Romans 16:21-24 - 21 Timothy, my fellow worker, greets you; so do Lucius and Jason and Sosipater, my kinsmen. 22 I Tertius, who wrote this letter, greet you in the Lord. 23 Gaius, who is host to me and to the whole church, greets you. Erastus, the city treasurer, and our brother Quartus, greet you. 24 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
Message: - Greetings from Paul's Associates
Time: Written in AD 57 from Greece, to the Christians, both Gentile and Jewish in Rome.
What the Lord is Saying:
After greeting people in the first 16 verses and calling out specific people that have worked alongside Paul and possible been responsible for taking the letter to the Romans church, Paul now mentions people, with him, that also send their greetings to this church. Seven men are mentioned. They are fellow workers, kinsmen, the one who wrote this letter, Paul's host, the city treasurer and our brother.
Paul and Timothy were together in ministry, in some way, for 20 years, from AD 47 to AD 67. Sunergos is the Greek word for fellow worker and Paul only uses this word for certain people that have an affectionate partnership with Paul. This is a team player.
Lucius, Jason, and Sosipater, were most likely closely friends to one another and close friends of Paul.
Tertius evidently was Paul's secretary or stenographer. Many think that at this time Paul may have been almost blind, hence needing someone to render this service. Gaius's house was probably where everyone met in the church.
Verse 24 is not found in the earliest manuscripts of this book.
Promise: We can be valued coworkers, relying on one another for fellowship and assistance in ministry. We need each other, and as we share in the family of the saints, we all benefit.
