Jesus Calling: January 12

Let Me prepare you for the day that stretches out before you. I know exactly what this day will contain, whereas you have only vague ideas about it.You would like to see a map; showing all the twists and turns of your journey. You'd feel more prepared if you could somehow visualize what is on the road ahead. However, there is a better way to be prepared for whatever you will encounter today: Spend quality time with Me.
I will not show you what is on the road ahead, but I will thoroughly equip you for the journey. My living Presence is your Companion each step of the way. Stay in continual communication with Me, whispering My name whenever you need to redirect your thoughts. Thus, you can walk through this day with your focus on Me. My abiding Presence is the best road map available.

Exodus 33:14
English Standard VersionAnd he said, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”

John 15:4-7
English Standard Version
Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

My Prayer
Lord, you are over all. You are king. You are creator and Lord. You are my deliverer. You are my redeemer and Savior. You are the healer, the restorer of life, the sanctifier of mankind. You uphold all things by the Word of Your Power. You are the First and the Last. You are Peace. You are My presence. You are my guide and shepherd. You are all glory and might. You are the faithful One. You are ever so faithful. You are love. You are forgiveness. You have perfect timing. Lord, I can lean on You because You are strength.

Lord, I think knowing the road is the key. I think having the map in my hands is what I need. But, the secret lies in my time with You. I need to walk with You. You are my guide. You are my map. This week I have been talking to You a lot about trust and walking in Your presence and having peace. That is where I need to stay. My back hurts. I don't know why, but it hurts. I need your strength. I need you to restore my strength. I feel unsettled. My head is hurting, my stomach is empty. I don't feel right. Lord, I want to lean on You and rest in You. Help me Lord not to bury myself in my hurts, but use this time to rely on Your strength. May it be a reminder that You are my health.

Lord, help me to see that I don't need a road, but what I need is Your to be beside me. Help me to know the Holy Spirit better in my life. And help me to stay in constant communication with You.

I must abide in You. You are the vine. I am the branch. And fruit is what we both want. Fruit isn't just what I want. It is what we both want. Lord, I want to trust in You for the Outcome that you have prescribed for my life. With you, everything is right. I want to stay close to You and close to trusting in You. May your words abide in Me so that the things I'm asking are of You.

Lord, thank You for your Word and giving it to us. Thank you for illuminating us with clarity of thought.

I thank you for these men and women of God that you have placed in our midst in our churches. Lord, thank you for bringing each one. Lord, we live in a world of constant temptations and constant distractions. These electronic devices we now have beside us, the iPhones, iPods, Kindles, iPads can add to the distraction. Lord, I pray for these leaders that they would never be comfortable with their repentance, but would always be bothered by it. Lord, may it be continually difficult. Dig up all sins in their lives and may they present them before You. Lord, help them to walk with integrity and strong character. Train them in their private thoughts, that they would honor You. Lord, never allow them to just go through the motions, but to stay strong with You every step of the way. Lord, we need You and need to stay on the alert. Give them accountability partners and friends that they can confide in and trust. Thank You for your presence. We praise You. In Christ.

  3. Sarah writes (Jesus says) "I will not show you what is on the road ahead... so your focus (should be) on Me. My abiding Presence is the best road map..."

I am consistently awed at how this devotional and the way it is written can be amazingly on target with the message I needed that day! I am headed in a new direction and truly believe He has gotten my attention after decades of being on a path that was "good" but perhaps not nearly as good as it could have been.

I am unsure as to how it will play out over the days, months and years ahead but without doubt I am now better prepared to listen and trust that my path is one more closely aligned with His will. Jesus calling has certainly created a more receptive spirit by warmly talking to all of us in a way that seems to capture the Spirit and voice of the Lord. Peace and thanks to all here that write on the blog and for the the wisdom being shared.

  4. A thought that I read, “If the children of Israel knew the road ahead of them when Moses was leading them out of slavery in Egypt, they very well might have stayed in Egypt.” If we knew where this day is going, we might chose to stay home. Jesus calls us to, “follow Me.” To follow is to be behind a lead. Our leader is our Lord and Savior, it doesn’t matter where we are going. Let us sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride. There is some lovely scenery He wants to show us along the way.

    1. Yes Bob, you are of course correct. We want to lead but a good leader is also a great follower... this is the "trust muscle" you discussed before. In a changed or new path, we need to slow down, let Him lead, and then enjoy His journey for us.

      Delete
    2. And let's be realistic, the ride is not always beautiful scenery. We know the devil comes to hate, steal and destroy. As we witness, so must we rebuke such action in Jesus name. Lord, let the map lead us to show how you are over all with your love, stories of miraculous healing and saving souls left and right! This is the destination of the road we follow with You. Praying for a U Turn for all leaders in our country and the world to make prudent choices so we look more like a celebratory parade than a destruction derby. In Jesus's name I pray!

My loving Father knew the hole in my heart had doubled in size before I did. That really strengthened my trust muscles. He is in charge and I am following His lead. Thank You Jesus!

I saw CLEAR AS A BELL, the forearm and hand of God reaching out as outlined in the shadows of the clouds. His invitation could not have been clearer to me. I posted a comment of what I saw, and simply wrote, "grab it!". I pray that's the kind of "viral" news we need. Thank you Jesus for your signs and wonders that comfort us!

    5. Brie I'm praying for Azalea and Honeysuckle to find their way home safely. Once our cat was missing for 10 days as he ran out the day we moved into a new house. My then husband put a rug outside for him to smell to find his way home. We also left the patio door open a crack. I woke up in the night 10 days later with my cat walking on me. I hope and pray your family member pets will find their way back safe and sound and SOON.
BFF I'm praying for your mom. God is so good and will hear our prayers for her. I'm glad to pray for her and I know what its like to be in your current concerns. Take care and God be with you sisters as we pray for your concerns. Love, Kathy

    8. Praying for you, sisters of this JC fam. Brie, my mom used to recite a prayer she learned from her mom, my grandmother, Yaya, when something was lost...whether it be things, pets, people, she'd pray to St. Anthony with this:
      Tony, Tony look around
something's lost (or in this case, put in "Azalea & Honeysuckle are" lost)
      & can't be found

When my mom, who is grounded in her faith as was my Yaya, would recite this, I promise you all that was lost would be found. I will say this for Azalea & Honeysuckle and know God is leading them back to their home.

BFF, I will also add your mom to my prayers today asking Jehovah Rapha to heal her and may she feel His presence and give her an all-knowing that He is a real and present Helper! Hugging you as well knowing you're concerned about your sweet mom.

We are reminded today to keep whispering God's name throughout our day to be redirected/corrected in our thoughts. HE IS our guide and WAY MAKER! Love and healing blessings one and all in this wonderful JC family!

    1. Dear ABC, We all stumble when we rush ahead. Broke my toe a couple of years ago doing that. God wants us to go carefully ahead in His presence. That way we can see His Hand in our day and the light He shines on our path. Can’t see it if you go too fast. I’m learning to slow down and feel Him with me. Sometimes I fall short but I am definitely trying. He appreciates our efforts.

  17. Most Gracious, Loving and Compassionate Father, I come to say thank You for Your faithfulness, thank You for never leaving nor forsaking me. I can move through my days, knowing that I am free, because whom the Son sets free, is free indeed! Thank You Lord, for a successful procedure. Thank You for protecting my heart, mind and body that was under anesthetic, thank You for guiding the decisions, skills and hands of the doctor and nursing team. I am here because of Your mercy and grace. I hold tightly to all Your promises because they are a spring that overflows with goodness. My heart is full of gratitude for ALL You do. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

“I will thank the Lord because He is just; I will sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High.” Psalm 7:17

Thanks to ALL of you my JC family, for the love and prayers during both of my procedures! God is too good! He was with me from the beginning and to the end. All went very well because I had the covering of my Master and Savior Jesus Christ, and I had your prayers! I am resting well with HIM still by my side. As you rendered prayers for me, may the Lord multiply His Blessings, grant you Favor and all the Petitions of your heart more than you ever imagine!

Sassy Mom, thanking God for RELIEF FOR MISS PAT!! Keeping our brother MadFox in prayers, along with All those that are sick (their relief is on the way as well!). May each day bring healing with the dawn, may energy be restored to heal your wounds, may the trust and hope of God remain within your heart, as you allow His oil of healing to flow through you like living stream. May you find new strength for a new start towards total healing and great health in the days/years ahead, in Jesus’ name.

Let’s make the choice of staying in continual communication with the Lord, and while we are at it, remind Him of His promises because in doing so, it reassures us of His mighty power and love. It shows that we TRUST in Him. It casts away fears, doubts, helps us to resist the devil, and encourages us to pray, because our God can never fail in His promise. It also helps us to realize how valuable and important we are to Him. It brings us joy in our difficulties, and it raises our hope to know that the Creator of the universe will grant us our heart desires. It gives us a high level of faith in Him! This New Year, may we refuse to settle for anything, other than God’s best! Whatever you are facing today or tomorrow, God has given you a challenge to lay your case before Him. So, when you stand before the Throne of God, plead your case as a lawyer would and watch God honor His Words and Promises! Please read Hebrews 6:16-20, because it’s a VERY great reminder of what the His Word says.

ISAIAH 43:25,26- I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins. Put me in remembrance: let us plead together: declare thou, that thou mayest be justified.

Heb. 4:12- For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and He is the one to whom we are accountable.

    Blessings and Peace.

  26. “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:17-18.
Hold fast to those things that never fade away. Live for those things that endure and that glorify God.
Father, Give us all clearer vision to see above all the worldly promises and glitter. Let us keep our eyes on You, our Maker, our Potter, our Stronghold, our Shelter, our Answer. 29. "Let Me prepare you for the day that stretches out before you".
Jesus is the Master of Preparation. He prepared Himself for His ministry. He prepared His Disciples for their ministry. That He does prepare each one of us uniquely for our tailor-made day is so precious. "I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go". " I will guide you with My eye". He has gone ahead and prepared a place for us in Heaven. In the Psalm 23 we read that He prepares a table before us in the presence of our enemies.
It's a wonderful precious delightful response to Him when we say 'Lord Jesus, I trust you, I give You this day that You have prepared for me, lead me through it accordingly to Your plan and purpose'. God's GPS - God's Guidance Positioning System, His daily preparation for us, is perfectly tailored to lead each of us uniquely along His Way for today and every day He gives us.

    "Christ Is Enough"

    [VERSE]
    Christ is my reward
    And all of my devotion
Now there's nothing in this world
    That could ever satisfy

    [PRE-CHORUS]
    Through every trial
    My soul will sing
    No turning back
    I've been set free

    [CHORUS]
    Christ is enough for me
    Christ is enough for me
Everything I need is in You
    Everything I need

    [VERSE]
    Christ my all in all
    The joy of my salvation
And this hope will never fail
    Heaven is our home

    [PRE-CHORUS]
    Through every storm
    My soul will sing
    Jesus is here
    To God be the glory

    [BRIDGE]
I have decided to follow Jesus
    No turning back
    No turning back

    The cross before me
    The world behind me
    No turning back
    No turning back

  34. This is Blessed Assurance:
    Exodus 33:14
And he said, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”
Amen and Amen. That's where the true peace comes from. Not this empty world but only through the Lord. He is always at our sides.
Been whispering the Name of Jesus so much through my day and YES, He is my unchanging peace. To know that He knows my heart intimately and He can see what is right around the bend is such a comfort to me. To feel His loving embrace and His comfort and understanding. He is everything I need and He is always enough.

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

Isaiah 41:10 Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

Isaiah 40:30-31 Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

I am doing well resting in the love and care of the Keeper of my heart and the Lover of my soul.
May you all stop and be still and know He is God, and feel and receive everything He has to offer to you. Thank You Jesus.

  35. If Spiritual Warfare is knocking on your door, you must be in the WORD. Put so much WORD down deep in your Spirit that Satan doesn't want to even try and steal it.

Be in Prayer, Praise, Worship and Thankgiving! Use your God given AUTHORITY! Remember that to complain causes you to to remain.

Resist your adversary every day. When you resist him, he MUST FLEE! He DOES NOT have an option to stay, torment and prosper against you!

Decree and Declare: I take what Jesus has done for me. You, satan, get your hands off of me, my family, and everything that rightfully belongs to me that the shed BLOOD OF JESUS has paid for. I am FREE, I am HEALED, I am WHOLE and REDEEMED. I render you helpless against me and off of my life, In the Mighty Name of Jesus. I receive my FREEDOM TODAY!!! HALLELUJAH!!! JJ

  36. "Let Me prepare you for the day that stretches out before you. I know exactly what this day will contain...."
Today's reading reminds me of the time my wife and I flew back to Turkiyë for a Gulet cruise after we had lived and worked there.
A Gulet is a 2 masted schooner that sails up or down the coast, hugging the coastline, never or rarely out to deep sea.
Overnighting in sheltered bays, stopping at small islands or coves for lunch, and afternoon snacks, the well experienced captain safely steers the Gulet, charting a course that avoids rocky outcrops and shoals. There are many hidden dangers out of sight, underwater.
We, enjoying the cruise, beautiful scenery and marvelous weather are unaware of the underwater dangers. But the captain knows. He consults his charts and instruments to navigate safely for all on board.
Jesus, the Captain of our ship likewise know exactly what our day will contain for none of it is hidden to Him.
In spending quality time with Him in the morning He steers us accordingly and thoroughly equips and prepared us for the journey.
    Psalm 32:8
“I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go: I will guide you with My eye.”

    4. Jan Gridley, I did reflect back to that time, it was quite vivid in my mind. Also what fitted so we'll that I was mindful of at that time on the Gulet was a prophetic word I received from our Pastor in my late 20's over 40 years earlier.
Part of which was "let your sails be filled with the wind of my Spirit and I will lead you away from the rocks and shallows to your destination".

Proverbs 3:24-26 When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.
Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh. For the Lord shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.

  43. "Spend quality time with Me."
What an invitation! The King of Kings and Lord of Lords wants us to spend quality time with Him. That is so precious and a wonderful indication that we are in a love relationship with Him; He personally has invested His life in us.
I love spending time with my wife (even after 52 years of marriage :). She's cute, pretty, beautiful inside and outside, lovely, funny, the best helpmeet a man could hope for, a great companion, especially as she loves the Lord too.
But what does our Lord Jesus see in us?
Looking at my self, the best I can say is 'there's room for improvement'.
Yet in His Love He sees us as a finished beautiful reflection of Himself.
Zephaniah 3:17 “The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in His love, He will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing."
1 Corinthians 15:49 ESV "Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven."
Genesis 1:27 ESV "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them."
1 John 3:2 ESV "Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is."
2 Corinthians 3:18: "But we all with unveiled face, beholding and reflecting like a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, even as from the Lord, the Spirit."

Requesting prayer for my oldest son who is a fireman, he suffered a bad fall at work November 5th with resultant large soft tissue injury to right side of his back. He has been off work since recovering and was hopeful to return to work January 21st. An MRI last Friday shows large pockets of fluid at the site of the injury that may need to be removed surgically and surgical drains inserted to help avoid infection. He has a phone conference with his doctor this morning. Praying for wisdom in decision making and patience for him as he continues to trust the Lord during this time.

  45. Loved todays devotion. Especially; “I will not show you what is on the road ahead, but I will thoroughly equip you for the journey. My living Presence is your Companion each step of the way”.
These days are precious and emotional.
I can feel the Presence of the Lord and I know He has equipped me to be a blessing and a help to my good mom. He has also given me the fruit of the Spirit-long suffering (patience) with my mom. My brother’s dear wife and daughter were here yesterday and we had such a nice day. My mom really enjoyed seeing them and we all felt that she was happy and blessed to feel the love around her. God knew we all needed this day of joy. And it was a sunny day too. He is so good all the time. Let us praise His Holy Name forever! He has blessed us in so many ways and He continues to provide us with joy and peace through our faith. Praying I will be a good Instrument in His Hands today. May you all have a blessed day and feel His loving care through this new day. And say Thank You Jesus. He receives our gratitude and praise just as we receive His countless blessings.

    1 Chronicles 16:34
Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.

    Colossians 3:15
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.
