Jesus Calling: December 5

Let My Presence override everything you experience. Like a luminous veil of Light, I hover over you and everything around you. I am training you to stay conscious of Me in each situation you encounter.
When the patriarch Jacob ran away from his enraged brother, he went to sleep on a stone pillow in a land that seemed desolate. But after dreaming about heaven and angels and promises of My Presence, he awoke and exclaimed, "Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it." His discovery was not only for him but for all who seek Me. Whenever you feel distant from Me, say, "Surely the Lord is in this place!" Then, ask Me to give you awareness of My Presence. This is a prayer that I delight to answer.
Psalm 31:20
English Standard Version
In the cover of your presence you hide them
    from the plots of men;
you store them in your shelter
    from the strife of tongues.

Genesis 28:11-16
English Standard Version
11 And he came to a certain place and stayed there that night, because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones of the place, he put it under his head and lay down in that place to sleep. 12 And he dreamed, and behold, there was a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven. And behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it! 13 And behold, the Lord stood above it and said, “I am the Lord, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac. The land on which you lie I will give to you and to your offspring. 14 Your offspring shall be like the dust of the earth, and you shall spread abroad to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south, and in you and your offspring shall all the families of the earth be blessed. 15 Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land. For I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.” 16 Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it.”

My Prayer
Be in me God. Overwhelm me. You are present with me. Remind me during the day that your Light is there, over me. Your Spirit is near, prompting me and showing me how You are relevant to every situation of my life. There are times I don't think You are near, but you remind me, like you reminded Jacob that You are present. Surely the Lord is in this place. Help me to remember Lord that with you near, the events of my life take on a different meaning and I can rest in your providence, abiding love, and confidence.

    1. I am so sorry for your loss and this pain you will now have for your life. In my experience there is no answer to the “why” question. It has been asked for years by many people for situations like this. Pain in life is the result of sin. The good news is Tyonna is no longer experiencing pain. As you now live, cling to Him who died for sin so we all could live pain free as Tyonna now lives. Seek comfort in others. Let love live. Be there for others. They will need you.

    1. Yes Lord, for many years I vusualize my children and wife in a beam of Your light when praying for them... but for whatever reason not a self-visualization. But I now know that Your enveloping light of love has been around me forever, but even more so, in this past month by the power of those praying for me. THANK YOU Father, Son. And Spirit.

God, Your light is with me here and there,
Even years later when insomnia is in the air,
Jacob found you there asleep upon a rock,
I cherish where I am, as You're there 'round the clock.

      Amen.

    2. Amen dear MadFox! He is with us around the clock and we are always surrounded by His brilliant light and sweet peace. When I read today’s devotion it meant so very much to me. When I was in the OR and they were prepping me for my heart procedure a song we sing in Choir started playing in my head by the grace of God. Surely the Presence of the Lord is in this place. I can feel His mighty power and His Grace.
It soothed me right down to my soul. He is always at my side.

    4. Surely, the Lord is in this place, wherever we are! It is a promise that can't be broken. How simple it seems that we need only to be reminded, yet how easy it is to not remember. In joy, in love, in sorrow, in pain, He is with us. Thank you Jesus, help us all remember each moment of our days. And also in our nights, where we are grateful for pillows softer than stone 🙏♥️

  6. I am humbled by the first sentence of today’s reading. Far too many times I have let experiences override His Presence. Today’s gospel lesson is the feeding of the 5000, a classic example of His followers allowing circumstances to override His Presence (and to think they just watched Him heal so many people ???). “We don’t have the means to deal with this problem”, and obviously they didn’t think He did either. That’s why you and I are here, to be reminded again and again and again...until this sinks deep within us and becomes a part of who we are. The disciples eventually got it...and we will too. That is why we are here, to learn to expect divine intervention because of His love and compassion.

  11. Norah- read your blog yesterday. I too can slip into a "funk" like that. Christmases for a lot of us has changed over the years. Commercialism, materialism, name it, it's out to take away the "reason for the season"! It upsets me. I feel robbed. Sooo, I cushion all of it by simply praising the Lord, before I pop out of bed, I turn on worship songs by way of my smart phone, before you know it the evil one & all the darkness he brings just lifts & vanishes into thin air. You see when we utter worship words with our lips & proclaiming the power & greatness of our God the enemy cannot stand to hear it, it's excruciating to them, especially when they hear your tongue express it. So sing Norah! Declare His goodness! Proclaim the splendor & everlasting beauty of Jesus! Love you Sister🥰

    1. Love the story of Esther. It's still teaching me that God's timing is everything. I tend to hurry the Lord, because my flesh wants instant answers, gratifications. Looking back I see why things & circumstances have to line up. For the Glory of the Most High first & foremost, then to build my faith as I wait on the Lord. Thank You Jesus!

Dear Jan, Last year I led my Bible group through a study of Women in the Bible and we loved Esther too. He is using every one of us and we are blessed to be able to serve such a great God! But it is all in His divine timing that His plan for us will unfold.

Loveconquersall - praise God grandsons are doing better! They are marvelous gifts from God.
Sassy Mom - I know it is late, but I have your sister in Christ in my prayers!
Norah - I read your post from yesterday. Saying prayers for you. Jesus is with you through every moment of every day. AS the devotion said today, "Let My Presence override everything you experience." You are entitled to your feelings, and they are completely understandable, but keep reminding yourself God is with you.
I'm feeling a bit emotional tonight as I prepare to fly home tomorrow after spending several days with my son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren. I was given the opportunity to watch a miracle happen before my eyes---the birth of my granddaughter. I am blessed and thankful to have been able to fly to them, and now need to count my blessings instead of feeling sad about going home. Thank you Lord, for everything! CO

Loving Father, It’s another great day to say thank You. May my heart’s love for You be the aim of all my actions today, and seek satisfaction only in fulfilling Your will, give more of myself to You, and whatever I do, I desire for all to be done for the glory of Your Kingdom. Help me to train my eyes to see little kindnesses as gifts through Your great presence in all things. May I always be reminded that just as You are present in the simple things, You are in the grand and great. May I find a stopping point today in which to rest in You. Thank You that it is only through the cross and resurrection of Jesus that a way into Your presence and the gift of the Holy Spirit living within me is made possible.
May the sick and shut-in recieve a special visit from You, that will fill their spirit with Your love, peace, strength and restoration to their health, giving them more reasons to testify of Your glory. May those that are mourning find comfort and peace in the joy of Your Holy Presence. I honor You this day, in Jesus’ name.

    Blessings and Peace.

Surely the Presence of The Lord is in this place
I can feel His Mighty Power and His Grace
I can hear brush of His Angel’s Wings
I see glory on each face
Surely the Presence of the Lord is in this place

In the midst of His children the Lord said He would be
    It doesn’t take very many
It can be just two or three
And I feel that same sweet spirit that I’ve felt so many times before
Surely I can say I’ve been with the Lord
    (REPEAT CHORUS)
There’s a holy hush around us as His glory fills this place
I’ve touch the hem of His Garment
I can almost see His Face
And my heart is overflowing with the fullness of His Joy
I know without a doubt I’ve been with the Lord

  23. Good morning, JC Family. My apologies for not posting in the blog over the past week. While I was away from home, I attempted a few posts using my iPad but they would not go through. Now I am home, I think my computer will let my posts go through (I'll see when I hit the publish button).

I also have not posted because I am not sure I had anything Spirit-led at this time and I do not want to post my personal opinions. I have entered into Advent by reading the book of Isaiah. I am being humbled by what I am reading and again do not feel in a spiritual state to making my time before the Lord available for now. I somewhat have the feeling of Zechariah when he was muted for the time period as he awaited the birth of his son, John (the Baptist). But in sharing this with MadFox this AM, he encouraged me to say something thus I am attempting this post. I am with you and will post thoughts again as the Spirit directs.

God be with you. With love, Bob

  28. You are such a dear, good daughter, Jeanne! I lost my mom in 1996. I can't even imagine cooking for her, helping her decorate, praying for her to ear the 'right' food. She would be in her 90's now. She was such a lovely woman. Impeccable home and body - at all times! She never slacked, never gave up - always demanded the utmost of herself. I got more of my 'Nana's' genes. Mom used to say, "You could light her behind with a match and she'd take her time putting it out!' God made all of us to be just who we are. You, Jeanne, are so giving, sleep little and demand the most of yourself. I love you! Can't even imagine painting a 'small pretty painting.' WOW! I, on the other hand, have loaded my dishwasher, prepped some ground beef in the crock pot for tomorrow's chili and looked in on JC for 12/5. Heading to bed a thankful woman. I think I smiled more today than I have in weeks, thanks to our small hometown Christmas Play. Praying for each of you as I go to sleep. God is on the Night Watch. <3

  33. Second Sunday in Advent

“The voice of one crying out in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. (Luke 3:4)

Today, the second candle on the Advent wreath is lit.  The wreath is becoming a little brighter and the room has a little more light.  After a week of Advent reflections, it is a sign that His light is coming upon us.  The second candle is often called the candle of PEACE; when HOPE increases PEACE begins to happen. Traditionally, John the Baptist and his calling to Prepare Ye the Way of the LORD is the focus.  There is a hymn in the Advent section of the hymnal entitled Prepare the Way but when you hear the words, Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord this song probably comes to mind.

"Prepare Ye (The Way of the Lord)" from Godspell by Stephen Schwartz
    https://youtu.be/8E5VHT3kfQ0

Personally, I like this rendition of the words John quoted from Isaiah.  I feel Stephen Schwartz in his composing of this music reflected the joy of the moment when people repented of their sins, their failures in showing love.  During the course of my 42 years of ministry, I have sadly watched the acts/prayers of confession cease to become a part of the worship experience.  It is said, ‘they are too negative and turn people off’.  Quite to the contrary,  an honest look within myself and admission of thoughts/words/acts that have not loved others as I have been created to do, is a liberating exercise.  For when I have faced the reality of how I have hurt people by my self-centeredness, then and only then, is there hope that I can be different, that I can be more loving.  Here are a few well spoken thoughts from my readings this morning, from Mother Mary Franis of Our Lady from her book Come, Lord Jesus: Meditations on the Art of Waiting:

The LORD has thrown all our faults and our sins into the sea, let us not put on the diving equipment of pride and go right down and bring them up again.

There is something in all of us that would like to pretend that we do not need to be forgiven, and this is why we sometimes get so excited about our faults, why we cannot be simple, why we will not stop rocking that little spiritual monster-child that we cuddle so, that we do not want snatched from us, that we do not want laid to Christian burial.  We want to keep looking at it and in the end we convince ourselves that it is beautiful.  Or the other alternative is to say that this isn’t my child; it is somebody else’s.  We are adept at choosing one of those two alternatives which save us from being forgiven…

The honest admission of our faults gives glory to God, so there is no reason to be discouraged because no matter how many faults the light of Jesus brings into focus in our hearts, everything honestly faced can give honor to Him by allowing Him to forgive us.  Now isn’t that wonderful?

This is why I think Schwartz got it right in the opening of Godspell, because repentance and forgiveness of sins is anything but negative.  It is like a shower (think of your baptism) after a hot sweaty activity, it makes one feel good but more importantly, it makes one more pleasant to be around.  Even greater is the change of heart (repentance) so that more loving behaviour is who we are thus making us more pleasant to be around which ultimately glorifies God.

    Happy Second Sunday of Advent!

    With love, Bob

  34. Yes, Amen, Surely the Lord is in this place. He lives, He reigns within us, reaching out to those we come into contact with throughout each day, even if we are unaware of it. There is nowhere we can be out of His Presence as we read in Psalm 139.
    We walk in His Light.
Ever wondered why someone gets tears in their eyes when we are speaking with them about ordinary things? Maybe a shop assistant who we approach to find an item, while speaking we see tears appear in their eyes.
That is the Holy Spirit reaching out of us ( where He lives) to touch that persons life.
When you see that, ask God for a Rhema Word there and then. If you are not given anything from Him to say to that person, it's ok, He knows what He is doing, just add that person to your prayer list. God through the Holy Spirit will continue working in that person's life in whatever their need is, salvation, healing or other needs.
I think of daily devotions as soaking in Him, consciously absorbing Him, filling up our 'God tank'. Like a sponge soaks up liquid, so we absorb Him as we spend time alone in His Presence. Like Manna, which mostly was only good for one day, so too we need at least a daily soaking.
As we then get involved with the rest of the day, we slowly 'leak' Him out to those folk we come into contact with. As Bob Malsack mentioned one time the quote attributed to Francis of Assisi "Preach the Gospel, use words if necessary". 'Leak' Joyfully today.

I was with my little Gabriel on Saturday and we had a wonderful time making ornaments and being silly, and he spent a lot of time fixing my hair. Well last morning, I found out my son and his wife were going to see some friends who have children and they tested Gabriel because he had a runny nose, and he was positive for Covid. This is terrible timing. Thank God he doesn't have a fever and he seems okay. But I've been exposed to Covid now and I have my biopsy on Dec. 14th. I've been praying all day for God to heal him and keep the rest of the family well, and to make a way for me to get my biopsy surgery. I know I must just lean on His faithfulness and make good decisions. Rick and I will take a test on Thursday. I will call my surgeon today and tell him that I've been exposed to Covid. Don't know what will happen. It's all in God's Hands. But I am resting in Him. Praying we all get our prayers answered.
