Jesus Calling: August 9

Wear My robe of righteousness with ease. I custom-made it for you, to cover you from head to toe. The price I paid for this covering was astronomical--My own blood. You could never purchase such a royal garment, no matter how hard you worked. Sometimes you forget that My righteousness is a gift, and you feel ill at ease in your regal robe. I weep when I see you squirming under the velvety fabric, as if it were made of scratchy sackcloth.
I want you to trust Me enough to realize your privileged position in My kingdom. Relax in the luxuriant folds of your magnificent robe. Keep your eyes on Me, as you practice walking in this garment of righteousness. When your behavior is unfitting for one in My kingdom, do not try to throw off your royal robe. Instead, throw off the unrighteous behavior. Then you will be able to feel at ease in this glorious garment, enjoying the gift I fashioned for you before the foundation of the world.

Isaiah 61:10
English Standard Version

I will greatly rejoice in the Lord;
my soul shall exult in my God,
for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation;
he has covered me with the robe of righteousness,
as a bridegroom decks himself like a priest with a beautiful headdress,
and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

Verse thoughts
God is the one who clothes us with righteousness, with salvation - "he has clothed me" and "he has covered me." Righteousness is given, not earned. We respond with greatly rejoicing in the Lord. We do not walk around and parade our righteousness, we instead walk around and give praise and honor to our Lord, our God. Yet, the clothing, the beautiful headdress and jewels is such a huge contrast from what we were like before being justified, being crowed with His righteousness.

2 Corinthians 5:21
English Standard Version

For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Verse thoughts
“Christ was not guilty, and could not be made guilty; but he was treated as if he were guilty, because he willed to stand in the place of the guilty. (Charles Spurgeon 1834-1892)" Jesus was not a sinner, but was treated as a sinner on the cross. Jesus took our sin, but gave us His righteousness.

Ephesians 4:22-24
English Standard Version

22 to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, 23 and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, 24 and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.

Verse thoughts
We will never be able to be righteous on our own, but after God has chosen us, we are to live our lives in such a way that it emulates righteousness. Our desire should be for righteousness - right living. I am to then put on daily (these clothes) of righteousness, why would I want to put on my old clothes - and yet I do. I continue to revisit sin that makes me appear unclean. My desire should always be to be seen in His righteousness.

  2. I read the app was glitchy and found this blog. Like how you have Bible passages written out here... easier than book, where you have to look up the scripture. Your blog has been a blessing to me since starting to use this devo in Sept. 2017 prior to heart surgery. Thanks for your thoughts and convenience as you are reaching many that Sara is not... and that's a good thing.

    1. @God’s Daughter, I was about to comment on this page for the first time and as I was scrolling down the page looking for where to comment, I accidently tapped my screen by Your comment. Crazy thing is, I saw the name ‘God’s Daughter’ and I used to use that exact user Id on Yahoo, as well as a couple others. And for that moment, I guess I somehow still thought or assumed that was still an ID of mine on here as well and literally set out to start my comment for today’s post of Jesus Calling August 9th! LoL! I am from Illinois in the states but lived in Ohio when I went by that Id! I don’t know where You are from, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE how God Assures Us, Even Yet While We Were All Still Sinners, Of Such An Amazing Confidence And Security Through Jesus Christ, there are so many of us whom He Makes To Know, With All Faith, That We Are, Indeed, God’s Daughters [and sons].

  17. Dear Heavenly Father, I am blessed and thankful to be in Your Presence this Sunday morning. Thank You that Jesus is my burnt offering. You have wrapped me in Your Righteousness from head to toe through Him who is the righteous One. Who Jesus is to You, I am. Who He is now, so am I. I am in Him. May I not stumble and dishonor Christ Jesus, but stand in gratitude of Your overflowing grace in my life. This great privilege granted to me, moves me to continually approach Your throne to receive mercy, forgiveness for my sins, and grace to help me. Your grace is sufficient! In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

The Bible states that Authority is a legitimate right, and God intended for mankind to have ‘authority/dominion, rule and reign over all the earth’ (Genesis 1:26). It also tells us that God has given us this, through faith, the highest positions that could ever be bestowed upon humans, and that God seeks to inform His children how truly special and privileged we are. We have every spiritual blessing in heavenly places.”(Ephesians 1:3). This is an encouragement to renew our minds to know what God has done in us (Rom. 12:2).
To those who believe in Christ, we have many honors and privileges. When we trust God enough to exercise our Privileged Position in Prayer as His children, as joint-heirs with Chris and subjects of the Kingdom of His Light and Love, the more glory we bring to God, and the more we receive (Hebrews 4:16). Prayer is not a burden, it is a great privilege. Peter says one of our privileges is to be priests of God (1 Peter 2:5). We are to pray, be a blessing to others and spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. May we do our part, because God will ALWAYS do His!

“But there is a great difference between Adam’s sin and God’s gracious gift. For the sin of this one man, Adam, brought death to many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of forgiveness to many through this other man, Jesus Christ.” (Romans 5:15).

“God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Corinthians 5:21).

Dear Father, Help us to remember who we are and what we have. Thank You for generously and graciously giving us a privileged position in Your Kingdom. Teach us to fully accept and act on this wonderful gift, to be disciples for Christ, reflecting all glory and honor to You. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

    Blessings and Peace.

  18. I have just found this site. I am usually the one praying for others but now have a deep need for healing prayer. My beautiful 43 year old daughter was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer at her first ever colonoscopy. She is a teacher and has 3 young children. Weeks later my second daughter who is single had severe pain and bleeding and is scheduled for a full hysterectomy. Our family is reeling but I believe in healing prayer and believe for healing for our daughters. They are both being seen at Mayo Clinic. They are teachers and are wondering how they can go back into the classroom this year. Thanks for any prayers you can give. God is good and His mercies endure forever!

  26. This doesn’t really have to do with today’s devo but wanted to share as I had never heard this before! My priest today spoke today about the Gaelic term CAOL AIT, which means “thin places”. We know God is everywhere but sometimes save trouble seeing Him because there is a “veil” between heaven and earth...Thin Places are times when that veil is thin and we feel especially close to God. This tied in perfectly to the 1st reading from 1Kings, where Elijah is standing on the mountain waiting for the Lord to pass by... first comes a hard wind, then earthquake, then fire...but the Lord was not in any of these! Then there was a tiny whispering sound and Elijah knew it was God! I think that was a thin place. I know I often find it hard to slow down and find that gentle whisper of the Lord but am trying to be more intentional with my time. Praying we all find a “thin place” today!
    Blessings to all!

We are still in online church mode, but God's whisper also snagged me when I heard the same gospel today. I guess that is why Psalm 46:10 tells us to
“Stand silent! Be still! Know that I am God! Much easier for me to read, than it is for me to do. Thanks for sharing The Word. Be blessed

    1. Brie, I love that Psalm as well! Thank you! We are able to attend mass but it is quite different now! Masks at all times or we can sit outside and they have a speaker so we can hear! We go inside (masked) for Eucharist only. Every other row is taped off. I say all this because I was someone who sort of dreaded getting up and moving on Sunday morning to go to mass, but always felt better afterwards and my week would just be better! I knew this so I always powered thru the getting moving part! The seemingly endless weeks of having to attend online church has truly given me a new appreciation for my church family! This JC family has been my life raft during the last months! God is good! I’m so thankful for y’all!,

  30. Dear warriors please pray. My sister Loretta passed away at 65 yrs.old. she went quickly after years of suffering from short term memory loss, wheelchair bound. She died loving the Lord & was at peace. Tomorrow I arrange her cremation. Her two children who are not saved will be with me. Please pray that I would be able to share their mothers faith with them, thereby pricking their heart to be open to inviting the Lord to move in and change their life. Loretta would've wanted that. Thank you warriors for prayers. Love & blessings to each of you💕

  34. “Filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God” (Philippians 1:11).

Loving Father, I am so blessed and thankful to once again be in Your presence. Thank You for this new day and all the gifts placed in it. May I not take any for granted, but acknowledge and glorify Your holy name. Thank You for loving me beyond my wildest dreams, that You sent Your only Son to take away my filthy garments, iniquity, transgressions and sin and cloths me with rich robes, Your robes of righteousness. The thought that I cost Jesus everything and too much, blows my mind away. Thank You Lord for the greatest gift of my life and for causing me to never again put on those filthy rags. I thank You for wrapping me in Your Righteousness through Jesus Christ the Righteous One. You are truly gracious, compassionate, abounding in love and faithfulness. May I keep walking in the path You’ve set before me and seek Your precepts with my eyes fixed on Jesus. This I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Christ has paid it all for us and we must embrace His sacrifice and see ourselves as clothed in a beautiful robe of the Righteousness that He is. Nothing or no one should cause us to define ourselves by our weak moments or mistakes and shame from the past. The stronghold of shame started at the beginning with Adam and Eve when they became disconnected from their perfect relationship with God the very moment they sinned (Gen. 3). But our merciful Father has removed our garments of shame and He sees each one of us as His redeemed children clothed in the righteousness of His Son, Christ Jesus! And this my friends, is great news! Let’s keep stepping in trusted faith with our new garment of righteousness in thankful gratitude to God our Father.

“The LORD is upright; he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him” (Psalm 92:15).

Redeemed- I just want you to know that you are not alone. Surely you know that you have the Father, Son and Holy Spirit with you always and forever. I do understand what you mean by alone, but the Bible says, “When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up” (Psalm 27:10). “….and be satisfied with your present [circumstances and with what you have]; for He [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!]” Hebrews 13:5 amp. Take courage in His Word and keep your eyes fixed on Jesus. I am praying with and for you. Nothing is impossible with our God. He is still in the healing business, the great Jehovah Rapha! Blessings to you.

NJS- Great, great news! So very happy to hear about God’s restoring power in your family! We should never underestimate the power that is God! He is the Alpha, the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the all Powerful Creator! The God of ALL possibilities! Continuing in prayers for you and your family and can’t wait to hear more testimonies to God’s glory! Remain blessed.

Jan- You and your family are in my prayers for God’s peace and comfort. Especially for you with the responsibility. May the Holy Spirit lead you in the direction that is best for the two children and His glory.

    Blessings and Peace.

    3. Thank you for those verses, Maplewood, of Psalm 27:10 and Hebrews 13:5. Going to think on those today and going forward...to remind myself of His presence with us ALWAYS...no matter what. While I have reached out to my mom to ask why the complete disconnect and dissing of me, I was able to express how that ghosting made me feel. Her reply was, "I didn't know what to say" to which, very flummoxed, I said, 'REALLY?' I suggested a simple text of "love you" or "missing you here" could have helped. As for the rest of my family, I'm leaning on God and His timing knowing He's in control. So blessed for your insight and teachings, Maplewood, and this supportive JC family!

  35. Dear JC friends, I have just re read my initial call for prayer for my dear daughters one year ago. What a year it has been with a year of chemo and surgery for one and hysterectomy for the other one. A year of working from home and schooling the children at home has now passed, and hopefully they will go back to school in the fall and both daughters will go back to teaching! I attribute this to the constant healing prayer which has also held me up. My daughter who has fought so hard against cancer has another scan next week. She has been off chemo since the beginning of the summer to be ready for her surgery. Will you please pray prayers of thanksgiving with me, that her scans show no evidence of disease and that her healing is full and complete. She is now reaching out to others who find themselves with colon cancer at a young age. God is so good and He Is Faithful! Also, please pray that I can now finally sleep well with less anxiety. God bless each one of you!

  48. Great devotion today! Such good advice for all of us. We all fall short of pleasing God, and we must try to follow the Spirit and put Him in the Center of our days. Pleasing Him is so much more important than pleasing ourselves. "When your behavior is unfitting for one in My kingdom, do not try to throw off your royal robe. Instead, throw off the unrighteous behavior". Amen.

  49. Please pray with us as we go and vote for presidential candidate today ! The country is clearily split into two each group rallying for their candidate! Ask the Lord to pour out a spirit of repentance on our nation, that we might become a nation committed to following His ways. "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart" (Jer. 29:13).
Pray that Kenya will repent of its corporate rejection of the Word of God as the basis of law. "How long will you who are simple love your simple ways? How long will mockers delight in mockery and fools hate knowledge? Repent at my rebuke! Then I will pour out my thoughts to you, I will make known to you my teachings" (Prov. 1:22–23).
Pray that a holy fear of God will sweep across our nation, leading us back to a place of wisdom and walking in the Lord. "Who among you fears the Lord and obeys the word of his servant? Let the one who walks in the dark, who has no light, trust in the name of the Lord and rely on their God" (Isa. 50:10).

    1. My daughter dated a guy who, initially, I liked. Slowly but surely his true colors emerged to the point that everyone saw these "colors" except my daughter. As a mom, we want to like who our kids like, right? I tried. He often would say derogatory comments about the college she went to, negative comments towards my daughter, etc or had to story-top whatever the topic of conversation was. I prayed and asked God to show me what it was that appealed to her and to help me see him in a different light...or that God would open her eyes to what we all saw. Well, God one-upped me, lol...I love when He does that! This guy ended up with his nose out of joint so to speak that my daughter was taking off in her field and career having secured a job before graduating and he was not going anywhere (he was 6 years older). He ended up breaking up with her. While she was initially upset and I consoled her...although my other half and I wanted to high-five each other, she slowly began to see the things this young man did and said without us saying anything. God was at work! I say this all to say hang in there and trust God that He will work things out. It was SO HARD to witness while they were in a relationship but stay strong and know God sees these things too and has a plan for good, Anonymous. Praying for you and your daughter's relationship with this young man. In Jesus' name, amen.

  53. I wish we could see ourselves through the Eyes of the Lord. We have been Redeemed. We are worthy because He has washed us clean. Why do we remember forgiven sins and even grab that old dirty garment and put it back over our forgiven shoulders. Our Loving Father tells us we are His beloved children, made anew by the Blood of His Son Jesus. We know we have been forgiven but we must also forgive ourselves. I told one woman at the nursing home who told me she just couldn't let go of a sin. I told her God had already let go of it completely so she must do so also. I told her to imagine a line in front of her. She must walk over the line and leave the sin behind. She must forgive herself because God has already forgiven her. She was bearing guilt and carrying this heavy burden for something that was already gone? We can't serve Jesus unless we lay everything at His feet in sincere repentance. We must do His will with a lighter load and trust in His Mercy. He has made all things right. We are worthy and we are deeply loved just as we are.

We trust Him and go through the journey. I am so grateful for all of your prayers for my daughter who had the hysterectomy (doing well), my daughter with colon cancer (after 2 surgeries and a year of chemo, is going back to teaching full time!), my year of slow recovery from benign brain surgery (last scan looked great!) and my son in law/s heart surgery. He still needs prayer as he has had ongoing medical issues and has been on medical leave from his job. God has provided him with a great employer who has been supportive and kept him on paid leave. Please pray that his migraines and heart issues are resolved and he can resume work SOON. Thank you so much. And I thank you for your supportive prayers. I never thought I would say that my immediate family would have had 7 surgeries in 20 months. We are a healthy group. We trust God and are so thankful for His faithfulness and the prayers of this group. I thank God for you all.

I have felt the angst of last Thurs drift away from me as I pray, thank God for all of YOUR prayers, give it to Him (multiple times a day) and stay thankful.
I've hopped on and off this site all day and I'm praying for each of you; giving thanks for all of our thankfulness for this site, for each other and most importantly, for our Loving Father and the only begotten Son that he gave for us. Without His example, where would I be? Continued prayers for each of you. Dear Brie - you are on my mind a lot, as is your brother, the care you provide, and your DH. Sassy Mom, I pray that God is lighting your path - each day - as you trust the Father to heal your heart and your family's hearts.
I think I played every song listed on today's posts. I just copied and pasted them on a new tab and when I had a lull in calls, I'd play one. My favorite of the day was God Will Take Care of You, by the Fairview Academy. That version was produced on 1/14/2018 and when I played it for my Best Man (he wiped tears - as a teacher it blessed him to see all of those young students praising God), I said, "Look! It was produced on your birthday!" He said, "Yes, when I was a young buck!" Precious man; such a tender heart.
Good Night, Loved Ones. Sleep sweet - I'll be reading in the morning. Please pray with us for continued stayed minds on His Word and calm hearts, as He leads us on.

    1. Praying you will soon get good news from the Oncologist. Put all your trust in the Lord and rest in Him. I really love that version of God Will Take Care of You too. Such beautiful young voices and musicians. Your best man sounds like a real sweetheart. Praying with you and for you. Good night dear sister and all our dear ones here. May God bless us with more answered prayers. Rest well and know we are well taken care of. God is on the Night Watch.

  57. Thank you JC Warriors for covering me in prayer. I have felt them all day. I have an ultrasound Thursday to get a closer look at the lump and plans in place depending on the outcome.

  58. He spoke and said to those who were standing before him, saying, "Remove the filthy garments from him." Again he said to him, "See, I have taken your iniquity away from you and will clothe you with festal robes." (Zechariah 3:4). I put on righteousness, and it clothed me; my justice was like a robe and a turban. (Job 29:14). It was given to her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and clean; for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints. (Revelation 19:8).

  59. Precious thoughts; His robe of Righteousness custom made to fit each one of us. We couldn't live in His Presence without His Royal Robe of Righteousness.

    King of kings, majesty,
God of heaven living in me,
    gentle Saviour, closest friend,
    strong deliverer, beginning and end,
all within me falls at your throne.

Your majesty, I can but bow,
I lay my all before you now.
In royal robes I don’t deserve
I live to serve your majesty.

    Earth and heaven worship you,
    love eternal, faithful and true,
who bought the nations, ransomed souls,
    brought this sinner near to your throne;
all within me cries out in praise.

Your majesty, I can but bow,
I lay my all before you now.
In royal robes I don’t deserve
I live to serve your majesty.
