Jesus Calling: September 8

Accept each day exactly as it comes to you. By that, I mean not only the circumstances of your day but also the condition of your body. Your assignment is to trust Me absolutely, resting in My sovereignty and faithfulness.
ON some days, your circumstances and your physical condition feel out of balance: The demands on you seem far greater than your strength. Days like that present a choice between two alternatives--giving up or relying on Me. Even if you wrongly choose the first alternative, I will not reject you. You can turn to Me at any point, and I will help you crawl out of the mire of discouragement. I will infuse My strength into you moment by moment, giving you all that you need for this day. Trust Me, by relying on My empowering Presence.

Psalm 42:5
English Standard Version

Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you in turmoil within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
    my salvation

2 Corinthians 13:4
English Standard Version

For he was crucified in weakness, but lives by the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but in dealing with you we will live with him by the power of God.

Jeremiah 31:25
English Standard Version

For I will satisfy the weary soul, and every languishing soul I will replenish.

    1. Yes, as all have said, Thanks. I also agree that the original book is well done but found your blog after using my phone Bible app to read the scripture used as the basis for Jesus' "comments". Eventually, I searched for JC online and found your blog. I have used it daily for nearly 2 years and the posting community now using your site is quite remarkable. Your personal journey is now blessing many and providing prayer opportunity for those in need. Godspeed.

  4. We have the book, but my eyes are ageing and it is nice to be able to enlarge the font. I notice at the top that the original post was done 3 years ago. I've been following for over a year. It is still fresh as the posts come around again. It's great to have reinforcement for each day. God's word never goes stale.

  7. "On some days, your circumstances and your physical condition feel out of balance..." As I write this at 230 a.m., I think of the irony! As we age, the night is often interrupted by ailments or concerns. Further in the JC reading today, the choice is "giving up or relying on God." Thankfully, I'm at the point in my faith that "giving up" is actually leading me to rely on Him. I am often powerless in my circumstances (ex. health, my kids' choices, government policies, etc., ad nauseum) thus my faith now recognizes my need to seek His wisdom and grace. "In Christ, all things are possible." Peace. In Him. Amen.

    4. Amen Madfox!! I feel when I am facing trials and challenges I seek Jesus above all to lead me through. Even today when I read the words: The demands on you seem far greater than your strength, I felt it described my day perfectly. Cooking for a big family and having more family coming for dinner and my grandson just wanted to blow bubbles. Well I chose to be a Mary and spent a good hour blowing bubbles. And prayed I would get the place tidy and the food prepared! Thank God, I see the light at the end of the tunnel and I'm almost done. We will have a yummy dinner thank God! Will be busy till my head hits the pillow but I’m keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

  9. I am still learning to rely on Him. Sometimes I feel ashamed when I turn to Him for trivial matters. Then I remember He is of an Infinite nature. Surely He has time to handle every detail of His creation and still help me with the small frustrations. It is such a wonderful feeling to know I have a constant companion in Jesus. So much better than trying to challenges alone through my own self will. Please continue to pray for me and my family. The latest worry on my mind is my 14 year old son. He has fair skin and terrible acne. I get confused by all the product advertisements and information on the internet. We have established a daily regimen of treatment and been to a dermatologist but the problem persists. Thank you for your prayers. I have seen miracles happen through prayer. My faith is growing stronger every day. I am learning to practice acceptance and asking God to help me understand His will for me. God bless you all. Thank you for this site.

  17. Dear Father, Thank You for being the Supreme Ruler who immanently and personally rules over all the affairs of my life and that of the universe. As Your child, I rest in Your sovereignty as well as a cause of worship. Being infinitely elevated above the highest creature in authority, nature, and being, You are the Most High Lord of heaven and earth and all creation. Thank You for seeing, knowing and caring all about me. Thank You Lord for Your grace that is sufficient! I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

The sovereignty and faithfulness of God can be defined as the exercise of ‘His supremacy, His infinite rule, His authority and power’. Knowing that He is completely sovereign over all of life can only give us comfort and peace when we also understand the totality of His nature, His attributes and how they work together to make Him who He is. Every human being exist for a purpose. God has a purpose for everyone, a particular set of works He has ordained for each of us (Eph. 2:10). He weighs our motives, intents, and purposes. He alone has all the facts and He alone is able to judge the purity of our motives and the reasons for our plans (1 Cor. 4:4-5). He tells us that if we recognize His sovereignty, trust in His goodness, surrender and trust our plans and lives into His care, He will protect and lead our steps and establish our plans to bring them about not per our will, but in accord with His purposes and righteousness. Paul says in Philippians 1:6: “I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.” (Compare also Eph. 1:11-12.). So, it doesn’t matter what circumstance or physical condition we find ourselves in, we must accept each day as He gave and allow Him to infuse His strength in us moment by moment, while trusting Him.

Dear Father, We trust You by daily relying on Your empowering Presence that is always with us. May our trust in You continue to grow as we respond to You, our unshakable refuge in trouble, our undying river of life and our unbeatable ruler over all, in Jesus’ name! Amen.

    Blessings and Peace.

The JC devotional this morning reminded me again that to be self-conscious can be a detriment to my walk, for to stay in this state of mind is to squeeze the Holy Spirit out of my day to day walk of trust. 2. Good one Jan! In Christ only are we made complete. We are empowered when we are weary! Able to climb a high mountain when there is no more gas left in our tanks. If we concentrate on the needs of others and strive to be selfless instead of selfish, we can share the Christ in us, the hope of glory. We can change lost and tired hearts grow closer to Him. I was with my dear Sister in law today who has Alzheimer’s. I stopped my cooking to walk down to the beach with her and I talked about my faith and listened to her tell me she was blessed and she loved the ocean because of the peace it brought her. I agreed it is a place of peace and comfort where we feel closer to God as we listen to the waves and see His power and feel the cool breeze on our face. We had a nice time watching a couple throw a ball back and forth. It was a sweet time and after we went back to eat dinner, God gave us the perfect gift of a beautiful sunset! Such a faithful good Father!

Psalm 42: 5 teaches me  Hope in God; for I shall again praise Him, my salvation! Would You blow up my neon colored floaties with Hope in You, a good God, and put them on my arms so they always help me carry my belief in you bravely and keep me afloat in this ocean of life? Each time I run into the sea of circumstance wearing my hope floaties, would you keep my head high knowing all is well and how dearly God loves me because my floaties are filled with His Hope and His Love and are keeping me afloat by relying solely on His empowering Presence?   I ask. I pray. I thank You in Jesus' Name. Amen.

    1. As God's Holy Spirit often does, today I saw a little child wearing floaties in a pool! I could hardly keep from staring at the little face which was buoyed above the water because of the fully inflated floaties. That little face looked so peaceful, so serene, so safe, so confident, so beaming with joy, like God blew up his little floaties full with Faith, Hope and Love. When he got out of the pool, he kept his floaties on. Because I pray to have that peace, serenity, safety, be so confident in God I beam with joy, I am going to buy myself a pair of floaties in the morning! When you see an oldie but goodie on the beach with floaties on, say Hi Brie, because that will be me!

  25. THOUGHTS ON INTIMACY WITH OUR LORD

Yesterday I shared thoughts on where I am feeling led in being with you in this blessed blogspot (Always with thanks to you, Chris). My posts come out of my devotional time and I share with you my experiences to which you respond with loving replies enhancing my blessing. Our readings each and every day in the JC book are a call of our loving Lord to enter into a relationship of deep intimacy with the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. We all know that but how might we best do that? Some of you clearly are having that experience, some may desire more guidance in the process (my personal opinion is that the Church is good at telling us we need to do this but less helpful in showing how to do this). For you these thoughts are shared. Yesterday, Brie replied by sharing her own experience of quiet time. I invite others of you to do likewise for in no way or form are my thoughts all conclusive. It is about family and isn't that what we have found here?

Initial thought for today, in order to experience intimacy with God (or any other relationship), we must be intentional about seeking it. For me, that is looking forward to it, planning for it, anticipating it and prioritizing it. Daniel P. Horan recently published a book entitled, 'Dating God' (which is about developing intimacy with God according to the ways of St Francis). The title alone says a mouthful. For in the initial stages of a developing love relationship, be it romantic or friendship, we establish times when we can be together for coffee, for lunch, to take a walk, etc. Because of the exuberance we are feeling for this budding relationship, when a time is set to be together, we let nothing interfere with it. We must capture that feeling within our soul about being with our Lord. Easier said than done but over time, my experience is that this grew on me and has consumed my soul.

For me, the Lord and I have a 'date' first thing in the AM. So as to be uninterrupted (as any two people would want to be in their time together), I chose a time in which there is the least possibility of that happening. I am a morning person who looks forward to waking up (my wife who enjoys her sleep once said at my early rising, 'you are a sick man.' LOL). I awake with the intention of being with our Lord. I do not let anything sidetrack my focus. I don't turn on the TV or check my emails, I don't check the scores of my favorite teams the night before, I avoid anything that might cause my mind to wander to any other thought other than my Lord who awaits me. All of this should be true with any relationship, but it is especially true in my relationship with our Lord. What I shared here is not a 'how to' for everyone is different; what I meant to show is how I am intentional in moving into His loving presence. Maybe others of you might share how you intentionally meet Jesus. For those of you who seek to enter into greater intimacy with God, take what you hear and find your own way. No two dating relationships are the same.

Be blessed this day in your oneness with the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, my JC family! With love, Bob

    2. Merci mon ami for posting about your intimacy with Our Lord.
I have to admit that I'm struggling with it these days. I don't spend as much time in His Word as I used to. I still do it everyday but I feel like I don't go as deep as I could/should. I usually read devotions and verses of the day in the morning and then I spend time reading a chapter of the Bible later in the afternoon after lunch if I can. I also like to pray and be still, sitting on the floor or on my knees, listening to worship soaking music (this help a lot to make me feel His peace and comforting presence).
Before I go to bed I often ask the Holy Spirit to wake me up between 4 and 7 so I can make sure I start my day in prayers and His word. It always works but sometimes I'm so tired that I say "Sorry Lord I'm going back to sleep" and then I feel guilty about it LOL.
I know I need to be more intentional about seeking Him and His ways in all I do.
      God bless you

    4. Dear Bob! Thanks for your inspiring words. I too make time in the morning to thank the Lord for my new day and my blessings. He is with me always but upon waking up I thank and praise Him and read His Word. Often spill my heart out. During the day I pray often but I must admit I pray for His help a lot because I need Him so much. I need His closeness and our alone time more than anything else in my day. I felt bad today because I was so busy with my family I couldn’t finish praying for everyone in my prayer list. But God knows that. He is the only one who understands me and loves me just as I am. He is right there with me at all times encouraging me. You made me think about the sweetness of planning to have coffee with Him at a certain hour. We must nurture our relationship with Him in a real way because He is the Lover of our souls.

    6. Bob,great explanation of your daily experience in being alone with the Lord. Mine similarly is as soon as I'm awake. This 'set aside' time is as you say a bit like a 'date', with the thrill of anticipation of meeting my Beloved. Years ago He gave me a picture of a bench shaped rock overlooking a picturesque view site, valleys and mountains in the distance, as I looked at the rock He said "Come, sit with Me awhile". The JC blog forms part of that ,so does Scripture reading, prayer and just simply talking things over with Him and silence from me. Importantly the time of silence enables me to receive impressions and instructions from Him. It is this developing relationship that is LIFE, vibrant, active, interactive, deeply satisfying. Without my relationship with my Lord Jesus, Saviour, Lord of my life, I'd be as alive as dry dust. It is His deep that calls into my deep.

    8. Thanks Peter, All very true. Life would not be full of joy and peace without our Lord and Savior. Our relationship is the most important one in my life. The morning is my time with the Lord too but I sure do try to find times during my day to reconnect and rest in Him. I speak to Him often and I know He understands what is going on with me and how I feel. Such a blessed assurance to know that He is our God and best friend.

  30. I just wanted to say thank you to those of you that were praying for the birthday get together yesterday where there have been divisions within our family as to the protocols of keeping safe during this pandemic time. It turned out to be the best time we have had together in years. One gift for my husband was a book called “ Words from a Grandfather” . As it was passed around ( without using gloves) and it came to me, I felt led to start asking some of the questions it had in it to the group. Like “Tell us what Your favourite thing to do with your father was when you were growing up”. .. and we all learned some new things. My husband said it was one of the nicest birthdays he had ever had. All to say God provided a special day beyond my imagination. Thank you Lord!

  35. I love the verse Psalm 42:5 Its like a wake up call that reminds us not to feel overwhelmed by our circumstances ....today while going about in the market I heard some christian songs being played and they reminded me of the songs played during my father's funeral .My tears started rolling and then I remembered that Dad is in heaven with his Father, no more pain, this verse gives me hope because one day we will be reunited! We have the same assurance in our lives today. We may face all kinds of things in our lives but with God on our side we can overcome them all. Not only can we overcome but we can live with the joy and peace of God in our hearts because we have the hope afforded by the power of the Holy Spirit. As Paul said on another occasion; we can do all things through Jesus Christ who gives us strength. He is our rock, our refuge, our water in the time of drought and our oasis in the midst of the desert. Our God is faithful and directs us with his love and his song.

  38. JC: "The demands on you seem far greater than your strength." As the years roll by in using this blog as a daily devo, it is bewildering how the passage, like scripture, grows to meet the changes in my life. I've been here nearly every day, reading old and new posts and the message for the day... and am often shaking my head how the message for the day resonates with my current circumstances.

The nature of multiple myeloma is the maintenance drugs and the stem cell transplant produce significant fatigue. I've never slept much and been a high energy person, now, I can sleep many hours day or night and yearn for more energy. However my walk with God has never been closer. I want to get back to work but at present that is proving to be challenging. The balance of taking sufficient maintenance therapy to continue to kill cancer cells is offset by the side effects' impact on one's "quality of life." It is still too early to make any significant changes as clinical data suggests my regimen for 3 years at a minimum. With a weekly IV and a daily pill, I've taken the approach and made it into weeks... so 12 down and 144 to go!

I will see the Emory folks next week for a 6 month check-up since the transplant (wow, time flies!). However since I see my local oncologist each week for chemo and immunotherapy, I don't expect any surprises. I continue to be in remission and am at the top of the class in my physical response. My prayer request is that same report is achieved with Emory next week. It will be another week before I get a response from their labwork.
Finishing with the closing JC words today: "I will infuse My strength into you moment by moment, giving you all that you need for this day. Trust Me, by relying on My empowering Presence." Amen. Godspeed JC blog friends.

  40. “The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands. And He is not served by human hands, as if He needed anything, because He Himself gives all men life and breath and everything else. From one man He made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and He determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. God did this so that men would seek Him and perhaps reach out for Him and find Him though He is not far from each of us. For in Him we live and move and have our being…” (Acts 17: 24-28).

Loving Father, Thank You for a this day and thank You for mercy granted brand new to me this morning. Please help me to reflect the love, goodness, grace and glory of Christ in this broken world. May I find true rest in Your sovereign nature that comes when I fully understand there is no boundary to Your reach. Consequences of things both good and bad follows the choices I make, but nothing I ever do will supersede Your sovereignty. You have chosen to give me free will so that I can choose to worship You, so may the peace of knowing and worshipping You filled me till it overflows. I thank You for Your PEACE, which transcends all understanding, to guard my heart and my mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.

This Peace that we need only comes when we rest in God's goodness and provision. Our God is Sovereign and His Sovereignty has everything to do with His power as well as His perfect timing. For all who have placed their faith in Jesus, navigating the difficult times in life is made easier knowing that our Sovereign God is still in control and this provides us a place of peace and rest.

“I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say, ‘My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.’ From the east I summon a bird of prey; from a far-off land, a man to fulfill my purpose. What I have said, that I will bring about; what I have planned, that I will do” (Isaiah 46:10-11).

“There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the Lord” (Proverbs 21:30).

  41. What a lovely morning, waking and reading; remembering our past prayers, seeing new requests and knowing that we are still a tightly-knit Jesus Calling Family. With the new season approaching is staying dark longer and I was able to enjoy over an hour of quiet, prayer and reading earlier.
So good to hear of your progress, MadFox! CHANGE: we are all going through it. My Best Man goes in two weeks from today for a Count Check....he is doing well, other than some stomach issues (doesn't feel bad - just something he's dealing with).
I am in the "thick" of CHANGE, deciding to fully retire or work part time after the 11/2 election. Working on our budget, wondering how God will choose to guide me and how I will respond. All good - just, well, you know: CHANGE! I'm often shocked that it isn't a 4 letter work. HA HA....
As I see the world around me - hear the prayers for so many (please pray for my sister who is getting over Shingles), watch our Country go through things I never imagined I'd see in this lifetime, I am reminded (thank you, Jesus Calling and Family sharing!), that it's nothing new to our Lord. HE is the same today, tomorrow, forever. Always encouraged to give it all to Him, who cares for me (us).
" I will infuse My strength into you moment by moment, giving you all that you need for this day. Trust Me, by relying on My empowering Presence." I will read this over and over today. What a blessing to have the 'history' of our posts. Our Almighty God has gotten each of us through so many events - and will continue to.
Blessings, Prayers and Love to this wonderful family of believers!

I would like to ask for prayers for my younger son (16). He told me yesterday that he sometimes questions his faith. He said he has said the salvation prayer but sometimes wonders “if it worked.” He said he gets so confused when he thinks about eternal life and what it means. He quickly added that he does not want to burn in hell but just questions a lot of things. Please pray for him and for wisdom for me to answer appropriately.

    1. It's not wrong to question your faith.
The best way to affirm your faith is to follow the scriptures.
Our salvation depends solely on the person and work of Jesus Christ. As we continue to trust in him, we will experience the power of the Holy Spirit at work in our lives to make us more like Jesus. When we see this happening, our assurance that we truly are saved; one of God's children, grows.
(Romans 10:9, Message Version): Say the welcoming word to God—“Jesus is my Master”—embracing, body and soul, God's work of doing in us what he did in raising Jesus from the dead. That's it. You're not “doing” anything; you're simply calling out to God, TRUSTING HIM TO DO IT FOR YOU. That's salvation.”
(Romans 10:9 Amplified Bible): because if you acknowledge and confess with your mouth ( speak it out loud to someone) that Jesus is Lord [recognizing His power, authority, and majesty as God], and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

  49. “giving up or relying on Me. Even if you wrongly choose the first alternative, I will not reject you.”This statement is SO HARD to grasp when you have experienced a lot of rejection from people who were supposed to love you. I have struggled with depression ever since I was a teenager some of it influenced by others and some of it I brought on myself. I have so many undone relationships with family that I have tried to make amends with but they never accepted responsibility for their actions towards me. Because of suffering that emotional trauma it’s hard to believe that God stays even when rejection seems so overwhelming. Just when I think I have victory in Jesus I get sucker punched in my thoughts and I feel and become unraveled at all ends. Unconditional love is rare among humans but God never changes. If only my brain would get that. It’s a very beautiful morning where I am the air is crispy and the breeze is like Fall. Father please help me to give myself permission to experience feelings help me to know they are valid regardless of others. My perspective is my truth no matter how others view me. Set my feet on the Rock that is higher than me. Grant me the Serenity to ACCEPT the things I cannot change the COURAGE to change the things I can and the WISDOM to KNOW the difference. In Jesus Name Amen 🙏♥️

    1. Dear Anonymous-

Continue relying on God. Verbally tell Satan to leave you alone and leave your thoughts alone. Praying that you will feel God’s love and grace.

    2. Joining with my sister SC’s prayer that you will acknowledge Jesus in your thoughts and daily walk. The devil will flee when Jesus is reigning in your heart and mind. True joy is only found in Him. The fact that you are grateful for this beautiful day shows you live in gratitude, trust, and praise to the Most High.

    3. Thank-you both for the understanding and encouragement ♥️The devil is a liar!! Sometimes that’s ALL that is needed when someone feels like they are being thrown into the throes of discouragement. 🙏

  50. Sharing a prayer from D. Jeremiah morning devotions.

Dear Father, increase my faith. Remind me that Your authority is unchanging. Your Word is unerring. Your goodness is unending. Remind me of the blessings You have bestowed, the prayers You have answered, and the miracles You provided. And remind me that faith is a logical choice to trust an unfailing God who knows more than I do and understands things I do not. Lord, I trust in You with all my heart. I will not lean on my own understanding. I will acknowledge You and trust You to lead me in the ways I should go. Amen.

  54. Just spoke to my twin sister. Her blood pressure has been very high all day. She’s wearing a heart monitor for one more week. Her heart beat and rhythm are abnormal. Trusting in God’s healing power and faithfulness to make all things right again.
    Thank You Jesus.

  55. Heavenly Father, thank You and bless Your holy name! Thank You Jesus 😊. Lord, I woke up even earlier than usual this morning and I'm praying for Norma, the lady I take care of. She has been in a lot of pain for awhile now and she has been praying to You for Your help. Please strengthen her and heal her Lord. You, and only You, have the power to do it. I trust in You and Your healing power Lord. Please let her continue shining her light to others in the world for You. And then I noticed a text on my phone from my sister's ex saying that my sister has been arrested. Lord, please give her strength and comfort and thank You for keeping her safe. I may not know what is going on but You always know. I have faith in You Lord. Please let all these things work out for good and Your glory Lord. In Jesus name, I pray, Amen 🙏.

  56. "He will swallow up death forever. The sovereign LORD will wipe away the tears from all faces; He will remove His people's disgrace from all the earth. The LORD has spoken. In that day they will say, 'Surely this is our God, we trusted in Him and He saved us. This is the LORD, we trusted in Him; let us rejoice and be glad in His salvation.'" (Isaiah 25:8-9). Ah, sovereign LORD, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for You. (Jeremiah 32:17). "And looking at them Jesus said to them, 'With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.'" (Matthew 19:26). "But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God." (Acts 5:39).
