Jesus Calling: January 10

Every time you affirm your trust in Me, you put a coin into My treasury. Thus you build up equity in preparation for days of trouble. I keep safely in My heart all trust invested in Me, with interest compounded continuously. The more you trust Me, the more I empower you to do so.
Practice trusting Me during quiet days, when nothing much seems to be happening. Then when storms come, your trust balance will be sufficient to see you through. Store up for yourself treasure in heaven, through placing your trust in Me. This practice will keep you in My Peace.
Psalm 56:3-4
English Standard Version
When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?

Matthew 6:20-21
English Standard Version
...but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Personal reflection
Why do we trust the Lord? Because he made us, saved us, and sanctifies us. He knows me. As I learn to trust Him more my days of trouble lessen. I don't think that means I will go through less trials necessarily, but how I view bumps in the road will be different.

My Prayer
Lord, thank you for yesterday and providing better work habits for me. Thank you for providing 3 people at the Way of the Master class. Lord, it is just the number I need. Like Fred said, it will be nice to have a small group discussion and work through these ideas together. Challenge me Lord in this process. I want You to expand my witness so talking to people about You and representing You is a part of my entire life and not just something I do when I sign on the computer or when I walk in the doors of a shopping center with Bobby to strike up spiritual conversations with people. I do not want the Gospel to be a part of my life; I want it to be my life.

Lord, trust is something Karl has been recognizing and I pray that you would help him to trust You with his life. Sink that desire in him to lean on you and believe Lord that you can sustain his life and provide him with what his soul and life desires. Trust builds upon itself. Give Karl understanding of this so that he can defeat the demons raging in him.

Lord, this is simple. It should be simple to trust You and yet it goes against my training in the world that I control my own destiny, that I'm in charge.

Show me Lord more each day what are those treasures in heaven. And then re-prioritize my life so my focus is on those treasures and building them up.

  3. Unfortunately, in times of trouble, we tend to focus on how we can move as quickly past the problem as we can. I am finding that the "treasure in heaven" doesn't seem to be sufficient for weathering the current storm. That is why we must have faith that His timing is perfect and our's is flawed. "I put my trust in you," is the wisdom of the Psalmist and how to move past our fears.

    1. Yes! MadFox, in times of trouble, we tend to focus on how we can move as quickly past the problem as we can...
I am guilty of moving so quickly, the problem lacks resolution and is still there, just hidden under a rug where I will trip over it again and again, until I accept His Way and His Timing. Jesus I trust You. Jesus Please Help Me. Jesus Thy Will Be Done. Amen.

    2. Amen to that! We would like the dark clouds to disperse as fast as possible so we will again be warmed and lifted by the bright sun and SON. Sometimes it is necessary for those dark and difficult days to last long enough for us to realize we can do absolutely nothing without Jesus. We hold on so much tighter to His Hand in times of trouble and He offers us comfort and understanding. In His presence, we can rejoice even in the dark days when His light seems even brighter in the darkness. He is always the light in and at the end of the tunnel. Patience, Hope, Trust and Gratitude.

  4. I was just listening to a talk last night, and the speaker said "time is NOT our enemy" "time is our friend". Patience and waiting is a struggle for many of us. Waiting, and having trust AND faith gets us though to a positive outcome. My spiritual director once told me that when we pray, God has three possible answers 1. Yes, 2. No, 3. Wait, I have something better planned for you! I often pray for YES, not knowing that on Gods timing and path there might be something better, than my short-sightedness.
Dear Lord, help me to let my story unfold as you see fit, help me to be patient. Give me the strength to wait, and let my story, as you have written only for me, unfold, so that I may receive your blessings. Amen

      Dear Heavenly Father God,
Please teach me to be patient, teach me to go slow,
Teach me how to wait on You for the way I am to go.
Teach me sweet forbearance until things go alright
Teach me to remain calm and peaceful until I see Your Light.

Teach me peace and  quiet and how to calm my heart
So I might hear the answer You are trying to impart.
Teach me to let go, dear God, and pray hopefully until
Both my heart and mind are filled with Your Peace and I know and do your will.

  5. Developing the “trust muscle” within our soul is similar to developing the muscles of our body. For example, if we want to have greater leg strength, there are helpful exercises when done over a period of time will increase the strength in our legs. As our legs get stronger, it will be necessary to maintain that strength by keeping up some form of the exercise that got us there for if we cease doing anything, the muscles will atrophy and return to the way they were. The “trust muscles” in the soul are strengthened through repeated acts of trust as suggested in today’s reading. As strengthening a bodily muscle takes place over time so too will the strengthening of the “trust muscles”. As Paul wrote to Timothy, physical exercise is of some value but spiritual exercise has eternal value (I Timothy 4:8). As a new year begins, let us seek greater bodily health but even more so, let us seek spiritual health which has everlasting ramifications. God be with you.

  6. Bob, I like the symbolism of "trust muscles". As challenges go beyond the time frame that we believe is reasonable, the ability to trust that the Lord is in control of the timing gets "easier" with the advantage of retrospect. Our challenge is remembering that the Lord has indeed delivered us at the "right" time so many times before. Lord help us to remember how previously, you resolved other troubled times in Your perfect timing. Amen

  14. I sat in Luke 5:12-16 this AM, the story of the leper who came to Jesus and pleaded, "Lord, if You wish, You can make me clean." Jesus responded as he had hoped (and as we would hope), "I do will it. Be made clean." Obviously, there was a level of trust there. Or is it when we are in a momentary crisis, the natural response is to cry out for help regardless of the trust level? If we can follow the admonition of today's reading and learn to trust day by day and moment by moment, would we being crying out when issues come along? Or would we simply snuggle up to our Heavenly Father knowing that sitting in His lap, we are totally safe no matter what is going on around us? Having that kind of faith does not happen instantaneously as the healing of the leper did. It is a gradual growth through crawling into the Father's lap each and every day, moment by moment until it becomes a habit of the soul...like breathing is to the body. He does will it and that is good news my beloved friends! God be with you!

Thank you for all of your reminders of how loving, patient and Trust worthy our Lord is. Beyond our imagination. I appreciated " the trust muscle" analogy further stating that repeated acts of trust builds trust, that trust builds upon trust. I love the visual of what may be a difficulty or a challenge turning into a building up and strengthening process instead. God always turns everything on its head. Redirecting our thoughts to positive spaces if we allow him to work within us. Glory to God! He continues to build us and perfect us in His timing.

"Whoever trusts in his own mind is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered” (Proverbs 28:26 ).

"For we walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Cor. 5:7)

"With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible’ (Matt. 19:26).

"Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you’ (1 Peter 5:6-7).

"You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast because they trust in you’ (Isaiah 26:3).

"Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall, but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint”(Isaiah 40:28-31).....and the list goes on and on.

  21. Dear Heavenly Father God. I am affirming my trust in You even in the dark. I am saddened by all the raw unfiltered unadulterated hate that seems to have reached one of its apexes in glorifying satan who had its way on one of Your celebratory Days known as King's Day.
The satan induced hate did not just spring up like a weed. It was planted long ago, nursed and nurtured and consistently cultivated and perpetuated over a long period of time in little and big ways. We only saw a part of the festering sore. The part that oozed out. Now that I see where hate leads, Lord, I am asking You to completely identify everything I hate. No matter how hard it is for me to admit hate, would You please ignore my fences, defenses, reasons and justifications and Make me list all things, people, groups, foods, colors, flowers, animals, etc until the list is complete and includes any and everything that I hate. OUCH! Only You will see it and You already know it. I'd prefer to do it now than at The Gate and I want to be free of being outsmarted by satan, the root of all hate. We know what it is trying to do. Would You keep us from letting it, keep us bound and gagged in hate?
Then Lord, as affirmation of trust in You, I give You total permission to remove each and every hate, as I offer You perfect submission while You are taking all hate away from me. Since hate is not like Thee, please take hate away from me. Yes. I do fear the gaping holes that could be left as a result of your incisions, but I am learning to trust You in the dark. I ask You to fill up the spaces with Your Goodness, Your Fruit, Your Gifts, and replace Yourself in all the holes.
Today's JC Devotion said Every time you affirm your trust in Me, you put a coin into My treasury. Please accept my "widow's mite"
I ask. I seek. I knock. I praise. I thank. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

  28. I have had two “Jesus Calling” books for years. I recently gave one who my Daughter, who is so lost. However, for the past year, I have been reading from your blog and sending it to my Daughters and Grandson, every day. I had demons to defeat and I did it, in large part by reading your Jesus Calling and passing it along every day and working on another Bible study ap. I used to be a Sunday School Teacher and I found myself years later, being taunted by powerful demons and more lost than I could ever imagine. Thank you for sharing with us. Today, my faith is stronger than it has ever been and it’s going to continue to get stronger. As I mentioned, my Daughter is now facing demons and I’m terrified every day that they are going to win. Through faith, my terror is subsiding and faith is replacing that useless emotion. So thank you again! I was wondering what the “Master Class” is, and is it available to the public? God Bless! Kelly. Praying for my family and the division that threatens us is gone, in the name of Jesus Christ. Thank you for continued health, grace upon grace and no stone left unturned when it comes to the Truth being seen. Praying for you, dear Maplewood, as you heal from your procedure, knowing that you are in His hands. Praying for your daughter LQA - that God's healing is more powerful than any virus. Praying for all of my "J's" as LQA said....love to all of you. And, for you, MadFox - CARRY ON! In your healing, in your witness to all you encounter. Praying for you and your family. Need a 'catch up' on where you are in your treatments. Just know that my Hub and I pray for you, every, single day!

  36. Read all of the past blog postings for today while praying as some say on the "night watch." This night session was due to a coughing spell at 230 a.m. Later this morning, I will head to my 2nd of the month infusion but also my monthly visit with the oncologist. We'll review the blood test results from blood drawn at last Monday's infusion.

I read above, where ABC (post in 2019) said God has 3 possible responses to our prayers: Yes, or no, or WAIT. Having just come through Christmas and Advent, we read in scripture of Israel's prophets going silent for hundreds of years as they wait for a Messiah. In God's answer to "wait", His Son arrives via Mary, and, of course, He is NOT what was expected!

In thinking more about this personally, God has used "wait" far more than I realized in my life. And in the world of fighting cancer, "wait" is the norm on most everything. From doc visits to treatments to test results to the time necessary to get to remission... or not. For me, the "trust muscle" (Bob's post in 2019) of waiting is truly a test of faith. I have had a business and personal life where answers were mostly controllable and in an acceptable timeline. God has used the current medical challenges to build my trust in waiting for answers, and thereby my faith.

In reading the wisdom of many on this blog, all of us need to realize that not all of the answers we WANT will be "yes"... in fact, most of the answers for now will be "wait" (anyone been in a global pandemic!?!). With the recent holiday season showing us how Mary waited for the birth of Jesus with incredible faith. And then 30+ years later, the Apostles showing the exact opposite (nearly no faith), while waiting for 3 days in despair, before being shown Jesus truly was the Son of God! Hallelujah! Let us realize that waiting is the norm, and strengthens our faith in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. AMEN!

    2. Ahhh yes, waiting. Not so good at it, truth be told. I'm in the wait mode now. Blood pressure on the rise, TMJ, left knee acting up, sinus issues, allergies. My body recoils when winter comes. I need to be a "snowbird" & winter somewhere warm. But alas! When I read about what you are waiting for dear MadFox, I become more thankful at the state I'm in. You once again have inspired me to wait patiently. Strength shall be my reward as demonstrated by your testimony. Thank you brother for reminding me. Bless your day in immeasurable ways🙏💕

    3. I'm hearing a 🎶 chorus from Tom Petty...
"… The waiting is the hardest part
Every day you get one more yard
You take it on faith, you take it to the heart
The waiting is the hardest part
Yeah, the waiting is the hardest part"

    4. Dear MadFox, Waiting is a big part of my life. The pandemic has a lot to do with it. I understand that through your medical trials, you have had to wait for everything and God has been with you through the waiting. I'm waiting to see my dear ones. My son Bryan and his pregnant wife had to cancel their trip to spend Christmas with us. Now my sister is sick and had to cancel her trip to be with me and my Mom. But I trust in God's timing. There are important reasons for the waiting. God is protecting my love ones and my sister needs to rest and heal. I'm waiting on the Lord for my son Dylan and his wife Erica to show any love for Jesus. I put that in His Hands. My son Greg has actually been talking about the life of Jesus so I have had some prayers answered. If only he will go back to Church with dear Mayra. God wants us to be patient in prayer. Longsuffering is a fruit of the spirit that I must remain aware of when waiting gets tought.
Yep Jan, I'm not good at it either. Praying for your blood pressure to get lower and for healing of your knee and your sinuses and allergies. Amen, MadFox is walking a far steeper hill than we are and he is indeed an inspiration.
Dear Audra, I love that song too. May God give us all strength and peace in our time of waiting. Thank You Jesus

  37. Covering you in prayer MadFox🙏

I was reading the order day how the waiting is important as God prepares the way ahead for us. I figure It’s like when you come upon a point in the road where they are doing some work ahead of you. There’s usually a man with a sign that that regulates traffic. He stops you for a few moments while you WAIT for things to clear up so that you can safely travel on your journey. But how many times do we sit there impatiently because we have an agenda, instead of just letting life unfold and trust that it’s all part of the journey? I Believe that it’s in these moments where we have to surrender and implicitly trust God that we gain the strength and wisdom to be set free. As Park said, His power is made perfect in our weakness!

Peace is not the absence of problems, but the presence of Christ. Have a blessed day y’all!
    Shalom🙏

  38. Wonderful reading today on Trust. I love Bob's analogy on the "Trust muscle". Seems to me there's another 'Muscle' that needs exercising, that is 'Patience'.
To be honest I find the Patience 'muscle' one of the hardest to exercise and my patience 'muscle' needs a lot of exercise.
Waiting in patience is not idle time, it's a time of preparation: Expectant mothers know all about patience, the nine months must be waited out. Farmers too know a lot about patience; planting the corn, waiting for harvest, the corn won't ripen overnight. Fishermen also know much about patience; waiting for the tide and weather conditions to be right before launching out to sea. Those who fish for Salmon need to wait patiently for the Salmon run (so too do the bears).
As well as scriptures on trust, the Bible contains many verses on Patience for as I see it, Trust and Patience go hand in hand as do Grace and Mercy.
A definition of Patience: 'To endure without complaint'. Oh, boy! 'Without Complaint', that's another whole issue. "Lord please forgive me for impatience and a complaining attitude".
    Three scriptures on Patience:
Hebrews. 12:1–2 " Let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith”.
Psalm 37:7 " Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes."
1 Corinthians 13:4 "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud."
So I reaffirm my trust in the Lord; "Jesus I Trust You', also 'Lord, please grow patience in me. I need to wait patiently for you and your timing without complaining" Amen.

I'm with you about the complaining. I tend to react to a situation too quickly and have to catch myself right in the act of complaining. I sure need that Patience. When I was having a hard time in the kitchen yesterday and started to complain, I caught myself and said: Lord, I know you are with me. And then everything went better. Love that old song too Peter! 45. 'When you decide on a course of action that is in line with My will, nothing in heaven or on earth can stop you.'
Being in, walking in, God's Will is the most satisfying, peace filling, joyous way of life.
There are times when we know we're in it, times we hope we're in it, and times we know we're not in it.
Praying to, desiring to, know God's Will usually does not result in a panorama or vista opening out for us to see our way forward.
For me and probably most of us, it's asking daily "Thy Will be done in my life today" it's telling Him "I want to walk daily in Your Will", then expecting that He will lead according to His Will.
With many decades of experience with my Lord, I KNOW He will only lead according to His Will, so I am more relaxed.
As a younger man I would agonize over being in His Will, especially in the larger decisions; my career/vocation, is the woman I love the one to marry, what is Your calling on my life, should I study for the ministry, should we go to the mission field? etc, etc. I wish I knew Him then, like I know Him now!

Sometimes we are like Jonah, we know His Will but don't want to do it. However God has a way anyway, of turning us around 180° aligning us with His Will just like Jonah; only most of us don't get to be swallowed up by a great fish!

    Psalm 25:4-5
    Show me your ways, Lord,
    teach me your paths.
Guide me in your truth and teach me,
for you are God my Savior,
and my hope is in you all day long.

    Psalm 25:8-9
    Good and upright is the Lord;
therefore he instructs sinners in his ways.
He guides the humble in what is right
    and teaches them his way.

    Psalm 119:105
Your word is a lamp for my feet,
    a light on my path.

    Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
    and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.

    Proverbs 19:21
Many are the plans in a person’s heart,
but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.

    Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

    Psalm 63
1 You, God, are my God,
    earnestly I seek you;
    I thirst for you,
my whole being longs for you,
in a dry and parched land
    where there is no water.
2 I have seen you in the sanctuary
and beheld your power and your glory.
3 Because your love is better than life,
    my lips will glorify you.
4 I will praise you as long as I live,
and in your name I will lift up my hands.
    5 I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods;
with singing lips my mouth will praise you.
    6 On my bed I remember you;
I think of you through the watches of the night.
7 Because you are my help,
I sing in the shadow of your wings.
    8 I cling to you;
    your right hand upholds me.

A good hymn to sing at this time of a new year is "Take my life and let it be, consecrated Lord to Thee....."
    5th stanza is:
    "Take my will and make it thine;
it shall be no longer mine.
    Take my heart it is thine own;
it shall be thy royal throne,
it shall be thy royal throne.

  49. Some things to remember in trusting God:
    *God is reliable:
    1 Corinthians 1:9 AMPC
God is faithful (reliable, trustworthy, and therefore ever true to His promise, and He can be depended on); by Him you were called into companionship and participation with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

    *God doesn't lie:
    Numbers 23:19
God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act. Does he promise and not fulfill?

*God means what He says and says what He means:
    Hebrews 4:12-13-12-13 MSG
God means what he says. What he says goes. His powerful Word is sharp as a surgeon’s scalpel, cutting through everything, whether doubt or defense, laying us open to listen and obey. Nothing and no one can resist God’s Word. We can’t get away from it—no matter what.

*God IS Omnipotent - unlimited in power in any direction and dimension that exists:
    Revelation 19:6
And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, as the sound of many waters and as the sound of mighty thunderings, saying, “Alleluia! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns!”

Psalm 56:3 When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.
    When in doubt Trust Him.
    When fearful Trust Him.
    When overwhelmed Trust Him.
When grieving and bereaved Trust Him.
When the sun is shining, the birds are singing and it's a wonderful glorious day Trust Him.
Tell Him 'Lord Jesus I Trust You'

    1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

    Psalm 100:4
Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.

  56. Asking for prayers for a friend of a friend who is undergoing surgery this afternoon for what they think is a bone eating bacteria. They did tests yesterday and found he's mysteriously missing two vertebrae in his nick. No idea how it happened. His name is Charlie.

  57. At this stage in life I can say I trust God, I trust the God of my salvation, my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I trust my Heavenly Father who dwells in unapproachable light. I trust the precious Holy Spirit, it is He who leads me in all Truth.
I don't trust perfectly, I know that very well. My trust level can seesaw from 100% to zero almost instantly, then back up again.
But the moment something happens that causes trust to drop, Prayer kicks in.
That, by now at my age and lifetime of experiencing God in my life, is an automatic response.
This is where we, who have been on the Agape Road for many years, can influence and encourage younger generations and those still babes in Christ in their faith.
We have countless experiences to recount where God came through. When He answer prayer, when He comforted us through tragedy, distress. When He provided when we had no food or money to buy food.
A testimony of when God came through: 'Two Chickens for 7 cents': One occasion in the early 80's my wife and I had some vegetables in the house but not enough to make a good meal for our three very active young children. Both out of work, we gathered 50 cents in small change. Hoping to buy a few slices of ham or cooked chicken we went to the store. We looked wistfully at the fresh chickens; looked at the prices. Then to our amazement we saw two chickens priced at 2 cents/kg (2.2lb). Weight of one 1.635kg (3.605lb) price 3 cents, weight of the other 1.830kg (4.03lb) price 4 cents. All other chickens were correctly marked. Taking these two to the cash out and praying fervently, we put them on the counter. The manager was called to check the labels and said, "These are priced incorrectly, it is our mistake, however we are obliged to sell them at the price on the label." God came through with TWO chickens to roast for 7 cents! Even the cost was a perfect number!
I wish we could post photos here; I have kept the labels in my Bible and taken a photo recently in case the labels got lost.
So as an encouragement KEEP trusting God, keep affirming your trust in Him. He is totally trustworthy, He will NEVER let you down. His responses may surprise you but He will always meet your need.

    3. Thanks dear Peter! What a blessing to hear how God made a way for you and your family. No wonder you cherish those two labels. He knows our needs more than we do and He is so faithful!
