Jesus Calling: October 17

Anxiety is a result of envisioning the future without Me. So the best defense against worry is staying in communication with Me. When you turn your thoughts toward Me, you can think much more positively. Remember to listen, as well as to speak, making your thoughts a dialogue with Me.
If you must consider upcoming events, follow these rules: 1) Do not linger in the future, because anxieties sprout up like mushrooms when you wander there. 2) Remember the promise of My continual Presence; include Me in any imagery that comes to mind. This mental discipline does not come easily, because you are accustomed to being god of your fantasies. However, the reality of My Presence with you, now and forevermore, outshines any fantasy you could ever imagine.

Luke 12:22-26
English Standard Version

22 And he said to his disciples, “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat, nor about your body, what you will put on. 23 For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing. 24 Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds! 25 And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? 26 If then you are not able to do as small a thing as that, why are you anxious about the rest?

Ephesians 3:20-21
English Standard Version

20 Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

  1. Heavenly Father, I ask that You enter my heart and guide me through this day. I pray that I stay in continual communication throughout the day with You and seek Your will for me. Too often I am anxious about the future and allow myself to fall into despair and project negative outcomes which keep me from You. During these times I pray that you remind me that You are here and with You all will be ok. I love and praise you with all my heart.

    2. I know what you mean. We need not to entertain one thought. About what going to happen to us. Even about the most simplest things in life That isnt really important at all. These thoughts can take.us down a rabbit trial. What came to my mind just now The story about Alice and wonderland. These types of thoughts can take us away from Jesus Christ This is what our Lord is telling not to do. He needs to be our maine focus every minute every hour every day. Thank you Lord protecting from my anxieties

  2. Dear Jesus,
I don’t know why lately I am having anxious thoughts about dying. Maybe it’s because I am almost 49 and my cholesterol is high. I am also working again and because I have been confined at home I don’t handle stress well at all. It’s so peaceful to not be around people but I know I can’t make the difference I want to if I am not. I have been having these anxious thoughts pretty much since I started working again. Please help me Jesus to not worry or have anxiety. Help my unbelief knowing my life is COMPLETELY in Your Hands and all of my days. Help me to know that with ALL OF MY HEART so I can REST in You because anxiety is exhausting. Thank-You for the cross and how You have already forgiven me for this. I praise You for that and I praise You for my MANY blessings. Thank-You that I am in Your everlasting arms. Be with me TODAY and help me to please live in the MOMENT. Thank-You for Your Spirit that lives in me, guides me and gives me the breath of Life. In Your Name I pray Amen πŸ™ ❤️

    1. Thank you, Sharon, for opening your soul to me. What I see in you is myself with similar thoughts and feelings. Hell has been described by some theologians as the absence of God. Indeed, that is what we create in the moment when we allow the demons of worry, fear, and anxiety to set up camp in our souls. Have you realized how the world wants you and me to be stressed? For when we are stressed, we will buy the world’s products seeking security, listen to the world’s advice to find direction, tune into the world’s distortions searching for reality. The whole scenario is void of God and yes, hell on earth, which increases stress, spiraling us downward into the abyss of depression. Today’s advice is the antidote to all this negativism assaulting our soul. As often as we are willing to take our medicine proscribed above by the Great Physician, we will find relief. Lord, help Sharon and me so to do.

    2. Dear Sharon. I too started feeling like that around that age. It sounds like you could be in perimenopause. I am 52 now, and still struggling. I have asked God to guide me every step of the way. It's been rough, but I am.never alone. I will pray that God guides you to someone who can help. It is a natural part of the change, but it's not easy.

    3. Good morning God! You know I still struggle with missing social gatherings. You know I am wondering about the fallout from what I think everyone wishes could be a peaceful election. But we are focused on winners and losers. The numbers, Lord. The divisiveness, the separation, all this weighs heavy on my mind. We say we want love, but we don't love. We say we want peace, and many don't have it or know where to find it. We taut we want justice, but don't know the One and Only Judge. We want to be healed from disease but don't ask the One Who Heals. We fear death because we don't believe in eternal life. God help us, in Jesus's name.

    4. Sharing in your perfect prayer Audra. May Gr guide, heal and govern His broken people. I have given the election to our wise Father to guide and I will not waste another moment worrying about it. He is the one who holds the world and our future in His able Hands. He wants us to be blessed and prosper. The best outcome is the one He guides us to. I rest in Him.

    6. Amen Bob. Your words describe the reason I first swallow my PRESCRIPTURE every day before going out into the world: the world wants you and me to be stressed. #METOO, LORD!

    8. I am still in need of prayers as I still share Sharon's situation: Please help me Jesus to be at peace without worry, anxiety, unkind thoughts, words, and deeds. Help my unbelief and distrust by knowing my life is COMPLETELY in Your Hands all of my days and You are truly a good, good Father. Help me to know that You love me with ALL OF MY HEART so I can trustingly REST in You because anxiety is exhausting me.
Please help me to better follow Bob's prescriptures and become more like The Ravens, instead of like the world; buying the world’s products seeking security that only You can give, listening to the world’s advice to find direction that only You can give, tuning into the world’s distortions searching for reality that only You can give.
Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Let me turn only to You. I ask. I seek. I knock. I praise. I thank. I yield. In Jesus Name. Amen.

Help us to remember that you have promised to provide what we need each day to make it through that day. Let our tommorrow be of little concern as our weak faith allows. 7. I read these every day and every day these devotionals are right on point. My marriage has been through more than I care to remember in the last year. After a good summer things turned around again 2 weeks ago. My husband is struggling with his feelings for me and the desire to divorce. We have 3 young boys. I have come a long way- Its nearly 4 am. I just woke up and he was on the couch said he was tossing and turning and didn't want to wake me- was going to sleep there. My heart hurts for him. For our boys. For me. I began to get emotional but instead told God that He was good and I trusted him. Please pray for our sweet family. I love my husband deeply and pray He will listen to God. I pray God will work in only a way He can and restore our marriage. I pray for peace for my family

  14. THOUGHTS ON INTIMACY WITH OUR LORD

There are many suggestions for the passages of scripture to be read each day. Some suggest one, others two or three. You have to find your own way with this. For me, I can find myself overwhelmed if I read too much. Further, with too much to read, I find it difficult to contemplate. But then at another time, the Spirit leads me to read more than usual because the passages blend together so well. Again, you have to find what you are being led to do.

Something that has been a source of rich blessing for me is having someone's reflection on the passage I have contemplated. This is the Second Reading in the Divine Office. The devotional I use always provides a meditation from some devout soul in Church history who has written something that more fully brings out some aspect of the passage which I have read. These are not long articles, simply a paragraph or two that compliments the passage of the day. In so doing, I find myself reading from brothers and sisters in Christ from the past whom I never heard of but whom God used to help bring His truth into full bloom. There have been occasions in the past that I have shared these readings with you in this blog because they had made such an impact on me.

Clearly in this blog, we are using the inspiration that Sarah Young received to write 'Jesus Calling'. It appears to me that God saw His children drifting from trust in Him by the thinking of our culture. Thus the Holy Spirit moved within Ms. Young to write as she did. Will 'Jesus Calling' stand the test of time and become a part of the great classics in Christian literature? Time will tell but it is meeting a very present need in the Christian community for now. It would be interesting to know where the reading of JC fits in your daily practice of listening to God. The suggested steps in Divine Office are the reading of scripture then the reading of someone's meditation. But, at times, JC has been very significant to me in providing a strong calling to trust before I read the scripture for the day. We must always be careful in saying the Spirit can only work in one direction. The Spirit is sovereign over all and can use all ways to work to our good.

Have a blessed weekend dear sisters and brothers in Christ. May you love extravagantly all whom God has brought to you. God be with you. With love, Bob

    5. Not really into Churchianity, I am however into Christianity. I don't follow rituals or ordinances or offices. Saved through Grace by the Blood of the Lamb of God, my Isa,and in wonderful relationship with Him, it is His Presence I need constantly. The JC Devotional has been part of my own daily devotions now for many years. Two copies wore out working and traveling through many countries. The copy I have now is looking worse for wear, so I rely on this wonderful JC Blog Family. Each country I have worked in, I have sought out a local fellowship with whom to worship. Language is no barrier, we worship Him in Spirit and in Truth (e.g. Japanese and Arabic are superceded by the language of love). Isa, Jesus in English, is our Head, we who love Him are His body. It is wonderful to worship Him not needing to comply with religious rules and strictures, but to follow His Word in Truth, Light and Love and conjoined with Brothers and Sisters in Christ. 17. Today, insisted my wife still attend a girls' get-away weekend with friends to "detox" from the week of "diagnosis psychosis" (ha!) inflicted by my health challenge ahead. Admittedly, I had planned to go alone to the highest point in our state, which is a mountaintop overlooking a huge national forest 1000 or more feet below (remember this for later in the post), to talk with God as the sun set... My goal: "INTIMACY WITH OUR LORD". Bob's topic of late.

After an exhausting day with doctors' staff, changed appts., work changes due to upcoming tests, insurance pre-certifications, etc., I drove about 1.5 hours to the state park overlook. Arriving 30 minutes before sunset, I purposely used an app and had it randomly play new contemporary Christian songs. At the peak of the cloudless orange sky sunset, here's the song that played, that I'd never heard before, by Tasha Layton:

My heart is breaking, In a way I never thought it could, My mind is racing, With the question....

Though the mountains may be moved into the sea, Though the ground beneath might crumble and give way, I can hear my Father singing over me, "It's gonna be okay, it's gonna be okay"

I've blamed myself, And if I'm honest, maybe I've blamed You too, But You would not forsake me, 'Cause only good things come from You... From beginning to the end, You're so close

You have never let me down, And You won't, In the valleys, in the shadows, I know, You're so close, You're so close

Though the mountains may be moved into the sea, Though the ground beneath might crumble and give way, I can hear my Father singing over me, "It's gonna be okay, it's gonna be okay.

A song about a mountaintop and valleys with a message of "it's going to be okay" randomly plays as the sun sets? NOT! In Him and in His Love. Godspeed JC Warriors, I am still awed by the love and prayers that continue. In agape back at ya! Amen

God's plan for us is good even if He allows us to go through the valley! The good news is, He promised to be there, and so this morning, I thank Him that you are allowing Him to hold your hand through this valley experience. I pray that His name be glorified as He guide you through. I pray for strength, wholeness and renewal of Your mind and body. I pray that His light continues to shine in and through you. I pray that you come out with testimony to His goodness and love! And yes, "though the mountains may be moved into the sea, though the ground beneath might crumble and give way," He is right there beside you, never leaving nor forsaking you!! You were encouraging Chris at the loss of his mom, Unknown, 0ct. 16 scripture reading brought your present circumstances to mind, 2 corinthians 1:3,4. Praise be to God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. You have comforted many of us, now we petition the Holy Spirit to shower you & yours not only comfort but hope, hope in the name of Jehovah Rapha, your great physician & healer. He has the final diagnosis!!! We love you & walking aside if you through this journey. πŸ’•

  25. I am loved and cared for, like us all who are believers in Christ Jesus! When I have something heavy on my heart, Jesus speaks volumes! Once I open my devotion in JC, He corrects me and puts me back in place. That is powerful knowing that He cares for me and has not left me nor forsaken me.
What's been dwelling in my heart and mind is, I work a full-time job as a Paraprofessional plus trying to squeeze in time to work on our business. What's been weighing on me is do I leave my job; with medical benefits that help us, more so my husband, or step out once again to focus on our business as I have let go on much tasks due to unable to catch up on? Not only the business but also my home and our marriage. My husband has left it to be my decision to whether stay working or quit. The other situation that lays heavy is this heavy burden; debt for the last 15 years now garnishing my pay.The debt collector years ago refused to work with me so it has come to this. I am at my witz end. I have paid my debt years ago by the number of garnishments it just now the added fees that have been tacked on which is astonishing amount.
Not to whine nor complain. I simply feel trapped on all ends!
Times I do feel it is time to focus on our business and to move forward but how to get paid without furthering the garnishment along with a reasonable health insurance plus investment for our retirement?
God has a plan! I to have clear understanding to what He holds for me and today's message definitely opened my heart as always! He is my friend, protector, advisor, my lover!
    Amen!

(When my son, Nick, had a bout with shingles at only 26 years old due to extreme stress, I sent him a roller bottle of blended essential oils to apply and soothe the shingled area, Nevaton Forte from Standard Process (Schisandra, Skullcap, St. John's), and told him to stay away from caffeine. Nevaton has been a sought after supplement by patients these past two years as it calms without sedating at all. Brings a heightened state down to manageable and clears the head of anxiousness. I use it when going to sleep to stop the list making in this busy cabeza of mine, lol, or if dealing with A LOT on my plate. But, again, doesn't make you sleepy.

  59. Praying for each of you Dear JC Family and I thank you for your prayers, as well. Our guests from Germany arrive this afternoon. DH has carotid surgery 10/24. Prep for that this week, too.
Love and continued prayers to each of you.

  60. Thanks for all your prayers. My Mom continues to decline. She is forgetting how to do simple tasks like wash her hands. She can’t stay awake during the day. She sleeps a lot and then she’s up all night. My cousin Beth just called me. She feels miserable from the chemo, age has trouble breathing and all her medical problems are dragging her down. I tried to make her feel better and told her I’m praying for her. Got a call today from my dear friend Mayda. If you recall, her husband Emilio had the kidney transplant and he is going through such a hard time now. I’m comforting them with the same comfort I receive from God. Just keep praying for so many people. I know God wants us to drop it all in His Hands and rest in Him. I’m really trying. Thank You Jesus for healing them all and making their ways easier. πŸ™

  62. My mom's blood test results weren't good. Although she doesn't have Myasthenia Gravis, her sedimentation rate was 120 percent. Her Neurologist said she has a bad infection which is causing her confusion. My sister and her husband are taking her to NYU ER tomorrow morning. I'm so very concerned about her but I know Jesus is with her. Resting in Him and leaning on His faithfulness. Thanks for your prayers. I'm praying our Way Maker will make a way for her to be healed and clearheaded again.
Rest well, God is on the Night Watch.

    1. Praying Jeanne... that is a very high SED rate. A lot of infection and.or inflammation. She definitely needs prayers and medical attention. I offer that to Him now. May God's love envelope all of you as you traverse this part of her journey. Godspeed. Amen
