Jesus Calling: January 17

Come to Me with a thankful heart,, so that you can enjoy My presence. This is the day that I have made. I want you to rejoice today, refusing to worry about tomorrow. Search for all that I have prepared for you, anticipating abundant blessings and accepting difficulties as they come. I can weave miracles into the most mundane day if you keep your focus on Me.
Come to Me with all your needs, knowing that My glorious riches are a more-than-adequate supply. Stay in continual communication with Me, so that you can live above your circumstances even while you are in the midst of them. Present your requests to Me with thanksgiving, and My Peace, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your heart and mind.
Psalm 118:24
English Standard Version
This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Philippians 4:19
New American Standard
And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7
New American Standard
Be anxious for nothing, anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

My Prayer
Lord, thank you for the class yesterday. It was nice seeing four people there. And I appreciate the words from Harriett she shared about the devotional she had read and the impact one lady had to many people. Lord, it was a great time of sharing our testimonies once again. To hear these folks share them. I had them write them down and they each got emotional sharing. It reminded me of the words from Spurgeon I had read earlier in the day.

Lord, help me and others to focus on today and let it take care of itself and not worry about tomorrow. Lord, help me to focus on You this day. Lord, I listed a bunch of difficulties or worry's in my life yesterday. Lord, I want to direct my hope on You. Help me to not think that answers are found in myself taking control.

This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it. It is a good day because You made it Lord. Thank you for the promise of supplying me with every need. You don't say you will supply me with every want, but every need. Lord, your word tells me not to be anxious. It reminds me that you will guard my heart and mind.

I get tired of seeing my life get my focus off of You and onto myself and what I think I need. I have no need to be anxious or to worry Lord for you are there and you will take care of the situation in your way. I can be confident in You O God.

    1. I have 2 books at home by Sarah and I start each day with a reading from one or both. When I am traveling I so appreciate this site to start my day and remind myself who is in control. I like to thank Jesus each morning for the gift of a new day. A sober day and invite the Holy Spirit to guide, teach, nurture, and reprimand. I live starting my day this way. Thank you

  5. "Come to me with a thankful heart"... Sarah as Jesus gets to the crux of my weaknesses almost everyday. Today is probably going to be another "deja vu" moment as I was not very thankful yesterday or the day before or the day before that! And today, I will deal with some challenging people and situations that are more likely to yield anger...not thankfullness.

So, I'm in a thankless trap of my own making. Yes the Father, Son, and Spirit deserve to be thanked but I find reasons to blame them too. God says that we must have trust and faith to have any chance of defeatimg the Enemy. Trust in Him by thanking Him for all you have. Amen.

  8. From Psalm 119:111-112: "Your decrees are my heritage forever; they are the joy of my heart. I incline my heart to perform your statutes forever, to the end." The reading today emphasizes Jesus bidding of us to "come to Me". This is an orientation of the heart that is good to be done at the beginning of the day and throughout the day. The psalmist practiced this in some way or form. The result for him was his heart was mold to find joy in our Lord alone. Periodically in this blog, people have shared struggles they have with addiction. Addiction comes from continually indulging in a practice that brings pleasure. It can be a practice that is immoral or unhealthy or it can be something socially acceptable. The principle that is in effect is the same, it is the taking of delight or the finding of pleasure in something that becomes one's priority. When it is allowed to increase, it molds the heart into desiring it beyond reason or into great pain for self and others. Each of us has something in our life that we have taken pleasure in beyond what is good for the heart. The need is for a remolding of the heart or as the psalmist has said, "the inclining of the heart" so we take greater pleasure in the love of God over all other pleasures or desires. In repeated practice of this (daily and moment by moment) over time, our heart will become increasingly inclined and finding pleasure in God alone, causing all other pleasures to shrivel up and ultimately die. Those demonic pleasure will not go away without an effort to stay alive within us, especially when they see they are being forced out of our hearts by the love of God. As they did with Jesus in the wilderness, they may look for a more opportune time to influence us. But by the habitually "come to Me" being practiced, their demise is inevitable. So in case of a setback, hear again His loving voice saying, "come to Me" and come. It is good to be with you this morning, I needed to be here.

  9. Great thoughts. Bob is absolutely "on point" here with regard to addictions. It is my experience (but certainly supported by statistics from A.A.) that it is nearly impossible for an addiction that has a person spiraling down with failed relationships, drug overdoses, homelessness, and ultimately death to escape... without God.

The 12 step program and other recovery programs all center on recognizing a higher power and supplanting the source of addiction with the power of love from God, your family, and most importantly, yourself. ALL HAVE FALLEN SHORT -- so loving yourself and all your weaknesses is possible because GOD LOVED YOU FIRST and ALWAYS will - if he can LOVE you, then you need to accept that YOU can be loved in this fallen world. Godspeed, and let's lift up those that have bravely acknowledged their addictions here.

There is no thing I can do or have done that will make Him love me less. Although I struggle with truly believing I am worthy to be called a child of God - in my heart, I do know. 💕

    2. If indeed we could do something to separate ourselves from God’s Love for us that would mean we are stronger than God. Let’s not go there. You are a child of God; always have been, always will be; you are a child of God!!!

  14. What a beautiful day this is and I am truly rejoicing in HIM! I have gone to church this morning on this blog at 5:18 AM on a Friday. Oh what PEACE we often forfeit, oh what needless pain we bear, all because we do not carry everything to GOD in prayer! I know that my day is going to be GREAT! All of you are in my prayers and I know GOD is smiling because we have gathered together in HIS NAME to worship HIM! My husband recently celebrated 27 years of being clean and sober and in a lot of ways I celebrated with him. He was addicted to his drug of choice and I chose to make HIM my drug of choice. Long story short we opened our hearts and invited Jesus in and our lives have never been the same. Truly I agree there is NO LIFE WITHOUT CHRIST, he is the missing piece (PEACE) in our pain to recover from whatever our IT is! May each of you have a blessed beyond measure day and I pray GOD will exceed your expectations as he meets every need!

  17. This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it!! I'm very thankful for this place that we all gather at some point during our day. All of us us are here because we need one another to lean on and find help or to celebrate what is going on in our lives. I am a daily reader even though I don't comment very often. I appreciate all of of you that do reply daily. I am able to find a bit of peace and comfort. Some of you may remember that I wrote a while back regarding the death of my 34 yr old daughter (5/20/19) to liver disease, my 2 sisters aged 53 (9/20/18) & (1/30/19) and 63 as well as my mother 89yr old who passed October 15th, 2019.
All of these deaths were within a years time. I'm the 3rd child of 14 from the same mother and father. Monday I celebrated my 66th birthday. I'm now the legal Guardian of my 13 yr old granddaughter. I have many financial hardships that I'm struggling to pay. As I move forward in my healing journey, I humbly ask for all of you to pray along side me that I am able trust in Father God above that every little thing will be alright. I lift all of my problems up to Him knowing that He will find a way even though I can't see a way. I am learning to rest in Him and let Him show me peace beyond my understanding. I pray that I may be able to rise up above all the issues trying to pull me down. I sing His praises and give thanks to God even though I'm in the midst of great turmoil in my life. I know that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Thank you again for all of your prayers and support. May God Bless us all today and always, Amen and Amen. ♥️

  19. I am always moved when in scripture I encounter the first word in today's reading, "Come...", which draws upon Jesus words in Matthew 11:28-30. To say to someone "come" is to extend an open invitation which then the one to whom the invitation is extended has the option of accepting or declining. Contrast this with some of the ways we ask or demand people to do what we say, for example to children, "get over here and now". In that verbiage there is no space for choice, one better or else. Another good example God inviting us into His presence is found in Psalm 95, historically, the invitatory psalm spoken at the beginning of the day. Vs. 1: O come, let us sing to the LORD; vs 6: O come, let us worship and bow down, let us kneel before the LORD our Maker! Our Lord and Savior invites us into His heart where we can rest in "My Loving Presence", as stated above. The choice is ours; we don't have to but the greater question is, "Why wouldn't we want to?" Anyone have a good reason? JC Family, come, let us enter the Father's heart arm in arm as one. God be with you.

My whole life I suffered because I was separated from Source, living as an undiagnosed spiritual seeker. The most beautiful blessing of recovery has been to show my 4.5 year old daughter how to have a conscious contact. And boy does she! It’s like living with a little Zen master. She is so plugged in. 3. I concur with Brie and Janet, Maplewood, an absolutely wonderful and needed prayer this morning! So beautifully stated. Thank you!

When I allow worry to work it's way into my mind and spirit, I now try my hardest to remind myself about God with the sparrows. That he supplies the birds with all they need and that there isn't a sparrow that hits the ground without him knowing. Keeping this in the forethought of my mind when worry is trying to wedge it's way in helps keep that worry out. Finding joy even in a trial is so necessary for me. It's almost like a fence or hedge of protection keeping that worry at bay knowing that, like the birds of the air, God is with me and is bringing me through.

*On a side note, I was putting out my dog early this morning and the sky was just glorious. It was as if pink cotton stretched endlessly across a very sky-blue background. And while I didn't feel any anxiousness as I started out the day, just seeing that sky made me exhale and a sense of calm washed over me. It was awesome.

      Blessings one and all!

    4. Thanks for sharing and reminding us to look up, NJS!
Today, it finally dawned on me something my parents repeated over and over when we were kids. "You don't fight nor return nor conquer evil by choosing evil; you use good to conquer evil." As a child I thought: ????????? Does that mean I have to take the last hit or swallow the last word? Finally, decades later, I put away those childish thoughts when it dawned on me as brightly and beautifully as your sky, NJS, that our earthly parents were advising us to Choose God and His Goodness over satan and its evils. To give the Upper Hand to The One and Only God Who really loves us and has a Heaven to put us in when this life is over. Today I will practice making that choice in all situations. Pray for me to The Lord our God.

    6. PROGRESS NOTES: Right after I posted, I started taking DH's vitals. I asked, have you taken your meds, breathing treatment, eye drops? He said "No". satan said blow your top; but God whispered, Offer to go get his meds, drops and Anoro, and some water to take them with. WHEW! With God's help and nudging, I chose God and His Goodness over satan and its evils. I chose to give the Upper Hand to The One and Only God Who really loves us.
The burden of nursing when I am a non-nurse, became lighter. Thank You Jesus. And thanks for beginning my baby steps toward understanding choosing good and your Yoke thingy. Thanks for your constant prayers JC Family.

  27. Good morning, JC followers. I am a baby JC follower and struggle sharing with others what God puts on my heart. However, Friday evening I was given the opportunity to share the gospel with my husband of 25 years. I am God's vessel for planting and He is the harvester. Friends, I ask you to pray for us both. May the seed take root and grow into a glorious life of loving God. May I remember that no amount of manipulation and pushing and trying to be someone else's Holy Spirit will ever bring someone to Christ. God, he is yours. I pray for his heart to be softened. Amen

  35. Good morning dear family. Asking for prayers for myself. Went for my wellness test yesterday. My doctor informed me that my 9/2021, ( notice, 2021) kidney panel revealed that my gfr ( kidneyfunction) tested at 70 when it should be 99. I literally fell through the crack. She didn't tell me or retested me in 2022. So I am now stage 2 renal disease. Regardless, I give all this to the Lord. I will not stay in the alarm mode with this news. He is in charge even when the medical field let me down. He will never let me down. I put my trust fully in Him. Hallelujah!

    2. I am heartbroken to hear this. You trusted your doctor and for her to neglect to test your kidney function all last year after a bad result in 2021 is just terrible. But if there's one thing I have learned it is we cannot go back, but we can go forward. Now the ball is in your court and you will do everything to regain your kidney function. The first thing is to trust in the Lord as you are doing. The medical field let you down but God will never let you down. He will make a way for you to be restored and healed. You never mentioned what the doctor intends to do for you. Did she take the blame for this mistake in your care? Did she admit she was wrong and will she now try to help you get better?
Do not be afraid sweet sister. God is holding you tight and He loves you dearly. No matter how you are, He can make you better and restore your kidneys to their full function. He can do all things. Nothing is too hard for him.
Father, Hear our prayers and take care of our dear sister Jan. Restore her kidneys and bring her back to good health and peace of mind. We place our trust in You and believe that our prayers will be answered. Thank You for this in the Name of Christ Jesus, our Risen Lord.

No Jeanne she did not even mention that she missed retesting me in 2022. We said our goodbyes & later I caught that she said 2021. I called the office, she never called me back, only an assistant. I didn't feel it's right to divulge this oops to anyone else except the only one who can answer it & explain why. Like you said dear Jeanne, we can't look back, I only want to address it to help her be more vigilant for the sake of her future patients. Pray for her please, she is not a believer. I share my faith with her whenever God gives me opportunities. Love all of you much😍.

Daniel 3:16-17 "Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego answered and said to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king."
God enabled them to live above their circumstances.
Psalm 40:17 "As for me, I am poor and needy, but the Lord takes thought for me. You are my help and my deliverer; do not delay, O my God!"

John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid."

The only perspective we have on life is our 'ground zero'; right where we are, here and now, this very moment.
With surprise we open an official looking envelope, it's a final demand for payment. We cannot pay it! That's our perspective, we have no other. That's our 'ground zero'.

God's perspective is different. He knew about the final demand before we were born. He knows we can't settle the bill, He knows He has a way for us to resolve the debt. All we need do is approach Him and ask Him.

God's perspective versus ours reminds me of another occasion when my wife and I returned to Turkiyë. This time to Cappadocia. Moving east from Konya we stayed in the Goreme area. Before sunrise on a frosty morning I took the opportunity to take a hot air balloon flight over the Ilara Valley ( cave dwellings and underground Churches) and the area of the 'fairy chimneys', my wife wasn't too keen as she gets virtigo badly. Leaving the ground the balloon slowly rose to 3000 feet or so, while drifting slowly in the almost still air. Wow! Absolutely fantastic scenery! ( Look up the area on Google maps or Google Earth).
The perspective from the ground was almost one dimensional in comparison to the view above from the air which was multi-dimensional. Not only that, but I could see far behind and several miles in all directions.

God's perspective of our lives is multi-dimensional, He sees and knows every detail past, present and future. Right down to the nano level.
He knows our needs before they appear on our horizon.
    Philippians 4:6-7 NAS

19 And my God will liberally supply (fill to the full) your every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
