Jesus Calling: September 27

Relax in My everlasting arms. Your weakness is an opportunity to grow strong in awareness of My Almighty Presence. When your energy fails you, do not look inward and lament the lack you find there. Look to Me and My sufficiency; rejoice in My radiant riches that are abundantly available to help you.
Go gently through this day, leaning on Me and enjoying My Presence. Thank Me for your neediness, which is building trust-bonds between us. If you look back on your journey thus far, you can see that days of extreme weakness have been some of your most precious times. Memories of these days are richly interwoven with golden strands of My intimate Presence.

Deuteronomy 33:27
English Standard Version

The eternal God is your dwelling place,
and underneath are the everlasting arms.
And he thrust out the enemy before you
    and said, ‘Destroy.’

Psalm 27:13-14
English Standard Version

13 I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord
in the land of the living!
14 Wait for the Lord;
    be strong, and let your heart take courage;
    wait for the Lord!

  2. Heavenly Father, I ask that you enter my heart, my body, soul, mind and especially my will today. Thank you for being my one true Father who never disappoints and ask that I turn my will over to you and allow You to Father me. I need you as my Father and cannot truly live life without your presence. I thank you for all that you do for me and all the riches you give me throughout the day. I also thank you for the disruptions in my life that many times I do not understand at the moment but many times look back and realize it was what was best for me and was Your true love in Fathering me.

    2. Lord almighty I am learning that the worst suffering of all would be separation from you. Thank you for always protecting me from this fate worse than death. Thank you that Jesus died so that I would never have to feel the effects of separation from you. Help me Lord to relish in the times of deep need and dependency fully knowing and understanding it is one of your most precious gifts to me. Help me to display this to the world as well so I may demonstrate your Vast and continual glory available to all who know you. Praise God that I am yours in Jesus name. Forgiven and set free.

    3. Good Morning Fern! I read my devotionals early and at work. My books are at work and I went on the cite for today. It is 2020 and your post from 2017 represents exactly how I feel today and pray that it will continuously throughout the rest of my time here until I am in heaven with our Lord. Have a blessed day and thank you!

  3. If you look back on your journey, you can see...I have arrived where I was raised and graduated (Iron Mountain,MI). Tomorrow I will gather with my classmates for our 50th class reunion. As I remember my teen years, a time of molding and shaping by the hand of God, how gracious God was as I passed through that time. My behavior missed the mark of love more times than I can count. My words were not always a blessing to others. Fortunately, even my unloving desires were thwarted by our gracious Lord. But when my classmates gather tomorrow evening, I don’t suspect anyone will focus on any of those things. We will be glad to see each other again and we will enjoy each other as we should have 50 years ago. Thanks be to God for maturity that came through it all and God's grace that never gave me my do for all unloving thoughts, words, and deeds that are part of the adolescent years. Yes, I look back and see that through it all God was at work to mold me to His glory. In our gathering tomorrow, I suspect we will live in the present and not hold anything from the past against each other. (And if there should be a moment from the past that still lingers, I shall stand ready to say I am sorry.) I see a bit of heaven coming in all this.

  6. 3 a.m. and an early interruption of sleep. As is customary each day for nearly 2 years, I seek the Lord in prayer and to read the JC devo through this blog community. I'm still in awe of how Chris' effort has morphed into a convenient way to read JC and then the bonus benefit of a prayer community.

Perhaps others here have dealt with lengthy times of professional turmoil. I have been for over a year and have dealt with situations where one's "energy" has been drained. Try as one might, you can't help but look back at painful mistakes and seemingly wise decisions. Yesterday was a day of learning that people fail to do as they should and as you've asked. So, today's message is a great reminder of putting your faith in Him AND of how blessed I am in so MANY other parts of my life. Nevermind, I'm not being crucified unjustly as our Lord was. Nor do I have anywhere near the challenges of the many seeking prayers here.

In faith, and humbly, I seek the Lord's hand in this rough terrain and this community's prayers that this season will be resolved sooner than later. And may this be true for all the JC community here, Father, hear our prayers and let us find peace in your everlasting arms. Amen.

    5. MADFOX. I relate after a 40 year timespan in corporate america with a dysfunctional company that kept it that way on purpose to keep employees in ego and competitive mode under the everpresent threat of layoffs.
The good news? It drove me closer an closer to God. I still have my Christian Daily Planner that I used everyday to get me through the madness. I chuckle at the work entries that seemed so important then and are totally meaningless now. The Book, Hope For The Flowers helped me get off that Caterpillar pileup. Praying for you to continuing seeing God's hand, trusting in His Holy Word, through it all. I ask. I pray. I thank. With much love. Brie

    6. Yes Anonymous CO, challenges are challenges are challenges are challenges. There is no Phase 1, Phase 2, Phase 3, nor Phase 4 where challenges are concerned!
All challenges need prayer and God, which may be one of the reasons we get them??

    7. Madfox. A great message to put your trust in the Lord. Those around us don't always follow through and we are so imperfect. Turmoil and stress is just part of the human condition. But just reaching for His Hand when we are walking through rough terrain is enough for Him to make our paths smooth again. He wants us to seek Him in our rough times. It's better to trust in God than Men. We don't always do that, but we should reach to Him before all others. He is the One who has the answers and solutions. He is the Peace that covers everything.
Brie! I can relate. I worked at Merrill Lynch for many years and then as a Legal Secretary for 30 years and through it all, Jesus kept me peaceful, hopeful and cheerful. I sought out other believers and we encouraged each other. I tried to be a bringer of His light and lifted all that I could. Through the many ups and downs, and too many cigarettes and stress, the Lord was at my side calming me and restoring my spirit. I am more than a conqueror. Thank you Jesus!

thank you for being a light for all of us in this community. your strength is admirable. so because this devotional speaks about neediness and our extreme weaknesses.. how do work through that.. how do we not feel so bogged down by all of our worries? I know prayer is so helpful and trusting that God has a bigger plan for all the bumps in the road. How do we trust how do we let go of expectation and our neediness? how do we lean in and just commit fully?

  19. DEVOTIONS FROM THE BEACH: THE STRENGTH OF SEA OATS
    FROM MATTHEW 11
Come to Me and I will give rest to all of you who work so hard beneath a heavy yoke.  Wear My Yoke. It fits you perfectly. Let Me teach you. I am gentle and humble, and you shall find rest for your souls. I only give you light burdens.

    MY PRAYER FOR US:
Ahh! Lovely, graceful, gently moving in the wind, Sea Oats.  What's their secret for always appearing so relaxed and so easy going and with so much sway above ground? The answer my friend, is not blowing in the wind. The answer lies deep underneath their surface. There, a strong complex root system exists. The Sea Oats trust their root system to carry the load.  A root system with the strength that sand and soil need for 'keeping it all together' during storms, hurricanes and other extreme conditions. When the Sea Oats' root system is firmly established, then they are low maintenance and immune to pests. On our beach walk, sea oats also guide us to the sea.
When our gentle friend, Jesus is firmly rooted in our hearts, then we become like His Sea Oats. As we journey on, He tenderly guides us and reminds us that we are almost there!

    Dear Heavenly Father God,
Because they illustrate how perfectly You created this world and anchor our spiritual life so we can relax in Your Everlasting Arms while growing stronger in our awareness of Your Presence, would You accept our Praise and Thank You for inviting us to be Sea Oats and reaping all their benefits? Yes! Yes! Lord. We desire to be Your Sea Oats. We want to accept Your Invitation. We need Your Help. Would You help us? I knock. I seek. I ask. I pray in Jesus' Name. Amen.

I gleam from all of the pearls of wisdom that I find every time I visit here. But this day I am compelled to ask the believers for prayer for my beloved cousin who has been suffering with illnesses since she was 19. Now in her 50’s she is tired and weary from fighting the good fight. She is refusing treatment and i believe depression is trying to take root in her life causing her to want to give up. I solicit the prayers of the righteous because I know they availeth much. Please help me pray for a miracle healing for my cousin. I believe God is wanting to do a new thing in her life.

Today's devotion says, Look to Me and My sufficiency; rejoice in My radiant riches that are abundantly available to help you...Memories of these days are richly interwoven with golden strands of My intimate Presence...
And, Thank you for reminding me of my Mom's reminder. She was a firm believer and included WITH GOD ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE in her daily devotions.
Here is one of the readings she shared with me:
THANKING GOD FOR ALL HIS BLESSINGS ON YOU!
A stranger was passing through a small town in the fruit growing section of the country. The folks were having a picnic, singing, dancing, and celebrating to the music of an old fashioned harmonium (It's Cherry Pink And Apple Blossom Time, perhaps?) Stopping before a gray haired country woman, the stranger said, What are you celebrating lady?
The old lady answered, You must be a stranger, the old lady answered; we are celebrating Apple Blossom Day!
The stranger looked around, and saw that all the apple trees were bare, and said, But where are the apple blossoms?
The old lady replied with a sigh, They all froze last week; they froze for miles and miles around.
The stranger asked, Then what on earth do you have to celebrate and be so thankful about?
The old lady stood up straight and tall and said, It would take more than frost kill to stop us from celebrating because thanks be to God, we had a Mighty Good apple harvest last year, and God helping, there will be more apple blossoms next spring, so we are celebrating God and thanking Him in advance!
Ephesians 5: Giving thanks always for all things unto God!
Dear Heavenly Father God, Would You help us be thankful for all our blessings? And may we be doubly thankful for the privilege of praying to You, for the gift of Your Infinite Everpresence, for Your Being forever with us, watching over us and each of our dear ones, and directing our steps toward greater contentment and joy in Your Word? In Jesus' Name. Amen.
Thanks Mom, Gone from my sight, yet always remembered in my heart.

    7. I love this fruitFULL story, Brie!
This year, lots of plum blossoms but moderate fruit yield. I think God decided it was a year for peaches and apples as we have a super abundance of each all around town. I'm jammin'!
Thank you Jesus, you provide what we need all in good time. ♥️✝️

What a wonderful harvest, Audra! You are giving God the glory and He is blessing you with the fruit of your labor and an abundance that you can share. I'll bet your sweet plums make the best jam! Enjoy and be blessed!

  23. Beautiful prayers for Revival and Return yesterday. I wrote down my thoughts and they just became a prayer to share:

Father God, We are praying You give the world a new heart and a new spirit.
Wash us of any wickedness. Help us turn away from bad ways. You know us by the fruit of our deeds. Let our fruit be sweet.
Lead us to be bold witnesses and bringers of Your Word. Change us. Put a fire of repentance, renewal and revival in our hearts.
Open our hearts to release the fear, so every fiber of our being can be filled with your peace. Let us rest in the assurance that You are our God.
Lead your people to follow Your laws. Rid of us the ungodly who threaten to separate us from your love and pull us off the straight course of righteousness. Change their hearts so they will see You are the only way to salvation. Open their closed eyes, soften their hardened hearts and give them clarity of mind.
Rid us of racism, terrorism, violence and hatred. Gives us new eyes of faith to see Your People through Your eyes of love.
Let your mighty Hand be over all of us. Give us humble hearts and lead us to repentance. Heal our weaknesses of body, mind and spirit. And show us the way back to You, our First Love.
Change us now! Lead us to turn away from wicked deeds and Return to You.
Let us do away with false pretenses, vanity, greed and prestigious titles. Let us not think too highly of ourselves. Let us be blessed to be known as Your sons and daughters.
Let us throw away our pride, greed, unforgiveness and anger. They are of no value to you. Let us realize we are nothing without You, and every good thing we are or have is because of You. Let us allow you to direct our paths and our decisions. Your Way is so much better than our way.
We will never please you if we disregard Your rules of order. Let us not be wishy washy but steadfast and true. Let us aspire always to grow closer to You each day and love You more dearly.
Save Your Supreme Court. Govern Your leaders and Your People. Put a right heart into those who are our Leaders. Let them see You have Authority over all.
Let us surrender all we have to You. Have Your Way with us. Take our reins and lead us in every area of our lives. Protect and bless us and our families. Guide them to You.
Let this World shine again with Your Light.
Show us how to return to You. Revive us.
Let us not just pray for a revival but help us to live the revival.
You are greater than the ungodliness in this fallen world.
The darkness of this world will never overcome Your brilliant Light.
Now we must be candles in the night and lift others out of their darkness. Help us to lift their weary hearts, and give them eyes to see You are calling them: Come to Me and I will give you the true Peace. Let them see the Glory of the Living God.
You say: Call to Me and I will answer you. We are calling to You as a family. Show us the way to prepare the Way of the Lord. Let us not grow lazy in serving You.
Make our crooked paths straight. Let Your Light shine upon us. Wash us. Renew us. Revive us. Lead us. The time is now. Let us arise and shine in You.
Repentance without return is empty. Let us make real changes that reflect our repentance and return.
We continue to stand on You, our Rock and Refuge. We trust Your Faithfulness and Wait on You in hope and patience. Thank you, Jesus!!! The Name above all other Names. Your Name is Holy, Lord, and Great is Thy Faithfulness.

    2. Is this "The Return" to which you are referring?
"“The Return” will be buttressed by speeches from a slate of notable religious conservatives, including former Rep. Michele Bachman, Family Research Council leader Tony Perkins, and Mike Lindell, the founder of MyPillow, and has taken a decidedly political overtone in its messaging." ?

  26. I confess to Almighty God and to you my brothers and sisters that I have flubbed today’s devotion on yesterday.
Today’s Devotion reminds us …Your weakness is an opportunity to grow strong in awareness of My Almighty Presence (WHEW!). When your energy fails you, do not look inward and lament the lack you find there (WHEW!). Look to Me and My sufficiency (WHEW!); rejoice in My radiant riches that are abundantly available to help you (YEAH!)…
Yesterday, I allowed satan to work its anger in me, through me, and out from me. It knew exactly what bait to use. It knows I cannot rightly stand @ God when I am blamed for something I did not do, have credit taken away from me for good things I did do, and being criticized, beyond what my patience and tolerance can tolerate, for who I am and what I am not. I confess that I cannot have right standing with God when anger is concerned. I confess that I need and invite God’s Holy Spirit to handle anger for me. Please God, I want to feel nearer my God to Thee than I feel right here and right now. Take away from me, whatever is different from Thee. Yes, take it away from Me! Lord, I turn to You and Your Sufficiency. In Jesus’ Name I pray to receive and rejoice in Your radiant riches that are abundantly available to help me. I ask. I seek. I knock. I praise. I thank. I YIELD. Amen

    1. We all let our emotions get in the way of our service and our devotions. We are human beings, flawed and fragile. The strongest and most beautiful part of us is the Christ in us. And that's not going anywhere. He will always be with us to lift us back up when we fall. Just like we lifted up our own children up when they fell, or scolded when they did something bad, and then forgave them. God sees our efforts and knows our hearts of love for Him. He knows sometimes when we're tired and we've just been working for too many hours, we aren't shining His light the way we should. We get cranky and even let go of His Unchanging Hand. This is a brand new day, just packed to the brim with new possibilities to glorify Him, shine His light and make things right. I love you my dear sister. You are nothing but sweetness to my heart. Yesterday is gone. Let's all live in the present where He meets us.

It's because you care so deeply that you were hurt. We are here saying you are perfectly heard in prayer. Jesus came here because we could never be "good enough" with the laws and commandments. You brought your confession and laid it at the foot of the cross and now breathe deeply of the Holy Spirit's peace and love that never left you. Loving Hugs dear sister

  27. Up way too late and I just wanted to share these great verses from Psalm 72:
    17 His name shall endure forever;
His name shall continue as long as the sun.
    And men shall be blessed in Him;
All nations shall call Him blessed.
18 Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel,
    Who only does wondrous things!
19 And blessed be His glorious name forever!
And let the whole earth be filled with His glory.
    Amen and Amen.

We will continue to Bless His Holy Name and we will never forget His benefits.

  28. OverviewLyricsListen
I've had many tears and sorrows,
    I've had questions for tomorrow,
there's been times I didn't know right from wrong.
    But in every situation,
    God gave me blessed consolation,
that my trials come to only make me strong.
    Through it all,
    through it all,
I've learned to trust in Jesus,
I've learned to trust in God.
    Through it all,
    through it all,
I've learned to depend upon His Word.
I've been to lots of places,
I've seen a lot of faces,
there's been times I felt so all alone.
    But in my lonely hours,
    yes, those precious lonely hours,
Jesus lets me know that I was His own
    Through it all,
    through it all,
I've learned to trust in Jesus,
I've learned to trust in God.
    Through it all,
    through it all,
I've learned to depend upon His Word.
I thank God for the mountains,
and I thank Him for the valleys,
I thank Him for the storms He brought me through.
For if I'd never had a problem,
I wouldn't know God could solve them,
I'd never know what faith in God could do

  30. And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in distresses, for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong. (2 Corinthians 12:9-10). The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in Him, and I am helped; therefore my heart greatly rejoices, and with my song I will praise Him. (Psalm 28:7). Strength and honor are her clothing; she shall rejoice in time to come. (Proverbs 31:25).

Father, thank You for all that You teach me. You are my strength and refuge. I lean on You and need You always. Help me to keep You the center of my life and to always look to You in all things. Remove this worldly mentality from me and replace it with a spiritual mentality of You. I praise You Lord always. Thank You Jesus. In Jesus name, I pray, Amen.

Are you on YouTube or anywhere where I can hear your voice?
So much to give thanks for, dear Family. Reminding myself today what is in Matthew 5:13, 14. You are the salt of the earth; You are the light of the world. Let me be worthy of those words, Father and remember that I am a child of light. Thanking God for our lights shining!

Take comfort in the Light. My DH was in a lung cancer with lobe removal situation a few years ago. He went into surgery as a professed atheist. While he was in surgery, I felt pressured to double down on prayer, in that I was praying for two. Somewhere between then and now, he was changed.

    1. Thank you sweet Norah! I'm glad you enjoyed it and could relate. That gives God glory too. Here are the lyrics to One Gray Hair on a Black Coat.

Time’s moving on. I know it has to be
But I don’t feel that way inside of me
And now the proof is very plain to see
One gray hair on a black coat.

Lines on the face right in front of me.
But in my heart my inner child runs free
I always thought the saddest thing to see
One gray hair on a black coat

Like grains of sand inside an hourglass
Days come and go until they’re gone
But peace from way up high will always last
I’ll fill my heart and carry on.
I have no reason to feel sorry NO
I feel so young in every way
That speeding train just leaves some marks that show
I don’t regret them. They tell a story
of ups and downs that lead to God’s grace and glory
      ----------------------------------------------------------------

  40. This devotion is about leaning on God's strength in our weakness, and remembering all the times that He has brought us through our trials when we were weak and powerless. Well I just found out that a dear friend from my music family, John, a Christian, a father, a grandfather, a wonderful musician, singer and great person, has cancer everywhere in his body and has lost so much weight that his sister told my friend that he is getting close to death. He needs a miracle. Please join me in asking for that miracle.
Heavenly Father, You are so great and there is no limit to Your healing power and Your mercy. We come to you with faith and thanksgiving to ask you to take away John's cancer, every bit of it, every bad cell, Remove it from his body, Replace each cancer cell with healthy tissue, restore his organs to perfect function, increase his body mass, give him strength of body, mind and spirit. Let him see Your amazing power and also the power of sincere prayer. Strengthen him and give him hope for a future with his little grandson and family. Amaze the doctors and his loved ones with a miracle of healing for John because we know all things are possible through Jesus Christ. We believe all your promises; we trust in Your faithfulness and we wait on You together. Thank You Father for all this in the Name of Christ Jesus, our Risen Lord. Amen

  52. In the multitude of my anxieties within me, Your comforts delight my soul. (Psalm 94:19). This is the day the LORD has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. (118:24). Rejoice in the LORD always. Again, I will say, rejoice! (Philippians 4:4).

    1. Beautiful verses, dear Janet! I've been with my baby granddaughter and I have been comforted and blessed. We must rejoice even in the valley times because they test our faith.

I have a bone density test this afternoon. Good results would be great. Hubby is off blood thinners for a week for oral surgery, asking that his platelets will behave during this time. Praying for each of you & your concerns. May the goodness of our Lord continue to run after each of you in Jesus' name amen. 💕🙏🌈

  55. Today is one of those days when the gage on my energy tank is reading empty. It happens from time to time when I am unable to sleep (can't seem to switch off brain activity - It's not worry or concerns, just random thoughts.
So today is a day to "Relax in My everlasting arms.", and to "Go gently through this day, leaning on Me and enjoying My Presence".
Exodus 33:14 "The LORD replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest." Praying for all who need to rest in Him today.

    1. Peter~ sounds like this may be one of those days where He reminds us to "Be still and know that I am God". Psalm 46:10
      Peace, brother.

    2. Hope you got some rest, dear Peter. God provides our needs. I have often felt Him telling me to stop and rest. We can't serve Him when we are weary. He restores us when we surrender to sweet sleep.

  56. Hello JC followers -this brings me such comfort to read daily. I have had some anxious thoughts about a new opportunity that has been placed upon me in the form of new employment. I am willing to work tenaciously for the Lord but am now a senior and wanting to work part time-to have 3 days off in a row. May you Lord please put your continued favor upon me. I am so thankful for the personal relationship I have with you which is such a treasure. Thank you for your precious son’s gift of his sacrificial life as I want to do thy will as there will be adversities and spiritual warfare. Please give all of us a peace that surpasses all understanding.

    1. Put it all into God's able Hands, dear Katie. He wants you to succeed. Don't be anxious. Acknowledge Him as you approach your new job. He will guide you and supply all the words you need. Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world. You have a solid rock to stand on and He isn't going anywhere.

  57. Thank you, JC Prayer Warriors...my DH got another good report at the Oncologist's today! Thank you, God, for giving your only begotten Son to set us free. Praying for you, Dear Katie - I'll pray for that 4 day work week with 3 off in a row! It's available....
Woke up scratchy and thinking I couldn't/shouldn't go into a hospital with compromised people. However, God had other plans for me. I went, it was good (better than good), and together, we prevailed.
    Heading to bed....peaceful.
Peter, you are in my prayers, Brother. Praying for a renewed energy and 'letting go,' of all of that 'brain activity.' I know it all too well! Sleep sweet, Brother. God is on the Night Watch!
Thank you, Jeanne, Brie, Audra, for your specific prayers. They are priceless.
Tomorrow is another day to believe for the BEST!
