Jesus Calling: November 17

There is NO CONDEMNATION for those who are in Me. The law of the Spirit of Life has set you free from the law of sin and death. Not many Christians know how to live in this radical freedom, which is their birthright. I died to set you free; live freely in Me!
To walk along the path of freedom, you must keep your mind firmly fixed on Me. Many voices proclaim: "This is the way for you to go," but only My voice tells you the true way. If you follow the way of the world with all its glitter and glamour, you will descend deeper and deeper into an abyss. Christian voices also can lead you astray: "Do this!" "Don't do that!" "Pray this way!" "Don't pray that way!" If you listen to all those voices, you will become increasingly confused.
Be content to be a simple sheep, listening for My voice and following Me. I will lead you into restful green pastures and guide you along paths of righteousness.
Romans 8:1-2
English Standard Version
8 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.

Isaiah 30:21
English Standard Version
And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.

John 10:27
English Standard Version
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

Psalm 23:1-3
English Standard Version
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters
He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness
for his name's sake.

    1. You are most welcome. I originally did it primarily for myself because the book just has a scripture reference and I wanted to be able to have the entire scripture in front of me while I was reading the text. And then at times I write out a prayer as kind of a response and to say, Lord, you’ve given me these words, now what am I gonna do with it. But I’m glad it’s helpful to you as well.

  4. Its amazing how God speaks me through the Jesus Calling devotional of that day. It never fails!

Lord, I just pray your strength throughout this day to walk as the new creation that I am in Christ Jesus & to maintain a positive outlook no matter my circumstances. I ask you to continually realign my focus onto you & your promises whenever I begin to judge myself or others or even the situations i am faced with by the world's standards & false truths. If I start to believe in the lies of the enemy & the hurtful things he may try to whisper in my ear today, I ask you to quickly "spirit-check" me , to return my gaze to the cross, & to filter whatever worries & thoughts may be holding me back at that time from what you are trying to show me, through the power of that cross. Show me how to forgive myself & those around me when I am unable to in own strength. Jesus I plea your blood over any & all physical, mental & spiritual sickness in my life & those around me. I thank you for your precious blood & this new life youve given me. I thank you for your spirit of wisdom & revelation, and your guidance through my eyes youve now opened. Thank you for your endless love & mercy, and that you died for me while I was still surrounded by so much darkness & saved me from myself. Praise you sweet Jesus & all that you have done for me. And I just pray this over myself & my family & loved ones, over my enemies & those who have hurt me, and I pray this for anyone comes to this page & reads this... May you have a beautiful blessed day & may our Lord our Savior touch your heart in a way youve never felt before. I ask all these things in Jesus precious name. Amen.

  8. The beauty of the way Jesus Calling is written is that it is not telling anyone what to do. Rather, it invites us to receive and be nourished by the truths of scripture. It is much like receiving the sacrament of Holy Communion/Eucharist. The next time you receive the sacrament, listen to the spirit of the words spoken and prayers offered. They do not demand that you receive the sacrament. No, they present the sacrament in such a way that you desire to receive it. Jesus Calling has captured that same spirit in presenting the Biblical truths for our spiritual strength. And here in this blog, you and I draw upon our oneness in Christ and receive the bounty from His gracious hand. It is good to be here!

    1. Yes it's wonderful to have Holy Communion. My wife and I share Communion together. After Prayer and Scripture (e.g. 1 Cor 11 v23-26) we serve each other the bread then wine, then prayer again. It's so precious to be able to do this. And of course this is not limited to Sundays only. It's for whenever we meet in His Name, anytime, any day of the week. Wonderful! So precious too to give Holy Communion to the frail and I'll. Thank God for the priesthood of believers.

  10. Thank You Heavenly Father for another day! I woke up to one of the most POWERFUL scriptures (Romans 8:1-2) of Your Love for me and how You view me!
What a glorious freedom it brings when I place my trust in Jesus Christ, knowing that I am free from all condemnation and assured of Your love. No matter what I've done, past, present or future, I stand before You, perfect in Your sight!
This is too mind blowing for me, but I am internally GRATEFUL that You accept me on the basis of what Christ has done and NOT what I have or haven't! Thank You Lord!
Ephesians 2:6 says, God has "raised us up with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus", so being in Christ by faith removed God's condemnation and assures us of eternal life in Heaven. Hallelujah! Thank You Jesus!

My JC family, as believers, let us put away feelings that we don't measure up in God's sight. Our Father has declared that Jesus measuring up is all we need and when we feel condemned (read 1John 3:20), we should examine our hearts to see what we trust for justification instead of Christ and repent! Let us not look for God's approval, but rather, THANK Him for the glorious approval that is already ours in Christ Jesus!
Let's live freely in Christ, He died to give us that Freedom!

Have a blessed Sunday free of condemnation now and always and allow the Lord to "lead you into restful green pastures and guide you along the paths of righteousness"!

  17. PREPARING FOR ADVENT

As I am preparing to observe Advent (the four Sundays/weeks before Christmas), I am feeling very drawn to observing an Advent more in the traditional way it was created by the Church. Advent was created to be like Lent, a time of humbling oneself and repenting from sins that had weaseled their way into the soul. Advent today does not have the significance it once had because our culture wants to fast forward to the spirit of Christmas. That is especially going to be true after this very difficult year we are having. People will be seeking relief from the gloom of the pandemic and will be looking to the bright lights of Christmas to drive out the darkness. But if that is all that Christmas means to anyone, where will that leave anyone December 26th?

My devotional this AM led me to Revelation 1, the final judgment (complete restoration of the creation) and victory of our Lord. It was pointed out to me that Revelation begins with judgment on the believing community in the seven letters to the churches of Asia Minor. My psalm reading had been Psalm 5 which opens, ‘Give ear to my words, O LORD; give heed to my sighing. Listen to the sound of my cry...’. As I voiced those words, there was a strong voice in my head responding, ‘I am listening to you, when will you start listening to me?’

I am being called to observe a wholesome Advent before Christmas. Oh, I will do Christmas things (decorate, play Christmas music, put up a tree, etc. because these are times I spend with my wife), but I will be contemplating in my heart whatever it is the Lord lays upon it. So for the month of December, I may not be as giddy, but more reflective as I seek in the words of Gertrude the Great, ‘ to become anxiously aware of the many things in my heart which would be offensive to Your most chaste purity, and of all the other things so disordered and chaotic that my heart could offer no resting place to You who wished to dwell there.’

Whatever judgment our Lord is doing with this virus, let it begin with me this Advent.

I seek your prayers in my preparation. God be with you. With love, Bob

    1. Dear Bob, Your post was an answer to my prayers. This morning I asked God who would prepare us for Advent? I prayed to have Christmas 2020 mean a little bit more. I prayed for Him to give you the job, and I felt thankfully blessed when I read your email. Yeah! God.
Yes! I'm ready, eager and waiting.
“And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow,
stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so? It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags. And he puzzled and puzzled 'till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store. What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more.”

― Dr. Seuss, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

      Delete
    2. Chris Rock , the comedian blasted America for making Jesus' birthday materialistic. "In America, we commercialize everything. Look what we did to Christmas," he declared midway into his monologue, "Christmas is Jesus' birthday! Now I don't know Jesus, but from what I've read, Jesus is the least materialistic person to ever roam the earth. Jesus kept a low profile and we turned his birthday to the most materialistic day of the year," he said, "Matter of fact, we have the Jesus birthday season. It's a whole season of materialism."

Rock went on to say that not only is Jesus' birthday over commercialized, but people complain that the economy is doing badly after the holiday. "Then at the end of the Jesus birthday season we have the nerve to have an economist come on TV and tell you how horrible the Jesus birthday season was this year," he declared and then mocked a news report," 'OH we had a horrible Jesus Birthday season this year, hopefully business will pick up by his crucifixion.'"
Chris Rock made a good point about commercializing Christmas, Jesus birthday though.
What are your thoughts on the season? Is Christmas, the celebration of Jesus? Or is in stark contrast to how Jesus lived? Is Jesus' season bombarded with materialism? How do you celebrate His Birth?

    3. Bob and Brea I thank you both for giving me things to ponder as we approach the upcoming Jesus birthday season. I to Bob desire purity of my heart and for the judgement to start with me also. As I type this my heart starts pounding, because I am still not driving after the accident. The thought that I could miss judge in a driving situation has taken over. For myself I consider this disobeying God, because I'm not trusting him. He protected us in this accident. I had barely started to turn the other car was going so fast it literally took off the corner of my car axle and all. I know I need to get past my fear (get past my flesh) and live how God desires me to. So please continue to pray for me as I pray for you. I'm turning my eyes to the one who my help comes from and offering up myself to be judged by the only true judge to rid me of what offends him.

    4. Terri- thank you for offering your heart and situation to us. Accidents change us. In time through healing and God’s grace, fear will subside. Now wrap grace around yourself. Take time and care. Breathe in what you know to be true about our Papa. He walks with you. He adores you. He knows you by name. You are his. Nothing is too difficult for him. He will hold you fast. His timing is perfect. Keep speaking His name and together you will pass through this season. Minute by minute he is there. Rest as you can. You are loved.

    5. So nice to see your post, Bob! Looking forward to see what you will share with us for Advent and praying the Spirit of our Lord to lead you exactly where He wants to.

Brie - love what you shared, it really provides food for thought.

Terri - The Lord knows exactly how you feel and He is right there, He always was and will always be. He is patient no matter how long it takes for you to feel better enough to drive again. No pressure. Take the time you need to rest in His Presence refreshing and filling you with His strength, His supernatural peace and comfort.
You might not be able to drive for the moment but you can always walk on water with Jesus. One step at a time, one foot in front of the other hand in hand with Him.

    7. Bob, You did a great job in bringing up the most important concern of this season. That is, the true way of serving and celebrating the Lord this Christmas, and doing it in the right way. I have also been thinking like Brie that Christmas this year above all other years should be about serving others instead of ourselves. We should make more time to be still in the Lord and rest in Him. I'm also looking forward to giving less material gifts and more gifts from the heart. More phone calls to check up on how people are. I have been making ornaments and baking cookies so I can give them each something cheery to put on their tree and cookies to make them smile.
Brie I loved your Grinch post and the one with Chris Rock's words. He sure spoke well and truthfully.
Dear Terri, I continue to pray for God to guide you and strengthen you in this situation. God understands your weaknesses better than you so just put it all in His Hands and trust His guidance. I agree with Blessings from France that maybe it's time for our to rest and restore yourself. You seem to be burdened with much anxiety over the situation. Wait on the Lord and gain strength and peace of mind. One day at a time in His presence. Much love!

So, sit with him, lean your head on him and tell him what is inside of you. I think I need to take my own advice. Thank you for reminding me of this.
Bff "You can walk on water with Jesus", planted in my spirit walking with him (holding his hand) rises us up above ANY worldly situation. Thank you Lord for making all this possible.

    9. Thank you Bob! Your words are my thoughts as well. As each Advent approaches I want to make His coming, my preparation for that celebration more meaningful, less commercial and materialistic. I want to prepare by shunning sin, humbling myself. Jesus arrived so humbly, in a manager, a poor baby who is king of kings, a savior to all! Dear Lord help me to prepare for this grand occasion and beautiful gift you gave to all! Amen.

    10. Amen Bob. Advent should be just as reveered as the Passion. The miracle of Father, Son, and Spirit in some amazing and spiritual way to become an infant in the womb of Mary, a descendant of King David, and as foretold in prophecy is confounding, at best, and yet, a logical conclusion to the restoration of Man to God. We need to LIVE into our eternal nature while here, just as Jesus showed us. Agape and Safe travels to TN! Amen.

    11. OK BOB, looks like you have been nominated to take us through the Advent Season. Duly nominated, now will you serve?
If, yes, then God answers prayers; if no, then God still answers prayers. I will continue praying for the Holy Spirit to guide, wise, and advise you.
      In the meantime, I'm humming...
      HERE I AM LORD
I, the Lord of sea and sky
I have heard My people cry
All who dwell in dark and sin
      My Hand will save
I Who made the stars of night
I will make their darkness bright
Who will bear My light to them?
      Whom shall I send?
      Here I am, Lord
      Is it I, Lord?
I have heard You calling in the night
      I will go, Lord
      If You lead me
I will hold Your people in my heart
I, the Lord of wind and flame
I will tend the poor and lame
I will set a feast for them
      My Hand will save
      Finest bread I will provide
      'Til their hearts be satisfied
I will give My life to them
      Whom shall I send?
      Here I am, Lord
      Is it I, Lord?
I have heard You calling in the night
      I will go, Lord
      If You lead me
I will hold Your people in my heart

    ✝️ FROM PSALM 95
    EVERYDAY IS THANKSGIVING
Oh, come, let us sing to the Lord! Give a joyous shout in honor of the Rock of our salvation! Come before Him with thankful hearts. Let us sing Him psalms of praise. For the Lord is a great God, the great King of all kings and God of all other gods.

    🙏 THANKSGIVING PRAYER FOR US:
Dear Heavenly Father God, Thank You for
Thanks Giving celebration days filled with Gumbo, Turkey, all the trimmings, desserts and libations; a day set aside on the calendar for America to thank You for all You have done. Would You jump start us to begin each day with a grateful heart regardless of what is on the calendar? Would You increase our trust in You to navigate us safely through when our windshield is foggy? Would You also help us take a safe look in our rear view mirror and be more thankful remembering all the situations You've already brought us through? Would you accept our thanks to You for moving us forward and for all the progress we have made because of Your Goodness? And last but not least, would You help us thank You for all the Victories You won and shared so gracefully with us?
In Jesus' Name I ask. I seek. I knock. I praise. I thank. Amen

What more could we ask? You must miss your Mom terribly but she is loving you from afar and the love you shared will never die. You will be with her again.

  20. Loving Father, What a joy and what a blessing to wake up to the reminder that I am not condemned by You. I don’t have to live in shame and guilt over past failures, but I can forget what is behind and strain toward what is ahead of me in Christ. I don’t have to let fear paralyze me because, Your perfect love drives out fear (1 John 4:18). Thank You Father, that my justification is found in Christ alone, it is found in His finished work on the cross and not in what I do or don’t do (Romans 3:28). I find solace in the assurance that I have been adopted into Your family and have been made heir to You and co-heir with Christ (Romans 8:17). Thank You that nothing can separate me from Your love that I have in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:39).

Throughout the years, the law commanded and the law condemned law-breakers and the law also pointed to a righteousness and a sacrifice that would someday come (Romans 3:21), but the law could not remove condemnation from us sinners, until God sent His Son in human nature, as our representative and substitute and there on the cross in the suffering of His Son, God condemned sin. Paul encourages us that we need not fear condemnation because we can come to God as our loving, forgiving Father (Romans 8:15–16). All of us were under God’s condemnation because of our sin, but “While we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.” (Romans 5:6). God poured out on His Son the condemnation that we deserved. He condemned sin, my sin, in the flesh! Romans 8:3. There is now no condemnation over my life and there is now no condemnation over your life, but this is. Only for those who are in Christ Jesus. Our standing before God as forgiven children, means there is no condemnation for us in Christ Jesus. In Jesus name's Amen.

    Blessings and Peace.

    1. Thanks, twin bd sis! Indeed, the cross removes all my failures of love (sin) but it also shows me the gravity of my failure to love. It is no small matter, there are no ‘lesser sins’, a failure to love grieves our Father. God be with you.

She was always going to church and praying without ceasing. She didn't buy gifts ever. I never understood growing up; I do now. My granny, a widow at 34, my mom was 4 years old. She lost her youngest son during WWII. She had an unshakeable faith; her love for our Lord and Savior, well I can't put into words..she wore it. Thank you, Granny, and I'm sorry that it took me so long to understand so please Brother Bob teach me. May Our Father in heaven pour his amazing grace over your prayers and writings. 30. and behold, the glory of the God of Israel was coming from the way of the east. And His voice was like the sound of many waters; and the earth shone with His glory. (Ezekiel 43:2). The LORD also thundered in the heavens, and the Most High uttered His voice, hailstones and coals of fire. (Psalm 18:13). "The LORD thundered from heaven, and the Most High uttered His voice. (2 Samuel 22:14). To Him who rides upon the highest heavens, which are from ancient times; behold, He speaks forth with His voice, a Mighty voice. (Psalm 68:33). The glory of the LORD rested on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it for six days; and on the seventh day He called to Moses from the midst of the cloud. (Exodus 24:16). Now when Moses went into the tent of meeting to speak with Him, he heard the voice speaking to him from above the mercy seat that was on the ark of the testimony, from between the two cherubim, so He spoke to him. (Numbers 7:89).

Heavenly Father, thank You for always speaking to us. We may not always hear You, but You are always speaking to us. You speak to us in many different ways. Although not always audibly, You always try to get us to hear You. I think that most of the time when You are speaking to me, I cannot receive it because it may be something that I don't really want to hear. Please help me Lord. Help me to receive all that You are saying to me. Help me to desire to hear Your sayings -- all of them. Compel me to hear them. My life is only good when You are a part of it and when I let You lead me. Please take control of my life and help me to follow You Lord and the leading of the Holy Spirit and to not follow my own flesh and its desires and things that I think are right. You know what's best for me and I will trust in You Lord. You always take the best care of me. I surrender myself and all that I have to You Lord. I am Yours and You are mine. We are one. Align our spirits together as one and let us walk hand and hand together through the day, rejoicing over You. I praise You Lord always and continually. Thank You Jesus. You are so amazing and the best Father ever. In Jesus name, I pray, Amen.

  31. I came across these lyrics to a song called "A beautiful life" and I wanted to share them with you.

Each day I'll do a golden deed,
    by helping those who are in need;
my life on earth is but a span,
and so I'll do the best I can.
Life's evening sun is sinking low,
a few more days, and I must go
to meet the deeds that I have done,
where there will be no setting sun.
To be a child of God each day,
    my light must shine along the way;
I'll sing His praises while ages roll,
and strive to help some troubled soul.
The only life that will endure,
    is one that's kind and good and pure;
and so for God I'll take my stand,
each day I'll lend a helping hand.
I'll help someone in time of need,
    and journey on with rapid speed;
    I'll help the sick and poor and weak;
and words of kindness to them speak.
While going down life's weary road,
    I'll try to lift some trav'ler's load;
I'll try to turn the night to day,
make flowers bloom along the way.

Oddly, my favorite king in that song is “I I’ll do the best I can.” Many times I try to hard to create this perfect peace and order, and that’s when I remind myself to give myself a break, stay in the moment and the presence of Guys and just let the day unfold and watch what my loving Father has planned for me. It’s much easier that way, knowing gifs promises are true and that he loves me and wants me to have joy in my life. As I read these posts, it’s apparent that we all struggle with many of the same things. That’s comforting to know I’m not alone, and that fellow believers are praying for me and with me. That’sa beautiful thing! Stay strong in Christ family. 🙏 Be blessed and a blessing today. 🙂😇💛

  50. Praise report! Thank you JC Warriors for praying for my SIL (her breast cancer came back and spots were found on both lungs). The lung biopsy was done last week. They were given 3 likely scenarios- none of which were good. The biopsy was benign! This wasn’t a possible outcome that was even presented. Praise the Lord!

  59. I am content to follow my Good Shepherd. He knows the right direction to walk in and He supplies all my needs. He listens for my voice and knows my heart intimately. My mom’s improvement is all about God’s faithfulness and the power of prayer. She trusts in Him above all else.

    Isaiah 30:21
Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying,
“This is the way, walk in it,”
