Jesus Calling: October 10

Trust Me enough to let things happen without striving to predict or control them. Relax, and refresh yourself in the Light of My everlasting Love. My Love-Light never dims, yet you are often unaware of My radiant Presence. When you protect yourself into the future, rehearsing what you will do or say, you are seeking to be self-sufficient: to be adequate without My help. This is a subtle sin--so common that it usually slips by unnoticed.
The alternative is to live fully in the present, depending on Me each moment. Rather than fearing your inadequacy, rejoice in My abundant supply. Train your mind to seek My help continually, even when you feel competent to handle something by yourself. Don't divide your life into things you can do by yourself and things that require My help. Instead, learn to rely on Me in every situation. This discipline will enable you to enjoy life more and to face each day confidently.

Psalm 37:3-6
English Standard Version

Trust in the Lord, and do good;
dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.
Delight yourself in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the Lord;
trust in him, and he will act.
He will bring forth your righteousness as the light,
and your justice as the noonday.

Philippians 4:19
New King James Version

And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus

  1. Heavenly Father, Thank you for this day, may I seek you in all that I do today. Lord, I pray that I turn this day over to you, allowing You to guide me in all that I do. Too many times each day I feel I can go it alone and can handle many things without you. It is at those times I start to worry about the future and question the past. Allow me to turn to You throughout this day to live in the present and receive the joy You desire for me.

    5. This prayer is so spot on....I often worry about the future and question the past....
I know the past can’t be changed and my tomorrows are not even guaranteed
But I still worry and have regrets.Faith is the answer and that’s why I continue to reach out to God , the more I reach out the more I can work through the worries and not so much forget the regrets but learn from the past...

    9. This is an honest prayer! And it is spot on. As much as I don’t want to admit it, I get anxious when my circumstances are unpredictable. I try to prop myself back up but it gets difficult to get back on track. That’s where I have to say to God, I’m sorry Father. Forgive me for trying to take this on myself. I need you to fill me up with your Presence so I can go about this day leaning in and listening to Your Voice! I trust you Father!

  4. Jesus’ disciples asked Him to teach them to pray (Luke 11:1-4). Jesus response has evolved into what we know as the Lord’s Prayer/Our Father. It contains the essence of our relationship with our Lord. The essence of our prayers should be:
1). The heart’s desire for the will of the Father to be our priority.
2). The realized notion that we live in absolute dependence on Him
3). The admission of our shortcomings in being faithful and others toward us as well thus the need for the Father to be patient with us as we will be patient with others.
4). The realization that there is a spiritual warfare going on for our souls and our inability to have any success in winning that battle on our own.

This is the spirit in which we should pray on a frequent basis and to the degree we do, today’s reading becomes a reality within our souls. The essence of prayer is not so much getting God to fix things (He already has on the Cross). The essence of why we pray is for the shaping of our heart by the Spirit of the Father.

    1. I know this was a year ago. I hope your granddaughter is doing better. I was praying this morning for one of my granddaughters. She is only 16 and is dating an unsavory guy 3 years older than she that treats her terribly (verbal abuse, no physical). Her mom thinks it best to allow him to come over, even stay there, because when my daughter was that age we didn't allow her to be with the unsavory and she found a way to do it anyway behind our backs. She thinks its better to back away as opposed to pushing her daughter away by not allowing the relationship. I know all I can do for her is pray. appreciate all prayers. Mary okc

    2. Jan, I don't know the back story. Did your friend previously test positive for cancer? I ask because I'm struggling with some decisions and I know the devotion is to just let things happen but not sure that applies to THIS. I was told back in September that I have thyroid cancer again. It is outside of my esophogus, but they suspect it is inside as well but that will take a different biopsy. Just to have the biopsy I might end up with a trach because last time they paralyzed my right vocal chord. The cancer is on the left side this time and if they paralyze my left vocal chord I will definitely need a trach. I am on an alternative protocol and by the time the biopsy comes up I will have been on it for 2 months. I have to decide whether to go with the biopsy and risk the trach or ask them to put it off to give more time for this alternative stuff to work. At that point we're looking into next year and new deductible, new out of pocket....ugh. I would appreciate prayers for this decision. Thanks.

Many went to bed last night, but are not here today. A chance given that can not be taken for granted! THANK YOU LORD!

JC family, may we embrace this abundant life God has given us and live fully in His Presence, trusting and depending on Him, never relying on our own strength or that of others.
Gracious Lord, as we put our petitions before You, may each one be according to Your will and not ours. Help us in our weaknesses and short comings. May the Holy Spirit remind us each day that reliance upon You is the best and smartest choice we can make. Thank You Lord. Thank You for Your Love-light that never goes dim. May we recognize it, acknowledge it, receive it and live in it to the fullness of Your Glory in Jesus name. Thank You for helping us on this journey of life!

  20. THOUGHTS ON INTIMACY WITH OUR LORD

The reading of the psalms on a regular basis has always been a part of the worship and daily prayer of the children of God. When St Benedict developed the pattern of daily prayer, his order prayed the psalms in their entirety on a four week cycle, usually three at every time of prayer. How you use them is up to the Spirit's lead. But the value of opening with the reading of the psalms is that they show us how to pray to God. There are five types of Psalms; Praise and Adoration, Confession, Seeking Illumination, Prayers for others and self, and Thanksgiving. These are the forms of prayer given in scripture for the shaping of the worship experience. It is good to allow these psalms to shape our prayers in our 'date' with our Lord. I find today in the worship experience an imbalance of the different forms of prayer with the greatest lack being in the use of confession. If our relationship is to be whole with our Lord, we need to pray/converse with Him in all the areas He has given us in the psalms.

Though it is Saturday when you are reading this, you may note that it was written yesterday, Friday. Often the guidance of my devotional on Friday has thoughts to that Friday when our Lord suffered and died for our sins; thus, it focuses on the need to seek God's mercy for our sins (lack of love). This AM my devotional led me in using Psalm 51 in which the Spirit then guided me into a healthy time of self-reflection and confession of failure to love. The Spirit's purpose was not to 'beat me up' for my past shortcomings in love but rather to lead me to acknowledge my sins and to let me know I was forgiven, cleansed, and made whole again by His grace. With Psalm 51 as my guidance, it was a good and wholesome time of seeking God's mercy and needless to say, it was found. That is the impact of reading the psalms before beginning to pray. The psalms provide a holy framework for shaping our prayers.

May you have a blessed weekend and may it be filled with the Lord's favor (a given). God be with you! With love, Bob

He really understands me so well and I am blessed to spend time with my very best friend who loves me for who I am in Him. I have many shortcomings and the Lord knows them all. But He also knows I love Him more every day and I depend on Him in all things. I pray I'll be a blessing to Him and all I encounter today as I do my best to stay in His presence, grace and favor.
BFF I just love Psalm 51 and it makes me examine myself. I often pray: "Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me." Psalm 104 is wonderful too. I especially love verses 33 and 34: "I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. May my meditation be pleasing to him, as I rejoice in the Lord."

  21. Wow! To my JC friends and fellow followers, who also are on a journey with rough and easier paths, may we all see and experience the blessing of His Spirit. With the Spirit in each of you and working in love, we remain gripped by His hand in grace. Am grateful for the incredible number of responses covering this coming week or so of my journey in prayer. I was truly moved and humbled by all the kind comments and the actual prayers offered up to our Father.

Yet, all that I can say in turn, to each of you, is that after being incredibly blessed over many decades that I am confident, with your prayers, that "ALL things work together for good." I do not know the future and, for now, human frailty does create stress. But all my personal history affirms that God is not insensitive to our imperfect world and is not creating obstacles to test our faith... rather He is using free will and our natural world to demonstrate His love for me and you. Godspeed Team JC. So thankful for our journey, and looking forward to the mountain tops He is leading "me and thee" to see. Amen.

  23. Loving Father, You are certainly all-powerful, and absolutely loving. You have substance, Your Word and promises are secure, and I put my trust in You and rest. Thank You for Your grace. In Jesus’ name, amen!

Life is ultimately meaningless without God, and without Him we live without hope. Therefore, we must firmly believe that our trust in God is one of the most important aspects of our faith that allows us to boldly serve Him. May this confidence infuse our whole being. He always has our best interests in mind and have a plan bigger than we could ever imagine. We must not live on our own, but trust Him when we don’t know what to do, trust Him when we don’t understand why, trust Him on the mountain top, trust Him in the darkest times, trust in the good times and trust Him in the bad times, trust Him when we are confuse and trust Him at all times!
When we declare that God is a benevolent, omniscient, omnipotent power who is in total control of our lives and all that goes on in this universe, we must trust Him! When we do our part and trust Him with all our heart, leaning NOT on our own understanding, we can trust that He will do the rest. God holiness, size, power, beauty, understanding, knowledge, and person are incomprehensible! For this and many others, we must TRUST Him!

Dear Father, We rejoice in Your abundant supply, refresh in the Light of Your everlasting Love and trust You to carry out Your work in our lives. We trust You. Thank You Father. Amen!

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.” (Jer. 17: 7-8).

  27. BEACH DEVOTION: COCONUTS AND YOU ARE BOTH ENDLESSLY USEFUL
Coconut trees are a familiar sight on tropical beaches. Coconut dispersal is by water. The tree grows outward as well as upward, so the nuts will fall away from the trunk. When the tree is planted by the water on the beach, some of the nuts will be washed out to sea where they may be carried long distances, to land on a distant shore. High tides and winds will push the nut above the high water line where, as soon as it soaks up some rain, it will germinate. The tree grows quickly. Every part of the coconut is involved in its growth.
And like many other natural products, coconuts can be used in countless ways that can affect millions of people. Also true of us. Our mind, heart, talent, physical abilities, and our limitations can all be put to work by God for God. We can make an impactful imprint of Him by being: A friendly face. A trustworthy person. A true friend. A wise counselor, etc. Empowered and directed by God, all our offerings can be significant and impactful.
When looking at a coconut the next time, consider all the wonders and possibilities contained within. And, when looking in a mirror the next time, consider the same thing.

    Dear Heavenly Father God,
Would You use every bit of me to accomplish Your Work on earth as it is Heaven? Large or small, may the impact of Your Work done through me reverberate Your Kindness and Your Goodness for many generations? In Jesus' Name: I ask. I seek. I knock. I thank. Amen.

Anyway, I said, Jesus, it's Your decision because I'm putting it all in your Hands. WHEW! Thanking instead of complaining is much easier said then done. Thanks for providing a guidepost that lead me back to Him. And thank you JC Family for all your prayers and shares.

Help me to stop trying to "figure things out ". It's not my place. It's only Yours. Your will be done. Sometimes it's hard for us to remember this because we get caught up in what we want and forget. Please forgive us, as I know You will Lord. Thank You Jesus. Amen 🙏.

    7. Just a reminder of God's attentive nature to hear our Out loud prayers the ones that just flit across our minds. I was so tired when hubby walked in after a day of volunteering. Thinking he had eaten, I didn't give it another thought but was relieved to not have to cook. NOT!!! I decided to fix eggs & potatoes. I had one egg, shoot! There's more eggs in the garage fridge, but he's tired, I'm tired, one egg will have to do. After frying the spuds, I broke the egg on top, well lo & behold! Yep you guessed it! Double yolk! We both laughed & gave God thanks for His goodness & Holy sense of humor. Sooo, the message here? Don't be dismayed, Our God is in the heavens ready & delights in not only doubling our blessings, but pressed down & running over! Hallelujah!

Maplewood your sincere request to God is like when God asked Solomon what he wanted God to give him. Solomon's request was "wisdom". Because Salomon asked this and for riches or fame God gave him abundant wisdom and far far more. God wants you to know he sees you and he hears your request for strength, courage and wisdom to do his work. He desires to give you your request and more. His desire is to pour in you and over you blessing that overflow because he sees your heart and knows you will pour out your blessings over others.

  37. I was listening to a podcast on how to overcome fear. This devotion today again reminded me to be focused on the moment and abide in him, to remain in him, in His presence and allow God to be god and watch what only he can do. The answer is not wondering what God can or might do, it is that He is God! The answer to your fear or anxiety is at the cross. It is finished! E know therefore how much he loves us, his character and his promises. Rest in that! While we will be afraid at times, the key is to not take residence in that fear, but see it as a transition period that will test and strengthen your faith and your dependence on God. And that is a comforting way to think and live; don’t be fearful, be God-full!

  41. Asking for strength prayers dear warriors. My 79 yr old mom (who is in very bad shape) fell down a flight of 20 stairs last weekend. By the miracle of God she had no broken bones or serious injuries. She has been staying with my sister this past few days after getting out of the hospital but insists on going back to her 2nd floor apartment. We have tried forever to get her to move to a ground floor apartment but she will not and we have no legal recourse to make her. She can barely walk, she suffers from severe depression, and she has had several mini strokes that has made her speech almost impossible to understand. My sister and I are doing the unenviable task of taking her to her apartment tomorrow where we believe she wants to go to die. I am driving the 3 hrs each way so my sister doesn't have to take on that burden herself. Please pray for my mom and for my sister and I. Thank you JC family.

  44. "Lord Jesus I trust You in all things."
That's what I say to Him regularly, but do I?
The kind of trust He means in today's JC reading is the kind of trust that enables me to let go of the steering wheel and driving controls when negotiating heavy downtown traffic! (autonomous vehicles are not my thing).
I am one of those who rehearse what to say before a medical or any other appointment; partly through age as I forget things, partly as I want to be as succinct and don't want to waffle.
I also am in the habit, mostly through my business and work life, of planning my day, ticking items off and making f/up (follow up) notes as I go.
Herein is a dichotomy; I trust You Lord, but I want to control my day. Problem is, I can't do both. It's either one or the other.
A mixture of both, will cause my vehicle on the road of life to careen across oncoming traffic.
So how to achieve a 'hands off' approach to each day?
To me, at least part of the answer is to be more aware of Him, more aware of of His continuous presence through the indwelling Holy Spirit.
Additionally when I 'give' Him my day, don't take it back again! ( Strong note to self).
So I share my prayer with you: "Lord Jesus I confess I find it hard to let go of trying to control my life and the days events. I am aware that I actually can't, but I still try.
Help me 'Trust You enough to let things happen without striving to predict or control them.' Help me be open to You, to be more aware of your Presence as you walk with me through this day. As a learner swimmer let's go of the side of the pool trusting the water, so I let go of control, trusting myself to you, Amen.

  54. "Trust Me enough to let things happen without striving to predict or control them."
I find this sentence difficult. I'm not interested in predicting outcomes, or in controlling anything or anyone but particularly where loved ones are concerned, it's hard not to advise especially in areas of health where someone will not seek medical help when it's so obviously needed.
"So Lord Jesus I trust You, I'm exercising my Trust muscles, I'm trusting You enough to let go and let You handle things without my input.

Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits—who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion.

  56. Knowing the Lord as your Shepherd:

God is your Shepard, leading, guiding,
protecting, providing. He is your light,
comforter, salvation, strong tower, refuge, vindicator. You HAVE NO LACK!
He prepares a table in the presence of your enemies. You eat the VICTORY meal!!!

When under attack, pray Isaiah 54:17:
"No weapon formed against you shall prosper. And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord. And their righteousness is from me," Says the Lord.
And if you fall, mess up, pray this:
Miach 7:8 "Do not rejoice over me my enemy; When I fall, I will arise; When I sit in darkness, the Lord will be a light to me."
    HALLELUJAH!!!
