Jesus Calling: December 21

My plan for your life is unfolding before you. Sometimes the road you are traveling seems blocked or it opens up so painfully slowly that you must hold yourself back. Then, when time is right, the way before you suddenly clears -- through no effort of your own. What you have longed for and worked for I present to you freely, as pure gift. You feel awed by the ease with which I operate in the world, and you glimpse My Power and My Glory.
Do not fear your weakness, for it is the stage on which My Power and Glory perform most brilliantly. As you persevere along the path I have prepared for you, depending on My strength to sustain you, expect to see miracles -- and you will. Miracles are not always visible to the naked eye, but those who live by faith can see them clearly. Living by faith, rather than sight, enables you to see My Glory.
Psalm 63:2
English Standard Version
So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary,
    beholding your power and glory.

2 Corinthians 5:7
English Standard Version
for we walk by faith, not by sight.

John 11:40
English Standard Version
Jesus said to her, “Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?

My Prayer
You are power Lord. You are Glory. Oh, I adore You. Your Glory is seen by all, each day whether recognized or not. The sky above keeps on going and never stops just like Your love for us keeps on going and never stops. The trees are rooted in the ground, branched out, like the way You have taken up residence in me with deep intertwined roots that will not be shaken. Throughout all time people have witnessed this- Your Power and Glory. This world is trying so hard to push you out and pretend You are not present, that humanity is the ultimate ruler. Forgive us Lord for wanting to be in charge. Forgive us for taking what you have created and calling it a mistake and thinking we know better. We think we are so powerful, that we can decide when life is lived. Forgive us Lord. Thank you that through all of this you still offer us a gift, a free gift, that we can't earn even as we try. We don't deserve the gift but that doesn't change you giving it to us. Yes Lord, Yes Lord, I have looked upon you. I believe and I see the Glory of God!!

  1. With what we see in this fallen world, it would seem easier to walk by faith than sight. It is selfish, unjust, and immoral. Yet, I still want to trust what I see vs. what I cannot. God strengthen us in our faith as you guide us to the unseen promises here and in heaven. And thank you for allowing us to be saved by Your Son's sacrifice at the cross. Amen.

    1. Amen! MadFox! God is asking us to look above all that we can see and trust in what is unseen and never fading. Faith is believing what we cannot see. His faithfulness is beyond measure and His light is full and complete. His words are perfect and true. His mercy is endless. Loved today’s devotion, thoughts and prayers: Especially these words: “The sky above keeps on going and never stops just like Your love for us keeps on going and never stops.”

    2. Chris, your prayer speaks to me of becoming the agent of change in this fallen world. I join you in seeking, asking and trusting it can be so, in Jesus's name!

  2. Today’s gospel lesson (Luke 1:39-45) tells the story of Mary’s visit with Elizabeth. As I contemplated the beauty and wonder of that visit and then read today’s thought above, I was touched by how the two readings complimented one another. Mary & Elizabeth were women who depicted the life of faith described in the reading for today. As a result when God led them to cross paths, Elizabeth started speaking of things far and beyond what she could know because she was filled with the Holy Spirit. This is the beauty of crossing paths with someone who seeks God as we are doing, extraordinary words will be spoken because of the Holy Spirit is at work in each of us. This phenomenon occurs even as you and I come to this blog (thank you, paytonfamily), we say things that touch each other’s soul. It is not that we try to say profound things, we simply speak words from the heart and they are words and thoughts the other is blessed by. Such is the work of the Holy Spirit when we trust beyond what we see and hear around us. Your path & my path have crossed in Christ led by the Holy Spirit and we are blessed. Thanks be to God!

    5. So true, through this blog and our other interactions, virtual and physical, as we connect in two's or three's or more as He said "there am I". It is our Lord Jesus connecting us together. Weaving the threads of our lives, interconnecting us to each other and Himself. As our paths cross the Holy Spirit brings out of us what is pleasing to Him. It is that which blesses us all. It has been said before in a poem I think, that God weaves our lives into a beautiful tapestry. So our prayers and support for each other, our lifting up of each other daily and throughout the day to the Throne of Grace is progressively weaving that wonderful tapestry. A tapestry is tightly woven, the threads are constantly in contact with the threads either side. God can see the whole beautiful design. Maybe one day we will be blessed to see it too, for now, we see only part. I'm keenly anticipating that day.

    6. Wow, wow, wow Bob, what beautiful words, that we are in the intersection of the Holy Spirit speaking words that are uplifting, hope, and faith giving to each other. And if we have eyes to see, it is plainly there. What a gift from God to each of us to see Him through each other in extraordinary words spoken here. I thank God for each one of you and ask Him to bless and heal your families deeply wherever you need it.

    7. I am seeing the weaving of a huge safety net. Daily now with my hubby, BIL and hospice peeps the Holy Spirit comes and the words from each of us are profound and from there heart. Thank you all for your prayers for Paul to ease his discomfort and infuse him with the peace that is his to receive, they are reaching far and wide. Thank you Jesus, all the power and glory is you, in your hands and love for us. I'm glad you were born!!! The solstice is upon us and your light grows brighter and longer each day 🎄✝️☀️

  3. I hope one day I can produce music for Jesus! I'm patiently waiting...10 years ago when I was single, before I was saved, I produced a lot of music I am proud of quality-wise but it's essentially meaningless/worth little lyrically. After being saved I have written (and can perform on piano with singing) about 5-6 songs which glorify Him, yet I have produced little since getting married. On top of this I lost my singing range about 6 months ago, which is somewhat discouraging but I count it a sign He wants me to remain patient and trust in His perfect will for this gift. In any case, woe to me if I bury the talent He gave me! As a pastor/minister feels a burden to preach/teach/pastor, I feel the same for music. I trust you, Jesus.

    1. Dear Randy, I hear the quandary in your heart. I, too, was silenced (as a preacher) for a length of time. I agonized over it which sent me into depression. A dear friend kept saying to me, enjoy this time, enjoy your wife, relax, enjoy the things you like to do in this time of silence (none of which I could do because I had sent myself into my depression). My time of silence passed and He called me back into His service. I look back at that time and realize my friend was acting as an angel with a message from God. If I had listened better, I would not have caused my misery as I had. Today (22nd), the gospel reading is Mary’s song (Luke 1:46-56) that exploded from her heart as she became more aware of the magnitude of God’s work going on within her. I pray you will have a similar experience. God be with you!

    2. Thank you so much for sharing this!! My boyfriend has been blessed with the gift of music. He calls it "being lightning struck by Jesus" he picked up the guitar in February of this year and has become quite advanced playing. He make sure at all times to give all glory to Christ. He plays everyday whether hes in the mood or not and Jesus gives him complete peace no matter what's going on in his daily life. He plays all original when he started out 10 months ago he didnt even know any chords but was making music. He was completely inspired only by Jesus to play guitar. He would have never picked one up if it wasnt for Him. I'm saying all this to give you a since of hope. Keep your head up and eyes on Christ and he will light up your path in His perfect unique plan for you.

  6. I am blessed to be in Your Presence this day and thank You for all the plans You have for me. Thank You for the many gifts I receive from You each day.
2 Corinthians 12: 9-11, tells me:"My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness. Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ's sake, for when I am weak, then I am strong". Thank You Lord!

Gradually the year is coming to an end. As I Look down the lane from January, I see the height of God's faithfulness and assured that He who began this good work in me will definitely accomplish it. I believe our testimonies have just begun.
May God waste our enemies' efforts and plans, disappoint their devices and scatter their agendas concerning our lives and endeavors, as we prepare to enter the new year, untouchable, unstoppable, blessed and highly favored, in Jesus name.

  7. Today we experience in God’s creation a profound truth of our Lord’s love for us; it is the darkest day of the year, the day of least sunlight. Tomorrow will have a minute more of sunlight than today, and on it will go day by day, a little more light and a little less darkness. And so it is with situations and circumstances that bring darkness to our lives. For a time being, they may cause increasing darkness to us. But there will come a moment when things will turn for the better and the Light will become more visible. Our loving Lord is entering our circumstances to bring light to our darkness. Scripture makes clear, God has always been there and always will be. His name is Emmanuel, God is with us. As Elizabeth said to Mary upon her visitation, “Blessed are you who took to heart what God said is happening within you (paraphrased).” Let us take to heart the Truth about our Lord, His Light is in process of shattering all darkness. God be with you!

  11. Thank you Lord for this day, for the gift of time that YOU allowed me to receive as I gave each situation to You! My crazy-busy plans for last night and today, gloriously disappeared, as I kept my eyes focused on God and trusted Jesus Christ to clear the 'blocked road,' (which I hadn't even read yet!). One by one, I gave events up, focusing on what I could do at that given moment. Then, through no suggestion of mine, my sister said, "Should we reschedule?" I immediately said, "Yes!" And that gave me the needed strength to call my boss and say, "I just can't complete everything needed in the office and be there tonight." Though I later worried that I'd come off uncaring, all of that was cleared up this morning.
I have spent the last hour catching up on your posts I missed yesterday (went back 3 days!). I'm so thankful that I pray even when I don't know specifics and Sassy Mom - your prayer requests for Debbi had me going back to find out what was going on. I don't HAVE to know, but I wanted to. Debbi will remain in my prayers and I am picturing her relieved of the pain and any worries...one by one, the needs will be met. I am thankful for your heated home and your warm faith in God to meet all needs.
CO, I am praying for you & your family and rejoicing in your sweet, humble heart. Your sharing reminded me of past JC devotions like, "Move slowly into this day," or "Do not be weighed down by the clutter..." Praying that your heart will be moved to do what blesses you and yours most. (loved Keith's 'less is more.').
MadFox, I laughed out loud at your wonderful Christmas surprise! AND YOU HAD THE LIGHTS UP!!!
Again, I can't list each of you individually, but please know I've read every word and continue to pray and thank God for each of you and your salted words. Words of encouragement, honest sharing of hearts (reminds me of the JC that said, "Once you become grateful for a problem, it loses its power to drag you down." How blessed are we??? (again, Keith's 'less is more' reminder! I just scratched a few more things off my To-Do list).
So, I give it all to you, Father, who blessed us beyond our greatest expectations by giving us Your only begotten Son. He, who CHOSE, to suffer for a time, so we may live eternally. I thank you for each and every person whose eyes hit this site: that they know they are not alone in their grief, or sickness or pain or struggle; who know there are brothers and sisters in Christ, praying, interceding, reveling in Your matchless Word. I thank You that on this shortest day of light, our hearts will be warmed and our homes filled with love and blessings and the knowledge that we are not alone in this wicked and perverse nation, but surrounded by Your love, mercy and grace. May each heart be filled with Your Love and Light. In the name above ALL names, Jesus Christ, I pray.

  19. I am awake far too early, but it is a peaceful wakening. I'm praying for you, Brie, to know how to 'play out' your Christmas plans. God will reveal it to you and your hubby, just at the right time. Our teaching today in fellowship was on Peace (the 3rd of the same theme). The book of Luke emphasizes the Peace that was brought at the birth of Christ. The minister said, "Peace in our lives is not a 'forced entry;' it has to be welcomed and then we take action with confidence in what God has led us to do, knowing He would never do anything to harm us.'
That is what I'm praying for you - you are so welcoming to the Lord and His teaching. You will know what to do and you will have great peace.
And the whole time I'm sharing this with you, I'm telling myself the same regarding things I'm pondering in my life. I think your prayer, Janet, went straight to my heart! Thank you all, JC Family for prayers of wisdom and grace for each other.

  20. "And Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior"-Luke 1:46-47.

Most Gracious Father, There are just too many blessings that cannot be counted, but I give thanks to You this morning especially for the gift of being in Your presence. I give thanks for my salvation in Christ, and that He rose from the dead three days later, and we know that this Christmas and every Christmas, we have been given the blessing to celebrate the gift of eternal life through Jesus our Savior. May the many material distractions from the original meaning and reason for this celebration, not crowd out the very peace and joy that is offered to us through Christ Jesus, but keep our mind, heart, and spirit filled with joy and gratitude to You always. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.

As Christ Jesus lived in thankfulness to God (John 11:41-42) and expressed His thanks to His Father publicly for the benefit of others that they too might learn to be grateful to God, I pray that we follow His example, remind ourselves and others how blessed we are and give thanks to Him always! Our Father knows the plans He has for us, and it is good! When we keep holding on in trusted faith and thanksgiving, those plans will unfold right before our eyes! God’s response may not be to provide an immediate escape from the difficult situation. Rather, He promised that He has a plan to prosper us in the midst of our current problems, situations and life’s uncertainties.

He proclaimed through Jeremiah that when you: “Call on me and come and pray to me. I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 19:12-13).

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11).

    Blessings and Peace.

    1. And when we do, the O prayers suggest Taking an outing tonight. Going around and looking at the Christmas lights that are on display in our town or neighborhood. And when we see the most dramatic displays—the ones that obviously took a lot of preparation—let them remind us of all the work that God put in preparing for the day when Jesus would bring His own light into the world.
When we take a look into the night sky and gaze at the stars and the phenomenal conjunction, look at the magnificence of these heavenly lights, and think about how the light of Jesus’ presence is far brighter and far more glorious. Amen!

  30. Fourth Tuesday in Advent

In October 1962, the world came its closest to total annihilation. The US supported effort, known as Bay of Pigs invasion, had failed in an attempt to overthrow Fidel Castro and the communist leadership in Cuba. In fear of future efforts by the US, Nikita Kruschev, the then-leader of the USSR, had brought to Cuba short and medium range ballistic missiles to deter any similar acts of aggression.  The then-president of the US, John F Kennedy, took a stand against the USSR by putting a naval blockade around Cuba to prevent any more missiles from being located on the island country sitting just 90 miles off the US coast. Further, Kennedy insisted on the dismantling and removal of all missiles that were in place.  For several days, people held their breath as the world stood on the brink of nuclear holocaust.  In the end, the USSR backed down and removed the missiles. The world exhaled and breathed a little easier again.

In NYC, the songwriting team/couple of Noel Regney and Gloria Shayne Baker had been asked to write a song for Christmas. How do you write of hope, peace, joy and love when all could be obliterated in the blink of an eye? Regney later revealed the source of his inspiration to write the carol that had been requested. “En route to my home, I saw two mothers with their babies in strollers. The little angels were looking at each other and smiling. All of a sudden, my mood was extraordinary.” Regney went on to explain how he saw in those babies, the faces of new born lambs and with that came the inspiration for the opening words, Said the night wind to the little lamb, of the popular Christmas carol, Do You Hear What I Hear?

John F Kennedy is best remembered for the leadership he provided in the Cuban missile crisis as well he should be.  My personal opinion is that behind all that took place is the LORD’s authority over His creation and He and He alone will determine the time when it will come to an end and it will be when He returns in love like a bridegroom, to receive it back to Himself. In that very dark time back in 1962, hope for the world was found in two little babies who inspired a popular Christmas carol which ends with the strong affirmation to pray for peace, people, everywhere; Listen to what I say! The Child, the Child sleeping in the night, He will bring us goodness and light.

Do You Hear What I Hear?
    https://youtu.be/3vVxXfA4BxE

The truth of those moments in October 1962 holds true of any and every dark moment we face in life. Today is the winter solstice, the shortest and darkest day of the year.  Tomorrow, the light begins to return minute by minute and each day gets a little brighter, a profound truth of life. Our hope is in the Child born and He will deliver us from any and all dark moments we experience. He always has, He always will, and even in this very moment, He is for He is the great “I AM”!

The Romanticism of the Song of Songs reveals the depths of God’s love for each of us:

8 The voice of my beloved! Look, he comes, leaping upon the mountains, bounding over the hills.
9 My beloved is like a gazelle or a young stag. Look, there he stands behind our wall, gazing in at the windows, looking through the lattice.
    10 My beloved speaks and says to me: “Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away;
11 for now the winter is past, the rain is over and gone.
12 The flowers appear on the earth; the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land.
13 The fig tree puts forth its figs, and the vines are in blossom; they give forth fragrance. Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away.
14 O my dove, in the clefts of the rock, in the covert of the cliff, let me see your face, let me hear your voice; for your voice is sweet, and your face is lovely. (Song of Songs 2:8-14 (NRSV))

    With love, Bob

  35. I've just started watching ( 20 minutes so far before duty called), a new movie out "I Believe" on Amazon. Maybe it can be seen on Amazon Prime? Or buy the video somewhere?
So far it's really good, what I've seen so far I can't get out of my head, it's really impacted me, reduces me to tears every time I think of it.
The movie is about a young school boy who starts asking questions mostly of detractors and an elderly helpful pastor.
He decides in spite of the detractors that he will believe in God, and believe in Jesus and take Jesus' words to heart: John 14 :12 " Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father." I won't spoil it any further for those who haven't seen it yet, but just one word to whet your appetite, 'Miracles'. I can throughly recommend what I've seen so far.
The Lord knows the longings of my heart, I pour it out to Him.
I too as Bob and Randy experienced, am in a season of being restrained, held back. The Lord keeps telling me "Not yet", so maybe I'm in preparation for the next phase? Or just need to wait for His timing?
Anyway, He said earlier today through this I read somewhere:
"For now, go out into the world as the miracle God wants you to be.
Give hope where there is none.
Make peace where there is none.
    Serve others not being served."

May the grace, love and peace of Jesus Christ be with all of us, now and forever.

Go in peace, knowing we live the new life in Christ to do His will on Earth at this Christmas time, and for as much time as He gives before we meet him in the air.

Our God is undefeated! He is your Father and He loves you!!!
Father God, I want to pray over any one that is discouraged, and has gone through dark times. Father God, for some, they don't know how they are going to hold on another day. Father, I ask right now, GIVE THEM THAT STRENGTH; GIVE THEM THAT PEACE; and GIVE THEM THAT JOY TO HOLD ONTO! Let them see through Your eyes of faith that You are in control. Be the anchor of their soul this very hour, this very day. For those being tormented by doubt, worry, fear, frustration, heaviness--- Father, You have promised Deliverance! Whom the Son sets free is free indeed!
This is you Declaring and Decreeing your freedom:

  42. "Expect to see miracles, and you will"....
The whole of God's plan for mankind's Redemption is a miracle ( in fact, countless miracles, including the Nativity)
There are situations that we or loved ones are in or that at least we know about, that require nothing short of a miracle - "an extra-ordinary and welcome event that is not explicable by natural or scientific laws and is therefore attributed to a divine agency" to resolve.
The 'divine agency' is our God, He alone provides miraculous answers to prayer. If you're holding on to Him for a miracle, tell Him so, He will never disappoint.

Today's devotion reminds us that His plan for our life is UNFOLDING before us.
Jeremiah 29 reminds us of God's Declaration in that He knows the plans He has UNFOLDING for us, and His Plans are to prosper us and give us a hope and a future.

The truth of God's WORD is setting you free, and the Holy Spirit is breaking the hidden cycles of failure. Because of the power of the cross, His deliverance, and the WORD, the enemy has NO CLAIM AGAINST YOU! YOU ARE UNDEFEATED! He has made you MORE THAN A CONQUEROR, and He ALWAYS CAUSES YOU TO TRIUMPH!
