Jesus Calling: December 16

I am speaking in the depths of your being. Be still, so that you can hear My voice. I speak in the language of Love; My words fill you with Life and Peace, Joy and Hope. I desire to talk with all of My children, but many are too busy to listen. The "work ethic" has them tied up in knots. They submit wholeheartedly to this taskmaster, wondering why they feel so distant from Me.
Living close to Me requires making Me your First Love -- your highest priority. As you seek My Presence above all else, you experience Peace and Joy in full measure. I also am blessed when you make Me first in your life. While you journey through life in My Presence, My Glory brightens the world around you
Isaiah 50:4
English Standard Version
The Lord God has given me
the tongue of those who are taught,
that I may know how to sustain with a word
    him who is weary.
Morning by morning he awakens;
    he awakens my ear
to hear as those who are taught.

Revelation 2:4
English Standard Version
But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first.

Isaiah 60:2
English Standard Version
For behold, darkness shall cover the earth,
    and thick darkness the peoples;
but the Lord will arise upon you,
and his glory will be seen upon you.

My Prayer
Lord, I love morning - it is new and fresh. I want to be still with you and block out the day's events. I lift up my brothers and sisters in the Body of Christ no matter where they are at and pray that they would live close to You and make You their first love - their highest priority - each day. Thank you for the promise of Peace and Joy. We live in times that appear dark, but yes Lord, You will arise and Your glory will be seen.

    3. Invite Jesus into your day, mind, prayer, breakfast, etc etc, He wants to be invited and He wants to know more about you. Our God is not just so far off distant rule regulator throwing lightning bolts at rule breakers- He is the indwelling Holy Spirit that can always be trusted and depended on. Conversations are two sided- one talks, one stops and listens.

  4. On this Third Sunday in Advent, the message of John the Baptist is the focus. In Luke 3:10-18, John’s preaching lights a fire in people’s expectation of someone to come and make things right. Is that not a inner hope of every human being, hope that someone will come along and fix things? Then there are those who don’t think they have anything that needs to be fixed. Those individuals will resist any such individual who might change things for, inevitably, fixing requires changing things from the way they are. That is seen in the response of the religious leaders of Jesus’ day. This whole scenario leads me to ask myself, how great is the expectation within my soul for Jesus return to once and for all make things right for everyone. This will be a day of great joy; it will also be a day of great change, for some more than others. In the Luke passage, people are asking John how do they need to change now in preparation for this coming of the Messiah. His answer reflects the words that Jesus will speak, “Love one another.” Now that is a significant change and a change that will bring great joy to all.

  5. Keys to hearing Gods voice for me. Immerse my self daily in the Bible. Spend time every day. Follow a reading plan so I read through in a year. Reflect on Brother Lawrence book. Begin my day and end my day telling God what I am grateful for. I have decided to be the disciple of Christ that I have always wanted to be.

  7. Update on Lisa biopsy - Before church Lisa told me the biopsy came back cancer, it brought tears to my eyes. She said "don't cry, I'm not crying, it's in God's hands." I told her my husbands favorite expression is "God is in control and you just can't beat it." Lisa said she would let me know when the surgery is and I can come to her room after surgery and we will laugh and have fun. She won't have to take chemo, will have radiation. Thank you for continued prayers.

  8. Sassy Mom - praying with you for Lisa and asking you to pray for my Jinny (SIL). She had the same reaction to her last appt. as Lisa did, "I'm not afraid!" And, that was the same reaction my friend Jan had to her diagnosis (while I was crying).
God, give me the strength to be their cheerleader - to rejoice with them in that they know the next steps, even when I can comprehend them. Let me be strong and not weep. They have the Victory - either way - don't let my reaction to what the Drs say hinder either of them.
GOD IS GOD ENOUGH!! I'm praying for the strength to remind them of THE HOPE. Regardless. If we all live or die in the next day - WE HAVE THE HOPE of His Return!
Let me put my words in ACTION!

  21. JC: "I desire to talk with all of My children, but many are too busy to listen. The "work ethic" has them tied up in knots... wondering why they feel so distant from Me."

Only now, six decades into this life, do I fully understand the import of this JC quote and its timeless truth. As a Type A, driven business leader, my desire to demonstrate an outstanding work ethic has hindered my ability to hear the Lord. I felt compelled to work longer hours thereby bringing work into much of my personal time. Add a spouse, 3 kids, active church involvement, and in hindsight, I see why I had little time for prayer or quiet time. I found it to be too challenging to clear and focus the mind, nevermind, it was too time consuming!

NOW, with work, a background activity to health challanges, it's easy to see the obvious lack of communication with God. For the previous few decades, ONLY in crisis, did I slow to "require" that God talk to me. No wonder, His message was often confusing or unclear!

JC: "As you seek My Presence above all else, you experience Peace and Joy in full measure." SO, LORD, THANK YOU for my valley of the here and now. While You nor I desire for me to have a disease, it is this very disease that has caused me to uncharacteristically and unequivocally place You first in my life. And in doing so, opened the door to Your love in ways that I've not experienced prior to now. In all things, You are good and demonstrate Your love.

The blessing of the valleys in life, is that if we listen, TRULY LISTEN, we will hear Your love song written in the heavens and yet PERSONALIZED to meet our individual needs. Thank you Father, Son, and Spirit, for Your patience with this slow learner... and for Your unwavering love for each of Your children in Christ. May we humbly pray for You to show patience and direct us to find solitude to LISTEN with a mind free from thoughts of our "busy-ness". Thank you, and Amen.

    3. MadFox, my daily prayers continue for you. Your entries, before your diagnosis and now, always cause me to pause and ponder and I'm so grateful for them and you. Having dealt with several health issues from 2011-2014+, I can honestly say I am grateful for those issues. These issues humbled me and put me on my knees in front of the Lord. I was forced to be still and give my full attention to God. Until that time, I felt unworthy, distant, and only seemed to call on the Lord in what I thought were difficult times...to busy otherwise. Anyway, I am grateful for the health issues. Fast forward, when I have a busy work day, if I keep God first in that busyness, how much better the day is whether there are a few "fires" to put out or other challenges, having Him to talk things thru keeps me grounded because I know He is all knowing of the situation and in control. It simply takes us to talk to and rely on Him versus putting Him on a shelf like a spice and only bringing Him off the shelf when we think we "need" him. We need him always and being still with him in the morning and being in touch with Him throughout the day is hugely comforting. Am I perfect each day with this communication? Sadly, no, but I am far better than I was and so appreciative & grateful when I do. Healing and blessings, Madfox, and all of our JC family!

    5. Praying always for you dear MadFox. I was a type A person to a fault and I had to remind myself that my health was more important than getting everything perfect and accomplished in time. I am learning to put the brakes on and be still and know that He is God. I do have a problem with baking hundreds of cookies for Christmas because we have a huge family and I want to send cookies to everyone I love. God is with me as I bake and I spend many hours talking to Him in my kitchen. But I know he wants me to rest too. I agree with you that sometimes we put him on a shelf until we "need" him. But I know He is ever present and He is the strength I need right now. He never disappoints and renews and restores me because He loves me. None of us are perfect perfect with this communication because we get distracted by responsibilities. Let us try our best to reel it in and stay plugged into our first Love, our living Vine. God bless you dear MadFox and all our JC family.

  28. Loving Father, Your great desire is to be truly loved by Your people. I know that I have been given the gift of free will to choose who and what I will give my affections to, and I chose You! However, sometimes my sinful nature forgets that and unconsciously, I place my hope and affections in the world instead of in You. I repent to You all the places and times where I idolized someone or something and ask that You heal those places of my heart, speak Your love straight to this heart of mine, allowing me to receive Your forgiveness in the name of Jesus. Thank You Father for forgiving me.
May I never forget that I was created out of Your longing for a close relationship with me. So great is Your desire for a relationship with Your children that You suffer as You watch us choose to love people, ideas, and possessions that will never fully love us in return. Your love for us is so great that You respond to our sin of idolatry with grace and mercy each and every single time! Again, may I never forget that unless You remain my first love, the One I gave all of my heart to, life will always feel out of balance, and lacking the fullness of fulfillment I desire. Please guide me to a deeper love for You each and every day as I open my heart and hands to meet with You. Thank You for filling my days with peace as the result of Your forgiveness, nearness, and loving-kindness. This is my prayer to You Father, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

this evil will no longer reign over us! We command our freedom this day! We command this evil-- FALL DOWN! You will no longer rule over us. The shackles you put on, we are breaking free from them, in Jesus' name! We decree and declare this evil thing that has been put on the earth, you are taken from your high place and will NO LONGER prosper against us! Papa God, we receive our FREEDOM!!! 33. Third Thursday in Advent

4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. 5 Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. 6 Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. 9 Keep on doing the things that you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you. (Philippians 4:4-9 (NRSV))

My wife and I watched a recording of Pentatonix in concert last night. It was their singing interspersed with testimonies of their faith which increased the joy of it all.  They opened with I Saw Three Ships, a frolicking carol that makes no sense but has stood the test of time since the 1600s.  I have often wondered if there is some deeper meaning hidden in the imagery so I decided to meditate upon it this morning with you.

As stated above, the song is irrational in a literal sense for Bethlehem is land locked thus there is no such thing as ships sailing into the city.  Being that this carol came out of England in a time when people were caught up in the lore of the sea, the arrival of ships in port was a time of rejoicing and celebration.  First of all, because the ship and everyone onboard made it safely there, and secondly, the ships were carrying cargo which would bring necessities to people’s living circumstances. With that being said, the significance of the carol begins to become clearer.

The carol was another one of those songs that sprang up from the commoners of the day, much like God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen which was discussed Tuesday. Often times, songs with such an upbeat nature spring up from the common life and more importantly, the common faith of common folk (think of the great spirituals that came out of the time of slavery).  So with the simple but powerful faith in everyday people who for the most part couldn’t read and only heard the bible read in Latin, the celebration of the birth of Jesus is told in what was most familiar to them, and in this case, the celebration of ships arriving in port.

What was originally intended in the use of three has various opinions but what is most popular is that the three represent Mary, Joseph, and Jesus arriving at Bethlehem with the reference in verse 3 of Mary and Christ (Joseph must be assumed). The carol then breaks into high spirit with bells ringing (vs 6), angels singing (vs 7), and most importantly, all souls shall sing (vs. 8) with implications of salvation coming to all.  The hymn concludes with verse 9, then let us all rejoice again, on Christmas Day.

The word, again, catches my attention. The common lifestyle with the grind that it usually is can easily cause the soul to sink into discouragement and despair. So this carol is a source of encouragement, one to another, reminding each other that God-is-with us and the LORD has brought us salvation in the present and forever hereafter. The greatest demonstration of that is in Jesus who began His work of salvation by coming to be with us on Christmas Day in the morning.  (Continued next post)

    1. Can you relate to that?  Are we all not common folk living a common lifestyle?  And it is not always easy and sometimes circumstances make it downright difficult.  Let us be there for each other and remind/encourage each other that our ‘ship has come in’ with all it holds for our salvation.  The LORD Almighty, Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit (another possibility for the three ships), have arrived and are with us.  Then let us all rejoice again, and as Paul admonished us for emphasis,  again, I say rejoice.

  34. See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ. (Colossians 2:8). What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you? You desire and you do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions. You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you suppose it is to no purpose that the Scripture says, "He yearns jealousy over the spirit that He has made to dwell in us"?... (James 4:1-17). And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, He departed and went out to a desolate place, and there He prayed. (Mark 1:35).

You are so powerful and Almighty, and I am but mere dust, with Your breath breathed into me to make me live. Without You in my life, I am nothing. Life means nothing without You Lord. Thank You for saving me from the depths of my despair and for opening my eyes to You; the truth, the life, and the way. You truly are my saving grace and my eternal salvation. I praise You Lord always. Thank You Jesus. I don't deserve anything, but You give me everything. I may not understand or know what You are doing in my life, the lives of others, or the world, but I will trust in You and Your Almighty power and sovereignty that all is for good and for Your glory. Your will be done -- not ours. Remind us that we are Your creations and we belong to You not to ourselves. Break the selfishness that is within us off and replace it with Your goodness, kindness, humility, love, peace, gentleness, and compassion. Enlighten our hearts and minds and let us look to You in all things and give You the glory that You deserve. Let us praise and worship You with all our hearts, minds, and strength. Let us be kind to one another in Your precious name. Thank You for everything Lord. I can't do anything apart from You. You are my strength and refuge and I will run to Your loving arms and accept and receive Your love and all that You have for me. In Jesus name, I pray, Amen.

  36. I have not departed from the commandment of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my portion of food. (Job 23:12). We destroy arguments and every loft opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, (2 Corinthians 10:5). If I had cherished iniquity in my heart, the Lord would not have listened. (Psalm 66:18). Moreover, as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the LORD by ceasing to pray for you, and I will instruct you in the good and the right way. (1 Samuel 12:23). But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear. (Isaiah 59:2). For I have no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the LORD God; so turn, and live." (Ezekiel 18:32). If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! (Matthew 7:11). And then as a widow until she was eighty-four. She did not depart from the temple, worshiping and fasting and prayer night and day. (Luke 2:37).

  37. Thank you JJ for your powerful prayer and for all of the JC family for their prayers. Right now this morning, my son in law is going into a cardiac mitral valve repair at Mayo. He is young and healthy and I know this will go well, but I do ask for prayers. His heart will be stopped and he will be on a heart/lung bypass machine as they do the repairs, but we are so thankful that it is not expected to be open heart. I also just heard that another son in law has tested positive for Covid, so they cannot join us as planned for Christmas. I pray that they will be cleared to come later so we can have something of a Christmas celebration all together. We are babysitting our 3 grandchildren for 5 days as my daughter is at Mayo with her husband. A very unusual Christmas, with unusual unstable weather as well. I am grateful to God for great medical intervention for our family and for giving us bodies that heal. He is the great Healer!

This too shall pass, dear Jeanne, and speaking of mirrors,
In the same way, we can see and understand only a little about God now, as if we were peering at his reflection in a poor mirror; but someday we are going to see him in his completeness, face-to-face. Now all that I know is hazy and blurred, but then I will see everything clearly, just as clearly as God sees into my heart right now.
But we Christians have no veil over our faces; we can be mirrors that brightly reflect the glory of the Lord. And as the Spirit of the Lord works within us, we become more and more like Him.

  57. Sharing a Christmas message sent from my daughter Denise to her patients.
As I look back over 2022, my staff and I have had the privilege of hearing and seeing God's healing work being accomplished in the lives of so many individuals! We are so grateful for the opportunity to come alongside so many of you in your health journey!
For many, including myself, this has been a year of grief, mourning, and loss of family, friends, and relationships. The tragic and unexpected loss of my sister Debbi at the end of June has weighed very heavily on me the past 3 months. It has been a particularly difficult few months as I am still trying to process this loss. I don’t have the answer, but I know The One who does! He is the Savior of the world, and his name is Jesus!
My prayer for each of you is that

THIS YEAR WOULD BE YOUR YEAR OF JUBILEE!
I pray His strength would rise up in the midst of your weakness, that He would be strong on your behalf, and His Spirit would shine out of every broken place in your life. I pray He will trade the ashes of your life for the beauty of His presence; your mourning and grief for the oil of joy and gladness, and He would give you a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. I pray He would rebuild, restore, and renew what seems to have been so long devastated in your life.
10 And the angel said unto them, "Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. Luke 2:10-11

On behalf of myself and my staff, Merry Christmas and much love to each of you this coming New Year!

When I told my Eye Dr. that, he said, "It is supposed to be high definition sight, not high dysfunction!" LOL!!! And he patted me on the shoulder. Of course, this man is at least 30 yrs my junior! I loved Brie's 'looking through the glass dimly,' because it is the truth. We know God's mighty power. Praying for you, dear one. It's gonna be OK. Remind me of this on my next hurdle, will you? Love you with all of my heart.

  60. Oh my dear ones! Not only do you bless me with your prayers for healing, God’s truth, and encouraging words, You make me smile. I know Who I belong to and He’s not going anywhere!!
Norah, Sounds like your cataract surgery was a success! Hallelujah for clearer vision! Thank You Jesus. πŸ™πŸ’—
    Isaiah 40:28-31
    Have you not known?
    Have you not heard?
    The everlasting God, the Lord,
The Creator of the ends of the earth,
    Neither faints nor is weary.
    His understanding is unsearchable.
He gives power to the weak,
And to those who have no might He increases strength.
Even the youths shall faint and be weary,
And the young men shall utterly fall,
But those who wait on the Lord
    Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.

  61. As Maplewood stated in an earlier crossover POST...December is a great, special and wonderful month. A month in remembrance of our Savior’s birth, a month when hope and redemption came into the world, a month of jubilation, celebration, a month that will forever be cherished!
Our devotion reminds us to allow God's Words to fill us with Life and PEACE, Joy and Hope. Living close to God requires making Him our First Love -- our highest PRIORITY. As we seek His PRESENCE above all else, only then do we experience His PEACE and His Joy in full measure.
Isaiah 60 reminds 'we the PEOPLE' that the Lord will arise upon us, and His Glory will be seen upon us!

To celebrate the 16th day of this celebratory month, I PLAN to give JESUS "P" gifts of PRIORITY in my life and PRAISE because He is sooo PRAISWORTHY! Everyone who crosses my PATH today will get a prayer of PEACE and a PARDON for any harm they may have caused me. In so doing, I will try to exercise PATIENCE. Come Holy Spirit; hasten to my aid.

  62. This day I gift my Lord the "P" word PSALMS. The PSALMS have always spoke to me LOUDLY! They contain some of the most beautiful expressions of God's love, forgiveness and mercy. They give me comfort hope and encouragement, but they also show me how to cry out to my Lord when anger, fear and doubt come at me. PSALM 23 is one of the best. It reminds me that in life or in death--- in times of plenty or want---God is good and worthy of my trust. Then one looks to PSALM 91, one of the most powerful PSALMS of protection. It calls me to rest under God's protective
shadow, allowing His faithfulness to be my Shield and Fortress. And in Psalm 23 it says: "You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies..." He tells me He is serving me the VICTORY meal. He ALWAYS causes me to TRIUMPH. I am the Head and not the Tail. I am Above and not Beneath. He has made me MORE THAN A CONQUEROR. And it also says to me: "The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want." I DO NOT LACK FOR ANYTHING! WOW!!! What an AWESOME GOD I serve! Did I ever mention how I so love the PSALMS?
GOD ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS WINS!!! HALLELUJAH!!!
