Jesus Calling: December 14

Rest in Me, My child, forgetting about the worries of the world. Focus on Me--Emmanuel--and let My living Presence envelop you in Peace. Tune in to My eternal security, for I am the same yesterday, today, and forever. If you live on the surface of life by focusing on ever-changing phenomena, you will find yourself echoing the words of Solomon: "Meaningless! Meaningless! Everything is meaningless!"
Living in collaboration with Me is the way to instill meaning into your days. Begin each day alone with Me, so that you can experience the reality of My Presence. As you spend time with Me, the way before you opens up step by step. Arise from the stillness of our communion, and gradually begin your journey through the day. Hold My hand in deliberate dependence on Me, and I will smooth out the path before you.
Hebrews 13:8
English Standard Version
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

Ecclesiastes 1:2
English Standard Version
Vanity of vanities, says the Preacher,
vanity of vanities! All is vanity.

Proverbs 3:6
English Standard Version
In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.

My Prayer
Lord, I want to rest in you. Take the cares of this world from me.

  1. Heavenly Father, I start this day asking You to enter my heart, body, soul, mind and my will. I need You Lord. I need You to guide me through this day, having me set aside my will for Yours making You greater and myself smaller. As I get caught up in the day, I pray that I continue to acknowledge You and become dependent on what You desire in my heart.

    1. “Be still and know that I am God, supreme among the nations, supreme on the earth.” (Psalm 46). When we are willing to get stillness right, we will begin to see the power (love) of God at work throughout our life. When all we do is complain (the opposite of stillness), things will appear to be getting continually worse because we are making them worse. To follow today’s reading is to practice the stillness we are admonished to seek. God be with you. God be with us all.

    2. Unknown, you need to understand you are not unknown, you are Known by the Creator and Ruler of Heaven and Earth, King Jesus ! Read 2nd Corinthians 10:5 please read it in The King James version. Years ago I was so frustrated about my thought life, I was a believer but could not understand why I could not get this part under God's control! I asked the the Holy Spirit to help me. I opened the word and this scripture was given to me. Whenever my mind starts to go to a bad place as soon as I catch it I speak that verse out loud and then talk to Jesus. He has and will help always ! John 1:12 says - But as many as received Him, to them he gave he POWER to BECOME the sons of God,even to them that believe on his name ! GOD BLESS YOU IN YOUR WALK WITH HIM ! I hope this helps ! 4. Thank you brothers ALL! I pray God will continue to shape me in my journey to holiness. I want to get "stillness right". My intentions are good, starting out is easy, then distraction, and "mind chatter" and before I know it I focus on "the worries of the world". Help me to be still, to focus on the light and the love you provide . Amen.

  8. I am enjoying coffee, JC and praying for all you Saints. Prayers of thanksgiving, prayers of Hope, that the plans He has for each of us are to prosper us and not harm us.
My SIL did not get good news yesterday. Her faith is that of a child, though - she said, "I'm not giving up. And I'm not taking chemo." She ordered a tea that someone told her about that kills cancer. I asked if I could pray with her before we left yesterday and she readily agreed. My husband and I held her hands and I echoed many of the words I read on this site. I thank each of you for sharing your hearts.
Today was supposed to be my baking day with my Daughters in Law and Grands. One by one, they have all cancelled, the last one late last night when she texted to say that she has been sick since Wed. My heart did not shatter, my mind did not collapse. I am just shifting gears and today I will make the brew for my SIL, which has to steep for 12 hours. We'll take it to her tomorrow.
My prayer is that today's stillness will renew my energy and conviction to let this Christmas play out as He intends, not me.
CO, you and your husband are in my prayers. I loved the way Jan and JJ and each person on here did not see his stumble as the have all to end all, but rather as just that - a stumble and that he can get right back on that wagon.
Praising God for little Jairo's renewed health and praying the same for my loved ones who are down with the crud. Heal them, Lord, and let them rejoice in your Power.
Maplewood, I can feel your excitement jumping off the page, grateful for a new day. Thank you.
God Bless each of you - we are in His mighty Hands.

  9. Good morning, JC prayer warriors. As I sip coffee under my favorite blanket listening to the fire crackle (yes, it does get a bit nippy down here in Houston), I count my blessings beginning with you all. Praying for all of our challenges and thanking Him for them for we would not be in line for blessings without them.
Norah- extra prayers going out for your SIL today.
CO- keep putting one step in front of the other.
I hesitate to name names for all of you whom I'm praying for because I don't want to leave anyone out but please know that I go back to previous posts and pray for all of you even if you don't ask.
Today is our monthly Blue Buffet feast for my son in law's station at HPD. It's the big Christmas dinner for the officers who serve NW Houston and our way of giving back and saying thanks. Please pray for all first responders who put their lives on the line and quite often can't be with their families during celebrations.
Last night Kyle (my SIL) found a 90 year old lady who couldn't find her way home. Kyle found out where she lived and escorted her home. He stayed off of freeways so she could follow him to SW Houston. For those of you who don't know, Houston is HUGE and this took an hour and a half just to get her home. Then he had to his station and was two hours late getting home which is not unusual.
Love, peace and joy to you all!

  10. As I sit here this morning reading all of the comments from my JC family I am humbled and excited about how AWESOME our GOD is! Just two months ago I was all over the place in my thoughts and feeling sorry for myself (and not realizing it). Today I am encouraged by the Scriptures but TRULY GRATEFUL for Proverbs 3:6 even adding verse 5, because that is what it took for me, to get out of whatever the combination I was in to make me hope to be in heaven sooner than I should. Just reading those verses together: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths,” I felt a sense of PEACE I hadn't felt in a long time, and it reminded me JESUS never changes, and he never leaves us, however sometimes our thoughts take us far away from HIM, but nevertheless when the Spirit brings us back, we realize he was there all the time, right where we left him. I pray for each of you and touch and agree with ALL of you for the names mentioned today! WE ARE GOD'S CHILDREN AND NO GOOD THING WILL HE WITHHOLD FROM US! I am soooooo very grateful for this JC blog and each of you! I pray you have a blessed beyond measure productive and restful day!

I like that Jeff H. and I understand Suzanne, I too hesitate to name names because everyone here is in need and I don't mean to leave anyone out. I read, like you, the day before and pray for everyone but there are a good number of warriors that share so much of themselves and it gives me hope and pray like I never will that many times bring tears to my eyes. God's daughter, I too, am soooooo grateful for this blog. You know who you are so very highly favored by our Lord and Savior and I thank you. 13. Woke up today full of anxiety. I’m turning 64 tomorrow, have been thinking a lot about my life
Choices I made, people from the past, the Could of and the should ofs etc
Married for 35 years ....last few years have not been the greatest. Without going into detail I have big trust issues ... I pray every morning and do my readings and ask God to help me ....
Most days He does, actually all days He does
But ...and there’s always that “but” I still struggle with doubt and anger ....I believe in the sanctity of my marriage vows, but ( there it is again) I’m reaching a pointl where I won’t accept being treated a certain way....
I’m ranting but felt a need to post something to get it out where it’s not renting so much space in my head....I thank you all for your posts and prayers
    God Bless and Merry Christmas

    4. John I am praying now that you will feel a shift in your thoughts concerning your "buts" that you will not allow the evil one to destroy all the good in your life. That your focus will be upward and your view will indeed change, soften and find rest. I understand the "buts" they plague me as well...so much to be thankful for.."but" & " if only"...that's Sin and Satan working towards destruction. I often say outloud " Not today Satan, or Not in my marriage, not in my family , not in my relationships etc. You are not welcome there for I am a holy child of God" The word of God changes our discontent to praise as well. God bless you

You can't change the past and your circumstances but you can change the way you respond to them. The best way is the way Himself, Our Lord Jesus Christ. He knows every details and love you unconditionally. Rest in Him, talk to Him about everything. Declare His Peace, healing and restoration over your circumstances and believe He has already given them to you, because it's the Truth, we walk by faith and He's always right there holding our hand.

    7. Good morning John! I agree that talking to God will help you. I also know from experience that a good marriage counselor and honest conversation with your wife can do wonders for the sunset phase of a marriage. You are 64 years young! There is much joy and love and intimacy ahead, should you decide how to approach it in a healthy and spiritually filled way. Sometimes we need a little help beyond prayer. God bless you and guide you in the master of your marriage. Happy birthday!

    8. John, Thanks for posting and I wish you a very happy 64th Birthday. Your priorities are in the right place as you sincerely seek Him in your life and read His Word. The strength of your faith is in your continual devotion to Him. I’m sorry you’re not being treated as you would want to be in your marriage. Sometimes we have to change our own actions, words and attitude towards our spouses and try to offer them more understanding and loving kindness and then our relationships can improve. Give it all to God. He knows exactly how to make things right.

  16. Good morning dear family, asking for prayers for Joe and Julie today both on ventilators with covid. Its shocking to me the wide spread of this disease. I am greatful for Gods solution coming soon I pray. My husband Tony having surgery Thursday in His sinuses, I am trying to remain at peace & trust He is in quarantine for these days before. We are both feeling afraid and are praying for Gods protection from covid especially during this time. Time for a praise report!
Praise for the work The Lord is doing in my sons life as slowly and gently Dan seems to be more open to us, we are greatful for every opening as we tread lightly in love, trying to stay unoffended when things dont move or turn out the way we would like. Trying to stay peaceful in the yet to be revealed, in Gods timing. Greatful for all the unseen works that we know the good Lord is tending to and ok with the unknown for we leave it in the good care of Our Lord. Father we love how you love us perfectly. God bless all of you who are so very valuable as you represent Jesus Here on earth. I love all of you and am praying for each of you giving great thanks for each and for the filling you all supplied when I was feeling empty. 20. A JJ Update: First of all I was THOROUGHLY HUMBLED by ALL the prayers by the JC Warriors---all posters and readers! This JC Family is is just the best, beside our Lord of course! I applied all your prayers from the crown of my head to the soles of my feet and WOW! The Lord's presence was overwhelming! So, the Doctor found a mass with CT and sonogram images. He believes it is benign. Does want to do a procedure for draining and biopsy on January 6th. So, this is my decree for each of you and myself --- No evil will befall me neither shall any plague come near my dwelling. For You have given Your angels over me. They keep me in all my ways. In my pathway is life, healing and health. (Psalm 91:10,11; Prov.12:28) I continue intercessory prayer of each JC Warrior, each need. each journey, and my beloved America and World. The Lord has a GREAT PLAN ready. Hang on to your hats---a December to remember. And, satan, Let's get this clear, with our Godlike faith you have NO AUTHORITY or POWER over us. And NO Authority IN THIS PLACE!!! I command you and your demon forces of darkness, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ to LEAVE our presence! I bring the blood of Jesus Christ between the devil and our families, our homes, our finances, our spirits, our bodies and these United States of America!!! In Jesus' name. I am just a lover of my Lord chasing after righteousness through intercessory prayer. Also, my Dear Jan, a Very Blessed Birthday to you! And John S. a Blessed Birthday for you. The apostle Paul writing to his young intern, Timothy

I am deeply grateful to our Lord Jesus Christ (to whom I owe all that I have accomplished) for trusting me enough to appoint me his minister, despite the fact that I had previously blasphemed his name, persecuted his Church and damaged his cause. I believe he was merciful to me because what I did was done in the ignorance of a man without faith, and then he poured out his grace upon me, giving me tremendous faith in, and love for, himself. This statement is completely reliable and should be universally accepted:—“Christ Jesus entered the world to rescue sinners”. I realise that I was the worst of them all, and that because of this very fact God was particularly merciful to me. It was a kind of demonstration of the extent of Christ’s patience towards the worst of men, to serve as an example to all who in the future should trust him for eternal life. (I Timothy 1:12-16 (PHILLIPS))

No one knows who wrote God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen; it is believed to have originated from commoners in the fifthteenth century who were uninspired by the dark, somber, music being used in worship at that time. Thus, they created their own more upbeat music to reflect their joy in their faith much to the chagrin of the church leadership. Because of its upbeat rhythm and positive tone, it caught on quickly and passed the test of time.

Ace Collins, in his book Stories Behind the Best-loved Songs of Christmas published by Zondervan, contends that we miss the meaning of the first verse because we apply our own understandings to the words. In its time of origin, the words had a very different meaning. To be Merry meant to be ‘mighty’ and not ‘happy’ as we understand (Robin Hood’s Merry Men were not happy but mighty). The word Rest meant to ‘keep’ or to ‘make’. Finally, Collins points out that in order for it to have its true meaning in our day, a comma needs to be inserted after Merry. With this understanding of words and correct punctuation, the opening line should be understood to mean, ‘God make you mighty, gentlemen’ (gentlewomen is assumed as well). From this perspective, the carol has a strong evangelical message for it becomes all about salvation through the Son of God by name (vs 2) from Satan’s pow’r when we were gone astray. Though created in the image of the triune God to be mighty in love, we have traded our ‘mightiness’ for self-orientation much in the same way Paul told Timothy he had done in the scripture above. But the LORD, in His infinite mercy, stooped down in Christ the Savior to lift us out of the grip evil has on us. With the LORD’s work on our behalf comes the glorious last verse, Now to the Lord sing praises...And with true love and brotherhood each other now embrace. This is the result of being ‘mighty’, in love again for which we were originally created.

Side note: this carol was included by Charles Dickens in his writing of Christmas Carol when the carolers sang it at the door of Scrooge. With the above understanding, were they actually praying for Scrooge and his salvation from Satan’s grip? If so, would you say their prayers were heard? Would you consider the outcome of the story, Scrooge’s conversion similar to Paul’s above? Yes, I know Jesus’ name never appears literally but His spirit pervades the whole story.

Here is a version by Pentatonix which I think the commoners from whom this carol originated would have delighted in (I just wish they had included the last verse, the glorious result of it all.)

Thanks for the up-to-date synopsis of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. There is so much spiritual wealth in many of the older carols and hymns that we miss today due to the changes of meaning in our language. The first recognized English hymn is probably 'Caedmon’s Hymn'. Written in the Saxon language some time between 658 and 680 AD. Here's a translation into Modern English (from wikipedia):
"Now we must honour the guardian of heaven, the might of the architect,
and his purpose, the work of the father of glory as he, the eternal lord,
      established the beginning of wonders.
He, the holy creator, first created heaven as a roof for the children of men.
Then the guardian of mankind, the eternal lord, the lord almighty,
afterwards appointed the middle earth, the lands, for men." Amen.

  27. Heavenly Father, thank You for always letting me be in Your presence. You instill Your perfect peace within me. You give me everything that I need and Your Presence goes with me wherever I am. Remind me of Your holy presence. Thank You for letting me rest in Your sovereignty. You are God Almighty. Help me to keep my focus on You and not the things of this world. Let me not get caught up in the happenings all around me, but let me keep You the center of my life. You are the same; yesterday, today, and always. The things of this world are constantly changing, including our problems, but You always remain the same. We can always rely and depend on You Lord. You are always there for us. This world is not for us, but is often against us. You are our refuge and strength. Let us run to Your open, loving arms and take shelter in them. Thank You Jesus. I praise You Lord always.Thank You for all my benefits and blessings. In Jesus name, I pray, Amen.

  28. The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil. (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14). He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? (Micah 6:8). Everyone who is called by My name, Whom I created for My glory, Whom I formed and made." (Isaiah 43:7). Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. (Colossians 3:23-24).

  31. Inextricably, irrevocably, mutually, melded and intertwined, we with Him, the Father and each other.
John 17:21, "that they may all be one. As you, Father, are in me and I am in you, may they also be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me".
When Jesus is praying that we "may be one", he is praying for our collegiality; he's praying that we will be of one mind and united in spirit for one purpose with each other, with Him and with the Father.

  35. Welcome, Mystic67 - we will be praying for you! SO thankful, JC Fam - for this day, this season. I haven't had this much peace during the Holidays for many years. What is the difference? The Spiritual Maturity that I have been praying for. I'm letting things go; I'm diligently deciding every day to not OVER THINK; I'm giving it all to God and resting in His Peace.
One of our Grandsons was diagnosed positive with COVID today. Please pray with me, for him and his Family. Long Story, but he was sent back to his Dad who has a blended family of 8 b/c his birth Mom won't miss work. My oldest son was outraged, but he and his wife will quarentine with all of their large family. We won't know until just before 12/24 whether or not they'll be able to join us. So, I pray and as I told them, "Dad and I have the most flexible schedule. We can be available anytime. Between that and Baby Girl, due 12/22, crazy work issues (no computer today until 3:30), the best thing I can do is give it all to God. And that's what I'm doing. He has my right hand; He will keep me in perfect Peace. So, as I lay my head to sleep, I will pray for all of you and trust that tomorrow I'll be FULLY EQUIPPED to handle all of this. Love and Blessings to you, my JC Family.

  39. Although I’ve been reading and posting on this forum for years, I took a break when realized I was not nurturing my spiritual growth. I would read JC everyday but I wasn’t taking the next step to apply the messages to my days. My fault. I was so caught up in being a Martha in my everyday life that I was “living on the surface of life”. I wasn’t staying connected to the vine.

I was laid off two days before thanksgiving this year which gave me the opportunity to rethink and reorganize my priorities.

I realized that I don’t want to just live on the surface of life and have meaningless relationships. I want to feel the closeness of Jesus in my heart. I can’t nor do I want to live without Him. I have all the faith and truly believe that my savior will guide me down the next path that He has planned for me.

    So, I’m baaaaack! LOL
Peace to all of you and as always, stay connected to the vine.

My week is flying by and today I go for my one week check up on my cataract surgery. This morning, I committed to 'changing my mind and quit grumbling,' about eye drops 5 times a day. Small price for clear vision. Two of our Littles helped decorate the tree last night. It was sweet and they took great pleasure in seeing their Daddy's and Uncle's home made ornaments from years ago.
I walked away from a messy kitchen and went to bed. So thankful for sweet sleep and a renewed mind to enjoy this day.

Thank You kindly for You New Mercies today. I ask Your Forgiveness because I miserably failed at activating yesterday's devotion...Take the time to be holy...to take the time to watch what was coming out of my mouth before I spoke; to take a pause for the sake of God' Cause.
I know at my end, at Your Judgement, You won't ask me about, care about, nor judge me on what came out of somebody else's mouth. But only what came out of mine.
Please forgive me. Only with Your New Mercy, Your Forgiveness, and Your Help, can I aspire to do better today at actually living out Your Word in this world. In Jesus' Name, I ask Forgiveness, Mercy and HELP! Amen.

I told her I was there to give her a hug and I visited with her and our Little Lu, who is YEARS beyond her 7, soon to be 8. We all agreed we'd see GGma Linda again, but the pain for now is so very real and present. We talked about how God is with us during this sad time and when we see her again, she'll be whole and healthy. Our Son said, "She's seen waay too much - she was there when they took her body out." But our Little is sound in her young belief. I taught her the difference between being "sad," and being "maudlin," and then told her what maudlin means (as my son said - she's way beyond her years - she got the difference). They are all such loving people and as Lu said, "I think she wanted to go, Nonnie - I could tell." WOW. 7 going on 70, in wisdom and grace.
Jeannie, I'm praying for your results - when will they come in? So much love and thankfulness for all of you.

Our devotion reminds us to begin each day alone with Him, so that we can experience the real nearness of His Presence. As we spend time in NEARNESS with Him, the way before us opens up step by step by step by step by...
To celebrate the 14th day of this celebratory month, I plan to give Jesus "N" gifts of NEARNESS in the here and NOW, whether waking, sleeping, laughing, weeping, naughty or nice. I will try my best to live out today as though Jesus is in the room, because He Is! Come Holy Spirit, I NEED You. Please hasten to my aid. In the NAME of Jesus. Amen!

  52. Lord plant my feet on higher ground:
I'm pressing on the upward way
New heights I'm gaining every day
Still praying as I onward bound
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground

… Lord, lift me up, and let me stand
    By faith on heaven's tableland
A higher plane than I have found
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground

… My heart has no desire to stay
Where doubts arise and fears dismay
Though some may dwell where those abound
My prayer, my aim, is higher ground

… So Lord, lift me up, and let me stand
    By faith on heaven's tableland
A higher plane than I have found
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground

… I want to live above the world
Though Satan's darts at me are hurled
For faith has caught a joyful sound
The song of saints on higher ground

… So Lord, lift me up, and let me stand
    By faith on heaven's tableland
A higher plane than I have found
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground

… So Lord, lift me up, and let me stand
    By faith on heaven's tableland
A higher plane than I have found
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.

  58. Driving to White Plains to a baby shower this afternoon and as today’s devotion ends with: “Hold My hand in deliberate dependence on Me, and I will smooth out the path before you.” I sure will hold on tight to His Unchanging Hand. All will be well because our good and faithful Father holds our reins. Thank You Jesus!

    Isaiah 41:13
For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.

    1. Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am lowly and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (Matthew 11:28-30).

    2. You fed me well, sweet sister! Thanks! Praying you’re feeling good and God is helping you as you try to quit smoking. Cutting down is good too. Love you.

  60. For the consideration of all Prayer Warriors:
I'm sharing a picture (vision?) that I received in my alone time with the Lord, just over a week ago.
It wasn't a one time download but came in sections over a few days.
It was a picture of a tunnel, a large blue transparent as glass tunnel, (you could drive a bus through) stretching away into the distance; down through all the years and generations to come - each generation was like a smaller tunnel branching off the main tunnel down through to the end of time.
Thoughts of Isaiah 54:1 came to mind:
    Isaiah 54:1
"Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back; lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes. For you will spread out to the right and to the left; your descendants will dispossess nations and settle in their desolate cities."
Praying for those alive now to be saved is prayer on a 2D horizontal plane. 3D praying adds the dimension of time.
The Lord said to me "Take the long view - through the tunnel of time to the last generation."
This is praying down the generational line of our families, relatives and friends.
The Lord also said "Pray for those not yet born, the generations to come of those you pray for, to be saved."
So Pray for those yet to be born of your family's, relatives and friends that they will grow up having a heart of flesh being enabled to respond in repentance to the Holy Spirit as He convicts of sin, so that they will be saved.

    2. Amen, thank you Peter. This reminds me of years ago when my sister was praying for her daughter's future husband, who the daughter had not yet met. She is engaged now to a man of Christian faith and due to be wed in January.

God's Blessings for all this day.

Amen to your scriptures, Janet. A great way to view/believe for my day. I'm praying for your safe travels, Jeanne and a peaceful heart.

  63. My husband made a delicious dinner and I feel so much better. I'm 1 day before my third son's due date! Wow! Prayers appreciated!

I had a scare yesterday because I fell! But, praise the Lord, everything/everyone is okay <3

I hope and pray that everyone and their families are doing well. I pray for the Holy Spirit's help to draw near to Him. In Jesus' name. Amen 🙏

  64. You are very close to your delivery date, Free as can be. So good that you are feeling better and that you are being taken care of. The fall must have caused quite a bit of concern. It’s more difficult to look after yourself when you have other children to take care of, speaking as a mother of four grown sons 🙂. Praying with you that the Holy Spirit draws you close to Him and that you continue to grow in the Lord and experience His goodness and loving kindness each day. God bless 🙏🏻
