Jesus Calling: January 30

Worship Me only. Whatever occupies your mind the most becomes your god. Worries, if indulged, develop into idols. Anxiety gains a life of its own, parasitically infesting your mind. Break free from this bondage by affirming your trust in Me and refreshing yourself in My Presence. What goes on in your mind is invisible, undetectable to other people. But I read your thoughts continually, searching for evidence of trust in Me. I rejoice when your mind turns toward Me. Guard your thoughts diligently; good thought choices will keep you close to Me.
Psalm 112:7
English Standard Version
He is not afraid of bad news; his heart is firm, trusting in the LORD.

I Corinthians 13:11
English Standard Version
When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways.

My Prayer
Only You Lord. I want to Worship You Alone. Remove any other little gods from my life. Lord, I don't want to worry. I really don't. I really want to lean on You and not worry today or tomorrow. I want to be a good steward of the money you have given us. Help us Lord. Lord, no one sees worry like You. Lord, may we find trust in You.

I read continually the verse to Trust in You Lord with all my heart and lean not on my own  understanding. I want my life to be marked by this.Lord, I want to take every thought captive, but I need your help. Thank you for the truth of You and the clarity of who I am in Christ.I want to stand above the good and bad news of life. I want to be an even current and live on the high road.I want to grow up Lord. I want to move beyond childish ways and become an adult of the Word.

Thank you for knowing me better than I know myself Lord. You do know my thoughts and for that, sometimes I'm not happy. Because my thoughts sometimes are not very good. Thank you for my wife and thank you for the work she did this evening to bring our family together. With our kids growing up, they will depart our family soon and so I appreciate nights like tonight that we can spend together sharing and then praying together. Thank you for my wife and what she is learning in her Bible study about abiding in you. Help Tyson's back to feel better, help Derek to have motivation and my daughter to get all of the therapy scheduled; provide people here that understand Functional Movement Disorder to help treat her. Give my wife the ability to complete all the notes she has to do for the children she treats each day at school. Thank you for being Lord and thank you for the good life you have given us. Help us to never not be thankful.

    3. Is that all you got from the devotion...why don't you go and write your own blog so others can pick it apart...or pray for God to examine your heart

  2. God tells us to have complete TRUST in Him - not because He needs our trust but because He is trustworthy in His promises! It has taken a long time for me to be nearer to actually living that way. Sadly, my journey had what some would consider very difficult challenges. And they have been... but I am convinced that I would not have softened and become more empathetic nor altered my path without those trust-building events.

Also, by trusting Him, these "bad" times and significant challenges were overcome! Finally, I believe God provides a way to avoid, escape or handle every "rough/steep path" we encounter.

Trust, and if you begin to waiver then TRUST some more! Godspeed as you take on today.

    1. Yes, thank you for your encouraging comment. I dwelled on the line ...God provides a way to avoid, escape, or handle every "rough/steep path" we encounter. Yes! Thank the Lord. He is The Way <3 Dear Lord, You are our place of safety and You are our deliverer and our very present help in trouble. <3 Thank You Lord for being trustworthy and never faltering, ever. Thank You that You don't depend on our anything, but You invite us to lean on You completely. Thank You, Father. I pray for help for all of us, in good times and in hard times, to trust You more. In Jesus' name. Amen. Have a beautiful, blessed day of life, brothers and sisters in Christ!

  3. Madfox, you and I are almost always on the same page. When the devil awakens me with sadness, failed expectations and negativity i turn to this blog. You often speak what is in my mind. Payton family, thank you for speaking God's truth and for creating this community. I feel betrayed by everyone, but you added a constant source for me. Thanks for bringing God closer to me. 4. "Psalm 112:7
    English Standard Version
He is not afraid of bad news; his heart is firm, trusting in the LORD." I need to concentrate on this verse for a while! I couldn't sleep last night and finally read Jan 29th again. What a blessing to get an update on your family, Mr. Peyton! I often wondered how Life was treating you these days, all these years later. Your journey continues and your faith abounds. What a blessing, indeed! I understand how negative thoughts can take on 'a life of their own.' My mind can go from A-Z in the negatives, if I let it. It is comforting to me to know that God can see ALL of that and then help me get back to Him and His Word. I accepted Christ at a young age, and now I'm 'getting up there.' I remember getting impatient with my mom and saying, "You can believe the Word or the devil's lies, but fear is believing just as claiming His Word is." I used to get frustrated wondering how she could worry so much when life was so good. Sure wish I could have a conversation with her now. I miss her and my Dad and my step-Dad and all of their wisdom. For today: I will reign my thoughts in and claim His promises. Prayers for all of you and thankfulness for your Words of wisdom.

  5. In everything give thanks. Lord I thank you for the gift of life this morning. I thank you Father for my daughter and for the two of us to worship you together as a family. I thank you for prayer warriors constantly and cobtinuously interceding to pray for others. Thank you God for being the author of my faith. Thank you for letting me know that it is You solely that orders and directs my life. All I must do is keep my focus on You. I can't do this by myself, I lean to You God to help me. I lean to You to every existence of my being and that I am a servant of your Word.
Lord continue to bless our world. Bless our leadership to place you first and foremost in every aspect if their lives. Bless them to understand that you are in control and their first thought should be honoring You. Thank you for all that are seeking the healing of your stripes. Thank you for being a mother to the motherless and a father to the fatherless. Thank you for being with us in our darkest hour and brightest moment of joy and triumph. Thank for sending your son Jesus to resue and save us. We give you all of the honor, praise and glory. You are the I Am of the I Am. We worship you in the beauty if holiness. Lord we give you praise. 8. Worry....uuugh! I sadly admit "I wrote the book" on worry and anxiety! A useless emotion! In our humanness we are prone to "protect" ourselves with worry, planning for the worst, for the bottom to drop out. Help us all know that faith and trust is what is needed to "protect" ourselves. Lord please gIve us our daily bread, just for today, not for tomorrow. Your bread for today is all we need to manage today. Blessings on you all! Amen.

    4. I was awake for three hours last night worrying about care for Paul who is becoming bedridden. I tossed and turned while praying. I remember Bob's comment from the other day...renewing the mind is a process, not an overnight sensation. Come Holy Spirit, I am broken and seek your protection from thoughts that stress me, help me to give everyone and everything to you, Lord. This time of caring for a loved one at the end of life is hard. But it's not about me. It's all about you, Lord. Trusting in your plan for each of us and letting go of thinking I control any part of this process.

    5. Dear sweet Audra, my heart goes out to you as you approach this season on your life, may God renew your spirit and give you the strength and love to carry you through each day. I have faith.that God will help you be able to administer to Paul's needs, both spiritually and physically, and will help carry you lovingly through each task. There is no doubt that this will be taxing and exhaustive at times, but I pray the Lord's peace and love will sustain you. Much agape love coming your way, dear sister in Christ.

    6. I love thinking about the "bread for today." I had just been writing out a daily to do list before reading this blog and the first line got me. He is our God. He alone. How prone to pride can I be? I learned recently that worship is surrender and service. As I seek a healthy, balanced life for myself and my family, I pray that I surrender my will and seek Him most. He can guide me if I would just let Him. We're precious to Him, worth more than many sparrows. Isn't it so evident in His mercy? Praise the Lord <3

I pray: His blessings over this day, over each of you, over our families, and our minds to be full of good things that will spill over into our words and actions; that we humbly, graciously, and joyously accept the bread for today that He's given us in His infinite wisdom and love.

Help us to be a light to others for You, Jesus. We trust You. In Your name. Amen.

  9. Norah. Well said.
All. I am a huge fan of a relatively new Christian songwriter/singer that my daughter introduced me to...

The past few weeks of the devo and our blog discussions are pretty well summed up in her song: "You (God) say". She is a very mature and seemingly humble young star. Here's the link: https://youtu.be/sIaT8Jl2zpI warning, it gets me emotional... and I'm an old school veteran put on a smile no matter what kind of guy! Today may we all have trust and thus peace! Godspeed.

  10. I was reading yesterday a chapter from "The Power of Being Thankful," by Joyce Meyer. "Worry and worship are polar opposites and we would be much happier if we learned to become worshippers instead of worriers." She went on to say that, "Worry creates an opportunity for the enemy to torment us, but worship (reverence and adoration of God) leads us into His presence, where we always find peace, joy and hope."
I loved reading this verse again:
    Psalm 112:7
    English Standard Version
He is not afraid of bad news; his heart is firm, trusting in the LORD."
Today, we go to my husband's Cardiologist. This verse will be in the forefront of my mind. Over 12 years ago, my Hub had open heart surgery and thankfully, he remains healthy. So, I will fear bad news - God has this just as He 'had' the cancer that couldn't take my husband, either.
Praying for this day, for each of you, my JC Family and all of our loved ones.
Praying for my daughter whose company is claiming bankruptcy. Maybe this will give her pause to look for another job, closer to home.
Have a blessed day as we all continue to trust in the Lord.

  13. Sitting with Mark 4:25 this AM, "For to those who have, more will be given; and from those who have nothing, even what they have will be taken away." When viewed from a materialistic standpoint, this sounds so harsh. But placed on a spiritual level, there is a profound truth being spoken by Jesus that must be heeded. (This dawned on me as I read all your posts.) Using the words of the JC reading and the thoughts you shared, another way of understanding these words of our Lord might sound like this: Those who have trust in in our Lord, more trust will be gained in so doing; those who make little effort to trust, will lose even the little trust they have in whatever they trust. would the antithesis be: Those who worry a lot, will increase their worries, those who worry little, will even lose the worries they have? Y'all have given me something to ponder as I go about my day. Blessings, JC Family! God be with you.

  14. Thank you Lord for this day! There are new things to delight us if we push back the worry and receive. To the outside world our situation may be viewed as sad but living in it with the arms of Jesus wrapped securely around us we find ourselves blessed by the simple pleasures and joy! Our son is with us and we are greatful, all that goes with that is nothing compared to the restoration that lies ahead and the eternal joy that awaits and the joy that is here and now and waiting to be claimed. 17. Blessed to be in the Presence of the Lord today and give Him all the praise and thanks for the many, many gifts of this day. I worship You in Spirit and truth Heavenly Father. Thank You.

Have no other gods: Exodus 20:3 (ESV) “You shall have no other gods before me".
God is jealous: Deuteronomy 4:24-26 (ESV) 'For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God. If you act corruptly by making a carved image in the form of anything, and by doing what is evil in the sight of the LORD your God, so as to provoke him to anger..you will soon utterly perish from the land..'
Do not worship false gods: Exodus 20:4 (ESV) “You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth".
Do not worship creation: Deuteronomy 4:19 (ESV) 'And beware lest you raise your eyes to heaven, and when you see the sun and the moon and the stars, all the host of heaven, you be drawn away and bow down to them and serve them, things that the LORD your God has allotted to all the peoples under the whole heaven".

We are encouraged today, to worship God alone. In order for us to do that, we must totally surrender our lives to Him and love Him with our whole mind, heart and soul. Surrendering to God leaves NO room for worshiping or serving other gods and idols.
We worship God through our prayers, reading His Word, singing, working, our families and relationships, our church, our serving, our witnessing, our giving and our loving others. Through all of this, may each day of our lives, lead us to grow in worshipping the Lord God and Creator of this universe, alone.

Blessings, peace and love to all.

I have run 5 full Marathons in my life and in each one, I needed Him to hold me in the soft palm of His Hand for the last 5 miles. I always felt myself running on that soft and loving cushion of those mighty Hands to the finish lines. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me. 28. Got a call from my dear sister in Christ, Mayda. Thanks for your prayers for her and Emilio. Covid has left them both so sick. She took some falls and her breathing is so bad. She sounded so scared. Said she’ll probably be in the hospital for a few months. I prayed with her. Told her to trust in the Lord. I’m believing they will both get through this with God’s help. Emilio needs a kidney transplant but he isn’t stable enough. And my other “sister” Patricia is in so much pain from her osteonecrosis in her hip and her doctors aren’t helping her. My own dear sister’s knees hurt so much that she really needs 2 knee replacements. I just keep praying and waiting on the Lord. I trust in His faithfulness. I thank Him for healing all of them and all our dear ones. He hears every prayer. Thank You Jesus.

Remove the pain and suffering from Patricia and Janet and let Your Spirit of healing touch them. In Jesus name, I pray, Amen 🙏.

  34. Dear Ellen,
I've been thinking about your scalp wound that has opened again. I think MadFox's idea of a second opinion would be something to consider. Nutrition is a big deal with wound healing. That is something that a least you can control.
One thing I have found that helps me with needs and prayers---I do a home communion. There is such a cleansing and a power that comes with it. Yesterday, when I did communion I also went through the house and Pleaded the Blood of Jesus throughout. I also open the doors and cast out any darkness, anything not of My Papa God. When I was finished, The Holy Spirit spoke to my spirit and said, "Do you feel the lightness!" And I said, "Yes I feel it!" There was such overwhelming peace and uplift. Even the air was renewed. It was such a God hug!!!
You have my prayers and I remember your daughters also. You are a daughter of The Most High God. You were bought at a great price. God knows you thoroughly and loves you COMPLETELY. He has plans for your future that includes hope, not harm; blessings, not banishment. You belong to Him!
Jesus, For Your Honor and Your Purposes, AMEN and AMEN.

    1. Dear JJ, this is the first time I have seen this precious prayer! Even though I didn’t see it, I received it and the healing requested. My scalp is completely healed now. I love the idea of home communion and of that commitment to the Lord for ourselves and our home. I will do that and post the results. I have found great “communion” with a fellow prayer group member, and have had the blessed lightness following prayer with her. Please pray that others who may be drawn to our prayer group are able to pray in unison. My daughter is doing well, still having scans every 3 months, but encouraged by her blood markers being in normal levels for the first time. She had radiation for positive lymph nodes last summer. She is a great source of help and hope to other young people who have been diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer, which has become epidemic. Please encourage your dear ones to get a colonoscopy in their 30s and 40s. We know God is the great healer and has built our bodies with wonderful healing restoration, but He does respond and answer prayers for healing. I know this is true. Thank you all so much for your wonderful support of our family going through trying times. God is good. Amen

I need prayers for my husband who is struggling and angry most of the time- I need him to know and trust God but he is resistant and wants to do life on his own (ego). I know I can’t change him- he needs to do the work. I just continue to pray for him everyday all day and do my own walk with the Lord.
I just thought I’d reach out to all you wonderful people.
      May God bless your day,

I need the refreshment found in His Presence. May He strengthen all of us who feel this way. May He guide us to the rest we need and renew our hearts and minds. I thank Him and praise Him for His loving kindness and tender mercies. He understands how we all feel and and He reads our hearts and knows we trust Him. Have a blessed and sweet day in His Presence.

Bless the Lord, O my soul,
And forget not all His benefits:
    Who forgives all your iniquities,
    Who heals all your diseases,
Who redeems your life from destruction,
Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies,
Who satisfies your mouth with good things,
So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

    1. Very true! We forget sometimes to thank Him when our prayers are answered or after we have accomplished something difficult or when we received an answer to our prayers. Every good thing comes from Him, like our good fruit and hard work because He gave us our gifts and talents and the wisdom to help us glorify Him. I thank Him through my day but I’m only human and I often get distracted. So happy He loves us as we are.

  49. Guard your thoughts diligently; hmmm...this caused me to reflect on the role of a guard in a football game. i.e., he must guard continuously until the end of The Game.
While he is in The Game, a good guard never says, I guarded well on the last play, now I'm done.
Or when my daughter wore braces and had to wear a guard all night every night to get the desired effect.
So what if it is difficult for me to guard my thoughts and my tongue?
    My Coach and Doctor
command me to Guard all the time, anyway! Time for me to ignore the difficulty and SWOOSH ✔️ JUST DO IT.
So help me God. In Jesus' Name. AMEN!

I gave her a bath (big mistake; she HATES baths), but she calmed down. I got her in her jammies and we said some prayers and read some books. Had I not read, "I rejoice when your mind turns toward Me. Guard your thoughts diligently; good thought choices will keep you close to Me." I would have handled it much differently. So thankful, as always, for this Jesus Calling Blog.
