Jesus Calling: October 27

As you become increasingly aware of My Presence, you find it easier to discern the way you should go. This is one of the practical benefits of living close to Me. Instead of wondering about what is on the road ahead or worrying about what you should do if . . . or when . . . , you can concentrate on staying in communication with Me. When you actually arrive at a choice-point, I will show you which direction to go.
     Many people are so preoccupied with future plans and decisions that they fail to see choices they need to make today. Without any conscious awareness, they make their habitual responses. People who live this way find a dullness creeping into their lives. They sleepwalk through their days, following well-worn paths of routine.
     I, the Creator of the universe, am the most creative Being imaginable. I will not leave you circling in deeply rutted paths. Instead, I will lead you along fresh trails of adventure, revealing to you things you did not know. Stay in communication with Me. Follow My guiding Presence.

Psalm 32:8
English Standard Version

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
    I will counsel you with my eye upon you.

Genesis 1:1
English Standard Version

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.

My Prayer
Lord, why don't I pray more? I spend so much time of  my day trying to figure out the next decision or the next turn in the road for me, or a friend or a family member -- and you meanwhile desire me to talk to you about it, to surrender it to you and allow you to work a solution. Help me to stay in better communication with You. The problem Lord is I don't trust you; I don't think that praying to you will make that big of a difference and for that I am sorry; please, forgive me. You created me and everything I see so help me with my unbelief so that I'm turning to you first, not as a last resort.

  1. Dear Lord, I too look to the future missing the daily blessing of your presence today. You have a path laid out before me, a path that is written specifically for me. Help me not to miss the beauty of your presence today, and help me not be concerned with an unknown future. With faith there should be no concern of the future. Amen.

  2. As I read the words of today’s thought, the message to me is very simple and straightforward. If I would live in the moment loving the Lord my God by loving who ever I am with and giving praise and thanksgiving for all I am blessed with, everything will fall into place. The path before me will be as light as day. As was the case in the parable Jesus told, recorded in Luke 13:1-9, where the servant of the gardener begs the gardener to give the unproductive fig tree one more chance to bare fruit, today you and I have another chance to live in love mode, only love mode. We have the gift of the Holy Spirit which empowers us to fulfill our calling to be the image of God, to be love. It is as possible as we want it to be.

    3. Wonderful devotion and prayer which held much honesty and revealed human weakness. We all pray for others but sometimes forget to pray for ourselves. If we trust in God's healing for others, we must also believe He can mend our own brokenness in body, mind and spirit. I have been praying for myself lately and I know that is showing trust in Him.
      Bob, So true! Let us live in the moment and take our time with the Lord. When I was working on my Bible group readings, I started to rush passed the verses that were so familiar and then I remembered to stop and savor them. No matter how well we know them God gives us more wisdom and understanding with each passing day. So when we are filling ourselves with spiritual food, let us not chew quickly and swallow but leave it in our mouth a while longer and enjoy every last taste of it. I feel God's Spirit with me during my Bible groups and I speak to them with the words He feeds me. I am blessed and so well taken care of. I will do my best to live in the present today in His presence.

    4. Thank you again Mr Payton for this Bible blog and for sharing your heart so openly. You are such a blessing! We all sin and waiver and Our Loving God is always with us. Thank you Bob for sharing your loving and faithful wisdom! You bless us all. Thank you Jeanne; yes, let us savor every scripture and let us be in Gods image of Love. It is always so much easier for me to pray for others! As I’ve been going through these health issues for months now from a hit and run. I was hit and he drove off. I have been praying more for not just others but for myself. I feel so much closer to God and I feel His presence, love and peace more deeply. Love you all and sending up prayers for each of you!

    Remain and grow in Grace and stay in the Presence of the Lord this day.

  10. Greetings to you all from Galveston on this glorious morning. I wish I could share a photo of the beautiful sunrise and a blip of the waves crashing on the beach. It's easy to feel close to God here. I don't get down here as much as I would like to but when I do, I get to re-evaluate my priorities. As I sip coffee on the porch watching people walk their dogs on the beach, I see them leave footprints in the sand. This is their path today. I contemplate my path- am I following where He wants me to go? Will my footprints in the sand be the direction He wants? Today and always I choose to live in His moments. Today and always I choose to be His hands and feet.

Chris-you put into words what I was so afraid to admit out loud or in writing😊...’the problem Lord is that I don’t trust You. I don’t think that praying to You will make that big of a difference...’. But, guess what? You know my heart and You love me anyway and in all ways!! You have always walked with me when I took the left road and not the right; when I walked in endless circles you were there. Your answer may not have been what I prayed for (rarely is!!) but it is ALWAYS better! Forgive my doubt and make me stronger in Your way. Your Will be done this day...not mine!
    I lift up all these warriors that I have called my family to your care Father! Let them feel Your Presence through their joys and sorrows, victories and trials! In the name of Jesus, I pray.

  14. THOUGHTS ON INTIMACY WITH OUR LORD

    I close this time of intimacy with our Lord by reciting the Lord's Prayer/Our Father. When the disciples had become aware of the powerful prayer life Jesus had, they asked Him to help them learn to pray as He did. In Luke 11, He responded with the essence of prayer. Did He intend that the disciples (and all the Church to follow) should pray those words verbatim? It certainly doesn't hurt. In observing Catholicism, I see it is considered the highest prayer that can be offered because Jesus instituted it much as He did the sacraments. When my brother-in-law was dying, a nun came into the room where my sister-in-law was waiting and the nun asked if she could offer prayer. My devout sister-in-law said definitely yes. Then my sister-in-law told me how disappointed she was that the nun only offered the Lord's Prayer. I explained to her that the nun, rather than 'winging it' in prayer as we Protestants like to do was offering the prayer that she held most dear in her heart in love for you. Yes, we do 'wing it' in prayer by the power of the Holy Spirit and I am sure that you have had many times someone has prayed in the Spirit and it touched you deeply. But let us not lose reverence for the Lord's Prayer/Our Father that the Church has practiced since Jesus first said it, for within it is the essence of our relationship with God.

    My devotional this AM called my attention to the glory of God from Whom, through Whom and in Whom is the existence of all things (Romans 11:36). I was led to consider God's loving hand upon me in His creation of me, in His reaching down to save me from the very beginning, and His constant sustaining of me all through the years. I was humbled and entered into worship and wonder of God with thanksgiving for all of my life's journey that He has been faithful in blessing. When I closed in usual fashion with the Lord's Prayer/Our Father, I was overwhelmed how every clause within it has been fulfilled by God's love for me. Further, it will always be fulfilled into all eternity. Indeed, even in this moment, it is fulfilled. With great humility, I was thankful.

    The Lord's Prayer/Our Father: the sacred prayer given by Jesus, the essence of prayer to be remembered as we pray, the prayer committed to memory to be drawn upon in any moment, the prayer of the communion of saints when we can reflect our oneness as we pray with each other and for each other.

    Let us pray; Our Father... God be with you. With love, Bob

We have all sinned and even after we have been forgiven by God, we often take the burden of sin back onto our shoulders. Leave it with God. He has forgiven you. Forgive yourself because we are all broken and flawed. But God's love covers all our sins and believe He is redeeming you and setting you on a bright new path. He has never left you. Feel His presence and His unconditional love and mercy. Praying for you dear Xavier. Much love

    4. Dear Xavier, don't be afraid to run into His arms instead of run away. Sometimes we don't want to talk to God about what we feel because we know it is not what He wants us to feel. But as hard as it may seem, the best thing to do is to pour our heart to Him, telling Him every little thing on our mind, even the bad ones. By telling Him, He will then be more able to help you and realign your thoughts with His will.

  22. Exodus 33:14 “And he said, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”

    Loving Father, I know that my awareness of Your presence is instrumental to my relationship with You and failing to recognize Your presence is setting myself up for negative outcomes. I pray the Holy Spirit will always nudge me into taking a break and be still in Your presence or just worship Your Holiness. Thank You for a new day to do just that. In Jesus’ name, amen.

    The Lord has graciously made Himself known to us, therefore as believers we have the task to continually become more aware of His presence, His voice and His will. Sometimes we get preoccupied with our daily work load and responsibilities, that it becomes difficult to sense His presence. But if we don’t make the conscious effort to sense His presence, we won’t hear His voice and if we can’t hear His voice, we won’t know His will for us. Whenever we remain aware of God’s presence, everything changes and our faithfulness is displayed. We are better suited to endure through sufferings and hardships and are able to manage uncertainties. But the moment we lose our awareness, we are at risk of falling back. Knowing God is with us, is knowing and believing that with Him, all things are possible.

    Genesis 28:15 “Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land. For I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”

    Blessings and Peace.

  26. Oh, what a day! Non-stop from morning until just now. But, I've gotten on here throughout the day and prayed, as requested: for your son, Jan; for Pastor Louie, Sassy Mom, and giving thanks for all of you - especially, MadFox as you've made your decisions and assimilate this newest challenge. God will carry out His promises for you and your family, and you, obviously are so open to receive. Continued prayers, my friend and brother in Christ, for all you are going through. I 'gnosko' (Greek for experiential knowledge), exactly what you are going through. Your dear daughter is especially in my prayers. We had one of those too...the one who was the furthest away (location-wise), but the most heart-felt-concerned for her Daddy. It was so good to connect with you and be able to take our situation and help you with yours. God is so good.
    Chris Payton - just look what your effort, love and diligence has done, for so many!
    Love and Blessings, JC Family! Your prayers are mine and I thank you for yours!
    P.S. Xavier Hill - I want you to know that you are specifically in my prayers, too. There was so much wisdom in the responses you received to your honest prayer. God never moves - we do. He is the constant and always ready to receive our prayers. Your prayers and desires are even more, His. He's never surprised by us, and always willing to answer, when we're ready to hear. He's never pushy - He's a gentleman (I think it was Bob that shared this with us) and will wait until we ask. I pray that you are ready and I also pray that you find that it's easier than you think. He's your Dad and LOVES you! Excited to hear your results.

  28. How blessed is the one that You choose and bring near to You to dwell in Your courts. We will be satisfied with the goodness of Your house, Your holy temple. (Psalm 65:4). She heeded no voice, she accepted no instruction, she did not trust in the LORD, she did not draw near to her God. (Zephaniah 3:2). The LORD is near to all that call upon Him, to all that call upon Him in truth. (Psalm 145:18). "Return, O faithless sons, I will heal your faithlessness." "Behold, we come to You; for You are the LORD our God." (Jeremiah 3:22). Serve the LORD with gladness; come before Him with joyful singing. Know that the LORD Himself is God; it is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; we are His people and the sheep of His pasture. Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him and bless His name. (Psalm 100:2-4). "From the days of your fathers you have turned aside from My statutes and have not kept them. Return to Me, and I will return to you," says the LORD of hosts. "But you say, 'How shall we return?' (Malachi 3:7).

    Heavenly Father, thank You for living within me and all that You do in me and through me. You are Almighty God -- the One and Only God; there is no other. Who am I to deserve such majesty as this? I am so grateful for this pleasure and blessing from You. I think I sometimes take it for granted and for that I am so sorry. Please forgive me Lord. In this day and age, it is so easy to take many things for granted. We have so much in this life, but we don't stop and take the time to really think about all that we do have. We complain about everything that we don't have, but we don't really give thanks for all that we do have. All the little things that we just expect to be in our lives daily. When I first wake up (within the first few minutes), I should be thankful for having a bed to have slept in the night before and having shelter to keep me comfortable; for having indoor plumbing and a bathroom and kitchen, running water and a shower, a refrigerator, electricity, floors and a ceiling. We just don't realize all the "little" things that we take for granted every day that a lot of people don't even have today much less had back thousands of years ago. We have come a long way, but we are losing our humility and compassion along the way. I could go on and on about things we have that we take for granted, but I know You understand what I'm saying. So, please forgive me Lord for being so ungrateful and complaining about the things that I don't have when You have given me so much already. Your Presence is the icing on the cake (so to speak) and I am most grateful for YOU! For without You, I am nothing. Thank You Jesus. I praise You Lord always and continually. Please help me to listen to You more and me less. Remind me of Your Presence with me all the time and thank You for it. In Jesus name, I pray, Amen.

    I am weak, but Thou art mighty,
    Hold me with Thy powerful hand.
    Bread of heaven, Bread of heaven,
    Feed me now and evermore;
    Feed me now and evermore.

    Open now the crystal fountain,
    Whence the healing stream doth flow;
    Let the fire and cloudy pillar
    Lead me all my journey through.
    Strong Deliv'rer, strong Deliv'rer,
    Be Thou still my Strength and Shield;
    Be Thou still my Strength and Shield.

    When I tread the verge of Jordan,
    Bid my anxious fears subside;

  30. Beautiful words, Peter - is it a song? Janet, your words are so true - I pray I'm thankful every day for the many things we take for granted. Madfox's sharings the last couple of days have taken me back to "This Time Last Year..." So many answered prayers, so much to be thankful for. Jeanne - you have been on my heart. Is your leg healing? Are you good, Sister?
    Two days left in my job until Nov. 2nd reveals next steps. It has been hard to take it one day at a time. In fact, so hard that I've laughed at myself! As if any of us ever know what is going to happen the next day. It's so easy to get into a routine that leaves us thinking we actual KNOW what's going to happen. Every day is an adventure in and of itself. Walking hand in hand with our Lord is our only guarantee of peacefulness.
    I was so happy to hear about your cardio outcome, Jan! And Brie, your penguin story was eye opening to me. MadFox, I hope we can catch up sometime soon. What a journey you have been on and you have walked it out so well. I got to listen to your sermon, Bob. Such a blessing. Please pray for these last two days for me, JC Family. So much to do and it is strange to think that I may not return to a routine that for the last 9 1/2 years has been my "go-to" routine. When we get so busy that we just move day to day, not thinking about anything but the next thing we HAVE to do, it can be daunting to think of open days with no routine! Today's JC spoke of that so clearly to me.
    Giving it all to Him who cares for me! I'll keep reading and praying for all of the requests and dancing for joy over all of the victories. Your prayers are mine, JC Family!

Almost a year later, I still ask for guidance on how I can best serve out Lord. Apparently, I have to learn how to rest and be still and not "do" so much πŸ˜‰

    Asking for prayers for my daughter as she deals with many life events that can be stressful. I also find myself wishing I had instilled some of the more recent things I have learned in her earlier on, and that I had learned them earlier as well. What would you add to this list of words of wisdom to those we love?

    * The Word of God is alive. Reach for it and read from it every day
    * God is good all the time, and all the time God is good

    2. Dear Audra--- What you say changes the spirtual atmosphere and that imparts to the natural atmosphere. You are a King and Priest unto your God and have a RIGHT to rule! So, if you are a King under the King of kings, don't receive what the enemy is trying to put on you. You rule and know it is ALL a lie and the enemy is about his work of STEALING, KILLING and DESTROYING. We Do Not receive his garbage! You say NO and REFUSE to tolerate ANYTHING he TRIES to impart to you. He doesn't get to tell you lies about yourself and your daughter. You have Godly AUTHORITY and DOMINION and that supersedes every natural dominion in the earth. So, to rule, we decree and declare over you and your family: The Lord will be your guide always. He will show you the way to go. You and your family WILL NOT walk in darkness. You and your family WILL NOT stumble. The sun shall not smite you by day nor the moon by night. Stephen is in a better place, because after his fall, this world held nothing for him. But God's promises are now being revealed in him. Brian has a wonderful supportive family to lean on and I believe his father's passing may spark a renewed faith in him. I sent him many Bible verses for comfort, and I pray he reads them and opens his heart to Jesus. May God comfort them all. My dear son Bryan sent me a text saying he thought the contract would be signed by today, and that the whole family will be here very soon. He will be driving their car and a UHaul storage container from California to New York by Thanksgiving. God will be in that car, for sure! Thank You Jesus. I will shine His light to my family in Boston even without saying His Name because I'm not allowed to mention God in my son Dylan's house. I believe those babies will see the bright light inside me and someday they will want it for themselves. I pray that someday Dylan and Erica will do the same. I put it all in His able Hands.

  48. Like many of us I guess, my car has a GPS ( Global Positioning System). These days I've come to depend on it. In the past we used maps especially when travelling in unfamiliar territory, indeed some of us still do.
    I like to visit a church on Sundays wherever in the world I'm working. In the early 90's working at the Toyota Lab in Erlanger KY, I decided to visit the Cincinnati Vineyard church. I got on the I75 traveling north but was quite apprehensive that I would take the correct off-ramp. I printed a map before I left the Marriott Inn but the detail was not too clear. Fortunately I got there and back ok.
    We Christians too have a GPS; I call it God's Providence System. It includes guidance and all provision for each day we travel the King's Highway. It's in electronic or printed form - The Holy Bible, additionally it's internal - the indwelling Presence of the Holy Spirit Himself.
    If we go off-track, Isaiah 30:21 applies: (Good News Translation)
    "If you wander off the road to the right or the left, you will hear his voice behind you saying, "Here is the road. Follow it."
    Psalm 25:9 "He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them His way."
    John 16:13 "But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come."
    I love God's personal touch in Psalm 32: 8b "I will guide you with Mine eye"
    We just have to keep attentive and follow Him.

  50. Thanks be to God for Audra, Blessings From NY, Janet, Jan gridley. Jeanne, NJS, Suzanne R, and all who prayed for Keith. It was a long day.
    Keith's transport went well. The Blood draws were difficult, painful and took a long time to complete. As each vein was blowing or non-productive, I kept praying, thanking God for all His help in the past, and for all the JC pray-ers gathering in prayer, and how their prayers ALWAYS availeth much and put Jesus in our midst. I started singing, Let the blood flow...and saying Jesus Jesus Jesus...until blood started flowing, slowly and scantily, but flowing. They couldn't get enough blood to fill up the 6 vials. They did manage to put a few drops of the blood they did get into each vial. They sent the vials to the lab. We just got His Victory notification that the lab was able to analyze and result what was sent. Thank You God! Thank you pray-ers!
    And what made the end so sweet?
    His PSA has dropped backed to 0.10 !!

    My Victory Dancing shoes are working OT 😊
    Please join me in thanking God.
    In Jesus' Name. AMEN!

Shoes are laced and I've got Cece Winans, "I've Got Joy" playing on Alexa followed by Zach Williams, "Old Church Choir"...both such joy-filled and uplifting songs...perfect for victory-dancing! So happy and relieved for you and Keith, Brie! Hugging you!

  51. Thanks for all those who have been praying for my Mom and my cousin Beth. My heart is heavy because Beth was called Home yesterday but God’s mercy took her out of her suffering and I believe I’ll see her again. God made a way for my Mom to see a new geriatric doctor yesterday. There were no openings for 2 weeks and then all of a sudden there were 2 cancellations and they called her to come in. Waiting for her test results. God is leading everything and hopefully we will find out why she is so weak and confused. God is so faithful.

  53. You will make your prayer to Him, He will hear you, and you will pay your vows. (Job 22:27). I have called upon You, for You will hear me, O God; incline Your ear to me, and hear my speech. (Psalm 17:6).

  54. Lord Jesus, even though I say I don't worry there are times when worries creep in especially as I start to wake up in the mornings; I hate that feeling in the pit of my stomach! Even though I hand all my concerns to You ("Cast all your care upon Him for He cares for you"), I still get those niggles of doubt; and yes I do hand them to You but why oh why do they keep returning? I trust You in all things in my life; all circumstances, all situations, all provision all needs, in health for my self, my wife, our family and friends. Yet Lord I still succumb on occasion to worry.
    Forgive me Lord, help me trust You more.
    To 'trust' is to firmly believe in the reliability, truth, or ability of someone or something.
    Lord Jesus You are totally reliable. You are the Way, the TRUTH, the Life. You are Almighty God, Your ability can never diminish.
    Increase my faith, my trust in You as I reaffirm I trust in You in all things, my Lord. Amen.

  58. Oh, Dear Family - you are all in my prayers. Jeanne, I rejoice in your response to your dear cousin Beth's passing. You are so right, my dear sister - you will see her again. Yet the 'sting' is still present. On Monday, we lost a life-long friend, Lloyd. He was my age - 68 and was dx'd with Cancer over a year ago. His oldest son, an Oncologist, was the one who directed my Dear Hub to the hospital that dx'd and treated his Multiple Myeloma (which is now over 10 yrs in remission - which they never even used to use the word, 'remission,' with MM. You know all about this MadFox and yet...you are almost there! Thank God!). My heart is heavy for our beloved Lloyd's wife of 42 yrs, Tricia, who is also a Rev. She dedicated three of our five Littles and they had two sons. The youngest is taking this very hard. I life them in prayer and ask all of you to do the same, especially tomorrow from 11-1 EST, as they have his Memorial.
    My heart is heavy because we can't be in IN for the service. I would so love to be there to support Tricia and her two sons. Her eldest has to fly out Sunday and leave for Ireland on Monday to speak at an Oncology Convention. Andrew is the one who pushed his Dad to go to the Dr. (which Lloyd despised). And when he did - it was too late.
    My youngest son and I watched, "The Exotic Merigold Hotel," Parts 1 and 2 over the last week. One of the lines was, (paraphrased), "When someone you love dies, it causes you to think of your own death. What would you have done differently?" That's kind of where I am right now, JC Family. I need to make changes; I need to retire and spend time with my Best Man; I need, I need....." Please pray with me to make the necessary changes that I need to make and to do it gracefully (which many of my mentors, parents, etc) did not. "Many people are so preoccupied with future plans and decisions that they fail to see choices they need to make today. Without any conscious awareness, they make their habitual responses." JC at it's best. Please pray that I do not fall into that category.
    Jeanne, Brie - I'm still praying for you and your loved ones. I'm celebrating with you, Dear Brie and Jeanne, I'm so glad your Dear Mom likes her Dr!! Step One of Mission Accomplished is in place!
    Love to all of you Dear Ones. You and yours are always in my prayers and I know me and mine are in yours. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
    Once again - sorry for the 'rant,' just SO much going on. Also, please forgive any typos. I'm too tired to go back and 'proof' my message - LOL!

    2. Sending love, dear Norah! Rant anytime you want!! Praying for Lloyd to rest in the loving Arms of the Lord. The pain is over and the perfect peace begins. May God wrap Tricia and Lloyd’s two sons in His love and comfort and guide them through the next chapter and to all the support they need and dry their tears. They will be with Lloyd again. They know you loved him and care so much for them. They will understand why you can’t be at his Service. You are nothing but light and love to them. Put the future in God’s able Hands. He will
      guide your path to retire and spend more time with your Best Man. It will all work out because God is in charge.
      Thank You Father for this and for answering all our prayers in Jesus’ Name. Amen
