. Much love

    12. What an awesome devotional today. It was right on time for me in the season I'm in. Then Bob's remarks confirmed it even more. Fay don't know if you'll ever see this but know that I pray for your son to find turn his life over to Jesus bc speaking from experience,it's the only way to get clean and live a joy and peace filled life. I got clean and now work at a men's Christian rehab where I teach and counsel other men struggling with addiction. If man is willing,God is able.

    1. How is it going with 'thanking God each day for things' like life, breath, etc. Even if those thank you prayers are a little manufactured and stiff at times, it is still good practice. Romans 5:1 is also a great verse you can use in that prayer. It says, "Therefore, since we have been made right in God's sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us." So, it sounds like peace on earth with the earth's problems and the challenges that come because of sin are bringing you down. But, from an eternal perspective God has give you peace. I just want to make sure, has there been a time in your life when you put your complete trust in Jesus and what he did for you on the cross at Calvary? Romans 10:9-10 says, "If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved." God saves us not on anything that we have done but through the shed blood of Jesus. Salvation comes as a gift through faith, by believing. A simple prayer could be offered - "Lord Jesus, I believe you are the Son of God. Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. Please forgive my sins and give me the gift of eternal life. I ask you in to my life and heart to be my Lord and Savior. I want to serve you always." Check out other resources at Godlife.com.

  4. Unknown - Sadly, there is no promise of peace on this earth but small gifts filter down to us every day and it is hard to see them sometimes. Your words “help me God” can and should be used often as you face what feels like endless problems. Others are praying for you, Unknown.

  12. This morning, I am thankful to You oh Lord, for so many things, like waking me up this morning in my right mind, for Your traveling grace and mercy bestowed upon me and my mom as we traveled, for a great time spent, but most importantly, for Your Love, new mercy and grave that I dont deserve. Thank You Father!

    My JC family, I missed a few days of connecting with you via this blog, but I was in prayers for you and trusting God for ALL your requests and concerns.I am going back to read all the postings I missed and again, lift them up to our Heavenly Father. Today, I pray this prayer over all of you in Jesus name:
    May Heaven pay attention to you, God will establish the covenant of life with you and your family, You will not die, but live to testify and declare the works of God, You will not sorrow over your children, grandchildren, parents, relatives et al., no matter how long you live, God will give you the grace to live and eat the fruit of your labour in sound health. God will avert whatever you will do that could cost you your life, in Jesus mighty name. David faced Goliath with five ordinary stones, but with God, the ordinary becomes extraordinary. Victory isn’t about what you have, it’s about God’s anointing on what you have. With God, all things are possible, just put your trust in Him and He will never leave nor forsake you. Amen.
    As we wait on the Lord and walk with Him, His light will shine upon us and take away the darkness and dark periods of our lives. Worry, fear and what the world thinks of us have NO power over us! We are in CHRIST JESUS, the Hope of Glory!
    Love and great blessings to all this day and always.

  16. Good morning Lord. Good morning JC family. Welcome back Maplewood NJ, my mom left us 9/11/16; I miss her so much and it gives me such joy the way you do for your mom. Zfuntastic isn't it amazing how you can love and care for so many JC warriors. We haven't seen each other and we are all scattered out but so together and so close in spirit and that is the same with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He is with us; he knows our struggles; he knows our pain. Remember always that you are His and He is yours. We love you and are praying without ceasing for you. Things are so much brighter for us in Texas; so very tired and exhausted Dad, mom, and granny but only by the grace of God we will find the energy needed. As for our little warrior he is alive and doing what babies do..praise Jesus Almighty. Thank you all for your prayers.

  19. Good early morning or late night (12:12 am), to each of you, my praying partners. Today, was one of the best days of my life. We were part of a very loving, caring, giving service for our Dear Aunt Mary Anna, and while not all of our fam was available to attend, those who were there were a God-Send.
    Before I go to bed, I ask myself why this day was so blessed. We know in truth, in part, it was my dear Aunt Mary Anna's life, whom we were celebrating. The 'rest of the story,' involves 3 of our 5 off spring. It started (after the service), with our dear Joni buying all of us dinner. Our budget has been tight of late, b/c we are still working on our house, so this was a welcome reprieve.
    It ended with our 2nd son hooking up music to his gifted blue tooth speaker. We laughed, talked, ate, sang and thanked God for our dear Aunt's lifetime of giving, sharing, dancing (she was a Square Dancer), welcoming people in, for a sip of hot coffee, a kind word, she was SO simplistic (a Quaker), yet was SO rich and generous in her love for life.
    Lord, let me remember this day and the blessings it contained. In spite of the pain saying, "Goodbye," we know it is just for a season. We'll see her again and, Oh, what a day of rejoicing THAT will be!
    Thank you for your prayers, dear JC Family.Can't tell you enough how thankful I am!

      These words are from a song I wrote called Everything to me.

      Jesus, You mean everything to me.
      Jesus, You gave your life to set us free.
      Jesus, You’re forever in my heart,
      And from Your love, I’ll never part.

      Jesus, All I really need is You.
      Jesus, I know Your precious Words are true.
      Jesus, You open up my eyes to see
      Your saving light in front of me.

      Every day is better
      With You here by my side;
      And even through the hard times,
      You strengthen me inside.
      You lift me to a higher place
      When life’s dark storms prevail.
      I stand upon the solid Rock.
      You’re strong when I am frail.

      Jesus, I give You all my thanks and praise.
      Jesus, You bless me in so many ways.
      Jesus, You are faithful and so good.
      Help me to live, the way I should.

      Jesus, You’re the greatest part of me.
      Jesus, In Your grace, I want to be.
      Jesus, You’re in my heart to understand
      My every thought, my needs, my plan.

  21. I'm 68 and been a devoted Christian for 44 years. I've always sought God but my journey has been difficult, coming from an abusive background.
    Now I feel I've let God down, although I know He's forgiven me. And He keeps reassuring me of His love, forgiveness and Presence.
    A close family member who has ill-treated me on and off for years, verbally, emotionally and when drunk Even physically, is blackening my name. I finally stood up to her but i lost it. It was like years of ill treatment flooded out and unfortunately it was over texting.
    I said things I shouldn't have said and she's now showing these texts to people who don't know me very well and don't know the full truth. Even though I've apologised numerous times. There's been no recognition of her years of abuse towards me. And though I love her, I still don't feel able to go back into that relationship.
    I feel so sad at our broken relationship and that I lost my temper at last and did wrong. And yes, other peoples bad opinion who don't know the truth.
    I do have some family support from people who do know the truth. Who have seen it for themselves over the years and who are Christians.
    I just feel I let God down and myself and gave her ammunition to malign me... And that shouldn't matter, but it does.
    Any words of advice to combat this sadness? Because.. She's my daughter and I love her and know that things could have been so different. At other times we got on well and shared interests in common and humour.
    I miss the good things. But not the abusive times.

    1. Ugh. That is tough. I am sorry you are going through all of it. Relationships challenge us and so prove our need for Jesus. I love Kmertens encouragement to stay the course.
      This is not a surprise to God. He knows the next step. He loves you without condition.
      Praying for you with hope and peace!

    2. Dear Unknown, God knows exactly how you feel. No matter what has been said between you and your daughter, and no matter what sins you both may have committed, and even what your texts have caused people to believe, God knows your heart and you have already come to Him in repentance for losing control. We always get in trouble when we follow the flesh. Human emotions of anger, revenge and pride lead to our loss of control. Sadly, you allowed the reins God was holding to fall and leaned on your own understanding. The result is never good. And we’ve all done it and regretted it. We unplugged ourselves from the Vine. But you know all that. God is still in control and knows your heart. Words can’t be taken back but words to mend the ragged edges can be spoken and the relationship can be not only be salvaged but an be refreshed and renewed and better than ever in Christ. He is the Way Maker and the Author of our futures. He can open your daughter’s heart towards you. She may even be regretting what was said and done and also her bringing you down by sharing your texts. God doesn’t want you wracked with guilt. Give Him back the reins of your life and trust Him completely. Get more sleep and rest. Read the Word especially the Psalms. He always hears our cries for help and lifts us out of the sinking sands of despair. Spend time alone with Him to sort it out. He will send an open door to you and show you a way to put it all back together in His love. Remember His past faithfulness. Forgive your daughter and also yourself. We’ve all done things we’re not proud of but our merciful God has made us blameless and clean again. Hold onto His Unchanging Hand. Praying for the future to hold much bright light for you and your daughter.

    3. Hi Unknown,
      Put God First! And Thank God we have a Forgiving God. As I have often done, I too, get it twisted about who is on first base, God the Giver/Forgiver or The Gift/Loved Ones? Putting God the Great Giver and Forgiver First, allowing His Sovereignty to Reign Supreme over Your Life, spending energy on What He Thinks, rather than wasting it on what others think, helped me out of the twisted situations with loved ones. I prayerfully share my experience in hope that it can help you, especially since I paid a high price for this lesson.
      Today's devotion seems to fit your situation: Do not worry about what other people think of you. The work I am doing in you is hidden at first. But eventually blossoms will burst forth, and abundant fruit will be borne. Stay on the path of Life with Me. Trust Me wholeheartedly, letting My Holy Spirit fill you with Love, Joy and Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness,Faithfulness, Gentleness, Self-Control! Your dear one cannot fill this order. Only God's Holy Spirit can. Be blessed and Comforted. Love You

    5. He is the Way Maker, Unknown. He can build a road where there is only bramble. Trust Him to light your wilderness. His Words are not just ink on paper and He is a very present help in times of trouble. Closer to you than your breath or your heartbeat. Believe His promises and our words of encouragement. 25. Dear Loving Father, Thank You for causing me to hear Your loving kindness this morning. For in You I trust. Forgive me for those times that I took my eyes off of You and allowed worry to sneak in. When the attack comes again, help me to refocus and draw into Your loving embrace. Thank You for the strength to wait for Your promises. You are gracious to me, You exalt Yourself to show me mercy. For You are a God of justice. I am blessed when I wait on You (Isaiah 30:18). Your grace is sufficient for me. In Jesus’ name I pray.

    “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; those who wait for the Lord shall inherit the land; But for you, O Lord, do I wait; it is you, O Lord my God, who will answer.”

    When we choose to wait quietly and trustingly on the Lord, we not only honor Him, but encourage others to put their trust in Him as well. We should believe that the God who saved us hears our cries (Micah 7:7) and as we wait and watch with expectancy, we should be prepared for unexpected answers as well (Psalm 5:3). When we also lay our requests before him, it is by faith that we wait in anticipation of His good work in us. Our waiting means we put our hope in His Word (Psalm 130:5-6), because it is only when we put our hope in Christ that we can wait with confidence and know we will not be put to shame. And as we wait for God’s promises, we should see it as an opportunity to experience His goodness (Lam. 3:25). Christ is our answer, He is our rest and the treasure we seek. Let’s wait for the Lord.

    “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” (Matt. 6:25-27).

    For us to overcome worry, we must focus on eternal matters instead of temporary ones. Focusing on eternal matters delivers us from those worries and brings God’s peace. Worrying is unproductive and will never benefit us physically, mentally, or spiritually. Proverbs 12:25 says, anxiety in the heart of a man brings depression. Jesus gives three examples of God’s providential care in order to encourage all believers to not worry but to instead trust God. He says we should look at the “birds in the sky,” how God feeds them (v. 26). Look at the “flowers of the field,” how they grow. Their clothes are better than that of Solomon (v 28-29). Though birds gather their food, God is involved in their hunt for it. He is also involved in all of the intricate processes of flowers blooming and the grass gaining its color. Absolutely nothing happens apart from God in this world. It all happens because, “God did it” (Amos 3:6, Isaiah 45:6). When we recognize our great value to the Lord, we will cease from worrying. He is our Jehovah Jireh!

    Dear Father, Grant us a great amount of strength, faith and courage to fight off the doubt and fear within our minds.. Help us to remember that worry gets us nowhere, that you are in control and only you alone know what the future holds. May we just be still and remember that You are God. Thank You for providing our needs. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

    Blessings and Peace.

    1. Maplewood, your words are always so comforting to me. While trusting God versus worry always makes me feel better, I come from a family of worriers with my mom (87) being the queen of, lol. While she and my siblings are quite connected to their churches and faith, it seems the worrying continues. I think they think of me like "a flower child-hippie" kind of thing, with little to no worry, throwing caution to the wind because I try to always give it to God knowing He's in control of EVERYTHING. Am I always successful with every worry, of course not but I sure do try and try to avoid worriers like my family reminding them to "cast your/their cares on Him because He cares for you". Thank you for your words today, Maplewood, as they reinforce what I believe to be true. I pray that my mom, a huge and life-long believer, will, at 87, let more daily worries go to God versus her lamenting and wringing her hands with worry over this situation and that. It is SO freeing when we give it to God. For me, I feel like a young child asking for help from my heavenly Father to take the worry or concern for me.
      Happy Friday, JC Warriors! May you all feel God's presence throughout your day!

Now the door knob just keeps turning and not even affecting the mechanism that opens the door. It can only be opened with a key from the outside. We are locked in our apartment now. Our son is away until late tomorrow and the Super doesn't usually come on Sundays. I'm supposed to sing the 9:30 Mass with the Choir and my husband goes to an earlier Mass. I told him not to worry. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel's will save it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels." You have asked Your children to wait on You because when we do: We discover Your Will and purpose in things that most concerns us, waiting on You causes us to receive supernatural physical energy and strength, waiting on You causes us to win our battles, waiting on You causes us to see the fulfillment of our faith in You and waiting on You causes us to see You work on our behalf in every area of our lives. He will not grow tired or weary,
    and his understanding no one can fathom.
    He gives strength to the weary
    and increases the power of the weak.
    Even youths grow tired and weary,
    and young men stumble and fall;
    but those who hope in the Lord
    will renew their strength.
    They will soar on wings like eagles;
    they will run and not grow weary,
    they will walk and not be faint” (Isaiah 40:28-31).

  41. Great devotion today! The work I am doing in you is hidden at first. But eventually blossoms will burst forth, and abundant fruit will be borne. Stay on the path of Life with Me. Trust Me wholeheartedly, letting My Spirit fill you with Joy and Peace.
    Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
    What a great God to give us these gifts of the Spirit to guard us from commiting sins of the flesh. Love is the first and most important one because it covers a multitude of sins and all the following gifts are contained in it. The joy of the Spirit is different from the joy we get when everything goes right, or when we find the perfect dress, or when we're having a whole lotta fun. It is a true joy that remains even when everything around us is in turmoil. It comes from knowing that God is with us through every storm or valley time. He lights even the darkest wilderness. So our joy is not dependant on circumstances but on Who we belong to. The peace of the Spirit is a constant sweet peace that fills us even when trials are at our doorstep. We must guard against letting go of it, or permitting someone or some situation to rob us of it. It is the peace that transcends all human understanding. We are surrounded by it but we must be aware of it. The patience of the Spirit or longsuffering is a much needed gift because through it, we have the ability to bear all things, pain, suffering and bad situations, because God gives us this spiritual “patience” to wait in peace until things get better. Spiritual gifts of kindness and goodness seem to be intertwined. If you're showing kindness to others, then you are being good and pleasing God. And if you are a good person, you are surely kind and generous to your neighbor or friend or family member. God is so good and His loving kindness is such a blessing. What an example we have to follow. When I think of faithfulness, it is almost always about His faithfulness. I have seen it so many times in my life and in the lives of so many people. We've all seen it in our dear JC Family. But we are called to be faithful to God and to others, just as He has been faithful to us. This often means putting someone elses needs ahead of ours. Gentleness is a wonderful gift. I believe humility and meekness are part of this. We must never become pumped up or haughty. Any good works we do or light we shine should be for God's glory and not ours. May His Spirit hold our tongues when we should be listening. That's one I pray about. It's not about me, but Him. Now the last one, self control, is a gift we all need because we are human and often allow our emotions to lead us. That is the flesh. The Spirit should guide our words, thoughts and deeds because God is calling us to allow His Spirit to lead us in every situation. Jesus has freed us from the bondage of sin and man's laws. We should never use our free will to sin but to do God's will. If we are led by the Spirit we must walk in the Spirit and live our lives in ways that reflect these gifts. We must live to glorify God and not ourselves. We must serve others with selfless love, and forgive those who have done us wrong. We're all sinners and in need of forgiveness so we should forgive even our enemies. We must be humble and let God's light shine through our brokenness. We must do our best to remain in God's grace and favor, and lean not unto our human emotions but follow His indwelling Spirit that calls us to follow after righteousness. This is a daily challenge and certainly not an easy one. But staying in God's presence and peace, and being sensitive to His Spirit helps us to resist temptations to sin, and helps us to be obedient to His call. It's a battle but, we are not alone to fight our battles. He is so much greater than he that is in this world.
    Well, I gotta get some rest now. God bless you, my dear brothers and sisters. Enjoy your day and look for every spot of His bright light on your path with gratitude. Much love!

  47. Lord we are in various seasons of our lives. Thank you for walking with us. I ask you to walk closely with my brother and his wife as they head down an unexpected path this week. I thank you for her recovery from cancer last Fall and humbly ask for healing of what was found last week. As she has more tests this week to find out more, please give them strength and faith.

    2. Joining prayers for your brother’s dear wife that her test results will be good. Adding them both to my prayers. Praying God is already healing every weakness in her body and granting her and your brother strength of body, mind and spirit. Thank You Jesus.

    Psalm 92:14-15
    They still bear fruit in old age;
    they are ever full of sap and green,
    15 to declare that the Lord is upright;
    he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.

  50. Joining in good Monday morning prayers with all who shared above and for those praying with us from your hearts. We know you're there.

    Thank you for your continuous prayers for my family. Westin has improved dramatically over the weekend and Makenna and Austin were able to hold him on Saturday for the first time since he was born ...10 days after his birth. Praise God! AND Makenna gave him a bottle of breast milk too. This is huge! Up until Saturday he had only had saline pumped directly into his stomach. No food.

    This week they are going to focus on increasing his milk intake and getting him and Makenna acquainted so she can breast feed him. Baby steps. God is so good!
