Jesus Calling: January 27

Trust is a golden pathway to heaven. When you walk on this path, you live above your circumstances. My glorious Light shines more brightly on those who follow this path of Life. Dare to walk on the high road with Me, for it is the most direct route to heaven. The low road is circuitous: twisting and turning in agonizing knots. There the air hangs heavy, and dark, ominous clouds predominate. Relying on your own understanding will weigh you down. Trust in Me absolutely, and I will make your paths straight.
John 14:1-2
English Standard Version
“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?

Proverbs 3:5-6
English Standard Version
Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.

My Prayer
That sounds exciting Lord: to live above my circumstances. Lord, that is an amazing idea. To think that I trust You way up high and evenly throughout my days, above the roller coaster of circumstances. What a great picture. Living on the high road. To think that any circumstances of my life, as they enter life, they must pass through the high road of trust. Lord, it would be amazing to think how sins not only be lessened but disappear altogether because sin is wanting something more than what God has provided for me. And with an attitude of Trust, I would be able to Trust you for the outcomes of life. I could be obedient to your commands for fear would not be at the forefront, but Trust would reign.

Lord, help me. I want so badly to reside there, above, trusting you for outcomes. I'm so weak and have such a difficult time trusting You and instead think my way is the better way. I get scared of outcomes. So I often take control, often not giving you the opportunity to be in charge. So I guess it is a dare to walk on that high road with You. I know that the high road doesn't mean that every trial will work out the way I design and maybe that is what scares me at times, so Lord, help me. Because you chose me, to be Yours, forever. So I want to trust you through each moment.

  2. The @paytonfamily prayer nails it for me. What is sad, is that I often chose the tougher, low, non-golden path in the past few decades. No regrets! You blessed the difficult paths with challenges that forced me closer to You. More trust yielded more empathy to others and a desire to be more selfless. Now I can seek higher paths from the grace You provided. Thank you Father. Amen

    1. Like your response, MadFox. Makes me glad that the lower paths were never so appealing that I might have stayed there. As you said, the only value of the lower paths is that they drove me to desire for the higher ground and gave me more more empathy for those still on them. God be with you.

    2. And with you... Agreed when low, most of us seek the higher ground, figuratively and spiritually!

    3. Amen Bob and MadFox. We sure do seek the higher ground whe we are low.
The lowest I have ever been was when my good boss had ALS. It was such a difficult time for him and he suffered. It was just the two of us for 17 years in the law office. My heart was broken and I felt helpless. I spent so many hours scouring the internet to find a trial to get him in but it was too late because his breathing was already bad and he had a feeding tube. Nevertheless, I sought the Lord’s help, and strength and guidance every day. All I did was pray inside my head. My boss was a wonderful man with a beautiful heart, and a great lawyer, speaker and writer. He was Jewish but he saw the Christ in me every day and I am sure he is with the Lord. He worked right to the end even with his feeding tube. I switched from being a legal secretary to a caregiver with God’s help. Eventually an aide had to come in and help with the feeding tube and to drive him and get him into a wheelchair. He had to talk through a computer program but he still came into the office every day. I was there through it all because he needed me and wanted me with him. I was his best friend except for his son who was his favorite person in the world. All I could do was pray with him, comfort him and tell him God’s promises.
I made mushy yummy food for him and fed him until he needed the feeding tube. He never lost his dignity and he knew God loved him dearly. This was a test of my faith and I couldn’t have gotten through it without the Lord who never left my side even for an instant. So many times I felt Him picking me up and giving me strength. He dried many tears and calmed my worried heart. My boss taught me so much too about patience, trust, hope and gratitude. He told me I lived my faith and that absolutely blessed my broken heart.

    5. Oh, when I chose those low paths in the past, as you said, MadFox,
"You blessed the difficult paths with challenges that forced me closer to You." Realizing years later that God was with me through those bad decisions and mistakes and just waiting for me, patiently, to go to Him. And when that happened and the "fog", if you will, lifted and I realized I was worthy, mistakes and all, what a humbling and overwhelming feeling. Those low paths ended up developing and strengthening my relationship with Him.

Jeanne, what a gift your boss was to you and you to him and how you were able to feel God's presence throughout this low and oh-so difficult of a time...even though the outcome wasn't what you prayed for, you still trusted His plan...as did your incredibly brave boss. Thank you for sharing this time in your life with us, Jeanne. Such a lesson of incredible faith. Blessings and love, dear Jeanne.

    7. NJS: "Low places" and setbacks are as this devo has highlighted, places to rise with Him and grow in "wisdom and stature". For men in particular, low is nearly always the path to high in my experience.

    8. Jeanne that would have been so heartbreaking. It is so hard to watch someone continue to fail more and more. You did what you could to help him with comforts and care and helped him keep his dignity. There is a very special crown in heaven for you. It sounds like he did what he knew to give back. What a great life experience for you. God Bless you and thank you for the story.

Choosing the relationships vs anything else is the high road. It is the road Jesus walked on.
This morning I am face to face with a choice...to choose humility or to cling to my perception of righteousness ( the low road). Help me Lord to walk in your truth and choose the one that receives you grace. God bless all of you! Praying for you now. You are each so very important in kingdom currency..never doubt that. Love u

    10. Thank you my dear family, for all your kind and understanding words of comfort. Such beautiful words you all wrote. Had tears in my eyes. My good boss was so brave and I was blessed that God gave me this trial to test my faith. He uses us all according to His will and plan.
Dear MadFox, He is preparing you physically, mentally and spiritually for your transplant. He knows every thought and word in your beautiful heart. He will carry you through, and your faith will be a bright light to all those who will be blessed to be assisting and guiding you through your operation. The good Lord will be holding you very tight and sharing your burden. When it is all done you will reap the rewards of being a faithful and trusting servant. He is faithful and His promises are trustworthy.
Praying for you, dear Fern as you stand at your crossroad. Much to consider. Remember He does love the humble. God will guide your next step as you seek Him with open eyes and heart.

  11. Morning glory and blessings to the King of kings and Lord of lords. Father, so many hearts are broken, so many minds are confused, so many are questioning Your Sovereignty and saying: Where is God that all these sicknesses and tragedies are happening? Where is He in all of this?
All I can say to them is: Don't give up, hold on, He's nearer than you think. Like yesterday's devotion, He NEVER promised us a smooth, troubled free life, but He did promised to be right there, holding us, comforting us, turning the bad into good whether we see it, understand it, believe it or not! He's a faithful God! To this Father, I say thank You that me and my household are counted amongst the living this day.

Dear Lord, I call upon You in the name of Jesus, to grant Your perfect peace, comfort and strength to the broken hearted, the grieving spirits and the hurting families. Famous or not, known or unknown, rich or poor, young or old. Restore their joy back in the midst of their pain and remind them through the power of Your Holy Spirit that You are their comforter, their healer, their God who loves them with an unconditional love. May their trust in You not waiver. I pray over them Your words in: Deut. 31:8, Psalm 23:4, Psalm 27:1, Psalm 55:22, Matthew 5:4, Isaiah 49:13, Psalm 139:11-12, Psalm 119:76, Psalm 46:1 and Lam. 3:22-23. Thank You Lord for honoring Your words and Promises, they will never return to You void. May Your peace that surpasses ALL their understanding, rest upon each of them and grant them comfort and rest, in Jesus name.

Blessings to all and please take the time to show love your family or someone today. Tomorrow is not promised to anyone!

  12. The higher path can have its own challenges which are ultimately for our good and the good of others which further glorifies God. Here is an additional thought from my devotional time this AM: from Angela Merici (1500's): "But on this account, do not be discouraged: because if you try...and observe...the way laid out for your benefit, I have firm faith and hope in the divine goodness, that not only we may surmount all the perils and difficulties, but may accomplish this even with great glory; and our joy shall be in our victory; so that we shall pass this brief life so consolingly that our sorrow will be transformed in happiness, and we shall find that the thorny, steep, and stony path shall become flowering, smooth, pleasant and covered with finest gold." Have a blessed day. God be with you!

  14. As I have said in the past in this blog, Mark, the "trust muscles" of the soul are similar to the muscles of the body. The muscles in the body don't become strong over night; rather, over time through constant exercise of them. So, too, our trust in God occurs over time as we continually practice it. At my age, my trust in God is better than it was 20 years ago, yet it is still not complete. The day I lay my eyes on the King of Kings and Lord of Lords in His Kingdom is the day my trust will be perfected and I will have eternal peace.

At the same time, with over 100 posts on some days (and growing), and no way to easily scan the blog, there are some who will get frustrated.

As a blog/commentary or forum/membership gets more users, it will often need a bigger and easier way to be "user-friendly", that was/is my only point. And my personal journey is leading me to take my background and develop some type of Christian platform apart from this as I've felt there is a need given the apparent blocking of voices by Google, FB, and Twitter. CHRISTIAN alternatives may be the only way to preserve our 1st amendment rights. However, Chris' blog is and should be our entry point to this community. Peace. AMEN.

  19. For the first time in two weeks, I've had the time to read all of the posts and have tried to get caught up, though I'm sure I've missed some things. However, every day I've gotten on here for the devotion and keep the page up. I pray for each of you, even when I don't know the specifics.
My Dear Hub has been dealing with a leg issue. We went to the Dr. Monday and he is on an antibiotic and a diuretic which has helped, though he is still in pain. I have been juggling so much for the last few weeks: work has been crazy, still trying to get Christmas down (ha ha), take care of my dear man, try to resolve family issues that come from the issues of this day and time's political scene, COVID, different views, opinions - it's exhausting. Finally, yesterday, the tide turned because for the first time in ages, I got plenty of sleep, and all throughout the day, I asked for help from the One and only who can truly help. It was a blessed day. I set my priorities (God first, self prepared and humble to listen to God, Hubby's meals, meds, leg treatment, work in between (limited the length of conversations with disgruntled people - things I can't change!). By the end of the long day, we fell in bed, blessed, well taken care of. We prayed and slept great. This morning, for the last hour, I have been reading this blog, praying for each of you (where is Sassy Mom? Did I just miss her posts or has she not been on for a while?), and BREATHING in His Word so I am fully equipped to do it all again today.
When overwhelmed, I have stopped, prayed, breathed, asked God, "What do I do next?" and He orders my steps, directs my path. As always, today's post and comments from several years ago are so pertinent. I will keep those verses in the forefront of my mind again today and pray for Victory for each of us.
I think I'll tattoo Prov 3:5,6 on my eyelids or at the end of my nose as a reminder that if it takes restarting or realigning my mind 1,000 times today - I will go back to that verse. Not MY understanding - but trust in the Lord. Love and prayers to each of you.

  23. “The Lord is my strength and my shield; in Him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to Him.” Psalm 28:7.

Loving and Compassionate Father, In difficult times, please help me to be aware of Your goodness and unconditional love for me, so that I will continue to trust in Your Will for me. Trusting You is such a significant aspect in my spiritual life, because it plays a role in my relationship with You. I believe in Your Faithfulness, Competency and Goodness enough to entrust myself to You. Your love is real, so real that it requires that I love You. Trusting You, gives rise to a peace, joy and confidence in knowing that I am loved, protected, and never forsaken or left alone. I trust that Your plans/Will are greater than my own. You’ve asked me to trust in You, to trust in Your plan, to trust that You are who You say You are and work all things out for my good (Romans 8:28), I thank You. Jesus, I trust in You! Amen.

“Those who know Your name trust You because You have not abandoned any who seek You, Lord.” — Psalm 9:10

    Blessings and Peace.

  26. Thank You, Jesus, for another day! I'm so blessed by Your unconditional love, mercy and grace.

Thank you all for praying with me for my middle son who was traveling cross country. I woke up early this morning to a call from my son telling me first that he was okay. He was traveling back home when he encountered a snow storm in Colorado. He lost control of his vehicle and hit a pole head on. Not a scratch on him! Thank you, Jesus!! The car is most likely totaled so he'll be looking to get a flight back home. He was 2 hours out from my brother-in-law's house, so they were kind enough to pick him up. He's safe. Praise the Lord! By the way, this is the sane son that I mentioned above being quadriparetic because of a terrible car accident 10 years ago. I'm so thankful that he's not hurt and safe. Trusting in Him to work out the details. God is good!

JC family, please join me in lifting up my hairdresser's boyfriend to the Throne of Grace. I just received the terrible news that he's been diagnosed with throat cancer and it has metastasized to his brain and lungs. He starts radiation treatment tomorrow. I know that God is in the Miraculous healing business. I've witnessed it myself. Covering him with the Blood of Jesus for strength and comfort.

Also, please continue to pray for my dear mom who is still suffering from sciatica nerve pain. Please guide her, Lord, to receive the best care possible. In Jesus Holy name, I pray. Amen.

May you all feel His presence today as we stand present to witness His glorious work.

  27. I am glad to be here to read today's Devotional. At 2:45 am we awoke to the smell of kerosene throughout the house. The major snow fall overnight had blocked the monitor heater exhaust, even though we had cleared it before going to bed. Since 2 pm yesterday we have been shoveling every few hours and about an inch an hour is forecast through the rest of today. Thank you for your prayers for our continued protection made possible by our faith. I won't elaborate more about an evil attack we came under yesterday, but know that our faith, lots of light and worship music drove the darkness away. Praying for all of you and we gratefully receive your prayers. God bless you one and all! ♥️🙏

  31. Lord Jesus thank you for the straight path. For the peace you give when on this Way. You are the Way ( Truth and Life too), walking Your walk, talking your talk, being You to the lost and needy around us, is the result of walking on the King's Highway. There are other lower ways which we could travel which are not your choice for us. But even in those, even when we get ourselves tied up in a maze, struggling to get past dead end after dead end, You are still with us, patiently waiting for when we cry out to You for help. You then gently lead us by the hand back to your Way.
Lord, thank you for your love, your patience, your loving care, your shepherding. Lead on.

  52. To the author of the prayer, what do you mean by the following: “sin is wanting something more than what God has provided for me.”

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. 'Sin is anything you say, do, or think that goes against what God wants (His will).' This is a very basic definition, but it does point to the heart of what sin is. Example: If God has given you a wife it is sin to lust after another woman.

  53. From today's Jesus Calling blog "Trust is a golden pathway to heaven. When you walk on this path, you live above your circumstances." and "Dare to walk on the high road with Me, for it is the most direct route to heaven. The low road is circuitous: twisting and turning in agonizing knots".
I've just rewatched the video posted last year "Higher Ground" (https://youtu.be/t9tTVvuzHO4), and noticed at one point (from minute 1:40 through 2:20) a freeway (highway) crossing a wooded valley. On the 'highway' several cars and semi's can be seen crossing the valley. It would not be possible for those vehicles to traverse the slopes and floor of the valley. The highway makes it possible it's the direct route across the valley.
There are times in life we face impossible valley's we just can't trust ourselves to cross.
    Don't trust yourself trust Jesus:
Proverbs 3:6 "In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths." (like the freeway over the valley). If He leads you into the valley, keep trusting, He will lead you out again: 1 Thessalonians 5:24 "The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it."

  54. I loved today’s devotion and prayer! We trust God but when it comes to climbing onto that weaker limb, are we willing to take a risk with the Lord or does our human understanding kick in and say: You’re gonna fall? We’re only human but we need supernatural trust. Just like when Peter walked on the water until he realized the real danger and took his eyes off Jesus and sank. We must hand God our reins and not yank them back. If we believe He is the Author and Director of our lives we must allow Him to lead us without fear. Today’s prayer was wonderful and honest and I could relate to it perfectly. My life is so different as my mom’s caregiver but I am her daughter first. So I love her dearly and try to make her feel loved. Yesterday was a really good day for a few reasons. My husband and my cousin were coming for a chicken dinner. I made mushrooms with red pepper, green beans, roasted asparagus with egg white and Parm, and mashed potatoes, gravy, and sweet potatoes. My cousin Pat brought apple cider and cranberry sauce. Pat just lost her sister Beth to lung cancer and so many of your were praying for her. She’s in a better place and we know that. And we were together feeling nothing but joy. We all enjoyed ourselves and my mom ate well. I was so happy to be with my dear Rick for a few hours. While we ate dinner, we listened to my mom’s favorite music: Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Doris Day and Nat King Cole. My mom was having fun reminiscing about the good old days and she smiled a lot. We shared the wine Rick brought. I had baked chocolate cupcakes the day before and I put a little extra cocoa into the batter and frosting and they were yummy. I sent Rick and my cousin home with leftovers. My mom and I had a really good day and we built some sweet memories. We thanked God for our blessings. He was with us all. We could feel His presence. Mom woke up cheerful today telling me she loved me.I woke up thanking God for the new day and all my blessings. My sister called and we all prayed together and asked God to heal Eli who is getting chemo today. Looking forward to where God leads us today. So blessed that we’re under His watchful Eye and in His loving care. Thank You Jesus.

    Philippians 4:4
Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!

    Psalm 94:19
In the multitude of my anxieties within me, Your comforts delight my soul.

    Psalm 118:24
This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.
