Jesus Calling: January 15

My face is shining upon you, beaming out Peace that transcends understanding. You are surrounded by a sea of problems, but you are face to Face with Me, your Peace. As long as you focus on Me, you are safe. If you gaze too long at the myriad problems around you, you will sink under the weight of your burdens. When you start to sink, simply call out "Help me, Jesus!" and I will lift you up.
The closer you live to Me, the safer you are. Circumstances around you are undulating, and there are treacherous-looking waves in the distance. Fix your eyes on Me, the One who never changes. By the time those waves reach you, they will have shrunk to proportions of My design. I am always beside you, helping you face today's waves. The future is a phantom, seeking to spook you. Laugh at the future! Stay close to me.
Philippians 4:7
English Standard Version
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Matthew 14:30
English Standard Version
But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.”

Hebrews 12:2
English Standard Version
looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

My Prayer
There is peace in You Jesus. You bring peace. I know I am justified. I know that I don't have to do anything to earn Your affection, Your Love, Your approval. You give me peace that surpasses all understanding. If You saved me, then You can handle my day to day struggles. Nothing should be able to steal the peace in my life.

How often Lord do I let a little problem sink me. I over-analyze it and search for a man-made solution rather than calling on You first and seeking You first. I found myself doing this yesterday and through it I could get very little done. Teach me and train me to call on You saying, "Help me, Jesus." Last night, there was anger in me and I found myself darting off into areas I should not go. When through it all, you are there, ready to help me.

Your peaces surpasses understanding. This verse reminds me of Proverbs 3:5-6 and how I am not to lean on my own understanding. I focus too much on how I think I see things and not enough resting with You and realizing that peace is what has solved my ultimate problem in life.

Keep me close to You Lord. Lord, trials will come. Problems will surface. But, help me to call on You and seek Your answer to any of those problems. Let me surround myself with You, confident that You, through me, can conquer anything. When Peter walked on water, it was You working through him, but the moment he took his eyes off of You, he sunk. I sink when I take my eyes off of You.

  5. I currently have the Jesus Calling book (received it as a gift) and have shared it with several friends, but I especially enjoy the prayers you have added at the end of the blog posts. They speak to the heart of sincerity + simplicity. I am leading a "workshop at a prayer conference this weekend, and after I read the prayer yesterday, I thought it would be great to share some of these prayers (with full credit to you of course) with those who attend the session. May I have your permission?

  6. Since many now have a mobile phone nearby almost 24/7, this blog is an answered prayer! I can read the Jesus Calling devo blog anywhere or at night. Revisiting Jesus' message from today and reading the message for tomorrow on a "smart" phone is convenient. Truly positively impacting those who can't get to their printed copy at the time of need.

@paytonfamily's 2013 year long blog and adding the full scripture has now developed a community! How awesome this has become! As more folks share and dialogue with comments on the message of the day, we build each other's faith. Again, awesome.

I am sure that Chris had no idea how many people he would serve by his personal journey blogging online with Jesus Calling. Our shared "walk" with the Son, our Lord and Savior helps us all. Thank you. Godspeed and have a great day.

God and His Spirit in those here is lifting many from the deepest parts of their valleys in life to a greater peace day to day, as we journey through Jesus Calling and Chris' Bible Tags. Amen.

    2. Have been reading this blog for about 4 years. Have only posted once, but have so appreciated everyone else’s posts. Regularly pray for all concerns mentioned and celebrate the answered prayers and praises. So my guess is this reaches probably at least 10 -20 times the number of people who post

Today's reading is a direct answer to a dialogue from last night with Brie. We feel like we are sinking. Jesus reminds us what to do.

  10. Fear enters into my mind so often. My Jesus calling helps me so much. Since finding this blog I don't miss a day. Reading your prayers and others helps me so much. For years now the Lord has told me " write it down " and I haven't out of fear. Fear that my handwriting is so bad...got over that and it was my grammer is incorrect...then along came bad spelling! I have found that the devil will use anything I allow. I now realize that all this time he was telling me to write it down not for others to critique or even to learn from, but for me to see the growth in myself. The times I repeat errors in judgement whether big or small is because I have forgotten how it impacted my world the first time. The devil would and has at times made me feel it was because I am worthless or no good beyond His reach. That my friends is why we all need this wonderful blog. The book is awesome! After I read each morning I pray for each of you who comment (especially for those who correct errors) lol. I also reflect on those things that I have experienced and grown from and how God used them. Getting so much from this blog I always share on Facebook. I just found out a sweet family member looks forward to and reads it every day! What a wonderful blessing! I guess in a way I'm writing it down.

  12. The scripture for my meditation today is Matthew 6:25-30, the passage in which Jesus asks us to give thought to the birds of the air and the lilies of the field. Most of us know what it says (in our head), but do we really know (embrace in our heart) what it says? Jesus opens these thoughts with these words, "Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?" The Lord created us in His image and I get the impression God delighted in doing so. And why did God create us as such? God is love and God created us to be the object of His love. Of course, love is all about being in relationship. When we form a relationship with the issues of the world (spending all our time focused on them), we chose not to be in relationship with God even though we say we do. Jesus was making clear the love of God for us has got our back. As this passage ends, we are called to "seek first the Kingdom of God (our relationship with our Heavenly Father) and all will be taken care of." We know this, in spending the time with Him as described in the reading, it will begin to sink in. God helps us so to do!

  20. I sat with a familiar verse this AM, from I Samuel 3:10 when the boy Samuel was told by his mentor to say when he heard God call, "Speak, for Your servant is listening." A simple sentence, a profound thought. An opening of the door to allow the Lord in (Speak), a humble posture before the Lord God Almighty (Your servant), an absolute and complete focus (is listening). From the gospel lesson for today, Mark 1:29-39, it is recorded of Jesus, "Rising very early before dawn, He left and went off to a deserted place where He prayed." It doesn't say what He was praying for but would it be highly likely that His prayer posture was very similar to young Samuel? Jesus faced all that today's reading spoke of and He met it head on by orienting His soul toward God before the day began, seeking His Father's words. We would do well to carve out that same space in our daily routine to prepare our self for the day ahead. God be with you.

A suggestion: do a search for the painting, "The Infant Samuel Praying" by Sir Joshua Reynolds. It is a very powerful visual of the boy Samuel speaking those words, "Speak, Your servant is listening." Spend a few minutes allowing the Spirit to move within you while you contemplate that image.

  23. JC family - I was so blessed and encouraged by reading this excerpt from Saint Ephrem, I wanted to share it with you.

"The word of God is a tree of life that offers us blessed fruit from each of its branches. It is like that rock which was struck open in the wilderness, from which all were offered spiritual drink. As the Apostle says: They ate spiritual food and they drank spiritual drink.

And so whenever anyone discovers some part of the treasure, he should not think that he has exhausted God’s word. Instead he should feel that this is all that he was able to find of the wealth contained in it. Nor should he say that the word is weak and sterile or look down on it simply because this portion was all that he happened to find. But precisely because he could not capture it all, he should give thanks for its riches.

Be glad then that you are overwhelmed, and do not be saddened because he has overcome you. A thirsty man is happy when he is drinking, and he is not depressed because he cannot exhaust the spring.

So let this spring quench your thirst, and not your thirst the spring. For if you can satisfy your thirst without exhausting the spring, then when you thirst again you can drink from it once more.  But if when your thirst is sated the spring is also dried up, then your victory would turn to harm.

Be thankful, then, for what you have received, and do not be saddened at all that such an abundance still remains. What you have received and attained is your present share, while what is left will be your heritage. For what you could not take at one time because of your weakness, you will be able to grasp at another if you only persevere. So do not foolishly try to drain in one draught what cannot be consumed all at once.  And do not cease out of faintheartedness from what you will be able to absorb as time goes on."

    Blessings from France ❤

  28. As we often say here in this community, the JC devo message this morning hit squarely where I have been "living in my head" the past few days. I've completed 3 of the 4 cycles of IV chemo and the next part of the journey will be the real challenge. After having a fantastic and really remarkable chemo process, I began to read about the upcoming stem cell transplant, my aggressive genetics, and the subsequent first detailed discussion with the staff of the transplant center. Fear began to creep in at the daunting contrast of the chemo "adventure" to the relative challenges and high risks of the transplant. Never mind that at present the normal family member with you bedside for 2 weeks is forbidden due to covid. I will face it solely with the Lord and when able my family,, the friends via calls, zoom, text, email, and this blog.

But as often occurs now, my circle of friends and JC brought comfort today: "You are surrounded by a sea of problems, but you are face to Face with Me, your Peace... Circumstances... are undulating, and there are treacherous-looking waves in the distance. By the time those waves reach you, they will have shrunk to proportions of My design... I am always beside you, helping you face today's waves. The future is a phantom, seeking to spook you. Laugh at the future!" I will laugh an smile Please! Please pray for that upcoming and new part of this journey, for miraculous good response, relatively similar ease like my chemo, and the ability to weather the storm in the boat alone, if needed.

After discussion with the resident and family RN, my Christian oncologist, and my strong wife, we reasoned that I'm the center of, and responsible for my own positivity! And it is essential that I stay there! Plus, our eldest and his wife announced the summer addition of our 1st grandchild! MUCH to be thankful and to look forward to. My doc in response to some of the negative info about my genetics and the real risks at transplant summed it up this way and I quote, "Miracles happen daily. Why not you?? Nothing is too big for our God. Keep moving forward 👊 You are an individual (who is responding better than expected). Limit the noise... Your journey is your own. No reason you can't be giving a toast at that new child’s wedding one day." He is a young doc and the perfect fit for me.

Never mind I have the fantastic JC Prayer Warriors, family, prayer groups, my church, other church prayer lists, and God holding my hand each day... Sarah as JC summed it up perfectly: "When you start to sink, simply call out "Help me, Jesus!" and I will lift you up." Thanks to all for all the mentions and the prayers written here nearly every day for me. I read every day both early and late. I have to try hard to be negative and thus will continue to be a positive light as it's my default personality. BTW, it is going well with the nurse Mgr. as it needs to, since the transplant center did say my post transplant strategy will be this same new drug via IV weekly for 2 years minimum. So, I'm gonna need to be positive and the light for quite a while with her and that team!! In Him, humbly and so appreciative of all here. Be blessed. AMEN.

    3. Thank you Mad Fox. Thank you everyone who shares so earnestly and personally. Revelation reminds us, there is power in the word of testimony. Your words give truth to God’s word. Bearing one another’s burdens is part of our calling. It is an honor. We GET to pray for each other. What an amazing thing!

And so we journey with each other watching God work, calling to attention his wonderful acts! Praise God! Praise God!

And congratulations about your grandchild! I love your doctor. What wonderful inspiring words. May it be so, Papa God. May it be so!

    10. ...BTW, it is going well with the nurse Mgr... YEAH! I'll let my friend Joani know. She is not on this blog but is praying for you and all whom you encounter on this journey.
Yes! You have our prayers for that upcoming and new part of this journey, for miraculous good response, with relatively similar ease like, or better, than your chemo, and the ability to weather the storm in the boat with Jesus (for you are never alone said the One who promises never to leave you nor forsake you and Who is the same YTF, Yesterday, Today, and Forever!
      Whenever Circumstances... are undulating, and there are treacherous-looking waves in the distance, refuse to participate;
when you hear some of the negative info about your genetics and the real risks at transplant, refuse to participate; when pain and fear knocks at your door alive, refuse to participate. Now that you have heard and read what others have to say about it, ask Jesus what He has to say about it. And when it comes to Jesus' Miracles, choose to participate.
I love you MadFox. Blessings to you and our entire JC Familybof pray-ers in Jesus' Name. Amen

You have been given this trial and challenge to strengthen your faith and trust muscles. Every person who sees your unwavering faith and trust is walking away with a bit of the light of Christ. You are a shining beacon in this dark and fallen world and all of God’s people are drawn to the light. Even that Nurse Mgr. This is part of God’s plan to use you as His instrument of Love and to add to His Flock. I have no doubt that God will continue to amaze the Doctors and all those He puts in your path. His faithfulness and miraculous healing power are matchless. Trust in His promises. All things are possible! Waiting to hear more of His good deeds in your life! So happy about your grandchild! I know what a blessing and gift a grandchild is! My third grandson is coming in April. Blessed I am and blessed I shall remain. Rest well, dear brother! Much love and many prayers 💗

  33. ❤️️ 🎶🎶🎶❤️️ TURN YOUR EYES UPON JESUS by HELEN LEMMEL

O soul are you weary and troubled
No light in the darkness you see
There's light for a look at the Savior
And life more abundant and free

    Through death into life everlasting
He passed, and we follow Him there
Over us sin no more hath dominion
For more than conquerors we are

    Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace

His word shall not fail you, He promised
Believe Him and all will be well
Then go to a world that is dying
    His perfect salvation to tell

    Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace

  34. Life is but a moment in time. It does not last long or forever. It is like a puff of smoke -- here then gone. We feel so many different emotions daily and throughout our lives. These come from inside us, outside circumstances, and from things we do not comprehend (things unseen). As we get older our emotions change or grow, but don't leave us. If we stripped all our possessions from us, how would that change our emotions? Or would it? Why do we think we have the right to own things? To possess things? What makes us worthy? Are we worthy of anything? When you talk about tomorrow, what makes you think it will come? Just because tomorrow came yesterday, does not mean it will come again. Why do we work so hard today for tomorrow? For tomorrow is not promised. You work so hard to buy things in your life. At the end of your life, you have all these things you can't take with you, but what is inside your soul -- for that is what you have after life is ended? Will you be dead in things from your life, or will your soul be full of love for eternity? Remember, life in the flesh is momentary, but love in your soul is eternal.

Fix your eyes on Me, the One who never changes. By the time those waves reach you, they will have shrunk to proportions of My design. I am always beside you, helping you face today's waves. The future is a phantom, seeking to spook you. Laugh at the future! Stay close to me...
One year later, the then treacherous looking waves of unemployment, home for Keith, lost kitties, etc. are long resolved. Thank You Jesus. Amen.

  37. The devo today brought to mind an encounter I had with the Lord so many years ago. If I might share: I was weeding a huge asparagus patch on a hot, humid day. On my knees grumbling & cursing at the weeds, I would now & then look up & discouragement would flood over me at the jungle of weeds yet to be pulled. A pesky horsefly decided to make me the highlight of his day. Then almost audible, I heard the Lord say to me, " keep your eyes on the weeds just in front of you, focus on them, do not look up or around you or you will become overwhelmed." My whole attitude about weeding was transformed that day. The Lord wasn't finished, later that day, He also revealed that the horsefly represented the enemy, who will taunt you, attack you when you are the most vulnerable. " Turn our eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face, and the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory & grace". Amen.

  48. We are held in such loving Hands at all times. But we just must be aware of it. We must remain in the Presence of the Lord and not let worldly matters distract us from the peace that abides in us as He abides in us. I have felt the Hands of God on me in a lovely way because He knows I trust in Him. Everything will be okay, no matter the circumstances. As long as He is by my side, I can get through anything. If I am dropped in an ocean, He will help me swim. If the ground shakes below me, He will be my stronghold. His peace is a steadfast peace that permeates every part of me always and ever. I cast my cares upon Him because He loves me. I am a grateful sheep in His flock. He shelters me and calms my worried mind. I know He has a future for me and it will be sweet and bright, no matter what, so I will continue to walk hand in Hand knowing that each day ahead has been carefully and lovingly prepared for me. We are all blessed even in our trials because we belong to Him. Hallelujah!

Isaiah 26:3 - Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

Romans 15:13 - Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

Isaiah 12:2 - Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.

2 Thessalonians 3:16 - Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means. The Lord be with you all.

    Philippians 4:6-7
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Psalms 4:8 - I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.

I would encourage you not to entertain the enemy's attacks. Don't tolerate him dumping his garbage thoughts on you. NO WEAPON FORMED AGAINST YOU WILL PROSPER. So when those garbage thoughts arise, focus on what the WORD says about you and stand up to that scumbag, jealous, wanna be God who has already been defeated and SHOUT TO HIM: I AM A Child of the MOST HIGH GOD. I AM LOVED, REDEEMED AND RENEWED. I AM CHOSEN, BLAMELESS AND HOLY. I WAS BOUGHT AT A GREAT PRICE. GOD KNOWS ME THOROUGHLY AND YET LOVES ME COMPLETELY! HE HAS PLANS FOR MY FUTURE THAT INCLUDE HOPE, NOT HARM; BLESSINGS, NOT BANISMENT. I BELONG TO HIM. Remember the Lord ALWAYS causes us to TRIUMPH. We WIN because our God ALWAYS WINS!
