Jesus Calling: October 24

Lie down in green pastures of Peace. Learn to unwind whenever possible, resting in the Presence of your Shepherd. This electronic age keeps My children "wired" much of the time, too tense to find Me in the midst of their moments. I built into your very being the need for rest. How twisted the world has become when people feel guilty about meeting this basic need! How much time and energy they waste by being always on the go, rather than taking time to seek My direction for their lives.
I have called you to walk with Me down paths of Peace. I want you to blaze a trail for others who desire to live in My peaceful Presence. I have chosen you less for your strengths than for your weaknesses, which amplify your need for Me. Depend on Me more and more, and I will shower Peace on all your paths.

Psalm 23:1-3
English Standard Version

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
    He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness
    for his name's sake.

Genesis 2:2-3
English Standard Version

And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation.

Luke 1:79

English Standard Version

to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death,
to guide our feet into the way of peace.

My Prayer
Lord, forgive me for being distracted by technology and always filling my time with this website or this application or that game or that piece of media. Lord, instead of focusing on your call for my life, I spend too much time just being entertained. But Lord, you remind me that peace isn't found through a screen but through a relationship with You. Keep me on the right course. With you as my shepherd, I shall not want. Show me that rest is not simply staring at screens, but resting with you, reading your Word, meditating on it and serving your people. I want to live in the way of peace so change my habits so that I always glorify You.

  4. Technology can be an excellent resource to gain access to tools that promote spiritual growth or as you and I are doing now, engaging one another in the Lord (thank you paytonfamily). But as is so correctly stated in the prayer, we are all guilty of using it for our personal entertainment often at the expense of our relationships with God and others. In today’s gospel lesson (Luke 12:39-49), Jesus tells a parable of a servant who became lax in his duties because his master was delayed. I cannot help but wonder if Jesus told that parable using today’s circumstances, what would the servant be doing in not fulfilling his given responsibilities? Jesus told this parable to call you and me to have a spirit of expectation of His intervention as we go forth in fulfilling His will for our lives. For when He comes, either in the next situation or on the Last Day, it is love and only love that will be the order of the day... and we will lie down in perfect peace.

  5. I read this every day without fail. Today's commentary on smartphones is significant. Jesus is delivering me from phone-addiction, and He will transform my spiritual growth path in doing so. Phones are okay but only when secondary to Jesus; He works perfectly and in order.

  6. Good morning from Portland, OR. Have a blessed day brothers and sisters in Christ.

    Audrey Assad Lyrics

    "Restless"

You dwell in the songs that we are singing,
Rising to the Heavens, rising to Your heart, Your heart.
Our praises filling up the spaces
In between our frailty and everything You are
You are the keeper of my heart

    And I'm restless, I'm restless
'Til I rest in You, 'til I rest in You
    I am restless, I'm restless
'Til I rest in You, 'til I rest in You
Oh God, I wanna rest in You

Oh, speak now for my soul is listening
Say that You have saved me, whisper in the dark, the dark.
'Cause I know You're more than my salvation
Without you I am hopeless, tell me who You are
You are the keeper of my heart
You are the keeper of my heart

    And I'm restless, I'm restless
'Til I rest in You, 'til I rest in You
    I am restless, I'm restless

'Til I rest in You, 'til I rest in You, Oh
    I wanna rest in You

Still my heart, hold me close
Let me hear, a still small voice
Let it grow, let it rise
Into a shout, into a cry

Still my heart, hold me close
Let me hear, a still small voice
Let it grow, let it rise
Into a shout, into a cry

And I am restless, I'm restless
'Til I rest in You, let me rest in You
And I am restless, so restless
'Til I rest in You, 'til I rest in You, Oh God
    Let me rest in You.

  7. JC Prayer Warriors - please pray for my dear friend, who is undergoing surgery this morning for Stage I Breast Cancer. May she and the Drs rejoice with wonder and amazement at God's wonderful works. And for my friend who is traveling as I type this to the custody hearing to get the two children out of the dangerous hands of the father.
God is bigger than both of these circumstances. One of my sons sent me a text to read Hebrews 11 as an "excellent account of strong faith that spans over tousands of years. It includes a countless number of incredible examples of how we should shape and expand our own faith inn the here and now." God Bless him for that reminder. I, thankfully, read it. And then read, Sarah's JC, "Depend on Me more and more, and I will shower Peace on all your paths." That is my prayer for all of us and our loved ones. I will report back later today. Expecting Miracles!

  17. CO, thank you for giving me a list of all of the needs. I scrolled up and read each one, and I thank you!
VICTORIES TO SHARE: My friend's surgery went very well. Her husband texted me and said, "No surprises," I said, "Thank you, God!" She will have the results of the biopsy next week, but they got the whole tumor and took 3 lymphnodes.
My friend texted that the Custody Trial went "relatively well." I have no idea what that means, but will find out on Monday.
I don't have news on the Traveling Couple, but trust God, all is well.
I am finally off work - until Monday! Our daughter is traveling in tomorrow (Traveling Mercies, please) to celebrate her 32nd birthday, along with our first Granddaughter's 12th and our newest DIL's ?? All I know is they are all October birthdays. Today, my daughter called and told me about a friend of her's who also had an Oct. Birthday. "Can we invite him to dinner on Sunday, Mom?" "Of course!" Which involves at least another 6-10. The plans for my daughter's visit have changed umpteen times, (she's bringing a girl friend, with a dog; the girl friend's coming, but not the dog; now neither of them are coming!) and I said, "Just get some good sleep and get here! We'll figure the rest out tomorrow (which now isn't happening b/c she's stopping at her brother's and coming in on Saturday). God, give me rest - in all the best ways, to greet my family, refreshed and ready to celebrate.
Praying for all of you with loved ones facing REAL changes.
SUZANNE R.: My husband is a Multiple Myeloma Survivor: 5 years - cancer free. As MadFox said, they've made HUGE strides in this cure (they may not call it a "cure," but, for us, that is what it's been. We go next Tuesday, to hear his 'counts.' So far, they've been non-existent and for that I praise God.
So sorry I'm rambling, JC Family. It's been quite a week, but I'm home and not returning to work until 10/28, and for that I'm thankful. I will get on again tomorrow, to read, to pray, to celebrate, to mourn, to AGREE, to all PRAY, TRUST and give thanks.

  18. THOUGHTS ON INTIMACY WITH OUR LORD

God is listening and inviting us into His work as we pray. Yesterday, I spoke of praying for people. Today, allow me to share thoughts on praying for circumstances and institutions.

At present, we see so many issues in our society, so many ways that people are treating people in ungodly ways. I pray for people who are being treated badly and for those who are inflicting the pain upon them. As is the case in praying for individuals that I spoke of yesterday, in praying for all these needs, my heart becomes enlarged toward them and I begin to feel as God feels about them. Who knows exactly where this will lead me. To begin with, I will have more sensitivity toward people in need and complain less about the troubles that exist because of their need. Because of prayer, when the opportunity presents itself for me to actually do something, I will be ready. In praying for these needs in our culture, I will have hope for a better day because I just talked to the One Who desires unity, wholeness, and peace among all of His children and He will empower all efforts toward that end. So praying for social justice in all the circumstances within our culture, makes me want to play a positive role a midst the negatives that exist. Through prayer, I stand on guard to go into action according to the need, even if it merely means speaking a good word among the negative discussions swirling around me. This is the reason I pray for circumstances and situations that are so in need of the presence of God. Through prayer, I now have a role in God's intervention to bring healing and return wholeness to His creation.

Dearly beloved, there are too many negative voices being heard in our times. Let us pray for all social issues and thus, become committed to making things better as God wills us to do. God be with you. With love, Bob

Praying that those without a conscience with hardened hearts are changed and cease to destroy the righteous, the poor, the sick, the oppressed, and the broken hearted, and with God’s help, turn their hearts to their loving Creator. He can lead them to repentance and redemption just as He led Saul to be His great apostle Paul. All things are possible in Him and through Him. What a wonderful world we could have if the ungodly could be changed from darkness to bright light and from spiritual death to life in Christ!

  19. Norah specifically, but to all my JC friends as well. I awoke due to some meds and now know it was providential not coincidental. Reading and praying for others in the blog, I read Norahs anonymous post above from last year. It's a small world because the rarity of multiple myeloma (MM) means I have a connection to Norah in a new way now. My diagnosis is confirmed as the blood cancer disease MM. I do not want to make this about me or my path forward as I believe God will provide me with opportunities to share anecdotes of His love and His light shining in... but have to tell you He is working in amazing and mysterious ways already. I am so blessed to have pet and cat scans that were normal and that was the secondary tests that were done on Thursday. This was the great news I mentioned. Back to bed. Peace.

  21. FROM LUKE 1 All this will be because the Mercy of our God is very tender, and Heaven's dawn is about to break open upon us to give us light, to guide our walk on His path of peace, and to give rest to our souls!

    BEACH DEVOTION : POOLSIDE RETREAT
With the sun beaming down on our face, and droplets of perspiration rolling down our cheeks, we are smiling and exuberant from spending a day on the beach while on vacation from our ordinary work life!
Even on a relaxing beach vacation, we get exhausted and sticky from the salty blend of sweat and seawater. Although we are  truly enjoying ourselves with beach play, it is time for a break from our work break on the beach.
With its crystal blue clorinatingly clean water and a lounger right in front of  a fan, the pool area by our condo is beckoning. So we trade the sandy ocean bottom for the concrete pool bottom because we need a respite.
Likewise, when we are working at our jobs, in our ministries, in our homes, etc., though enjoyable, like fatigued beach revelers, we too need a rest. Rest is a worthy way to extend our energies and imitate God on His 7th day. When God is calling us to rest like a pool retreat does, then we need to go to wherever that restful place is for us. With God's help, imitate Him and find a sanctuary where His purifying waters wash, cool and cleanse us. Retreating to a restful place with Him will refresh our mind and restore our soul. Once pleasantly refreshed, we can get back out there on a beach that is bursting with glorious action, renewed in Him, by Him, and for Him.

FROM PSALM 84 How lovely is Your Dwelling Place, O Lord of Heavenly Hosts! My soul longs to enter into Your Sanctuary and come near to the living God!

    MY PRAYER FOR US
    Dear Heavenly Father God,
Would You show us an enduring place to retreat alone with You and rest in Your Presence? Would You lead us to a sanctuary where we receive and are replenished with Your steady care? Would you relax, restore, refill and renew us with fresh energy? In Jesus' Name I ask. I seek. I knock. I praise. I thank. Amen

  22. Loving Father, Thank You for new day to say THANK YOU again. I am grateful to You for family, friends and all whom You put in my path to be a blessing to. I depend on You to grant me the courage, boldness, and enthusiasm, to never shy away from Your purpose for my life, but reach out and grab hold of every opportunity to help someone find hope, peace and faith in You. Thank You for Your grace to do just that in Jesus’ name, amen.

The Almighty Creator of this universe knows every need and watches over every single vulnerable person on earth. One of His many ways of showing care for the disadvantages is by blessing bothers to be a blessing to someone in need. The scripture says:“It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35). As Christians, God has call us to pour ourselves out for others whether we are appreciated or not and there are so many scriptural verses to this (Isaiah 58:10, Matthew 10:8, Isaiah 25:4, Proverbs 29:7, Deuteronomy 15:11, Leviticus 25:35 etc..). Helping others is one of the many ways God sets apart His church in this world. Our walk with Him promises Peace, a peace that surpassing all our understanding. Helping others to find this peace in areas of their lives, brings blessings to their situation and glorifies God. If our Master, Christ Jesus gave His life in service to others, how can we do anything less? He told us that by our love for one another the world will know that we’re His. When we witness, help and serve others, we are actually serving our Lord and Master, Jesus Christ and our reward comes from only Him! As we lie down in green pastures of Peace with our Lord, may we bring others along the journey too.

Dear Father, Please lead us into good works as we conform our lives to the wisdom of the biblical scriptures You gave to guide us, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

    Blessings and Peace.

  28. "Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." (Matthew 11:28-30). Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, He said to them, "Come with Me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest." (Mark 6:31). Then He said to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. (Mark 2:27). In peace I will lie down and sleep, for You alone, LORD, make me dwell in safety. (Psalm 4:8). You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in You. (Isaiah 26:3). The LORD replied, "My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest." (Exodus 33:14).

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your holy Presence and perfect peace and rest You provide for me. Thank You for reminding me that in this busy world I do not need to be ashamed of resting in Your Presence. You are my salvation and my saving grace. I can't do anything apart from You. I need You and I depend on You for everything. Help me to always keep You first and foremost in every aspect of my life. Let me always look to You in all things and not to the things or others in this world. I praise You Lord. You are so wonderful. You are God Almighty -- the One and Only! Let Your living word flow continuously through me as I walk through the day with You. Hold my hand and guide and direct me along the path You have prepared for me. Let the Holy Spirit control the direction of my steps and when I speak, let the words be those of the Spirit. I surrender myself and all that I have to You Lord. I am Yours and You are mine. We are one. Align our spirits together as one. Reveal all the joys and pleasures of Your heart and let me share them with You. Place kindness, humility, and love into all our hearts and help us share with each other in the world. Magnify my love and faith in You and let it grow even stronger in me every moment of every day. Thank You Jesus. You are the best Father ever! I depend on You for everything, including my very next breath. You complete me. I'm nothing without You. Thank You for being in my life. Open my eyes, heart, and mind to receive all that You have for me. In Jesus name, I pray, Amen.

  31. We are all facing challenges of some kind but we’ll be okay because God’s peace is still there through everything. He has the last say because He is in charge. Taking my Mom to the Doctor today. She made it quite clear that if he sends her to another doctor she won’t go. My Mom is so stubborn so getting her the help she needs is really difficult. God knows this so I’m trusting in His help today. Thanking Him for turning this day into a victory for all of us who sincerely trust in His Way.
    Thank You Jesus.

Yesterday as i was scrolling through the date I saw posts about my daughter with thanksgiving for her chemo results, and a thanksgiving after benign brain tumor removal for me. God’s faithfulness during very difficult times was evident across the years. My anxiety about current events does not bless God or help me. I need to be reminded that He is consistent and cares and is with my family at all times. Please pray that my daughter’s check up about an enlarged lymph node is not cancer, and that my son in law can re-enter the workplace smoothly with a job that suits him. thank you so much! 34. Reading through all the contributions to today's Jesu Calling, it's a real blessing to see all the scriptures and comments on the Peace which is available alone through the Prince of Peace.
"And the peace that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6b.
When our heart and mind is in turmoil it is difficult to stop, calm down and regain peace.
This morning in the dark early hours while still half asleep I committed my day and all it will contain to Him.
Later, on waking up properly, so many unpeaceful things crowded into my thoughts, that I just had to get up and get busy with breakfast to divert my attention from these thoughts.
Talking to my Lord all the time, asking for His help, at last I was able to quieten down and come aside to be alone with Him.
As I closed the door to this quiet room, I heard "God is Faithful". The wonderful sense of His Peace then swept down upon me. God is faithful always.

So anyway, here goes.. My brother and his wife moved their 3 children to Florida about a year ago, after finding out that an older child in her extended family was being sexually inappropriate with them.
My mom and I took my brothers kids over the weekend, to give them a break and get the cousins together. After getting home my 5 year old told me his cousin ( 6 yrs) cousin was making inappropriate requests and advances on him.. .. God please be with my brother as he faces this.. please show him you love and strength, even though he has turned away from you, Lord ,I know that you love him. Help him to fight for his children to get the help that they need, regardless of how anyone feels about it.. Protect those babies. Please Godremind him of who you made him to be. Show him your grace. Please help them to find the right therapists to be able to help.. Thank you everyone for allowing me to use your platform to share. It's to heavy on my own.. I ask for all the prayers for my brother and his family.. ty

  39. Good Morning, JC Family. I am asking for prayers for 4 people who are dear to me: Lloyd - Dr. found tumors on his liver and pancreas. He says if they suggest treatment, he will refuse it. Paula - has been intubated since Oct 5th; they are extubating her tomorrow or Wed and will then provide 'comfort care.' She has been sick for years and her only sister cares for her. Both are in need of prayer. Pat - dear friend who lost her only sister: prayers of comfort and my 'other' Pat: healing of her colon, answers to her legal issues; acceptance of God's goodness; she needs a car has been "trapped" at home since Sept.
Thank you for believing with me for miracles and answers.

  40. A Dear Friend sent this to me and The Holy Spirit asked me to relay it to you who may also be walking through the Valley on the Way to Greener Pastures.
Remember Today’s Scripture, When you walk through the Valley of Weeping. It will become a place of refreshing springs.” (Psalm 84:6)

    REFRESHING SPRINGS
When you face opposition and things don’t go your way, recognize that it’s NOT permanent. That’s NOT your final destination. Quit worrying about things that are only temporary—the betrayal, the injustice, the loneliness. That’s NOT your permanent home. It’s a TEMPORARY stop. The psalmist wrote of passing through the Valley of Weeping, not settling or getting stuck there. The valley is temporary; you’re passing THROUGH IT.

You may have a dream that you’ve buried and given up on. Maybe you’re going through a valley right now, something you don’t understand. Maybe you’re on a detour right now, going through something that is very discouraging. The challenge is to quit losing sleep over a temporary stop. Quit being stressed out over something that’s only for a season; it’s NOT permanent. You’re just passing through what will lead you to a place of refreshing springs. The right people, the right opportunities, the healing, the vindication, the restoration are headed your way. Dreams you’ve buried will be coming back to life.

    A Prayer for Today
“Father, thank You that You have seen every tear I’ve shed and every dark valley I’ve walked through. Thank You that the valley is only temporary and that I just need to walk in faith through it. I believe that where You lead me will take me to refreshing springs and restoration. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

  48. Stopped by today to visit with my friends, to receive from the Lord, and also to share.

Before reading JC today, I sat outside to soak in the sun and in centering prayer. As I soaked, I meditated on many truths He has told me over the years; in essence, devoloping new patterns of thinking.

I have been off work for a few months now, since Father's Day weekend. 1 of the things the Lord has said to me, (through a prophetic friend) was to stop trying to provide for myself and to let Him provide.

That directive goes against what we often practice in our Western culture but it also brings me peace. As I may have shared before, He also said that it would take "a long time" to heal from years of pushing and in essence, abusing myself.

As I sat in the warming sunlight, and in the warmth of His loving truths, I discover an enjoyment of the present moment. And that enjoyment is me resting in the green pastures.

I have found these words of God, given to a friend, to be key to finding rest and fulfillment...

My child, when you see yourself as I see you, you will have a whole new level of Life, Love, and Joy. See yourself without judgemental and sadness, but see yourself with growth and Love.

These words are different than what we perceive or have learned in our Western culture but they are complimentary to what is taught in his living Word. Blessings
