Jesus Calling: January 2

Relax in My Healing Presence. As you spend time with Me, your thoughts tend to jump ahead to today's plans and problems. Bring your mind back to Me for refreshment and renewal. Let the Light of My Presence soak into you, as you focus your thoughts on Me. Thus I equip you to face whatever the day brings. This sacrifice of time pleases Me and strengthens you. Do not skimp on our time together. Resist the clamor of tasks waiting to be done. You have chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from you.
Psalm 105:4
English Standard Version
Seek the Lord and his strength;
    seek his presence continually!

Luke 10:39-42
English Standard Version
39 And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching. 40 But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” 41 But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, 42 but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”

My Prayer
Lord, thank you for a new day. I start this day with You first, not the newspaper, not the morning TV, but instead I begin this day with You. I want to show You and me that You are my priority. Help me to reside in this moment, learn from You and Your words. Hold me firm in You. Some days may not be as lengthy as others, but in each day, keep me centered on You. And then as I walk forth, keep me close to Your Presence throughout my day.

  2. After the gospels invite us to witness Jesus' birth, they then fast forward us to the Jordan River where the details of His mission begin to be played out. His mission begins, as all of ours does, with baptism. As the gospel of John tells the story, it starts with the role of John (the Baptist). The people's attention must be brought back to God, so God's plan is for someone to "prepare the way of the Lord". That is John's calling. As he begins, the religious experts come to ask, "Who are you?" (John was not fitting the parameters that the religious leaders had established for what he was doing.) John knew who he was, he was "the voice of one crying in the wilderness, prepare the way of the Lord." Our reading today stresses the need for a time to be alone with our Lord. One purpose of this time is so we can know who we are. Those who like to control people, even sometimes through the church, want everyone to conform to their parameters for life. The purpose of this alone time that we are admonished not to skimp on is to allow Jesus to define us so we may truly know who we are. Without this time, we become vulnerable to the definitions of the world. John was clearly anchored in God thus he knew his role in even the face of opposition. In these moments of solitude, we set our anchor in His truth so we may proceed even in the face of opposition. It is so good to be here.

    8. Jesus mission began with His baptism. Our mission begins the moment we are saved. Jesus as the the Savior didn't need to be saved, we do. My first mission when aged 8 was to tell everyone I knew including our street neighbours, baptism by full immersion, came later. Similarly our granddaughter got saved also aged 8, early last year. She wanted to get baptized immediately. Her church however, asked her and her parents to wait a while. From the day she got saved her mission started. She told everyone, she witnessed at school, to her friends, her teachers. She beamed the love of God. Not without some tears over unkind comments though. Eventually the church, seeing her witness, agreed for her to be baptized. We as doting grandparents watched her baptizm in November on Zoom. The moment we are saved the love of God enters our hearts and our mission begins. My wife was filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke in tongues from the moment she was saved. That's when her mission began. She invited her teen-age friends to church, several of them got saved at that time too. She also was baptized by full immersion but sometime later. Experience informs us that our mission starts the moment we get saved, that is when the love of God enters and we become one with Him.

  3. Today's reading reminds me of a couple of verses given to me,years ago, proverbs 23:23 says " Buy the Truth and sell it not, also wisdom instruction and understanding " as I thought about this scripture, I asked the Lord how do I buy the truth,His answer was with Time. The second one is psalms 36:9 for with thee is the fountain of Life: in thy LIGHT shall we see LIGHT. We as believers must spend our Time in God's Word. Many people try to live the Life without the Truth, some even try without the Way,But He said of Himself I am The Way,The Truth and The Life ,in that order ! You can't live the life without the Truth you can't live the Truth without the Way.We Must spend Time in His Word because He is His Word ! The Word became Flesh and dwelt among us.!

    1. So true, aren't we all so consumed with living life, DOING instead of BEING? Precious time, especially to improve our relationship to God is not only the greatest gift for us from God, but one I want to give to Him. Thank you Lord for freeing up my tendencies to focus on a'to do' list by replacing it with the desire 'to be' with you. It'll all get done, and probably better, when my priorities shift. Thank you!

    This morning I declare:
It's a new decade, it's a new day. A fresh anointing is flowing our way. It's a decade of power and prosperity and I declare, the devil's time is up, no longer can he bother us
because the Creator of the universe, He is our father!

where debts are cancelled, health restored, jobs are locating you, families are united, the poor become rich, sorrow is replaced with joy and happiness, peace and rest take over fear and your children and grandchildren walk in victory!
    It's a new decade!

All that we need is resting in His hands.
All that was stolen is returned to us a hundred fold.
Lets cling to His hand and to every promise, take a hold.
" You have chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from you"!
    It's a new decade!

  7. Good morning family! I wanted to share a couple of things with my friends here...

First, I have been completely nicotine free for 3 weeks. Might not seem like a big deal to some of you, but to anyone who has smoked for any period of time, we know how hard it can be. Thanks be to God for His strength and the desire He placed on my heart to stay stopped.

Second, today I celebrate 20 years of being clean and sober. I would’ve never thought 2 months was possible when I started this, let alone 2 decades. The Lord is good! Praise God for doing in my heart what I could not do for myself. Thank you that I am able to live each day with the knowledge that You love and take care of Your children.

Thank God for new mercies every morning. I have an opportunity today to again strive to be Christlike in all that I do. My desire to serve You and others is first in my mind. For this, I thank Jesus, for He has placed that desire in my heart. All praise, honor, and glory go to Him, for He alone is worthy.

I am grateful for a new day, month, year, and decade in which I can seek and serve the Lord with my whole heart. I am grateful that I live in a free country that allows me to worship as I see fit. I am grateful to all of my family and friends who support me each day, for those who pray with and for me, and for all of my Christian family that seeks to know Him better.

Again, a heartfelt thanks to all for my brothers and sisters here. For your prayers. For your encouragement. For your understanding. For your support. For the agape love, which Christ asks us to love our neighbors with, that has been shown to me by those who share here.

My God keep all of us in the palm of His mighty right hand as we journey with Him into this new year. May His peace and healing be with all of us each day. May our time alone with Him be rewarded by the presence of the Spirit. And, may we continue to be encouraged by each other to seek Him first for ALL of our needs.

God bless you my brothers and sisters in Christ. I love and am thankful for each of you!

    Blessings and peace to you.

    LIVING AT PEACE
✝️ I AM leaving you with a gift of My PEACE!  My Peace of mind and My peace of heart. And the peace I give is strong, stable, heavenly peace, unlike the fragile so-called-peace that the world gives. So be peaceful, brave, and steadfast.

    2. So well said, Janet, thanking God for the people in and the ones either kept at a distance or removed. It always amazes me how He does this, looking out for us this way. I have to say I smiled when you said, "even when I didn't pass" regarding tests because I too had some tests that I did NOT do well on, lol, but learned from. At the tail-end of last year, I've noticed and learned that if I stay in constant communication with our Father throughout my day, almost like talking with a bff, of which He is(!), how much better my day goes. I stay at peace better, I feel His assurance and love/comfort more...not that it wasn't there before but it's me keeping that dialogue going. I look forward to His lessons which won't always be fun, I know, but they will help me grow in Christ-like reactions, hopefully. And I say, Amen, along with Brie, thanking you and Jesus for your words today! Have a blessed 2nd day of the year everyone!
He is always the reason for EVERY season!

Much love, my dear sisters and brothers.. Our peace and joy come from knowing God’s promises are true. And we are indeed well taken care of in Him. And loved by Him and each other.

  16. Loving Father, This is another day of thanksgiving, a day reminding me that You are still on the throne of mercy and grace. Thank You for promising to never leave me, but equipping me to face whatever this day brings. Thank You for seeing my potential and calling me to live a life that is bold and courageous. Help me to remain steadfast, and not grow weary, but instead, always take steps forward into the promises and plans that You have for me through Christ Jesus.

"Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."(Phil 1:6).

As an on going project in the hand of the our Loving Almighty Father, may we be reminded that the Architect, Designer and Builder of our lives, is still at work in and through us. We are a divine project that cannot be abandoned. He knows what must be, where and how it will be achieved to His glory in our lives. May we keep our eyes upon Him, and look up to the day of His manifestation and the glory that will radiate from us. May we never dwindle from our God given agenda, but keep thanking and praising the God of all ages.

May you spend time with the your Father today, relax in His healing Presence and enjoy a blessed, peaceful and thankful day in the secret place of the most High!

  17. Thank you, everyone, for your grace, encouragement, and even challenge that you post here. I ponder these things deeply and remember you in my prayers. I am excited to see what God will do in these coming days.

I keep going back to these few lines from Sarah today:

“I equip you to face whatever the day brings. This sacrifice of time pleases Me and strengthens you. Do not skimp on our time together. Resist the clamor of tasks waiting to be done. You have chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from you.”

May we find ourselves lavishly seeking and spending time with our Papa, Abba, Savior, Redeemer, Lord, Healer, and friend.

  19. Blessings Dear JC Family. Amen, GTT - I am so glad that I took time this morning just as Sarah suggested. We had 3 of our Grands over (the 2 boys are autistic) and though I was a little nervous, I missed them and was encouraged by their Dad. They were with his ex-wife this week. So, over they came and my Granddaughter and I made brownies and then ground beef for nachos. I had all of the 'fixings.' I realized a little while after they were here that I didn't have a sense of taste or smell. My second son got sick about 4 days ago and had been over but once he got a temp, he didn't come back. He called to say that he was finally feeling like himself again except he had no taste or smell. One thing led to another and my oldest son (dad of the 3 with us) was very upset and their mom came to get them.
Please pray with me that everyone is fine and exempt from this virus. We've been told to give it 4-5 days and then consider getting tested.
Had I not had the time in the Word this morning that I did, it would have been a much bigger deal. I got to celebrate with Dave D. again and I loved JJ's quote on Gratitude and shared it with several people. Loved MadFox's BYMB and Suzanne's FROG, which reminded me of my dear sister who shared that with me several years ago. She gave me a little frog that sits on my windowsill above my computer and I am constantly reminded.
My hubby and I prayed together before the Grands came and we had a nice time until the very end, when the youngest boy had a melt down. We all handled it well, though and they are back with their mom.
I am going to keep that attitude of gratitude in the forefront of my mind. I am trusting and leaning on His everlasting arms and praying that my family, which is already a bit divided doesn't let this possibility of COVID disrupt our family, even more.
Jeanne, Janet, Brie, Maplewood, SassyMom, LQA, Bob and all the rest of your dear hearts, you are all in my prayers as everyone on this page and the Payton Family for providing it. Here I go again listing names knowing that I'm surely leaving someone out. I trust you know that it isn't intentional and that as I read, I pray for you, by name. The best part is that our loving Father knows every hair on our head and our Lord and Savior has gone before us.
Blessings on this 2nd day of the New Year!

  26. Yes, someone is praying, Butterfly love, for you! For healing, and strength and peace. I am reminded of Corrie ten Boom’s belief that no prayer is ever lost or wasted. God is faithful to the prayers offered to Him and they continue to be filled with His power. She was a simple woman who saved many Jews during WW2 and as a result was put in a Nazi prison camp, where her sister died. In one of her books she talked about having a heart for homeless people as a young girl, and having her specific prayers answered many years later. God doesn’t forget. All of the prayers offered here have staying power, His power!

Praying that they are seeing God’s faithfulness. God bless you and your family in all things.

  27. Happy New Year fam! I haven’t been able to comment for a while due to technical problems. I pray you are all well!
I’ve been laid up in a cast with a torn quad tendon since 12/22…it’s frustrating especially since I’m a very active person. I’m thankful though for all the help I was blessed with rescuing me from the mountain and the following surgery.
I’m trying to figure out what God is trying to teach me with all this, and I have LOTS of time to pray and meditate; so far the answer is not clear.
Please pray for my wife/nurse Jill who has been wonderful caring for me and that’s not easy; and for expeditious healing and recovery, and that my cast will come off for good on Thursday.
Father God thank you for reminding me to stay focused on you, to abide in you and your presence, as that is where I find my peace and the answers to my questions. Help me to remain strong and courageous during adversity, knowing that your power is made perfect in our weakness and that you will not leave me or forsake me, and in ALL things you work for the good for those who love you and are called according to your purpose. Amen. Blessings and thankfulness familyπŸ™

A good wife is worth more than rubies (Proverbs 31:10). While you're trying to figure out what God is trying to teach you, I commend to you James 1. In the circumstances it's a good chapter to read, meditate on, research on line, or via a good Bible commentary. Relax, enjoy His companionship, on each day's walk with Him.

    Hymn: Another Year Is Dawning
    Another year is dawning!
    Dear Father, let it be,
    in working or in waiting,
    another year with thee;
    another year of leaning
    upon thy loving breast,
    another year of trusting,
    of quiet, happy rest.

    Another year of mercies,
    of faithfulness and grace;
    another year of gladness
    in the shining of thy face;
    another year of progress,
    another year of praise,
    another year of proving
    thy presence all the days.

    Another year of service,
    of witness for thy love;
    another year of training
    for holier work above.
    Another year is dawning!
    Dear Father, let it be
on earth, or else in heaven,
    another year for thee.

Just a closer walk with Thee,
Grant it, Jesus, is my plea.
      Daily walking close to Thee,
Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.

I am weak, but Thou art strong
Jesus, keep me from all wrong.
      I'll be satisfied as long
As I walk let me walk close to Thee

In this world of toil and snares,
If I falter, Lord, who cares?
Who but Thee my burden shares?
None but Thee, oh Lord, none but Thee.

      From Life Study Fellowship:
      TIME...
Time is the coin of our life.
It is the only coin we have to spend.
Only we can determine how our life coin is spent.
Being careful with our time coin, means we
Do NOT let others spend it for us. Instead, we spend it for ourselves when we:
Spend time working; work is the price of success.
Spend time thinking; thoughts are a source of power.
Spend time playing; playing is a secret of youth.
Spend time reading; reading is a road to discovery.
Spend time praying; praying is a key to eternity.
Spend time being friendly; friendliness is a road to happiness.
Spend time dreaming; dreams are a highway to stars.
Spend time loving and being loved; love is a way to show The True Nature of God.
