Jesus Calling: December 19

Do not be weighed down by the clutter in your life: lots of little chores to do sometime, in no particular order. If you focus too much on these petty tasks, trying to get them all out of the way, you will discover that they are endless. They can eat up so much time as you devote to them.
Instead of trying to do all your chores at once, choose the ones that need to be done today. Let the rest slip into the background of your mind, so I can be in the forefront of your awareness. Remember that your ultimate goal is living close to Me, being responsive to My initiatives. I can communicate with you most readily when your mind is uncluttered and turned toward Me. Seek My Face continually throughout this day. Let My Presence bring order to your thoughts, infusing Peace into your entire being.
Proverbs 16:3
English Standard Version
Commit your work to the Lord,
and your plans will be established.

Matthew 6:33
English Standard Version
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

My Prayer
Lord, guide me and direct me to seek first the kingdom of God and your righteousness. Commit my work to the Lord.

  3. In these final days before Christmas, Luke’s account is read section by section. Today Luke 1:5-25 is the focus. Zechariah & Elizabeth are brought to the forefront of the stage. They were a beautiful couple. They epitomized the reading above. They lived close to our Lord. They sought His face. But they had been denied life’s greatest blessing, to have a child. Oh, they had prayed for God to bless them in this way. For years and years they had prayed. Who knows how many times Elizabeth thought she was pregnant and was not or even experienced a miscarriage. As their years advanced the prays had lessened but the shame had not (in those days, couples who were not blessed with a child were considered cursed by God and the whispers went on). Yet, they lived close to God, they sought His face. Everything was fitting God’s perfect plan even though there was much heartache on earth. Zechariah & Elizabeth lived close to God, they sought His face. Then, at a moment of God’s choosing, everything changed miraculously and the child they had prayed was given. He would be no ordinary child but the fulfillment of other prayers they had offered, for God’s sending of Elijah, the forerunner of the Messiah. I admire their faith that remained constant for who knows how many years in spite of numerous disappointments and malicious gossip they knew was taking place. I am humbled.

    2. Amen Bob!! God’s faithfulness was shown to them even in the winter of their lives! Their sincere trust in Him and their undying devotion was greatly rewarded. God leads us to the desires of our hearts as we patiently wait on Him in trust and faith. He answers our prayers in His own perfect timing. If we put Him in the center, all things come together.
Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all other things will be added unto you. Alleluia!

    3. For God's sending of John.
John's (The Baptizer) parents: Zechariah means ‘God remembers’.
Elizabeth means ‘God is my oath’
Zechariah + Elizabeth = God remembers His oath.

  4. I love reading Bob's Advent posts - sure miss him. Plans to do as JC encourages - only what must be done today, which is plenty! Throughout the week I have given up several things on my list. Baking: a church friend is selling goodies, so I bought some from her, which gave me time to do other things that must be done.
Today, I will strive for one thing at a time, keeping my focus on You, Lord. I refuse the temptation to get flustered and race through this day. We are seeing friends tonight as this is the only time they are free. Trusting, You, Lord that the I will get done only what NEEDS to be done before tomorrow so that we can enjoy our company.
Trusting that all casework will be completed, as needed and that I can shop at lunch and remember to smile at the cashiers and not get impatient.
Praying for each of you, thankful for your prayers from yesterday. Trust you are in mine as I know I'm in yours. Love and blessings for this miraculous time of year = seeking His face first will allow us all to enjoy each 'task' and blessing!

    1. Such good advice from Bob and from you, dear Norah. This is the time for finding a balance of work and time to be still in Him. He reminds us not to get distracted by our Christmas busyness and leave our first love We must include Him in everything we do. Jesus is the reason for the season! And maybe after all is said and done in Him there may even be time for a sweet Hallmark movie.

    2. Every year I am amazed at all that gets done and the perfection of a Christmas celebration occurs no matter what. Even more so as I get older and closer in relationship and trust with God do I appreciate how I am guided to do only what must be done by thanking Him for all things and for holding my hand. I'm on vacation! PTL as I yield to the Peace that single minded focus on God and His Word brings. Blessings everyone! ❤️

  6. What a needed devotional for today. This is Susan and I sure would appreciate continued prayer. My Husband seems stable, daughter's wedding a week from tomorrow and today I see my surgeon and should get a surgery date for bilateral mastectomy to remove a cancerous tumor in my left breast. When to Moffitt cancer center Tuesday in Tampa and they proposed a clinical trial that would involve chemo and a delay of my surgery (based on my circumstances) but I feel led to get this tumor out ASAP. PLEASE pray for successful surgery and no need for radiation or chemo after surgery. Blessings to all! Our God is good all the time! He has me and my family and will see us through and He has you and your family too! If you want to pray for me to find the perfect Mother of the Bride dress today at a fabulous price, by all means please do! Our daughter moved her wedding up so that she might have her Father in attendance - not sure how long before the Lord will call him home.

Cement joy in their hearts and lives during this time of celebrating you joining together in marriage Susan's daughter and future husband. Take Susan to the right store to provide her the perfect dress that fits her budget. I cry out to you to quicken the surgery for Susan and if there be any reconstructive surgeries that those be done swiftly and successfully. Bring strength to her husband so that he can celebrate with everyone this marriage. Make this a special time in their lives filled with good memories. Thank you for sealing us forever in your care and bring glory to Your name through these lives surrendered to You. Glory to God in the highest! Surely your goodness and love will follow them all the days of their lives as they dwell in the house of the Lord forever!

  8. What a fellowship, what a joy divine it is to lean on Your everlasting arms this blessed day You have made and ushered me into. Thank You Lord for Your faithfulness.

Reading today's devotion reminds me of not only the physical clutters of our lives that can waste time and create unnecessary strain, but one that is far worse:
Spiritual clutter! Worries, fears, sins, bitterness etc. are just few of the spiritual clutters that when we are not careful can rub us of God's best for us! It's okay to clean out the physical and prepare for a new year ( as most people have as resolution), but tackling the spiritual clutter is far more important!
The Holy Spirit can give us the courage to turn our mess over to God (2 Corinthians 7:1), while the Blood of Jesus does the purifying work. However, God is not our maid, we are to take responsibility and do our own spiritual spring, summer and winter cleaning on a regular basis.
We can start by reading Psalm 51 as our own personal prayer for spiritual clutter cleansing!

Praying for all and particularly, covering Susan and her family at this testing time. Your JC prayer warriors are standing with you Susan and believing for God's best outcome!

Stay blessed all, and seek His face only!

Good morning Jesus, Thank You for the blessings and gift of another day! Before reading this morning's devotion, I had so much chores planned in my mind to tackle today and behold, I got a word from You to choose what I can do at a time and allow the rest to wait!
Wow, wow, wow! I am always in awe of how You move and how You speak! THANK YOU for reminding me that it's okay to relax and not push myself with the demands of house work on weekends, but set aside time to be in Your Presence. As I tackle what I can, I push the rest at the back of my mind and put You at the forefront of my day. Let this morning continue to bring me word of Your loving kindness and tender mercy and infuse Your peace into my life.
Thank You Father for loving me enough to re-direct my steps, change my plans according to Your Will and lead me in the way I should go. Great indeed is Your faithfulness. Thank You for JESUS and the Grace You've given that is sufficient for Your children. Amen.

  24. Fourth Sunday in Advent

39 In those days Mary set out and went with haste to a Judean town in the hill country, 40 where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. 41 When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the child leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit 42 and exclaimed with a loud cry, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. 43 And why has this happened to me, that the mother of my Lord comes to me? 44 For as soon as I heard the sound of your greeting, the child in my womb leaped for joy. 45 And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her by the Lord.” (Luke 1:39-45 (NRSV))

Today, we make the final turn and enter into the home stretch to the celebration of our LORD’s birth.  The fourth candle is lit on the Advent wreath, the candle that represents LOVE. Now the wreath is fully lit and we are prepared for the lighting of the Christ Candle on the celebration of the incarnation, the LORD becoming one with us.

With the miraculous pregnancy within her, Mary is left to herself.  Who can she tell?  Who is she allowed to tell? This magnificent miracle had to be kept secret. But how do you keep secret a great joy that is budding within you? In the Annunciation, the angel Gabriel told Mary of her relative Elizabeth’s miraculous pregnancy. So there was someone in whom Mary could confide. Off to the home of Elizabeth Mary journeyed. Upon greeting each other, great joy was experienced as told by Luke in the passage above. It was a time of sweet rejoicing.

One night in 1328, Dominican monk, Heinrich Suso, had a mystical experience which was recorded in his biography: Now this same angel came up to the Servant[Suso]brightly, and said that God had sent him down to him, to bring him heavenly joys amid his sufferings; adding that he must cast off all his sorrows from his mind and bear them company, and that he must also dance with them in heavenly fashion. Then they drew the Servant by the hand into the dance, and the youth began a joyous song about the infant Jesus, which runs thus: 'In dulci jubilo',

At the completion of his mystical experience, Suso wrote the words he heard, In Dulci Jubilo (In Sweet Jubilation). Through the centuries, a number of changes to Suso’s original writing have occurred but the one that has gained greatest prominence and has become a staple in classical music of the season is In Dulci Jubilo by Robert Pearsall. (J.S. Bach’s chorale prelude based on the tune is a popular choice for organists as a prelude/postlude.) In Pearsall’s composition, he mixes the beauty of Latin with English lending to a most touching work primarily sung by choirs. Sweet jubilation was certainly something experienced by Elizabeth and Mary when they came together.  A more popular carol is Good Christian Men, Rejoice which is a loose translation of In Dulci Jubilo by J.M. Neale who also wrote for us O Come, O Come, Emmanuel.

    1. I wish you this Fourth Sunday in Advent, sweet rejoicing.  Like Elizabeth and Mary, may you share jubilant greetings and hugs with the people with whom you share a common bond of God’s work in your lives. Pay attention to the music in worship today, there is an outside chance the musicians might play a version of this classical work.

Before listening to the singing of In Dulci Jubilo, spend a few moments familiarizing yourself with the words and meaning.  Here is a link:

  27. "No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money. (Matthew 6:24). He must increase, but I must decrease." (John 3:30). If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. (Colossians 3:1-4). For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. (Romans 8:5). And he said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. (Matthew 22:37). And this, not as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then by the will of God to us. (2 Corinthians 8:5).

  28. "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world but in order that the world might be saved through Him. (John 3:16-17). And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." (Acts 4:12). We were buried therefore with Him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. (Romans 6:4). But Peter and the apostles answered, "We must obey God rather than men." (Acts 5:29).

  29. Prayer warriors, my son Rio is in need of prayer. He has been in the hospital 5 times since early november and has had three surgeries in 1 month! All because an infection that they thought was cellulitis. He had another surgery on Friday and they found the infection went to the bone...a bone that broke in May due to a tumor. They had to replace the hardware in his bone and start antibiotics that have been so hard on him. The side effects of the antibiotics have caused constant fevers and n/v despite medicines to counteract. His cornea tore in surgery because his eye came open and dried out. His iv infiltrated. So much. He is 11. He is so strong, so brave, so patient. It's heartbreaking to see him go through this. Thank you for your prayers and insights for us <3

  34. Wonderful devotion for this very moment when we have so much to do and we need our Way Maker to help us in every way. Putting it all in His Hands because He will help me accomplish it and help me keep my focus on Him. Continuing to stand on the Rock that never crumbles. He is the light in our day and the strength in our weakness.

Romans 8:28 - And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Psalm 50:15 - And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 - Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.

John 16:33 - These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

Deuteronomy 31:8 - And the LORD, he it is that does go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.

Psalm 138:8 - The LORD will perfect that which concerns me: thy mercy, O LORD, endures for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands.

James 1:2-3 - My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing [this], that the trying of your faith worketh patience.

Psalms 62:2 - He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defense; I shall not be greatly moved.

  35. For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost. (Luke 19:10). For thus says the LORD to the house of Israel: "Seek Me and live." (Amos 5:4). Ask, and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. (Matthew 7:7). Seek the LORD while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near. (Isaiah 55:6). I was sought by those who did not ask for Me; I was found by those who did not seek Me. I said, 'Here I am, here I am,' to a nation that was not called by My name. (Isaiah 65:1).

  36. But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must know that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. (Hebrews 11:6). Seek good and not evil, that you may live; so the LORD God of hosts will be with you, as you have spoken. (Amos 5:14).

Heavenly Father, thank You. I praise You Lord always. Thank You for all that You do. You are truly amazing! I will lift up my heart and worship You. Please sweep out all the "clutter" that is within me and my life. Search me and "tidy up" my heart. Let me be complete in You Lord. Reawaken my soul and let my flesh be quiet. Restore the joy of my salvation. Let praises of You continually be in my mouth. Hold my hand and let us walk together through the day, rejoicing and praising You. Open the eyes of my heart and let me see through it. Thank You Jesus. In Jesus name, I pray, Amen 🙏.

  42. As Maplewood STATED in an earlier crossover post...December is a great, SPECIAL and wonderful month. A month in remembrance of our SAVIOR’S ’s birth, a month when hope and Redemption came into the world, a month of jubilation, celebration, a month that will forever be cherished!
Today's devotion reminds us to let everything else SLIP into the background of our mind, so Jesus can be in the forefront of our awareness; and to SEEK His Face continually throughout this day letting His Presence bring order to our thoughts, infusing Peace into our entire being.
Matthew 6: 33 reminds us to SEEK first The Kingdom of God and His Righteousness, and all these things will be added to us!
To celebrate the 19th day of this celebratory month, I plan to give JESUS "S" gifts of SEEKING His Face and His Kingdom in every SITUATION and circumstance I encounter today. I will also give Him the gift of my SURRENDER to His SOVEREIGNTY.

The scripture says, "Who ever calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved." I like to review the SALVATION prayer from time to time. It brings souls to my Papa God, to my Jesus and to my Holy Spirit. Lord Jesus, I repent of my sins and surrender my life. Wash me clean. I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. That He died on the cross for my sins and rose again on the third day for my VICTORY. I believe that in my heart and make a confession with my mouth, that Jesus is my Savior and Lord. I receice eternal life in Jesus's name, AMEN and AMEN. Jesus, because of what You did for me, I know without a shadow of a doubt, I am a CHILD of the MOST HIGH GOD! Praise the Lord and HALLELUJAH!!!

  47. I was reminded twice today that at one of the busiest times of the year, to slow down and listen for God's voice and then plan my next step. I love the Christmas Season, the hustle and bustle, and the short lived satisfaction of crossing something of the never ending list. However, in that whirlwind, it is easy to miss so much beauty and richness of what the Holy Spirit has planned. Slowing down to sit on the porch and calling a longtime friend, letting someone know how much they have meant through the years, sharing a family tradition made with Love. May your Christmas Season be filled with Joy, Love, and the Peace that surpasses all understanding.
