Jesus Calling: October 22

No matter what your circumstances may be, you can find Joy in My Presence. On some days Joy is generously strewn along your life-path, glistening in the sunlight. On days like that, being content is as simple as breathing the next breath or taking the next step. Other days are overcast and gloomy; you feel the strain of the journey, which seems endless. Dull gray rocks greet your gaze and cause your feet to ache. Yet Joy is still attainable. Search for it as for hidden treasure.
Begin by remembering that I have created this day; it is not a chance occurrence. Recall that I am present with you whether you sense My Presence or not. Then, start talking with Me about whatever is on your mind. Rejoice in the fact that I understand you perfectly, and I know exactly what you are experiencing. As you continue communicating with Me, your mood will gradually lighten. Awareness of My marvelous Companionship can infuse Joy into the grayest day.

Psalm 21:6
English Standard Version

For you make him most blessed forever;
you make him glad with the joy of your presence.

Proverbs 2:4
English Standard Version

if you seek it like silver
and search for it as for hidden treasures

  2. The ongoing spiritual battle to gain my attention for the ultimate purpose of gaining my allegiance. What will dominate my head, what I see with my eyes (circumstances) or what I hear from the Holy Spirit through this time I am spending with my Lord (the Promises)? And when I move on from this time of intimacy with my Lord, circumstances will be seeking to regain control of my head. What I must do as the day goes on is to regularly return to the promises I dwelt upon in these sacred moments. This is why I am called to pray unceasingly for the purpose of allowing the Spirit to dominate my perspective in all circumstances. Though prayer is often perceived as an initiative to get God involved, I have learned that God always has been involved, I pray to affirm His presence with me always and to open the door for Him to show me how to manage any change in circumstances. A simple prayer that can be whispered whenever we start something new comes from the psalms, “Lord, come to my assistance; make haste to help me.”

  3. Like many of us seasoned JC "paytonites"!!, I deal with middle of the night hyper-thinking far too often. If I don't fall back to sleep, I grab my phone and explore today's JC devo and read over this blog's posts from yesterday and today. So praying for all the needs expressed here is common in the dark quiet of the early morning.

Before I head back to bed, I would add to today's thoughts: my and your journey in our prayer life is to realize that through seeking Him that He is pleased with our disposition and understands intimately our troubles. For God came to live among us so that we can have confidence that He understands the plight of our existence. He as Jesus, felt physical pain, heard the pleas of those who were sick with human ears, and took on Satan's temptations to perfectly atone for all of our sins. We as his children can, in faith, have joy that He overcame the world for us. I and those who awake with hyper-thinking of today's upcoming struggles can be at peace as we head back to sleep because "the great I am understands you perfectly, and He knows exactly what you are experiencing."

Godspeed fellow JC travelers. Peace be with you today.

  9. I have noticed that God often brings scripture or songs to my mind and holds them there for awhile to speak to me. One of many ways He speaks. Today these words are playing in my head; "you restore the broken, you heal the sinners heart. You make all things new. All things new."

Those words are amazing to reflect on through the day. Sometimes that healing seems like it is taking forever, as with my relationship with the woman I love but the fact remains that He is healing in His way and in His time and in the process, He is changing me. So even though my arms ache to hold the woman I love, I am rejoicing in the "hope" that He is doing a greater healing. That is amazing love.

  14. Yes! He has created today...it is not by coincidence or chance. This exact day 6 months ago, my husband quit his job to stay home with our daughter (forced mostly by various circumstances). We thought it would be temporary until we found daycare and he found a different job. It was not so temporary and we have struggled to make ends meet with only one income. We were let down several times by what we thought were good opportunities for him. We prayed and trusted (although it was difficult) that He had a plan. Today, 6 months to the very day that he quit his previous job, he began his new job and our daughter started daycare/preschool. She is 2.5 years old and never been in daycare so we worried how she would do. She walked confidently in there and the teacher has reported to me already that she is doing great. Praise our Lord for His perfect timing and will! Her daycare is quite a drive and very expensive but knowing she is in good hands is all worth it. We are in quite a financial strain from 6 months of living on one income but He is the provider of all things. How GREAT is our God!

  16. So thankful for this morning and for all of you, JC Family. Thank you for your prayers for my husband's campaign, for his commitment to you and Your Word. For healing my body of all the aches and pains that come from getting to live this long. Let me remember and go back to the words of this devotion throughout the day, "I suffuse your soul with Joy in My Presence; at My right hand there are pleasures forevermore."
Lifting each of you and yours, "Peytonites," (loved that, MadFox).
Keith - you are so right in that all healing is from God. Having a little toe in pain reminds me of the Body of Christ: when one little thing is out of line, it affects the whole body! And then, to read your verse, Sassy Mom - what a blessing of a reminder.

  17. THOUGHTS ON INTIMACY WITH OUR LORD

On yesterday's blog, I shared with you the value of repeating for the purpose of ingraining deep within us God's love for us. Allow me to share a thought on the process.

There is a tendency when we repeat some well-known truth or prayer, for the mind to wander since we know it so well. We can recite the Lord's Prayer/Our Father and plan dinner at the same time. (Hmmm.) We all can be guilty of coming to a familiar passage of scripture and speed read it (or worse, skip it) because we know what it says. That may be true, we know what it says but we do not know what the Holy Spirit wants to say this time when it is before us.

When I use repetition, I have learned to pause and take a deep breath to open my heart and mind to what the Holy Spirit wants to say this time. From a sign I read in the sacristy of a church I was assisting in a wedding, "Treat this time as if it were your first, as if it were your last, as if it were your only." A good thought when using repetition.

Seek to be blessed this day in all that is familiar. God is moving in your midst. God be with you. With love, Bob

    1. Thanks for the reminder, Bob..."Treat this time as if it were your first, as if it were your last, as if it were your only." It put a song in my mouth and turned it into a hymn to our Lord Jesus Christ!
My first, my last, my everything,
And the answer to all my dreams.
You're my Sun, my Moon, my Guiding Star.
My kind of Wonderful, that's what You are.
I know there's only, only One like You
There's no way God could have made two.
      You're, You're all I'm living for
Your Love I'll keep for evermore.
You're the First, my Last, my Everything.
In You I've found so many things,
A love so new, only You could bring.
      Can't You see it's You,
You Who make me feel this way,
You're like a first morning dew on a brand new day.
I see so many ways that I can love You,
      'Till the day I die....
You're my only reality, yet I'm lost in a dream.
You're my first, my last, my everything!

    5. So much good food to chew on today, Bob. We will never have this day again, nor will there be another one like it. Let us do today what He is guiding us to do to His glory. I will read His Words slowly and allow the Spirit to shower me with more wisdom and understanding. I did a painting last night on the computer from a photo posted 2 days ago by my Sister in Christ on Facebook. I told her someday I would paint it. I know she lost her Dad recently and she is suffering from Lupus. She said she couldn't wait to see the painting when it was done. God stirred in me a need to paint it right away for her. So last night when my husband headed to bed, I went on my painting program and I painted it for her. God was truly with me the whole time and I'm so blessed to have completed it. I also made it into a Bible plaque and card using Jeremiah 31:3. Blessed I am and blessed I will remain. I thanked the Lord for His faithfulness.

    9. When it comes to what we call The Lords Prayer, I find that using it as a framework/ skeleton/ coat hanger to hang prayer on is the best way of ensuring focus in prayer. Jesus never said 'Stick to this religiously' He said 'Pray after this manner (or In this way)'. So use every phrase, each sentence to expand/ flesh out with your own words.Example: " Your will be done on earth", I pray specifically for all the nations I have worked in, travelled through, or vacationed in, and all the people I have met in these nations/countries. Yes, it may take a lot longer to pray The Lords Prayer and I'm in no hurry, but I find I am focused and my mind is less inclined to wander. Trust this helps.

    10. I will try your framework/ skeleton/ coat hanger approach. our dear Brother Friend in Christ, Peter JF Jackson. Yes, it may take a lot longer to pray The Lord's Prayer, yet it provides me with an opportunity to activate GRATEFUL FOLLOWER'S marvel at the wonder of Creation, worship the Creator, deliberately becoming slower, that's a good thing; more aware of His Presence, that's a better thing; and best of all things, using all the time I have left to just be; and ALL of eternity to enjoy being with Him! In Jesus' Name. Amen.

  19. The Scripture says in John 16:33: “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Loving Father, How blessed I am to have You as my Father, who loves me with such intense love that You know absolutely everything about me, what I go through and when I desperately need You. Thank You for another day to acknowledge that and just worship and praise Your holiness. I realize that I can’t rise above my circumstances on my own, it requires coming to You every day in prayer, believe in You, trust in You, and give You my challenges. May I stay diligent through prayers, never allowing my faith to die even if the answers don’t come right away. The delay in my waiting period could be Your way of working Your will in my life or teaching me something through the challenges. I Thank You for the opportunity to live closer to You, for the strength You provide through every circumstance, yet never leaving me but loving me unconditionally. I rather not submit to my circumstances, but to You who controls all of them and find complete peace and joy. I submit to the Holy spirit’s work in my life which I trust will end with a deep and lasting assurance through it all. The joy I have in You is independent of my circumstances, so thank You Father, for Your sufficient grace, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Often when we are face with situations out of our control(or even in our so-call control), it’s hard to find true joy and contentment, and during thus time we may not want to thank God for those challenges, but we should thank Him for the good we know as believers, that will come from it. Why? because He promised us beauty out of the ashes (Isaiah 61:3) and He always gives us the strength to go on even when we can’t feel it.

Dear Father, Every time we feel pain from a circumstance, please help us to stop and pray, ask You to take away the pain (or not), and give our eyes and ears to see and hear Your perspective in the circumstance. For Your plan and will is always best. We ask this in the name of Jesus our Lord, amen.

Philippians 4:6 says: “Don’t worry about anything, instead pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done.”

    Blessings and Peace.

    1. Amen, Amen, & Amen, Maplewood. When I see things differently than someone or in a situation, I ask God to open my eyes to see it or the situation the way someone else sees it and for them or the situation to open their eyes to other options & possibilities....When I do this, I find myself less critical or thinking my way is best. What often blows me away is when God does one better and shows me a totally different "option" or way to see or think about something that I never thought of or He resolves it in a way I didn't see possible. I love when that happens. Those are such awesome God winks! Blessings & healing to one and all, JC family! Happy Thursday!

    4. A year later I'm learning to practice this more often from Maplewood's words above:
"Dear Father, Every time we feel pain from a circumstance, please help us to stop and pray, ask You to take away the pain (or not), and give our eyes and ears to see and hear Your perspective in the circumstance. For Your plan and will is always best."
      I'm finding it to be a very useful tool as I navigate life without a husband, best friend, sibling etc to bounce things off of. I have to totally depend on asking for the Lord to show me how to think about things. Any prospective the Lord will show me through this prayer I can use for knowledge and discernment as in our verse;

      Proverbs 2:4

  22. Reading each day/evening often just amazes me how this devo can miraculously be on point with my, and perhaps your life. So, this AM am headed to one major diagnostic test, and we read: "Other days are overcast and gloomy; you feel the strain of the journey, which seems endless. Dull gray rocks greet your gaze..." Praying for all who are struggling with sickness, that today, we can shine our faith to all we encounter. Sadly, many are in great distress when you're at a hospital or clinic, therefore may God use all of us today who are in a hospital to reflect JC's wise words: "infuse Joy into the grayest day."

But that JC wording mostly reminds me of Psalm 118:24: "This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." Praying for healing for all, and that God will be glorified. Amen.

  25. BEACH DEVOTION: BOARDWALK CHOICES
As a child spending summers in Atlantic City prior to the casinos, the Atlantic City beach and  boardwalk were seemingly endless pathways of provisions and choices. Whether or not the weather was sunny, gray, overcast, gloomy, or not, there were always choices to be made. Some of those choices included meals, beach accessory stores, refreshing beverage stops, dessert and taffy shops, amusement park rides, swimming etc. As a small child, all these choices were numerous and overwhelming to me. I was easily turned around when navigating through a crowd of strangers, not knowing what to choose, how to manage my allowance so it would last, and then how to find my way back to our family's beach blanket after drifting out in the ocean. That is, until my Parents, Aunts and/or Uncles stepped in. They took turns waving me in to shore, holding my hand, walking me slowly, and leading me through the myriad of options. I trusted their direction, their comforting and calming manner as they lead me to the choices that brought joy and fulfillment to my needs.
Corinthians tell us that All desires that come into our life are the same ones as of old...
As an adult, I am still overwhelmed by choices. Should I apply for this job? Move? Befriend this person? Buy this home? Go to this university? Invest in this opportunity? Start a new ministry? Let estrangements go? Forgive? Etc. It seems that the Boardwalk choices and decisions of my youth, continue into my adulthood.  Though my parents, Aunts, and Uncles are long gone, God remains. He is a good, wise insightful parent at our side, always holding our hand, calmly reassuring us of His Presence, His Guidance through the crowds and through the choices. He is greater than all the options and outcomes combined. Through all kinds of weather,  He is what matters and what we want the most. As we stroll Hand in hand together, enjoying His Company, and relying on His Steadfast Hand guiding us, weathering choices can be fun, exciting and enjoyable as they were on the beach and  boardwalk in Atlantic City, and as they are now on this beach boardwalk of Life!

FROM PSALM 16 The Lord Himself is my inheritance, my prize. He is my food and my drink, and my highest joy! He guards all that is mine.  He sees that I am given pleasant brooks and meadows as my share! What a wonderful inheritance!  I will bless the Lord Who counsels me; He gives me wisdom in the night. He tells me what to do. I am always thinking of the Lord; and because He is so near, I am standing straight and steadfast. My heart, my body, and my soul are internally filled with Your Eternal Joy.   For You are with me in the land of the living; You have let me experience the joys of life and the exquisite pleasures of Your Own Eternal Presence.

    MY PRAYER FOR US
    Dear God our Heavenly Father,
Would You remind us that in all kinds of weather, You are always by our side, holding our hand, and giving us Your Wisdom to choose options well, especially those that bring us Your Peace, Your Ease, and Joy in Your Presence? And in ALL circumstances and situations, would you help us turn on the faucet of Your Eternal Joy that You placed inside of us?  In Jesus' Name. I ask. I seek. I knock. I thank. Amen.

    1. Dearest Brie! The Spirit is working mightily within you and your beautiful words of truth are pouring out like cool water from a faucet. You made me remember how as a child my family and my grandma would go to Joan’s beach and spend the most joyous days together. They all took turns watching, guiding and protecting me. I loved holding my Nani’s hand. She was one of my favorite people in the whole world. Now my grandsons call me Nani. How blessed I am. Anyway I loved holding her big strong hand except she loved to dunk me in the water which terrified me when I was only 3 or 4. But I always felt wrapped tight in her care and utterly blessed. I was in awe of the Beach beauty, sounds and smells, the salty water, the feeling of the cold ocean on my little toes. and even the scurrying of tiny fish we used to catch in paper cups. Above all I felt taken care of just as our Father takes care of me every day. I’m still in awe of the beauty of His creation and I always feel completely safe holding onto His big strong Hand. What a sweet and blessed assurance we have. Hallelujah!

    2. WOW! A lot has happened since I last logged on, although my prayers remain logged on for you and yours 24/7.
AUDRA: Larry, Keith and I are still moving forward by the Grace of God and all of your prayers.
Keith's PSA, that you prayed for last year at this time, is now a miraculous .023, praise God! The Eligard treatment is working with no side effects. We are blessed that God is working through Keith's Urologist, for whom we also pray. Although Larry is ignoring his Dr's orders not to lift anything heavy, he otherwise seems to be recovering well.
TERRI: Total and Complete Recovery Prayers are being prayed for you the Grand Angel, and your Angel Grands. May the breath of God fall afresh on each of you, until your lungs are free and clear, your best dreams become reality; may you wait on the Lord until you run and not grow weary, and you walk and not grow faint.
JAN: Clearing Prayers for your carotid; may it be and remain free and clear.
JEANNE: Prayers for your and Rick's Boosters; may they work as intended and keep both of you clear and free of covid.
NJS: Peace is flowing like a river and so is milk from Paula. Prayers remain active for you, Paula , Ben, and our newest Christian, Baby George and his earth angel, Kacey. May his tied tongue become completely freed to preach the good news of Jesus when he is able to speak.
MADFOX: Adding to your prayers for calm during the storm of heart season (you, Larry, Keith, Jan, etc) during lucky October. As Autumn Leaves start to Fall in other areas of our Country, then I am reminded that I Autumn Leave it all at the foot of His Cross and just Fall into His Arms, where I am safe and saved during lucky October and forevermore. Amen.
NORAH: May God bless your clearing up to clear out, and bless our two newest Heavenly advocates, Arturo and Tom. May their souls, and all the souls of His faithfully departed, rest in His Peace. Amen.
PETER JF JACKSON: Thanks for the poem, Are we Nearly There Yet. Yes, we are Nearer My God To Thee.
GRATEFUL FOLLOWER: Thank You for sharing 9 decades of His Wisdom with us. Wondering what you would say to us who are decades short of yours, but still following, too?
SASSY MOM! Happy 59th to you and your Heavenly Man. Any cake you touch would be an Angel Food Cake. Still praying for our Michael. How is he?
JANET: New Job Dance! = Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow! Prayers for your successes according to His Plan.
RICH C: Praying for you and wifey to enjoy His Peace, Joy, Good Health, Wisdom, Clarity, and Grace. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
BRANDY: It was good to see you again!
AMANDA: I am going to dig out my nativity scene before I go to bed. Thanks for reminding me as I wonder how many other JC Warriors are likewise pulling out and displaying their Nativities?
JJ: Lord, I know you go before us as our Leader. I know you fight every battle. I know that only you can win against satan and defeat it for us. JJ is right behind you; the one crouched behind JJ is me, an understudy, trying to learn how to go boldly to Your Throne of Grace as she does, in Jesus' Name. Amen.

    11. Oh our Jeanne, I just read back to bad things happening to good people. First, and foremost, you have my healing prayers. No infection will come near you. How blessed is little Gabriel to learn Forgiveness at such an early age.

As you have already discerned, You Asked Jesus for His Forgiveness for both you and Gabriel. Now the next step can be taken: Accepting His Forgiveness. And then the next step: Forgiving ourselves.. and then the next step on The Forgiveness Frontier: Moving On, Forgiven!
You already laid your missteps at the foot of His Cross, so now you may rise freely Forgiven, albeit slowly and carefully so as not to reopen the playground wounds.
I have started traveling Mercy prayers for your safety and healing on this leg of the journey. So thankful that you were blessed to make your family happy and were able to hold baby Nathaniel.
The Moral of your Playground TESTimony appears to be, "I told him I forgive him because God forgives me when I do bad things."
Our Rick, what a man. his love and caring for you makes me sing to the Goodness of God!
I will try to read later to hear how God blessed you again today.
Thank you for freely sharing the good, the bad, and the ugly, but especially, The Forgiven. In Jesus' Name. Amen

  29. Dear warriors. Calling on each of to please pray for the Amish families in our community. A dear family of 8 children who experienced a horrific accident in a buggy. The mother was killed holding & protecting her 9 mos. Old in her arms, the father died later. The children went to different hospitals to be treated broken legs, skull fracture & so on. They ranged in age from 9 mos. To 16. The truck driver that hit them had a seizure. Prayers are going up for a place for these children. The baby jerks every time a door opens or closes & cries for mommy. Special prayer for this little one please. God will make a way. Thank you all & God bless.

  33. But now I come to you; and these things I speak in the world so that they may have My joy made full in themselves. (John 17:13). Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:13). and though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, obtaining as the outcome of your faith the salvation of your souls. (1 Peter 1:8-9).

Heavenly Father, thank You for the joy You bring to me. You fill me with Your Presence and I burst with joy. You are so wonderful. There is nothing that compares with Your Presence or love. I may not understand You or Your ways, but I trust in You Lord and feel Your Presence and know that You are with me always. You are my salvation and without You, I'd have nothing and I'd be nothing. Thank You Jesus. I praise You Lord always. Let Your Presence fill me up and Your love light shine within me. Reveal to me what I need to know and help me to grow in You. Guide me and direct my steps along the path You have for me. In Jesus name, I pray, Amen.

    1. God's joy is grounded in the wonder of divine love for us. And this love bond is something that can never be broken. Joy comes when we trust the Lord. Placing our trust in God brings joy. We have a God that loves us more than we can imagine; a God Who is more powerful than we can ever comprehend, and Who has promised to help us if we put our trust in Him. Settle it in our heart that God wants to help us. God gives us joy and peace. Real joy comes from God and is ours forever. God's living Word transforms our hearts and minds and by the power of the Holy Spirit, our hearts are tuned for joy in the right things. Joy is a gift granted by God. Thank You Jesus.

Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength. (Nehemiah 8:10).

  51. Took this from today’s devotion because it spoke to my weary heart. “Rejoice in the fact that I understand you perfectly, and I know exactly what you are experiencing”. My Mom may have encephalitis. Hard to diagnose without a spinal tap. Staying one more night because my family needs me. Thanks for your prayers. Please lift my Cousin Beth who has lung cancer. She had a procedure yesterday because she had trouble breathing. Trusting in God’s faithfulness to cover them and my family and all of you and your loved ones.We are not alone and God keeps his promises. Thank You Jesus. .

    2 Corinthians 12:9-10
But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

    Philippians 4:13
I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

    1 Peter 1:3
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

  54. As I was reading His Word, I remember when a young woman asked me "why do I need a Bible, what is it for"? Remembering a simple explanation I said, "the BIBLE gives us Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth". And that she could understand (B.I.B.L.E.). Grateful for His Word and the freedom to worship His Holy Name. On another note, sending prayers to Israel that God provide them with whatever they need. I trust the ending of this war because God's plans always prevail!!!
