Jesus Calling: September 24

Live first and foremost in my presence. Gradually you will become more aware of Me than of people and places around you. This awareness will not detract from your relationships with others. Instead, it will increase your ability to give love and encouragement to them. My Peace will permeate your words and demeanor. You will be active in the world, yet one step removed from it. You will not be easily shaken, because my enveloping Presence buffers the blow of problems.
This is the path I have set before you. As you follow it wholeheartedly, you experience abundant Life and Peace.
Psalm 89:15–16
English Standard Version

15 Blessed are the people who know the festal shout,
who walk, O Lord, in the light of your face,
16 who exult in your name all the day
and in your righteousness are exalted.

Psalm 16:8
English Standard Version

I have set the Lord always before me;
because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.

2 Peter 1:2
English Standard Version

May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.

Thoughts (2019)
As I read these devotions again and again, the phrase "in my presence" comes up again and again. I've noticed that the Old Testament seems to have more references to this phrase than the new, but it remains a common phrase. It seems to mean a personal encounter with God, yet it was not necessarily a dramatic encounter, but could occur in many different fashions. And I think that is what she is trying to convey that God's presence is with us throughout all of life. For one, followers of Jesus have received the Holy Spirit so God is with us at all times, but still as humans we try to do things our own way and in our own power still, and we need to stay surrendered and trusting in God. And in these verses is that understanding, the results of "blessing" and "not shaken" and "grace and peace multiplied." Thus, I can be confident in this place, and it will make all the difference in my life.

  1. I’ve shared this thought before but as I prepare to continue my summer/fall travels, it comes to me again. When I travel a familiar route, I draw upon past travels to know my way. When it is somewhere I’ve never been before, I put the destination in my GPS and proceed to do EVERYTHING it tells me and thus arrive at the intended destination. Hmmm, I have never traveled this day before in my life. I may think I know where I am going but ultimately I really don’t. Because of Pentecost, I am filled with a GPS system in the gift of the Holy Spirit. Oh to trust and obey EVERYTHING (every prompting to love) I am directed to do this day by God’s love within by the Spirit. In so doing, I will arrive at His intended destination for me today. In so doing, I will experience the admonition of Psalm 118:24 - “This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.” God be with you!

    1. It's a year later....love this. "I am filled with a GPS system in the gift of the Holy Spirit." You're right. If we follow our GPS step by step and do everything it says, we arrive where we should be, but I too often doubt that GPS in the Holy Spirit. It could take me over an unfamiliar and rocky terrain. And I'm often uncertain as to what is the Holy Spirit GPS or the other voices, and often I'm afraid "rerouting" is common in my life. Mary-OKC

    2. Two kids in the backseat of a car talking about the marvel of GPS. One says to the other, "my mom says they used to use a GPS but it was called a MAP". Whatever we call it, we know it's source has been given to us in HIS WORD. Thanks, Bob, for a great analogy.

Bob, A wonderful and precious thought ' I am filled with a GPS system in the gift of the Holy Spirit.'One wonderful experience of that is when I received specific instructions from Him, naming the task, the time, the date and even where the person I was to meet was sitting. EVERYTHING transpired as the Lord through the Holy Spirit informed me it would. Thanks for the analogy of GPS. Love in Christ

    1. Unknown, one important thing to remember is that God Lord you. He really does. He sent His only Son to die for you. He never promised that life would not have problems or disappointments but that He would be with us always. Ask Him yo walk and talk with you and to be your guide/GPS. It makes all the difference! Love you and praying you séek God's presence in your life above all else.

  7. unknown unknown hopefully found a mentor/friend that has helped her find the missing pieces to her faith since the numerous postings a year ago. That's my prayer for her still (as this blog can only do so much). However, I couldn't help but think that along with today's devo and scripture that the old hymm taken from Mathew 6:33 still answers her and our question: "seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Hallelujah!"

So much of our thoughts start first with us... if we can somehow put God into our thoughts and prayers FIRST each day, and thus be in His presence as Sarah writes... then we should have a grace that will "permeate our words and demeanor TODAY" and give us and those we interact with, "abundant life and peace."

    Godspeed to all here. Amen.

    1. Good morning JJ, JC family🥰. How are you JJ? Lord thank you for JJ. She loves you Lord, she's one of your mighty warriors, she's a hound for heaven, always reporting for duty at the first prompting of her "GPS", the Holy Spirit. Hold her close Lord as she trust you with her heart issue. Don't let her flesh buckle under the weight of this uncertainty in her path. 8. As I reread the devotional for today, it started to grip my soul. Who am I Lord that you would honor & bless me with your presence? The world is a mess! Sooo many are clamoring for a straighter path to travel, tugging at your robe, crying out to you for help. You're there, you're here, you're everywhere! Yet you have time for me? Thank you Lord! Praise you Lord! I bow down & worship you now! My Saviour, my King, my Magnificent Obsession! Hallelujah! Amen.

  9. A new day has dawned and I am in it. My household, love ones, friends, family and neighbors are in it. Only Your mercy and grace made it possible, so I humble my heart before Your Holy Presence to say THANK YOU LORD!
Like the song says: 'Your Presence is Heaven to me'.

It is right and so fitting to live in the Presence of our Lord because on our own, we can never stand. Holy Spirit, may the unspeakable joy and peace Jesus left with us, move us to love and bless others so that they too can experience the fulness of joy in Your Presence. We claim this Peace and joy that scatters the dark forces and destroys the plans of the evil one, while elevating us to a higher level of rest and abundant life. Thank You Lord.
May we receive and hold onto Your power that flows so freely to enable us to live abundantly in the midst of our limitations, in Jesus name!

Praying without ceasing for all circumstances, that God will mend all the broken hearts and put the pieces back together, in Jesus name.

Please continue to lift Adam up in prayers. I trust God for his full recovery and may he serve and testify of God 's Greatness when he walks out of that hospital.

Let us claim all 3 scriptures from the devotion this morning and "May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord". 2 Peter 1:2.

A great and blessed day to all.

  13. Lord when I do even one minute of life on my own I tend to do it the world's way. I keep saying I wish I could figure out how to involve you in every decision and move i make each day but the world definitely works hard for its stronghold in my life. I dont sense that i outright sin all day however i react to the world, people and circumstances with a selfish, defensive, impatient, etc kind of way so easily sometimes. Instead of giving grace I tend to hold grudges. I ask forgiveness but then go right back to reacting or responding the same way I did before. Then I beat myself up over the "dumb" thing that I did...not even giving myself grace. I am constantly thinking about what I have done wrong in life and what I wish life could be like instead of being thankful for what God has done and thinking about what He is doing in my life and others as we speak. Lord help me have a half full glass instead of half empty. Lord help me have your eyes for this thing we call life. I would tell my kids the same thing if they asked me how to live. Kids, Live with grace, love, peace, think of others before your self...live and love like theres no tomorrow...life here is too short to worry about all that and God is in control anyway...if you would let Him lead. Live life as if Heaven will be your eternal home and this is just a pitstop. Lord make these words real to me, my kids, my wife, everyone!

    3. Goodness me Riseup. Don't be so hard on yourself. Every single person on this blog has been on the same journey at one time or another. News flash! Speaking for myself, still flubbing up! The best thing is you are so aware of these weak areas. So many maneuver through life as if they have no need of conviction, let alone acknowledge the power of the Holy Spirit to clean up their act. Thank you Riseup for sharing with us. We all need to be reminded. Let's pray for all of us.🥰

      Delete
    4. Agree! we are NOT perfect and will "flub" until the end. As Paul said, "I am the worst." Reality? Paul, of course, was not. My friend and I discussed this as we get older as Christians, we indeed are far better people than we were earlier in our Christian walk. but for the right reasons we feel we are getting worse the better we do! In Christ all things are possible and so, we march forward bringing forth new faith, new strength, and new examples of "fighting the good fight."

So yes, we will always sin but our response and our faith will be a light unto the world and a blessing to us personally. Peace is a process and we will only have it perfectly IN HEAVEN!

  19. THOUGHTS ON INTIMACY WITH OUR LORD

In using Psalm 95 as an invitatory psalm to enter into our 'date' with God, vs. 6 call us, "O Come, let us worship and bow down, Let us kneel before the LORD, our Maker!" The element of humility is brought into this time together. Let us ponder that for today.

Back to the analogy of meeting someone you dearly love for a time together between just the two of you. As the conversation begins, do you inquire of the other (how have you been, how is the family, how are you doing, etc.) or do you start off with 'let me tell you all about me and what is going on in my world.' In a blessed relationship, humility is experienced in not focusing on self but by being fully interested in the other. Of course, in this loving relationship, our loved one will naturally reciprocate.

Let me share with you my experience of this in my morning devotions this day. I began as I suggested above and in the manner I have been explaining the past several days. So I practiced humility by inquiring of the Lord of what He would like to say. Following a reading of Psalm 95, I opened my devotional to the words, "He was pierced for our offenses, let us give thanks and praise." I then was invited to sing the classic hymn, 'When I Survey the Wondrous Cross' which I did slowly and thoughtfully. Then a Canticle was provided which was the Suffering Servant passage from Isaiah 52:13-53:5. Through this opening, the Spirit set my attention on the extent of His love for me demonstrated on the cross. This whole beginning, graciously put my soul in praise and thanksgiving mode. After listening to Him, He then reciprocated and asked how things were with me. Before speaking, the words of Romans 8:32 ran through my mind: 'If He who did not hesitate to spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us all, can we not trust such a God to give us with Him everything else we could need?' 'All is fine with me.' I answered, 'All is perfectly fine.'

As you enter your time with our Lord, let Him go first.

God be with you! With love, Bob

      Delete
    3. Thanks be to God for this eye opener through you, Bob! I did as you suggested. After praising and worshipping Him for keeping us safe and dry through all the hours of torrential rains we had last night, (and the things that went bump), this morning, I inquired of the Lord, asking Him what He would like to say? He sang the song, "Trust In Me" by Etta James.
After last nights torrents and awaking alive, safe and dry, how could I not?
      Trust in Me
HE SAID Ships stay buoyed up with deep stormy water all around them; ships sink when they let that same water that is all around them, get inside of them.  Let what's happening all around you on the world stay outside of you and be bouyed up in Christ! Then He sang, "Rescue" by Lauren Daigle
I asked if He was tired of managing storms, keeping us safe, never getting rest? He said to see our appreciative eyes the next morning, bright and shiny like a truly believing kid on Christmas morning, makes it all worthwhile, and He gets energized to do more, but He never gets tired.
And you? He asked. All I could say was Thank You Lord! I appreciate You Lord. Amen.

  22. Please keep this young friend of mine in your prayers. Camille was just at the beginning of a great musical career and she is working to stay positive and thankful. Here is what she shared: "Last week I noticed my right eye 👁️ was blurry. As the week went on I kept losing sight in my right eye 🚨 after 9 hours of emergency appointments w/ Doctors & 2.5hr roadtrip to see a retina specialist I finally had a diagnosis.... MEWDS = rare retina disease that has 0 causes or treatment.
Now for the the GOOD NEWS! 💫Literally loosing my sight has allowed me to focus and see things more clearly than ever have before. We only have this moment, don't delay or put things off until tomorrow. Go for everything that makes your heart sparkle. You never know when your whole existence will change.
The silver lining of this whole thing for me is realizing that my voice is so powerful and that I need to be using it every day and not necessarily communicating only through screens. I'm making more phone calls, spending more time recording, sitting quietly in nature with my eyes closed & have started doing my favorite thing in the world again...laying on my living room floor & listening to my favorite albums start to finish 🙌🏾
While glasses and blue blockers might be a new &/or permanent accessory for me I don't mind a bit! I have so much to be thankful for... I'm still smiling and shining. As always, it is so important to remain + strive to BE Yourself!"

  24. Please JC fam can you keep my uncle in your prayers ? Tomorrow morning he will undergo surgery to remove a polyp from his thyroid gland. Doctors can't be 100% sure but they think the polyp is benign. There is a risk that the vocal cords may be damaged during the surgery, which can cause a loss of voice. He is not a believer so I also pray that he opens his heart to God.
Thank you for your prayers JC family. God bless you all richly!

  26. Praying specifically and with a dedication for all prayer requests. So very thankful for the answered prayers and praise report. Totally humbled and thankful for all of the prayers yesterday. The encouragement I received and the knowledge that my beloved JC Family was praying brought encouragement and joy and an expectation for answers. Calls were better yesterday and at the end of the day, I had some solid 'next steps,' for a dad trying to gain custody of his 4 & 5 year old. An attorney agreed to get on the phone with me and him and she had some God-given next steps for him. My boss reminded me that we all have 'personal responsibility,' and that a Caseworker can't be expected to take that on for them. It's a tough message to deliver when the person is crying out for help, but as I read in previous posts, I acknowledge again, "From whence cometh my help?" My help comes from the Lord - and so does theirs!
Praying for your Uncle, Anonymous; for Marco and Camille, Brie. Thanking God for your shoulder, Sassy Mom!
Bob, before I started writing, I revisited your posts on our Intimacy with our Lord and it gives me a solid mind picture of what that time is like. Humming, "I come to the garden alone..." we greet one another and I request His input all throughout the day. Sure as the world, I'll hit 'Post,' and there will be more great things to read that I'll want to comment on, but on I must go. So very thankful. Please pray for my friend's trip to p/u her daughter from college for her sister's wedding and the other family members driving across the country to be here. I will host 40 of them on Sunday for the After Wedding Brunch. Much to do and I know I'm not doing it alone! Love and Blessings to all.

Praying for your friend's traveling safety and that God will see you through hosting 40 family members Sunday for the After Wedding Brunch. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. 27. Dear Loving Father, It’s a new day, fresh anointing has been poured upon me and I just want to say, thank You Lord, thank You Lord! As I put You first and foremost, I know Your mercy and grace will always be with me, even in the toughest day. Calling onto You in prayer does not change You, but it changes me! Help me to “FAITH it ‘till I make it”! Thank You for Your grace that is sufficient for me. I pray this in the name of Jesus my Lord and KING! Amen.

Before we start our day in which He blessed us to be in, we must first thank and acknowledge God! When we do this, we find out how more blessed our day goes. It may not be perfect, but He carries us through with His mercy and grace ! On the other hand, when we don’t, He steps aside and allows us to try and figure it out, and we know how that ends up! He is aware of all our needs and promised to provide for us (Philippians 4:19). But when we seek Him first and foremost in everything that we do, He will establish His plan for our lives. Matthew 6:33 says: “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you”. That’s a promise we cannot resist! As Christian believers, we are called to make all the things of God a priority, and that includes our salvation, pressing to live a life of righteousness, walking in obedience, spreading the gospel and just going about our Father’s business! The Bible points out that we cannot serve two master, We must put God first, fall in love with our Creator, trust in Him fully, delight ourselves in Him, spend time alone in His Presence and be like Jesus in taking care of His people (“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,”- Matt. 28:19)! God is NOT seeking our perfection, All He is after is our heart and we are wise when we give it ALL to Him first and foremost!

Dear Father, Thank You for Your sacrifice so that we might have freedom and life. May we have the bold conscious of putting You first and foremost in every aspect of our lives to experience Your abundant Life and Peace in us, for Jesus’s sake. Amen.

Thanking the Lord for ALL the Victory Testimonies here on this blog! Thank You Jesus for all these healing and other VICTORIES!- Terri, Sassy Mom, Unknown, Jan, Norah.

Continued prayers of trust for ALL here: 60s Granny daughter, for Blessings from France’s uncle as he undergoes surgery tomorrow,
Brie’s friends- Marco’s travelling and healing/comfort for Camille!

  33. DEVOTION FROM THE BEACH: BOUYED UP BY HIS GRACE AND MERCY
Buoys serve to lift up and support docks, secure fishing nets, save people's lives. They are overlooked as insignificant until times of need or life threatening situations. In our struggle with sin, we need God's Spiritual Bouys to sustain us. All sin and struggle is within God's realm of Forgiveness.  As we grow into the Grace and Mercy found in His Kingdom, we realize our need to be well secured to His Bouys, like a dock in the storm, or stabilized like a boat on deep, rough and troubled waters, safe like fishing nets remaining afloat when overflowing with fish, or saved like a person from a riptide. Only God's Grace and Mercy Bouys can secure, stabilize, and save us the same way.

    MY PRAYER FOR US:
    Dear Heavenly Father God,
Would you lift us up above the water line with You Grace and Mercy Bouys today? Would You Forgive us when we look to the world to bouy us up instead of You? Would You bouy us up in Your Kingdom with Your Grace, Mercy, and Forgiveness until we are more unsinkable than Molly Brown? I ask. I pray. I thank. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

    1. Thank you Jan. Today's devotion and His Word tells us, Gradually you will become more aware of Me than of people and places around you and You will not be easily shaken, because my enveloping Presence buffers the blow of situations and circumstances just as buoys do.
Thank You Lord for your enveloping Presence, and Thank You for buoying us up again today, keeping us whole, intact and encouraged, and for lifting us up with Your Buoys today. Oh, how we need You! In the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, may grace and peace be multiplied to our JC Family of Prayer warriors, and each of their dear ones. May we all be exalted upon the Buoys of His Righteousness whenever we need them and when we overlook them. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

    2. We can develop this attitude by considering God’s perspective, to look beyond short-term annoyances and realize that God’s purposes are greater than we imagine. We learn to “walk in the light of your presence”, by seeking his ways. His ways teach us to be humble, undemanding, merciful, wholesome, peaceable and desirous for more of him (Matthew 5:3-10). Whereas the ways of the world are full of self-promotion and self-preoccupation.

  37. I love my job the children I homescholl are adorable and eager to learn. Yesterday the parent lost his temper while dealing with his gardener , he shouted and cursed the children were so frightened ...our class ended right there ! I was busy thinking I cant work here ....then the Holy spirit prompted me to look above the situation and look at God's plan ! I prayed for the children, prayed for the parent and for myself cause I wanted to quit on the spot . Praising God isn’t something we do just when we are feeling emotionally warm and happy with our circumstances. When we understand God’s greatness we’re able to praise him regardless of what’s going on in our lives because we know that what’s happening in the spiritual realms is far more enduring than our temporary inconveniences. However, it takes time to cultivate this perspective. Acclaiming God is a learned attitude that comes with spiritual maturity. Lord help me !

It doesn't mean you condone that behavior, you're simply rising above! Sending peace and blessings, Min!

    4. Dear Min Ahadi, Sorry you had to go through that. God is in your corner. Stand firm in the Lord and be the light in that bad situation. The things that are created by Him and that will endure.

  40. JC: "Gradually you will become more aware of Me... it will increase your ability to give love and encouragement to them. My Peace will permeate your words and demeanor." As I enter the fourth month of a many years long maintenance routine, it is apparent that my overall health compared to those in the infusion center is far better than nearly all who are receiving treatment.

This awareness absolutely helps me to realize the blessings of my early diagnosis and underscores God's use of my gregarious nature to bring a smile or an encouraging word to the patients that I may be able to see each week. Challenging as my relatively few side effects are, they pale in comparison to the physical and mental anguish that cancer can inflict upon the human body and spirit. Nearly a year since my diagnosis brings me to the realization of how my faith was in need of realignment.

JC: "This is the path I have set before you. As you follow it wholeheartedly, you experience abundant Life and Peace." God did not give me MM to alter my path, rather due to my diagnosis He has set a path that I can choose to follow and have His peace in that journey. Is there a path you should be on that God has made you aware of? Min Ahadi, I agree for now, God has provided a path that is bringing you the joy of teaching. Until He opens a new path, it would appear that you are indeed "where you need to be!".

Godspeed JC friends, I'm doing well and remain in remission. Adjustment of my meds has helped with some temporary significant side effect issues but again, so blessed and I see that as I walk into the infusion center each week. Peace.

With tears in his eyes, he said, "Mom, I have something from all 6 of you! I am ALL of you!" I told him that he was his OWN man - a Son of God with all Power. He loves and cherishes his wife (& so rightly so - she is a Prov 31 Woman), as Christ loved the Church; he nurtures his children; he respects his mother and father and is a friend to anyone who glances his way. He is a Man of God and I get to spend Eternity with him. Anyway, I truly believe this evening was better, in part, due to your prayers and believing for and in me. Can't thank you enough, JC Family. Please know that I have read and am praying for all of you.

    1. Oh, Brie --- You used one of my scriptures I use everyday, bright and early. Psalm 70:1 "O God come to my assistance; Lord, make haste to help me." Also I repeat it several times as I go through my daily activities. One of my staples!!! I receive ALL the love you send my way! Love and Blessings right back at you! JJ

  53. Good morning, JC Warriors. I come to you all asking for prayers for my 11 month old grandson, George. He's been sick since Wednesday with a double ear infection, high, relentless fever (102-104) that will come down a few degrees when Motrin is onboard or piggy-backing Motrin & Tylenol but comes right back. They're doing everything they know to do and it's just not going away. He is miserable and they are exhausted. If you could add Georgie, Paula & Ben to your prayers, I'd be so grateful as I know they'd be too. Thank you, awesome JC family.

  56. Asking for prayers, JC Family for: my friend, Judy's BIL who has COVID and only one kidney; for my Best Man's upcoming cardiac tests and the quick processing of the results; for my house, which is torn up due to the construction going on. I need gumption to 'get rid,' and discernment to not throw away the wrong things.
"This is the path I have set before you. As you follow it wholeheartedly, you experience abundant Life and Peace." Please keep me on this path, Lord!
My next thought was: well, you need to get off the computer and your phone in order to start pitching!" LOL - OK, I get it, Father. :)

    1. Joining prayers for you dear Norah for healing of your friend Judy's brother in love with Covid and for your DH's good and quick results, and also for God's guidance as you separate the wheat from the chaff in your house. Please continue to pray for my new Bible member Tom who just got Covid with his son and his son's wife. He lives alone since his wife's death 2 years ago. God will show us His faithfulness and answer our prayers as we trust in Him and stay grounded in His presence. Thank You Jesus.
