Jesus Calling: December 17

Come to Me with your gaping emptiness, knowing that in Me you are complete. As you rest quietly in My Presence, My Light within you grows brighter and brighter. Facing the emptiness inside you is simply the prelude to being filled with My fullness. Therefore, rejoice on those days when you drag yourself out of bed, feeling sluggish and inadequate. Tell yourself that this is a perfect day to depend on Me in childlike trust. If you persevere in this dependence as you go through the day, you will discover at bedtime that Joy and Peace have become your companions. You may not realize at what point they joined you on your journey, but you will feel the beneficial effects of their presence. The perfect end to such a day is a doxology of gratitude. I am He from whom all blessings flow!
2 Corinthians 4:6
English Standard Version
For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

Matthew 5:3,6
English Standard Version
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

Colossians 2:9-10
English Standard Version
For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, 10 and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority.

Psalm 150:6
English Standard Version
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord!

My Prayer
Lord, you are my strength. May your will be done today. Let light shine out of darkness. May my day be about thirsting for righteousness. You are the great provider. You are the head of all. In You the whole fullness of deity dwells. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. I praise the Lord.

  1. Once AGAIN God through Sarah "coincidentally" (joke) have hit me directly in the area that I needed God today. I am dealing with an unpleasant situation where it will be necessary to rely on His help and wisdom as I am in uncharted waters with my circumstances. Thank you for reminding me it is all in Your grace Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen.

    2. And I thought my "little" professional challenges were "uncharted waters", the irony then to now, and God's grace are unmistakable. JC today confirms our consensus mission statement on my daughter created positivity board: Never give up, Never Surrender with a gratitude attitude!

A "doxology of gratitude" is for all of us as Audra has pointed out. And your prayers JC Warriors for me have undoubtedly contributed to the Peace and yes, Joy that I'm experiencing... still not at 100% joy as Paul wrote but certainly closer to there than fear and unhappiness. May we all experience today, as we approach the ultimate joy in the remembrance and holiday commemorating the birth of God's Son, who represents the ULTIMATE joy for us all... eternal love with family and God in the next life. Amen.

I also enjoyed a radio program yesterday that reminded me of the greatest GIFT of Christmas, that given by GOD who gave us the SON as man. A sacrifice so great so that we may spend eternity with Him, You won't find a gift like that on Amazon or during a sale at your local retailer. Let us ReJOYce with each other, praising Him from whom all blessings flow!

    5. Re-JOY-sing now and praising God from Whom all blessings flow! All my losses are in the past; I am praising God for what I have now and moving on with all that still remains.
As Paul said to the Philippians,
3 Whatever happens, dear friends, be glad in The Lord. Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, 14 I strain to reach the end of the race and receive the prize for which God is calling us up to Heaven because of what Christ Jesus did for us! Amen.

    7. I love this thought from Brennan Manning: To be grateful for an unanswered prayer, to give thanks in a state of interior desolation, to trust in the love of God in the face of the marvels, cruel circumstances, obscenities and commonplaces of life is to whisper a doxology in darkness.

  2. "I am thankful for..." this has been my practice of late. Some days I have to make myself remember the many blessings God has provided. Other days, it's automatic. My goal is to make thankfulness my first nature and not something I finally come around to. In a very short time, I see that God has given me so much more for which to be thankful than I can count. Prayers that I continue this practice and for you, MadFox; God knows your need and you have a great body of believers claiming your victory right along with you.

  3. The celebration of our Lord’s entry into His creation is seven days away. As an airline pilot says, “we our preparing for our final descent” into our destination. Historically, the gospel account of Matthew & Luke is read in this “final descent”. Today, Matthew 1:1-17 is the traditional reading. It is the genealogy of Jesus. This has never qualified to be a part of any Christmas pageant and can be easily skipped over but let’s stop here for a moment “and hear the angels sing” a message to us. Jesus’ heritage is hardly squeaky clean as some believers think we need to be to be “worthy” in the work of God. Yet, amidst these highs and lows of character (some are beyond low), God’s plan of salvation proceeds and no one gets airbrushed out of Jesus’ family picture. Take heart, brother and sister in Christ, you always have been and you always will be in Jesus’ family portrait. Even now, the picture is being taken and it’s not a selfie. Come stand beside me, we are in the picture together.

    10. To be in HIS PRESENCE is the greatest joy, even despite the cares of the world demanding our attention. I could not rest, so I came to my secret place to read my favorite blog and what do you know @MadFox it punched me in my face so to speak but it also brought me joy, because as I was reading my journal I have been crying out over finances the last two years and no matter how hard I tried nothing made sense during the pandemic; loss of job, new job pays less, everything we need to survive cost more and I could not seem to hear a solution from HIM. "In faith, thank Me for your problem. Ask Me to open your eyes and your heart to all that I am accomplishing through this difficulty." This is what we are required to do. For HIM to move in our life, the key word is FAITH. Reading my journal this morning from just three months ago, every prayer on my prayer list is answered, wait let me rephrase that, answered and some! God did more than I asked and HE did it suddenly. I want to encourage someone today; GOd IS LISTENING, but on HIS time and not ours. If HE did for ME, HE WILL do it for you as well!
Have a blessed beyond measure Sunday; MUST grab a few hours of sleep before worship time.

      IN HIS LOVE

  4. "when you drag yourself out of bed, feeling sluggish and inadequate. Tell yourself that this is a perfect day to depend on Me"...

This has been me lately. I used to be fired up for everyday but the world has beat me up over the last couple of years through business and relationships and I find it very difficult to wake up and auto-generate positive energy. I know that I know that I know that God allows this as he is doing his perfect work in my heart showing me that I cannot rely on this world or anything in business or relationships to fill me. It's like refining through the fire. It hurts but I trust he is doing what he needs to do in me. Ouch but Thank You Lord for your love for me

Being filled by him and only him is the reason I get out of bed and face another day. By Jesus's grace and mercy when i get home and lay in bed i can say "I made it, thank you GOD for doing it for me because i couldnt".

COVID is robbing so many of the peace and joy that today's message discusses, I'm convinced that the fraud, lies, and propoganda of the media regarding the disease (and other matters that we rightly refrain from discussing here), could through mighty prayerS by the ENTIRE American Christian community, be overcome and yield a great "re-awakening of faith" in the USA. Faith, HOPE, and love. Hope for our nation is absolutely in keeping with our faith and love of our neighbor. In Him we pray. AMEN.

  18. Gracious Father, Thank You for waking me up to this cold white snowy day in Your Presence! It's a beautiful sight outside, a morning blessing only from You!
Whatever You are trying to teach me during periods of emptiness, may I be reminded that it is because my soul is expanding by Your Divine hands so I can be filled with more of You. Let this desire to serve You and follow Your lead more, cause me to always give of myself to others in need. May Your love for me be enough to be fully filled, lacking nothing. Thank You for the promises to give me everything, as I surrender everything I am and have to You, knowing that I can stake my life on this promise. Whatever emptiness I may feel, I dig deep and trust You, because You answer prayers given in faith. I speak life and fulfillment to every empty area in my life, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

The real truth is, emptiness and restlessness will be there because we were actually created with this emptiness that literally nothing in this world can fill. But Jesus promised to be there in the darkness and fill that void. Being human means we have to allow ourselves to feel and experience that emptiness because it is a hole made for only Christ Jesus, a dwelling place for Him within our hearts. However, God doesn’t just fill our emptiness. In certain seasons of our lives, He sometimes widens it. Why? Because our emptiness can help us recognize our soul’s truer desires, love and longing for our Creator and Father. We must trust Him!

“It takes more faith to believe He’s good and kind and present when He walks through darkness with us instead of plucking us from it.” (unknown).

Tis a great Season! Blessing and Peace now and forever through Christ Jesus, the One and Only reason for this celebration!!

  24. Third Friday in Advent

Our God comes and keeps silence no longer. (Psalm 50:3a)
The LORD is near. (Philippians 4:5b)

Historically, on this day, the tone of Advent changes. Up to this day, the spirit was one of coming in the future.  Beginning with today, the spirit changes to one of immediacy of the LORD’s coming.

The opening antiphon to be chanted/sung switches from Come, let us worship the LORD, the King who is to come, to The LORD is close at hand; come let us worship Him;  the gospel readings are from the birth narratives of Matthew and Luke; and in evening prayer (vesper service), the ‘O Antiphons’ which have been paraphrased into what we know as O Come, O Come, Emmanuel highlight the prayer time.  The antiphons are a magnificent theology that uses ancient biblical imagery drawn from the messianic hopes of the Old Testament to proclaim the coming Christ as the fulfillment not only of Old Testament hopes, but present ones as well. Their repeated use of the imperative "Come!" embodies the longing of all for the Divine Messiah. The purpose of praying the O Antiphons in the evening is to intensify the desire for the LORD’s return and to develop greater expectation of His imminent return.  When prayer is taken seriously, it molds the heart according to the prayer offered.  When I pray for you, it increases my love for you.  With an increased love for you, all interactions will be more loving in nature.   Thus with the O Antiphons being prayed in the final days of Advent, our hearts increase in anticipation of the LORD’s return greatly affecting who we are.

There are seven O Antiphons, one for each of the last seven days of Advent.  When you hear O Come, O Come, Emmanuel amid the Christmas music, you will normally hear just 3-4 of the verses.  It has been thought that the verses are a progression through the Old Testament.

From He Cometh by Fr. McGarry: in the first, O Sapientia, we take a backward flight into the recesses of eternity to address Wisdom, the Word of God. In the second, O Adonai, we have leaped from eternity to the time of Moses and the Law of Moses (about 1400 B.C.). In the third, O Radix Jesse, we have come to the time when God was preparing the line of David (about 1100 B.C.). In the fourth, O Clavis David, we have come to the year 1000. In the fifth, O Oriens we see that the line of David is elevated so that the peoples may look on a rising star in the east, and hence in the sixth, O Rex Gentium, we know that He is king of all the world of man. This brings us to the evening before the vigil, and before coming to the town limits of Bethlehem, we salute Him with the last Great O, O Emmanuel, God-with-us.

The antiphons with dates, scriptures and a prayer:

    17 December: O Sapientia (O Wisdom)
    Isaiah 28:29 Isaiah 11:2-3
O Wisdom of our God Most High, guiding creation with power and love: come to teach us the path of knowledge!

    18 December: O Adonai (O Lord)
    Exodus 24:12 Isaiah  11:4-5; Isaiah 33:22
O Leader of the House of Israel, giver of the Law to Moses on Sinai: come to rescue us with your mighty power!

19 December: O Radix Jesse (O Root of Jesse)
    Isaiah 11:1  Isaiah 11:10; Micah  5:2
O Root of Jesse’s stem, sign of God’s love for all his people: come to save us without delay!

20 December: O Clavis David (O Key of David)
    Isaiah 22:22  Isaiah 42:7
O Key of David, opening the gates of God’s eternal Kingdom: come and free the prisoners of darkness!

    21 December: O Oriens (O Dayspring)
    Isaiah 60:1-2 Malachi 4:2
O Radiant Dawn, splendor of eternal light, sun of justice: come and shine on those who dwell in darkness and in the shadow of death.

    1. 22 December: O Rex Gentium (O King of the Nations)
      Isaiah 2:4 Isaiah 9:6; Isaiah 64:8

O King of all nations and keystone of the Church: come and save man, whom you formed from the dust!

23 December: O Emmanuel (O God with us)
      Isaiah 7:14 NRSV
O Emmanuel, our King and Giver of Law: come to save us, Lord our God! To be noted, if you take the first letter of each Latin antiphon it makes the acrostic SARCORE.  Spelled backwards, it is EROC RAS which translated from the Latin is, “Tomorrow, I will be there.”

So what could you do with all this?

You could offer the appropriate prayer before retiring at night.

You could read/sing the daily verse the (here is the link for all the verses):

Lyrics to O Come O Come Emmanuel https://dailyprayer.us/Christian_song_lyrics/Christian_song_lyrics.php?s=o_come_o_come_emmanuel

And if you want to sing with the Piano Guys:

      O come, O come, Emmanuel - (Piano/Cello) - The Piano Guy
      https://youtu.be/iO7ySn-Swwc

You could sit quietly and reflect on the scriptures; I would suggest reading the whole paragraph from which the verse is taken.

Or do whatever you feel drawn to do.  Be blessed! The LORD is near and that is a good thing!

      God be with you, Bob

  27. And they said to Him, "Do you hear what these are saying?" And Jesus said to them, ""Yes, have you never read, "Out of the mouth of infants and nursing babies you have prepared praise'?" (Matthew 21:16). And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him. (Hebrews 11:6). Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 18:4). But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. (2 Timothy 3:14-15). Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it." (Mark 10:15). All your children shall be taught by the LORD, and great shall be the peace of your children. (Isaiah 54:13).

  30. In times of stress, staying in bed can be so tempting. Docs tell us that clinical depression can cause extreme fatigue. With illness, often it is the fatigue and being home alone where we feel emptiness.

In the past 6 to 8 weeks that challenge was met with gratitude, in Him there was light. The effects of the maintenance chemo over the past 5 months was a steady decline in the number of red blood cells (RBC) and hemaglobin, which caused even further fatigue and breathing issues. Ultimately, I needed a transfusion of RBC.

SO BLESSED to report feeling amazingly better at the new lower maintenance chemo levels and with having the RBC tank "topped off"! Ha ha! Still grateful to be walking into the infusion center when so many are in wheelchairs or walkers. With gratitude as Sarah writes above, we can then be the light with Him sustaining us by having Joy and Peace with us. Particularly this time of year. To all, a very Merry Christmas season.

  46. As Maplewood stated in an earlier crossover post...December is a great, special and wonderful month. A month in remembrance of our Savior’s birth, a month when hope and redemption came into the world, a month of jubilation, celebration, a month that will forever be cherished!
Our devotion reminds us when we allow ourselves to rest QUIETLY in His Presence, then His Light within us QUICKLY grows brighter and brighter!
To celebrate the 17th day of this celebratory month, I PLAN to give JESUS "Q" gifts of QUIET meditation on His QUOTED Words in Isaiah 30: 15, For the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, says: "Only in returning to me and waiting for me will you be saved; in QUIETNESS and confidence is your strength" and to QUICKLY return my thoughts and heart to QUIET when they stray.

QUEEN ESTHER risked her life to go before the King to save her people, the Jews. Because of this, God made a way for His Son Jesus to come into the world. That's our God! He makes a way when there doesn't seem to be a way! QUEEN ESTHER was just an ordinary person until God placed her in a palace as a QUEEN. This makes one think about where God has placed you and what He might be calling you to do. Then there is her courage as shown in Esther 4:16 "Go, gather all together the Jews, who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my attendants will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the King, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish." She took her eyes off herself and found courage to speak BOLDLY to the King. Her undying courage saved her people and brought the downfall of the enemy. HER BOLD SPEAKING AND HER COURAGE BROUGHT ABOUT THE DOWNFALL OF THE ENEMY! A lady after my own heart, my hero, QUEEN ESTHER! GOD ALWAYS WINS!!!

  48. Heavenly Father, thank You and bless Your holy name! I praise You Lord always and thank You Jesus 😊. Lord, help me to surrender all that I need to and let my heart be right for You. Help me to bring everything to You and not to lean on my own understanding. Please nudge me when I forget Lord. Please keep me close in Your heart and draw me closer to You. Let the world come to know and receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. In Jesus name, I pray, Amen 🙏.

  49. My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. (Psalm 121:2-4).

  50. To Anonymous, whose son is starting a bakery as a new business. My Papa God, I come boldly into Your Throne of Grace and ask for You to give this precious son wisdom beyond his years. Give him power beyond his own strength and bless him with finances and Your Joy as he serves You through the gift of entrepreneurship. And satan, I say to you:"REMOVE your hand from this precious son. REMOVE your hand from his business, REMOVE your hand of doubt, discouragement and failure. You are a defeated enemy and Jesus already paid the price of redemption through His Shed Blood! No weapon formed against this son shall prosper." I Declare and Decree that because of My Papa God, this son is Blessed. And my God will do Exceedingly, Abundantly above all that he asks or thinks. I pray, my Papa God, chase him down and overtake him with your Blessings and Courage. Pleading the Blood of Jesus over all. I Pray and Believe in the Mighty Name of Jesus--Who makes a way when there doesn't seem to be a way, AMEN and AMEN.

2 Corinthians 9:8 "And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work."
