Jesus Calling: December 4

My thoughts are not your thoughts; neither are your ways My ways. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways and thoughts higher than yours. Remember who I AM when you spent time with Me. Marvel at the wonder of being able to commune with the King of the universe -- any time, any place. Never take this amazing privilege for granted!
Though I am vastly higher and greater than you, I am training you to think My thoughts. As you spend time in My Presence, My thoughts gradually form in your mind. My Spirit is the Director of this process. Sometimes He brings Bible verses to mind. Sometimes He enables you to hear Me "speak" directly to you. These communications strengthen you and prepare you for whatever is before you on your life-path. Take time to listen to My voice. Through your sacrifice of precious time, I bless you for more than you dare to ask.
Isaiah 55:8-9
English Standard Version
For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Colossians 4:2
English Standard Version
Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.

Psalm 116:17
English Standard Version
I will offer to you the sacrifice of thanksgiving
and call on the name of the Lord.

My Prayer
Lord, you are higher than the highest, thus higher than my ways and higher than my thoughts. I thank you for your continual hand of providence. I remain your vessel, wanting to listen to You and Your spirit as you speak to me, through your word, through people, through prayer. Help me Jesus. Help me to be ever mindful of you.

  4. There is something mighty and powerful going on here. It is beyond an explanation thus we identify it as a mystery. It will remain a mystery until that time when you and I “will know as we are known.” (I Corinthians 13:12). But, in the meantime, it is a good mystery with a joyful resolution. And here is the part that is a source of great delight now. By the fact that you are here is a sign you have been hand picked by Jesus to enter into this mystery. You and I have been given an inkling of what is going on here. People throughout the ages have used many worldly tools to figure out life with little to no success. But you and I have been invited into the mystery of what God is doing. As our reading for today suggests, in spending this time in His divine Presence, the inkling we have gets a little greater. This makes me want to be here. Thanks be to God I have been chosen to be here. Thanks be to God you have been chosen to be here. Thanks be to God that we are here together.

    3. I am so thankful to be here gathered with all of you that have been hand-picked by Jesus. I've owned the book for 6 years and have given it as a gift to others. I initially liked how Payton Family provided the verses here so I wouldn't get distracted looking them up. Now its the family communion we have here that God worked everything for the good of us that come here that I so look forward to logging in to every morning to see how you all are doing. Its so fun and rewarding to be invited into the mystery of what God is doing here. Thank you Payton Family and God Bless all of you. I am honored to be on this journey with you.

    4. KMertens I was gifted Jesus calling about 6 years ago as well from my sister. I found this site on a whim some months ago and love the personal experience. It makes me happy to read the prayer and go through the comments and especially see the updated comments like yours. I wasn’t big on praying and bible study before but now and here I look forward to it. Have a blessed day!

    6. Bob, you shared my exact sentiments. We are here as one family by the Special Invitation of God's Holy Spirit.
I received my "invitation" through a friend who would email the day's reading out to a list of her friends and relatives. One day I was going to be driving out of town, leaving very early in the morning. She told me to google Jesus Calling because someone actual reads the readings out loud and I could listen to it in my vehicle. "RECALCULATING! RECALCULATING" said the GPS (GOD'S POSITIONING SPIRIT) and the Holy Spirit guided me here instead.
I would read the day's reading and the Scriptures before I started work each day, but no time to read the postings...until covid-19 shut down my employment...And now with nothing but time, I included the postings in with my reading. YES, The God Positioning System landed me safely in the Arms of this wonderful, God sharing, Spirit filled family, like none other I have ever known. I pray with and for you and yours each day and night...and along with Jesus, YOU ARE ALWAYS ON MY MIND, YOU ARE ALWAYS ON MY MIND! Love all of you dearly for bringing my steps closer, and more in alignment with His. I eagerly get out of bed singing or reciting thanks to God, make coffee, and come in this room to "see" you and be with you, worship and pray with and for you. In one of Chris Payton's commentary on Psalm 84 (located between Dec 3 and Dec 4), he spoke of God's Loving Dwelling Places:
      SANCTUARY for God's creatures who desire to be with God and each other;
      SPECIAL BLESSING PLACE where it is a joy to be with people praying and praising God;
BACA PLACE where barren feels full when our journey takes us across dry parched land, and there is God's refreshment here.
ONE HEART of hearts focused on worshipping Jesus Christ, Who is acknowledged as Being better
than any of the pleasures this world has to offer.
I think Chris was referring to Church Houses of Worship. None that I had ever been in were brought to mind except for you, my JC Family in The Prayer Warriors Room.
That is who you are to me, and you make it feel like Christmas all year long!
      Love, Brie

    9. Thank you Bob! You spoke well and right and I loved your post so much that I read it to my twin sister Janet and she loved it. I am delighted to have been chosen by God to become a part of this wonderful JC family here. I sure don’t take it for granted and I cherish all of you so very much. We are all in agreement here and we love the Lord and try each day to walk a closer walk with Him.
Dear Brie, it was part of God’s plan that you would be given the time to read the posts here and become the sweet and beloved member of our family. Your posts are full of insight encouragement and and joy. I loved your: ONE HEART of hearts focused on worshipping Jesus Christ.
As Jan so beautifully put it: I join you sisters in the gladness of your hearts that by sheer providence we are brought together here in this place as brothers & sisters sharing the goodness of God. Thank you Jan and Amen! God bless you all!

  8. Before I opened the blog this AM, my wife and I were discussing how blessed we are to have been placed on Earth, this little speck of dust in His universe, to be in His image. Humbling, isn't it? Then I open today's blog and it fits so well. It's so good to feel His working in our lives.

  9. Good Morning, JC Family. I am asking for prayer. I feel selfish and embarrassed to even ask but then I remembered Sassy Mom telling someone to not apologize for asking for prayer.
I need a spark of His divine thankfulness in my life. I have nothing to be sad about, yet I feel flat. Instead of giving thanks for all of my blessings, I am asking for more. I miss the simplicity and joy of the years when Christmas brought joy and excitement. It all feels so blah now. Our children have children or their own routines and it's as if I don't know what to do to spark that joy again. I tell myself what I've learned in the past, "When the pressure is on - give." But, it's as if I don't have any ideas of what to do differently.
I've had several sisters in Christ admonish me for not being thankful - for not remembering His many blessings in my life and I know they are right. So, I do count them and try to remind myself, but I feel as if I've failed somehow and I don't know why.
Last night as I was going to sleep, I prayed that this would lift and that I would wake up determined to not feel this way, but in all honesty, I still do.
I will do my best today, to make this devotion my personal endeavor. Father, help me make your ways mine and your thoughts mine. Help me get excited about the plans we DO have to not always want more, better, different than what I have. Do not let me go down the path of unthankfulness. In the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

    7. I must remind myself, often, that my joy is not of my own doing. It is more about accepting the joy God gives through his Holy Spirit. The more I try to arrange my life for comfort and joy, the more it's interrupted by events beyond my control. Lord, help me to continue to receive my joy from your presence in my life.

    8. Norah. One of the things that helps to lift me is picking an Angel from the Salvation Army's Angel Tree. It gives a little bit about "your child's" needs for Christmas. It brings joy to shop for, wrap, and deliver to the needy rather than the greedy. A tradition with your grand littles perhaps?
Praying for God's Holy Spirit to jump start His spark in you. Please let us know how you are doing. We love you.

I come against and bind any force that tries to prevent me from spending time with You. I need You, I need Your help, Your direction, I need Your Spirit to take over my being, I need You Jesus, let Your will be done in my life and in all my decisions, NOT my will, but Yours be done! THANK YOU Lord!

Thank You for this month of abundant Harvest, I receive it in the name of Jesus.
Great 'I AM', Thank You for going ahead of me and making all my crooked paths straight. All Praise and glory to Your Holiness.

Good morning JC family, may the joy and blessings of this day be your portion as you TRUST the ONE whose thoughts and ways are higher and greater than yours. Stay Blessed.

  13. Hi Nora, part of our Faith journey are the hills and valleys. When I have my dry, flat times, I force myself to meditate, sit quiet for 5 minutes & ask God to speak to my heart/fill me with peace, joy & gratitude. Also the word of God can definitely renew our mind & transform us (Romans 12:2)
Pick a couple of scriptures that touch your mind & heart and meditate in them throughout the day (some of my favorites are Philippians 4, Ephesians 3:20, & 1 Thessalonians 5:16
This life gives us temporary “happiness happenings” but only God can fill our empty voids with true, deep, everlasting joy & peace
I’ll be praying that the Holy Spirit fills you. Don’t give up no matter what you think, see or feel - we as women of Faith, “believe what we cannot see & expect what we hope for”
    Hebrews 11:1

3 thoughts: 1. you married far better than your bride who adores you! 🤣 2. I bet you're a snappy dresser! 😎 3. God is using you both in a mighty way to the 'gentiles' in a way that others could not!

In this covid era, I've adopted both in person and in icon social media the use of 🖖. It is from the tv and movie SciFi Star Trek character, Spock, who used this hand gesture because his planet's humanoids avoided physical contact and were somewhat germaphobes. It was and is the quasi-equivalent to Hawaiians' use of the word "Aloha" for either "Hello or Goodbye." In today's covronavirus crazy climate, and with immunocompromised cancer or other similar diseases' patients, it's a great twist as it means: "Live long and prosper!"

So a long way to get to... I PRAY: Lord With his heart and soul radiating Your AGAPE LOVE. may you grant 10-4 and his wife many more years to LIVE LONG AND PROSPER in health, and have the retiremnt nest egg to continue to LET YOUR "CUTE COUPLE" shine YOUR LIGHT for A LONG TIME! 🖖😎

  22. Eternal Father and Lord, Thank You for another blessed day to be in Your Presence. You’ve caused me to hear Your Loving kindness this morning and I thank You. Thank You for the Holy Spirit that is taking over the battlefield of my mind, so that I can think Your thoughts. Though I sin and fall short of Your glory, I thank You that Your thoughts for me are for grace and peace. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Holy, Holy Lord God Almighty, It's a privilege to worship You, Maker of all universe. It's an honor just to stand before You. With a grateful heart, I lift my hands to You, proclaiming Lord, You reign. Great are You Lord, You're greatly to be praised. Father, You reign. (Sinach).

We serve a great God who knows our every thought. His thoughts are Higher and are not like ours because, as humans, we are all finite, limited beings living in a sin-stained universe. God is infinitely intelligent, so His thoughts are infinitely higher than our thoughts. Our thoughts have a beginning, but God’s the Beginning and End (Revelation 1:8). He is our authority even in our thoughts. His thoughts are righteous, pure, and holy, and should be modeled after. We might not see it clearly now, but we can trust Him because His thoughts are not like our thoughts and His ways are certainly not like our ways. They are higher! They are greater, and Infinitely so!

May the Holy Spirit take over our minds and love through us, think through us and live in us.

    Blessings and Peace.

  23. Good morning JC loved ones🌞. I just have to share this " Godwink". Monday I came home from the dentist feeling totally bummed. I have a decision to make about 3 procedures. More money & time that I want to spend. Called my bff, left a message to return my call. No call back after 2 days. Yesterday she calls asking for a name of a dentist I recommended awhile ago. While I'm giving the info & scratching my head at the same time, she wants to know if it was me who left a message that was all garbled & she couldn't make out. I proceeded to tell her of my dilemma. Here years back, she had the same dental decisions to make. Before long she began to set my mind at ease, made me laugh & helped me to decide. God knows exactly what we need & sets into motion, through the barriers, using others to help us find answers & peace. Coincidences? Or a "Godwink"? I prefer the latter🥰

But God holds my hand through everything. I was discouraged because of the cost of my dental work but I am thankful that God is providing as He promised. Rest in the Lord and be blessed you still have your BFF. Much love.,

    8. Great examples of why we thank God in all circumstances. Yesterday we were working on a project in the garage and needed to locate a bright orange strap about 8 feet long. Both of us knew it was SOMEwhere in the piles of STUFF that filled the garage after we combined two householdS last May. We worked together for over an hour to once again move, organize, label and discover many things we had been looking for. Still no strap, so we kept going and rigged up another solution. I was thanking God that we were finally making things more tidy, and that I could now uncover my Christmas decorations. Hubby would laugh when I would blurt out "thank you Jesus" during this activity.
When we were "done" with a temporary solution until we could go buy another big orange strap at the hardware store, I turned my eyes to one last pile in the corner. Guess what I uncovered? Hubby thought for a moment that I knew it was there all along and just wanted to get the garage organized. Nope, it was totally a God thing. Happy wife, happy life! My OCD is getting a good rest, thanks to thanking God!

  24. JC Warriors, it has been an incredible two months from diagnosis to now a few days into Cycle 2 of a 4 cycle trek on what JC calls "journey with low and high paths." And I'm gladly holding His guiding hand! TODAY'S DEVO once again hits me like a fastball... when you just can't get out of the way and are hit! JC as Sarah uses Isaiah 55:8: "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord."

Yesterday. I was in a virtual 'lecto-divino' style bible study, where I voiced to a small group of older faith leaders that the Spirit has been prompting me of concern about how to publicly share my situation. My concern is my prayers and yours (a humble thank you) seem to be (*from an earthly perspective*), being answered.... but many sincere prayers have been offered by others and they appear to be ignored, again from our earthly perspective. How to share good news within a spirit of "do no harm" to the neighbor reading this here, who is not being healed but is perhaps, far greater than me, a tremedous faith warrior who is asking - no begging - for God's mercy and does not feel they are getting it.

Isaiah 55:9: "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts."

As demonstrated by your prayers, affirmations of my thoughts, and your genuine agape support, I've had that same concern here even though this is a pseudonym. Discussed at some time in the past by Nora, myself and many of you, we do this for privacy of others that need to be metioned to illustrate God's use of them in the sharing of our journey... but can't or shouldn't be named professionally or personally.

I NOW have a better understanding of many aspects of terminal diseases, medical team challenges, patient fears or anxieties. And am so much closer in my walk with the Lord due to my cancer. In fact, the Great Comforter has assisted in moving me past melancholy moments and to come to peace that I CAN USE THIS disease for a greater purpose as I'm more of an openbook personality. However, still feel that I have no right to expose my loved ones to a random friend or neighbor reading here (with what I've written now many would figure out who I am) and confronting them unexpectedly due to my openness.  Plus, I have church friends where their loved one is doing poorly with cancer and are in despair.

So a long way to get here, but felt necessary as I'm going to be brief NOW (ha ha 😂)!  My first comprehensive review of all blood and cancer markers were reviewed over the last few days. And I believe that miracles happen every day if we look for them (Mtn.Top song #3), and often it is the knowledge gained in medical school and the marvels of the God CREATED brain finding new ways (genetically) to attack disease that God did not create for evil or to punish us...no, but rather man, with free will, was able to create by adding cancer causing chemicals to foods or exposing humans to radiation, etc. JC Warriors with few 'complainable' side effects and still a long way to go with possible setbacks, and with still abnormal bloodwork in some areas, however with incredinly fast and deep positive responses to my chemo, steroid, and antiviral treatments, my doc said yesterday in writing a summary email, the following: "Great to see you this morning. Without hyperbole, you’ve had the quickest/deepest response of anyone I have ever treated... Unbelievable and can only be explained by the Lord’s hands. Keep up the great work both physically and with your consistent positivity, you are going to beat this!"

JC Warriors your prayers and those of others praying for me are so helpful mentally and whether it is the science and the prayers, we will only know when we get to heaven...but in the meantime I will continue to cherish and ask for your prayers at the mountaintop or in the valley! THANK YOU. AGAPE. AMEN.

  25. MadFox, only God himself know the reasons we have challenges, difficulties, trials, what have your placed into our paths. All I know is that when it's released & shared here, it eventually serves to cause us to pray, be hopeful, be encouraged, & build our faith. God has used your affliction to do just that! After all, we are not our own. We are God's elect. Whatever mission He has ordained for us to fulfill, be it our bodies included, so be it. He formed it, He can use it for Kingdom work as He pleases. Your attitude concerning this disease is inspiring. Glad to be included in your journey dear brother. Godspeed💕

    1. AMEN Jan, you are speaking "truth". Free will does not negate God using our path or altering it for His "good"... as He decided to do with Jesus' mother, Mary, to His purpose of saving us from ourselves with His sacrifice and yes, desth. I DO THINK however that God intervened and still intervenes very, very sparingly as LOVE is only strengthened or created by the individual learning to love as Christ demonstrated and as GOD IS, and which we can then learn to tap via His Spirit within. 🙏😃

Although we know you love all your children and give each one of us what we need for our Homeward Bound journey, yet satan tries to divide us by twisting our thoughts into seeing winners and losers on an earthly plane rather than Your Higher thoughts and Your Ways. 34. It really is wonderful to 'hear' His voice. It is Water to the thirsty, Bread to the hungry. Peace in turmoil, Hope to those who have lost hope. Our Lord Jesus speaks in many ways, few hear Him audibly. Part of my prayer when He and I are alone is' Lord speak to me Heart to heart, help me to hear You today. I am listening for your voice'. He may 'speak' through the actions of another. Through birdsong, sometimes in comforting silence or any of the oh so many ways available to Him. Have a heart open and listening for His voice. I pray He will speak to each and every one who reads today's JC Blog, and that you will hear Him. Be blessed by His words and His Word today.

    3. Peter, It is amazing how hearing him speak directly to us from what ever avenue he chooses can turn our tears of sorrow into tears of joy. By listening instead of filling our time with him constantly talking we can separate ourselves from what are thoughts and emotions tell us about our concerns. Our focus being what our Lord is saying and not to what our flesh is saying turns everything around. We'll still have hard times, but knowing he's with us and giving us personal guidance gives us joy and peace when our world around us brings confusion and sorrow.

  35. For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not. (Job 33:14). Call unto Me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not. (Jeremiah 33:3). So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17). And why call ye Me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say? (Luke 6:46). My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me: (John 10:27-28). Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of Mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: (Matthew 7:24). God, Who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, hath in these last days spoken unto us by His Son, whom He hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also He made the worlds; (Hebrews 1:1-2).

Help me to not take this gift for granted. Remind me how amazing and precious and what a blessing this is. Help me to realize when You are speaking to me in and through others, Your word, places, and things. I know that You are always speaking to all of Your children, but we don't always hear You. Open my heart, mind, and eyes to Your precious words and messages and help me to receive them. Put Your desire/will for me upon my heart and help me hear, receive, accept, and abide in it. Let Your will/desire for me be mine Lord. I praise You Lord always. Thank You Jesus. You are so beautiful and magnificent. I can't thank You enough for all that You are and all that You do. You are a blessing. When I speak, let my words be those of the Holy Spirit, and when I walk, let my feet be directed by the Holy Spirit. Help me be mindful of others, my thoughts, words, ways, and doings. Let Your Spirit rule me and Your perfect peace and joy permeate my entire being. Thank You for all my benefits and blessings. Thank You for all the people You are placing in my path and for those You have removed. I may not know where my path is leading, but I will trust in You Lord, and hold Your hand as we walk together along this journey of life. In Jesus name, I pray, Amen.

  41. First Saturday in Advent

Wake up! Wake up! Clothe yourself with strength, Zion! Put on your beautiful clothes, holy city of Jerusalem.  (Isaiah 52:1 (NOG))

“And what I (Jesus) say to you I say to all: Keep awake.” (Mark 13:37 (NRSV))

“Sleeper, awake! Rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” (Ephesians 5:14 (NRSV)

Not every piece of music of the season will ‘tickle our fancy’, not every song fuels our merriment, but there are some profound compositions that carry the very powerful message to be embraced this season of Advent and if we allow that to happen, we just might experience heavenly joy.

“Sleepers Wake!” A Voice Astounds Us

Here is a well written article about this hymn that provides some excellent background to its composition and to what JS Bach (certainly no slouch when it comes to composing music) did with it 150 years later.

"Sleepers Awake," from Crisis to Cantata | CRB

Something else necessary to fully appreciate the depth of this hymn is the imagery it uses of the Second Coming of Christ.  Where the Old Testament speaks of “the Day of the Lord comes, cruel, with wrath and fierce anger, to make the earth a desolation, and to destroy its sinners from it. (Isaiah 13:9)”, certainly very ominous in tone, yet Jesus talks of His returning with a totally different image.  In Revelation 21:2, His second coming is described with these words, ‘And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.’  It is the language of a wedding taking place to which Jesus is the Bridegroom and the Universal Church, the communion of saints, is the Bride.  As stated in the article above, Rev. Niolai wrote this hymn for the congregation he served to give them joy and hope in the middle of an dreadful epidemic sweeping through the area.  (Hmmm, maybe it is appropriate for our time.)

There is a wedding about to take place though the exact time is unknown.  We are about to walk down the aisle.  At the end of the aisle is the One who will take us as His own forever and ever.  See the smile across His face, feel the love He has for us exuding from His presence.  Let the music begin; let us process toward Him.

This is a piece in which you need to give full attention to the words whether the music is your preferred genre or not.  I provide you with a link to a presentation that enables you to do this.

    4. Rich - one of my favorite verses. It’s helped me many nights be able to put away my worries and sleep peacefully in the arms of God.

  53. As Maplewood stated in an earlier crossover post...DECEMBER is a great, special and wonderful month. A month in remembrance of our Savior’s birth, a month when hope and redemption came into the world, a month of jubilation, celebration, a month that will forever be cherished!
To celebrate the 4th day of this celebratory month, I plan to give Jesus "D" gifts of:
    DEDICATING this
DAY to the God I love,
    DWELLING in total
DEVOTION to Him, and allowing His Holy Spirit to
DIRECT the process of DECLARING His Goodness to everyone I encounter today, because whatever I DO for the least, I DO for Him! In Jesus' Name. AMEN!

    1. Wonderful "D" gifts to the Lord, dear Brie. I will add DEAREST, DIVINE, and DESERVING. I sure will Declare His Goodness to everyone for the rest of my life. He has DONE great things for us. I am filled with Praise, and Gratitude.
I loved this from today's devotion: "As you spend time in My Presence, My thoughts gradually form in your mind. My Spirit is the Director of this process." May His indwelling Spirit direct this day to be productive and sweet so we can bless others and glorify Him. Let us stay close to Him and take time to stop and be still and know that He is God.

      John 16:13
However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.

      Romans 15:13
Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

      John 14:26
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

    2. I am reminded of the scripture He is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. Describing God with words helps us see a glimpse of the diamond the A to Z of the triune Godhead. The more we look and listen the better we and our mission field around us will become.

    3. Amen! Every day is a chance to get closer to Him and understand Him better. Being still in His presence makes us open to His voice. Our thoughts become His thoughts. What a marvelous gift. His Spirit inspires and instructs us to be more like Him.
God bless your day, dear Janet and stevmo, and all our JC Family. He is the strength in our weakness. I've got too much to do today but I'm not alone. Let's enjoy every blessing He sets before us. Gratitude and Praise to the Most High!

  54. Adding to Brie's 'D' gifts, I offer the gift of Discipleship. A disciple is someone who believes in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, intentionally learns from Him, and strives to live more like Him. Discipleship is a widely-used word to describe a journey of spiritual growth.

  56. Loving ALL the 'D' word gifts! I gift my Lord the words Dazzling and Delights. The Son is the DAZZLING RADIANCE of God's SPLENDOR. And: "God DELIGHTS in those who reverence Him and trust Him and put their hope in His unfailing love." Psalm 147:11.
