Jesus Calling: August 30

There is no place so desolate that you cannot find Me there. When Hagar fled from her mistress, Sarah, into the wilderness, she thought she was utterly alone and forsaken. But Hagar encountered Me in that desolate place. There she addressed Me as the Living One who sees me. Through that encounter with My Presence, she gained courage to return to her mistress.
No act of circumstances could ever isolate you from My loving Presence. Not only do I see you always; I see you as a redeemed saint, gloriously radiant in My righteousness. That is why I take great delight in you and rejoice over you with singing!

Genesis 16:7-14
Amplified

But the Angel of the Lord found her by a spring of water in the wilderness on the road to Shur. And He said, Hagar, Sarai’s maid, where did you come from, and where are you intending to go? And she said, I am running away from my mistress Sarai. The Angel of the Lord said to her, Go back to your mistress and [humbly] submit to her control. Also the Angel of the Lord said to her, I will multiply your descendants exceedingly, so that they shall not be numbered for multitude. And the Angel of the Lord continued, See now, you are with child and shall bear a son, and shall call his name Ishmael [God hears], because the Lord has heard and paid attention to your affliction. And he [Ishmael] will be as a wild ass among men; his hand will be against every man and every man’s hand against him, and he will live to the east and on the borders of all his kinsmen. So she called the name of the Lord Who spoke to her, You are a God of seeing, for she said, Have I [not] even here [in the wilderness] looked upon Him Who sees me [and lived]? Or have I here also seen [the future purposes or designs of] Him Who sees me? Therefore the well was called Beer-lahai-roi [A well to the Living One Who sees me]; it is between Kadesh and Bered.

Psalm 139:7-10
English Standard Version

Where shall I go from your Spirit?
Or where shall I flee from your presence?
If I ascend to heaven, you are there!
If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!
If I take the wings of the morning
and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
10 even there your hand shall lead me,
and your right hand shall hold me.

Zephaniah 3:17
English Standard Version

The Lord your God is in your midst,
    a mighty one who will save;
he will rejoice over you with gladness;
    he will quiet you by his love;
he will exult over you with loud singing.

  1. Heavenly Father, We love and praise you and thank you for all that you do for us and all the gifts that you give us. Lord, have us know that You are always in our hearts and are continuously there for us. It is in our darkest moments when we feel so alone and abandoned. Lord, give us the faith during these times to remember to seek your presence and guidance out of the darkness for it is these times when we need You, our true father.

  5. What a blessing to read of all of the victories taking place; all of the hearts turning to God, asking forgiveness, claiming release from worry, doubt, fear, addiction! As Suzanne said, "we all make mistakes on a daily basis..." Our prayer, every morning, every day is to be our best for God and to seek His Word and claim our Lord and Saviors victory as ours.
I lift this day to You, Father and thank you in the name of Jesus Christ for victory in all that we do. Be with me in my casework - the unknown territory that I will encounter today. Let me put myself in their shoes and fight for the RIGHT answers as if I were seeking it for myself. You know the needs and wants of Your people and you have given us the power to claim the desired results. The Mystery was revealed that it is God in Christ in us, the Hope of Glory. Had the adversary known, our Savior never would have been crucified. Now, it's not just one man called by God but millions! Let us all realize the power we have, granted by God, and step out on that matchless Word KNOWING that what He promises, He delivers.
Praying for each of you and all of my loved ones as they travel, celebrate anniversaries and birthdays and this long, lovely weekend. I'm so very thankful for each of you and this lovely site that brought us all together. TGIF - who taught us to realize, Thank God I'm Forgiven?! Can't remember, but I think of it often. God Bless JC Family - mighty Prayer Warriors.

And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, The power, and the glory, For ever and ever. Amen.

  12. Thank you again, JC Family, for your posts! I'm inspired and uplifted each day as I read the devotion, bible passages and your posts. I am continually reminded I am not alone, which is a wonderful feeling. My life struggles are still in full swing, but I feel so much hope here. I have gotten very low, but absolutely know God sees me where I am, no matter the circumstance. He is working in and around me even when I don't realize it in that moment. A friend gave me the JC book a few years ago because it was apparent I was hurting. I found this site for much the same reason. I realize now both were blessings and answers to prayers. Thank you Jesus for always being there!

I tend to withdraw and isolate myself when I am overwhelmed, but I am realizing now God still sees me and sees me in a state I can't even image..."a redeemed saint, gloriously radiant in My righteousness." Amen. All glory and thanks be to You, my God!

I'm uplifting all on here in Prayer today! Some special prayers for your safety in Florida. Praying for your difficult job to go as it should. Prayers for anyone traveling during the long weekend. Prayers of thanksgiving for little Jairo being released to come home! Praying for those in the midst of struggles of addiction. Praying for those on this site who bring me peace, joy and hope each day! And praying for those who read the posts each day and don't post anything, but walk away with hope and prayers in their hearts. I like seeing a new meaning for TGIF; a great reminder.

    3. I’ll offer some thoughts, Brie, and try to keep it short. The prevailing thought of that time is that a man’s heritage must be perpetuated. Therefore if a couple had no children (it was believed a problem with the woman), the wife would offer a maid servant to her husband through whom he could father a child. Times have changed but human emotions have always been the same. Jealousy easily entered in and thus the reaction of Sarai causing Hagar to flee for her safety. God was with Hagar and because she was carrying Abram’s seed, God’s chosen one, to whom God made a promise of a great nation, God required Hagar to return to an unsafe & uncomfortable situation. Even though the child Hagar bore to Abram & Sarai was not the one through whom God intended to fulfill His promise, God would respect Abram’s seed. (It is believed Hagar’s child, Ishmael, was the line from which the Islam faith developed.) The failure of Abram & Sarai was that they did not wait on the Lord to fulfill His promise. Instead they took their own initiative to bring about what God had promised, something that can easily still happen today. This may not be a perfect answer but it is an attempt to answer some questions that are indeed complicated. I hope it helps. God be with you.

    4. Thanks Bob. I'll contemplate on this.

    5. By God, I think she finally got it! Dear Heavenly Father God, would You hide my life in Yours and carry me along in patience, trust and steady growth, before my ego attempts to hurry and do works on its own, and in that respect, be much like Abram and Sarai? Instead of beating Hagar, I often beat my own head against the goad. Lord forgive us all. Thanks for You patience with the slow learners. Amen.

    8. Amen Bob, That story about is about waiting for God to bring about the desires of our heart instead of trying to solve problems ourselves. We must remember He knows the future and what is best for us. I always relate to when Hagar was in the wilderness and God was so kind and loving to call her back and to comfort her heart. He does the same for us when we lose our way. We just have to wait on Him and His plan will be revealed. Good for this uncertain time!

  21. Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for this last day of the month and for all the Victories and tests you set before me. I stand in awe of Your goodness, mercy and grace. Thank You! I pray over any circumstances I may face now or tomorrow. I pray You will give me peace about what I can’t change and the wisdom to change the things I can. I’m asking You to reach into my life and do Your will. Your grace is sufficient me. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Just like Hager, many of us have been faced with different situations out of our control, that leave us in a state of paralysis. When you know that God knows and see what you are going through, but you still want to pray but can’t find the words to say, this is where H.E.L.P from the scripture in Psalms comes in handy, as in Praying the Psalms for God's HELP:

H - "Hear me Lord and answer me for I am poor and needy." Psalm 86:1
When you take the first step to let God know that you need Him and absolutely want His help.

E - "Establish my steps in your word." Psalm 119:133
When you know you can’t do it on your own, you turn to God for His direction and for strength to stand firm in His promises.

L - "Let your compassion quickly meet our needs because we are on the brink of despair." Psalm 79:8
When you are drowning in your circumstance, you reach out and ask God to help you focus on His compassion and grace to lift you out of your despair and pain.

P - "Protect me God because I take refuge in You. I say to the Lord, You are my Lord, apart from You I have nothing good." Psalm 16:1

When you know He’s your only covering, run to your Jehovah Jireh/Jehovah Raah (Protector and Provider). Seek refuge and lean on God, not your own strength or abilities. He promises to be your refuge if you will let Him!

Dear Father, You say that we do not need to be afraid or dismayed because you are our God and You are with us. Help us to know Your presence in the midst of our circumstances and draw strength from You. We submit our prayer in the name of Jesus. Amen.

    Blessings and Peace.

I am finally posting today as I have an office mate and fellow believer, Mark, who is scheduled to have open heart surgery Monday noon. I know Jesus will be with him and the medical staff as he undergoes what will be a very lengthy procedure. I told him that I would be praying for him but ask if you all could lift up Mark for this upcoming procedure as well. This is not very eloquent but I suspect Jesus already knew that. Thank you all... 1. Dear Anonymous Houston Aggie, Prayers are now being said for Mark and his entire Medical Team, and will continue until we get his Victory and Praise Report.
PS. "Eloquent" is not required here! Prayer Requests and Praise Reports are! Thanks for posting. We love to pray and then watch our God work it out! He is truly our One and Only Waymaker, Miracle Worker, Promise Keeper, Light In The Darkness Who is always working. Whether or not we see, hear, or feel Him, He's still working, because He always is.

  25. Good morning, Jesus and JC Family! Happy Day of Worship to all of you here. Thank you, Bob, Ellen and Janet for your prayers for today- mine will be spent attending mass online, my husband and I will be having lunch with our middle son, Mark, at his home and fixing a few things there that need repair. Thank you, Jesus, for watching over my children- Mark, Jay, Julie and Arabella here in California, and Justin in Oregon. I pray hedge of protection over them, my extended family, friends, and my JC Family. Praying for all the lost souls especially those that need you most, Father God, and are struggling with fear, anxiety, worry, doubt, addiction, financial problems, family strife, mental disorders, etc. Breathe Your Holy Spirit into them that they may know that You are God, the Great I Am! Thank you, Father, for Your faithfulness! I come before You humbled, thankful, and grateful for Your Mercy, Grace, and Peace that You, in Your infinite Wisdom, have found me worthy to receive. And I receive it gladly, with my whole heart. You are the Alpha and Omega, the one true God. All Glory, Honor and Praise are Yours, Lord! Thank you, Jesus! Praying, also, for those in the path of the hurricanes, the lives lost, and the families left behind to pick up the pieces. Comfort them, Father God, with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Praying for all prayer requests and petitions here in our JC Family. Looking forward to your Praise Reports! Remember, Victory is already ours in being with the Father. Wishing you all a beautiful Sunday.

  26. JUMPING WAVES WITH OUR JC FAMILY
Psalm 139: If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, with all its waves, 10 even there Your Hand shall lead me, and Your Right Hand shall hold me.
    ECCLESIASTES 4: 12
9 Two can accomplish more than twice as much as one, for the results can be much better. 10 If one falls, the other pulls him up; but if a man falls when he is alone, he’s in trouble. 11 Also, on a cold night, two under the same blanket gain warmth from each other, but how can one be warm alone?  12 And one standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer; three is even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.
    My Prayer
    Dear God our Heavenly Father,
As You know, sometimes our JC Family Members encounter waves that are too strong for one person. The wave cuts us short and knocks us over. When that happens, we join hands with You and all our JC Prayer Warrior Family Members, forming an unbroken line. When the stronger waves come, we jump together; The combined force and strength of our Prayer line withstands much stronger waves!  Grabbing hands and forming a line with You and our JC Family Members allows us all to jump over even bigger waves and get through to the other side of triumphant, supporting each other both in the ocean and out.
Would you remind me that You are near and that helping another's boat across I find another boat reaching the shore. It's mine? And would you help me to continue joining forces with others when I encounter waves that confront me and are too great for me to jump alone?  AND would you let me encounter those whom I can support at the same time? In Jesus' name I ask, I pray and I thank. Amen.

  29. Heavenly Father, thank You for always looking after me. You are a most gracious, merciful Father. You are so faithful and forgiving, amazing, and wonderful. There is no one like You. Please keep Your loving gaze upon all Your children and lead us along our paths, according to Your will. Help us to keep our eyes on You above all else and during all circumstances. I am still struggling with this smoking addiction and it weighs heavy on my heart. Please deliver me from this desire. I am trusting in You Lord because I believe in You and all Your promises. I praise You Lord. Thank You Jesus. In Jesus name, I pray, Amen.

Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. (James 5:16). And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it. (John 14:13-14).

    1. JANET, Your smoking is sin and your sin is against God and nobody else. You are sinning against God, let that be more than enough reason to cut it off and cut it off immediately. Do whatever it takes. Don't think that you can continue to do your thing and that God is going to just step in and deliver you from it and just take it away. That concept obviously isn't working for you and hasn't worked for you. Repenting is way more than just being sorry for what you do. I'm sure that you know all this already. But I pray that you find the strength and firm position of heart to overcome.

    2. Dear Janet, sweet sister friend in Christ Jesus. Thank you for seeking Jesus Who has removed many many addictions when He was sought, including nicotine. He can and will remove yours. After asking for His Help, He led me to a Nicotine Anonymous Meeting and the 12 step program for Nicotine Addicts. WOW! My life was forever changed for the better, the desire for Nicotine removed, and the practice of the 12 principles in all my affairs remain. Hope you give yourself the gift that keeps on giving - a 12 step program for Nicotine Addicts.
Thanks for sharing, I will be holding your hand and praying for you as we leap together over this wave. Love to you and our entire JC Family, Brie

    3. Let anyone who is without sin cast the first stone...I admire your courage and bravery, Janet, to share this struggle you have with us. Joyce Meyer tells the story of her nicotine addiction with cigarettes and how she finally beat it. When she'd smoke, she'd tell herself out loud "I hate smoking", "I can't stand the smell of smoke", etc. A week or two after she started these mantras to herself, she completely stopped smoking and to this day can't stand the smell of smoke. I will pray God gives you the strength to stop and, just like Joyce, you find you can't stand the smell either!

    4. Janet, here is some truth.

Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace. What then? Are we to sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means! Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves,c you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? ~ Romans 6:12-16

    5. Dear Sister Janet, I smoked for 8 years and when I was working in Manhattan I was smoking 1 1/2 packs a day. I was so hooked and I loved the smell of it and lit up after my meals and when I had a drink in my hand and while I was with my friends. Then I developed a cough and it was not a good thing. I started running and couldn't even run a quarter mile without coughing. It took me 3 tries to quit. Tried chewing special nicotine gum and ate more snacks. Gained a bit of weight but I finally did it with God's help. For a while I still loved the smell of someone smoking but now I hate it. My Dad died of lung cancer and my good Mom who is 93 is still smoking. I wish she would quit.
You already know we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. We are more than conquerors in Christ Jesus.
      Joining prayers for your victory.
NJS, I loved your advice about Joyce Meyer's mantras. It is a very good way to quit.
Father God, We ask you to make Janet aware of the harm she is doing to her body by smoking. Hold her hand tightly and lead her to a great and real desire to give it up. Give her inner strength to withstand the temptation to smoke. Show her that her life will be so much better without it and she will feel so much healthier as her body rids itself of the nasty toxins left by smoking. Each no day without it will bring her energy, strength, better breathing and the ability to exercise. Not to mention she will not smell like smoke anymore and she will save money. We know You can do all things. We are trusting You for this victory. Thank You in the Name of Your Son, Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

  30. “He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high” (Heb. 1:3).

Loving Father, I acknowledge by faith in Your Word that You are always closer to me than I am to myself. Thank You for being above everything, in everything, and everywhere. These are inspiring truths about Your attributes and this means I’m never alone. When I pray, my prayers have credibility, they matter because You are listening and will answer. It also tells me that You are in every situation and circumstance of my life. Thank You for being wholly present in heaven and wholly in the earth alone and wholly in heaven and earth together, You are not confined in any place, You are everywhere and present at every place. You are equally near to everyone and everything that exists, while still completely retaining Your unique personhood and individuality. Right at this moment, I say thank You for being just as present with me as You are in the farthest point in the universe from either one of us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Scripture tells us that God Himself said “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you; Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God (Is. 41:10). Of course, there are times in our life when we might be genuinely lonely and isolated from the people love or are separated from for whatever reason. During this time in particular, we should always remember that God never leaves us, He is always there. Human beings will forsake or abandon us, but God cannot and will never do so. We are never alone, so let us be encouraged that no circumstances can ever separate us from our Father’s Presence!

“He is not far from any one of us. For in him we live and move and exist.” (Acts 17:27-28).

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you” (Isaiah 43:2).

    Blessings and Peace.

  34. Just found out my oldest son Bryan, who lives in CA with his lovely wife and baby daughter, is coming home for a few days at the same time Rick and I are going to New Jersey for a 4 day vacation. But we will be with him for one or two days. He has been speaking to a real estate agent and is planning to look at some houses in our area and the neighboring areas, and he also will be interviewing for some jobs. Trusting God to guide him to the house and job he needs. He wants to move East to be with our family. But I must clean out his old room because his wife will be coming for a few days too. It's filled with toys, art supplies, books, Christmas decorations, Easter baskets, Gabriel's drawings and baby clothes. Also a lot of my music sheets and other stuff. The dowel in the closet broke and we have not gotten around to replacing it so there is nowhere to hang their clothes. I must clean the room before we go away on the 5th but I must also bake 48 cupcakes for Nathaniel's 1st Birthday party on the 4th and find some time to pack for the trip. I'm going to help decorate for the party right after Sunday Mass. God knows what I need to do and I trust He will make all things come together for good. Trusting in our faithful God.
Have a blessed day in His presence and guard your peace. It is so very precious.

I recall a time many years ago when, staring at a clock on the wall, there was an age of time between each second that ticked slowly by. An hour seemed an eternity. They were dark days indeed, but the electro-shock therapy worked, praise God.
